I really like the theory of Gregory being the crying child because it means that he overcame his fear and he’s literally best friends with what used to make him so scared. It means that Afton didn’t win, and The brothers can finally get some peace

@@adamnielson42 True, but hating on Mat, and completely disregarding his points is also wrong. Regardless of wether you think he's right, the evidence is still there for something. Mat is just giving an explanation he thinks is best with what we know, even if it doesn't completely fit. I don't even think he fully believes everything about these theories, he's just waiting for evidence to come up, and possibly find a better explanation.
I've said it before in a previous theory vid, but I'll say it again. Robot children built by regretful fathers gives me incredibly strong Astro Boy vibes, and I'm so here for it.
I always saw theories as fun thought experiments based on the rules, evidence, and given lore of a media, whether loosely or to the letter. But I never saw it as something that had to absolutely had to be true. It was just something fun and goofy to argue about with friends. So I don't really understand why someone would get mad about it. It's just someone's preferred head cannon. Even if I don't agree with it, it's just fun to see something I like through someone else's eyes. Maybe that's just me.
to be fair, it’s a pretty divisive game too. i think, next to fnaf world ofc, it’s one of their lower points and it really shows in the fandom. plus it was a pretty funny graphic
As if the final 3 star ending illustration of a franschise that is heavily based on lore had the illustrators “accidentally” just put in some random ice creams with funny looking shapes lmao. It’s crazy to chalk it up to a mistake over a very intentional design decision
I’ve been rewatching all his theories from beginning till now, and I don’t understand why the community hates matpats theories for crying child, it literally makes perfect sense, the community is just mad that their favorite horror game story is going in a new direction for some reason
Whether you like the theories or not, just realize that he has put a lot of effort into this. And that he and his team are amazing and that he is still doing strong like 11 years later. Thanks MatPat for everything!

So they would shorten a name William->Will and then change the first letter Will->Bill. That version just remained popular since then. There are quite a few examples of this, such as Bob (Robert), D ick (Richard) and Peggy (Margaret).

You will find many things we believe are facts, such as gravity and plate technoics are in fact theories. Because scientists can be very confident in their answers with well documented and supporting evidence. But unless we get God or whatever created the universe to confirm our answers, like a teacher grading a quiz, we can't say for certain. After all, much of science evolved from incorrect assumptions or that things are much more complicated than we originally thought. Like quantum mechanics. So yeah, Matpat 100% is giving us a theory because the evidence is there, even if that theory isn't confirmed.

Having watched the next episode, I love how Fnaf has reached the point where ‘Hiding in an arcade cabinet that can only be reached by finding a hidden, disguised and completely optional door that will only open if you use the camera item to flash a bunch of scattered cardboard cutouts without the game giving you any reason to do so’ qualifies as ‘hiding in plain sight’

Regardless of whether these characters are *literally* the Afton kids, I think MatPat is 100% about it being a symbolic reunion. The crying child got bullied by animatronics, now his stand-in gets to conquer them mano-a-mano. Michael threw his life away getting justice for his siblings and other victims, and now Freddy gets to help them in michael’s death. Elizabeth never got the chance to live and become a person at all, so Vanny has to be saved from brainwashing to get a second shot at growing up. It doesn’t all have to make sense logically, only emotionally - which it does.
THIS right here backs matpats theory by a lot. plus, why would they put a random picture of a kid, a robot and a woman in the truest of the endings? it doesn't make sense. it's HAS to define something meaningful, maybe to wrap up the (final?) game of the franchise. It doesnt make the most sense for them to casually highlight the three main characters sitting on a hill towards the sunset, in a game where the afton kids (including MIchael) speculated to suddenly and literally go missing and unmentioned at ALL
I hate it. We need new characters like glamrock Freddy and Gregory. Steel Wool should not be going back to old, completed characters anymore. Michael, crying child and Elizabeth should not be brought back. They had their stories. This new era of fnaf should be treated as such.

Honesty, I'd forgotten about the glitchiness in Gregoy's eyes being so similar to the ones of the security camera. But, that would explain why there's also an effect on the screen when our old pal MoonDrop's out and about, when you get the (in my opinion very pretty) overlay of the stars and sparkles. Not sure that'd make much sense to happen to a normal child, unless he ate some of those sleepytime candies that messed him up.
Not to start a fight or anything but I feel like it’s just a game mechanic, dawko said that and I believe that was it is. Lots of games can do that and they have no meaning other than letting you know that there danger, when the animatronics spot you it gives you a chase sound so you know that you were spotted and have to get away. It is possible that if he is a robot and Vanessa uses and sort of cloaking device so she can’t be seen then I would consider it, but I think sense she reacts differently than the others it is just there to let you know who specifically is chasing you
I feel like the perfect ending to this franchise would be a movie or animated series that shows the entire timeline. And it’s in chronological order, a straightforward answer would be nice.
Hey, I was listening to the voices of Baby and Vanessa and realised they sounded VERY similar, looked it up and yep! They're the same voice actor. Adds even more to the evidence of them being the same character.

