Thanks so much!☕️🍩
Dude I literally made these a couple years ago!! So cool! Took me a bit to figure out how to get the lid size just right
We did this project at Wesleyan Potters about twelve years ago. It was a fun project. We fired it about six or seven times to cone 6. Our results were really good. Have fun with the project and the firings.
I'm going to make some of these! Thanks for sharing.
I designed and built a kiln from soft bricks, for soda firing. I used Gail Nichols' soda-resistant coating recipe, but the soda still damanged the bricks. Mostly they were fine, but they were not fine at the base of the kiln, by the gas burners, where I was tossing the chunks of solid soda mix. The soda corroded the kiln floor during the firing, to the extent that by the third firing the whole stack was tilting slightly. I patched all the problems with the floor using a home-made castable, but this corrosion also went up slightly up the walls. I think the corrosion was less serious when spraying in the soda.
All these problems can be worked around, but my conclusion to all this is that you can't build a soda kiln for the long term (as in 100+ firings, or a couple of decades) with soft bricks. But I learned a lot, had a lot of fun, have no regrets and most importantly I have some wonderful pieces that are full of dynamism and life.
Will you be recording a video of this kiln build and firing? I'd be very interestednin watching that.
What clay? And shrink rate 😮 So awesome
Happy new year 🎉! So excited about my ceramic projects this year! Love your chanel
Happy New Year!!🎉
Great video!
Nice! I was wondering how I could possibly do this! Thanks for the tips!
If you ever do a raku kiln build workshop I'd be interested in that :)
FYI: The Amazon link to the page for your new book is broken. Thought you'd want to know! So excited to try making travel mugs right about now 🙂 Thank you for all of your awesome videos!
Would love to know your shrink percentage!
Man I wish you would hold the lid next to the rim for longer. I keep rewinding trying yo see!
I'd love to be there BUT we're planning a wedding and that's taking up my funds. I may be interested in future projects like this
Thanks! Love the details about the sizing! I have an old Amaco wheel without bat pins and I see you using plasterboard for throwing bats. Are you attaching them to the wheel head without the use of pins also? How does this work?
Which glazes are on the black cup? Is that black glaze underneath cosmos on white clay? I thought it was black clay at first
Jon, what sponge are you using when you're pulling up your walls?
Jon- will you guys be filming this for offering later? Maybe a stand-alone program? Just a thought.
I would love to do the soda kiln, but the dates are right before the eclipse and we have a trip already planned. 😢
Are you using cone 5 B-Mix?
Where did you get your "extenda legs for your wheel?
What exactly does the hold at the end do? E.g if it is 5' or 10' minutes?
I just checked the shrinkage % of my clay (seaside) it’s 14%
is it just me or is my Bluetooth headset only having audio on one side
just this video alone
Mono sound?
Super interested! But I don’t have the time or money to attend the work shop. Any chance you will make a video on making a soda kiln?? 😊
Jonthepotter. Wow~ that is awesome ! later.