@@silentoccasion4359 The books and the games are both canon to the franchise, but exist on different continuities. Think of it more like parallel dimensions so to speak. Drawing connections from one to answer a question from another; that's how lore like this works. FNAF by far isn't the first to do this, but it's the only one I've seen where the fandom is so against doing so despite it being the creator's original intention.

@@hunterblackwolf8062 there's a lot of variables we have to consider, like greg not being in the system or old willy poo not being able to recognize him as someone already said, OR he cant for some reason we've yet to find out, or he has some ulterior motives (after all, he COULD have gone and k*lled greg even without hacking him, so the point still stands).
The fact that Matt saw the "ooo gator golf" vid and ALSO the Freddy memes really makes me happy. It just shows how active Mat is in the fandom and it warms my heart by the amount of effort put into these videos
No, but the family theory make sense. IN the FNaF Character encyclopedia, it's mentioned at the end of SB, Gregory, Freddy's head and Vanessa are seen sitting together eating ice-cream, "forming an odd little family unit", and that it's "a happy ending at last". Coincidence?
It's nice to see Matt taking the backlash so well now compared to in the past. He's definitely come a long way since the "Sans is Ness" thing. I personally don't really care whether or not the theories are "correct" or anything, I just like watching the videos.

i got into the games and the theories when i was like 9, i’m turning 18 this year. i have literally grown up with this series and matpats theories. thanks matpat for being a huge part of my life growing up
Same, but now I actually acknowledge and understand the theories better than when I was a kid. I have to admit that I just thought Mat was really just a smart person even though I only understand half of what he says. Now that I actually can understand things better. Looking back at his theories makes me appreciate them more.

There's is one point in the series that could clean up the lore a tiny bit. The stichwrath storyline in the Fazbear Fright books says that inanimate objects can be infused with human emotions. What if that is what Springtrap is now? William Afton himself is dead, burning in hell, thanks to Cassidy, but his rage and fear of death are still infecting the suit, but without Afton actually there, the rage would no longer have a source and it would just be a matter of burning out what's left, which is why Springtrap is in that charging chamber, trying to preserve what little power they have and is using Vanny to do most of the dirty work of killing kids. It could also explain the Blob. The souls have in fact moved on, but the embers of their suffering are tied to William's rage and insane ploys of escaping death, so they linger for as long as that does.

More than anything, they're just for fun. Even if a theory is totally wrong, it's an interesting case of collecting scattered lore bits and going, "what if?" I enjoy that.
Another thing of importance to note I think is how glamrock freddy says "I am not me". It is such a weird phrasing that for me it felt like a parallel to golden freddy's "it's me".

I feel bad for MatPat literally getting hate and slandered when he had pretty solid theory- and if you've been following along with all his fnaf theories, everything really does connects together along with evidences in the game itself-

I have had a few games on mobile. I have OG FNAF, sister location, and pizza simulator (on PC). I've played simulator the most, but I can't do the next one after trash baby, even she freaks me out. I love the games through watching Markaplier, and some other youtubers. The only game I've been able to play is Security breach. I know when I'm going to get jump scared, so it helps me. I panic too quick with the sound queues in the other games xD.
There's a reason why we have Funtime Freddy and Circus baby, but not Molten freddy and Scrap baby. In Fnaf SL, all the funtimes get scooped, and we see their shells still intact in the scooping room. It wouldn't be hard to imagine that Fazbear Entertainment kept a few of the original shells, and have them for display in the display cases in rockstar row.
I’d also like to point out that Heather Masters, the VA for Baby, is also the VA for Vanessa. Some might say they are just reusing actors, but clearly the series has the budget now to get different actors if they wants to, so just another piece of evidence to support Vanessa being Elizabeth.

also adding to the fact that gregory can enter freddy, he can even control him. If the hatch was only made for gifts and oversized birthday cakes then thered be no control panel a human could use since there'd be no use for it. So since we control what freddy does when were inside him, Gregory would be getting into his system controlling his motor functions of walking. And since its been proved that freddy had 2 souls in him before one got freed, its most likely possible that two animatronics could function in one body

It feels like this specific game finally fits the "this is purgatory" theory. The 3 kids all died and had unresolved isses that are solved in the Savior ending.
I like the purgatory theory but it honestly may be because I want Micheal to finally be a rest after all the stuff he went through and go through more stuff caused by his father

I love how absurd the franchise lore has gotten. I thought it started with a really cool concept of haunted robots in a chuck e cheese and killers on the loose, but it feels like its completely descended into madness and it's downright hilarious how absurd it is now. This game would've been better as a reboot and not a direct continuation, with small ties to the past, but not too much. It's gotten out of hand and not even steel wool knows what they're supposed to do
The fact that both Gregory and crying child had a “Golden Freddy” that was with them all throughout the game is enough to convince me that they represent each other.
YES. The issues and general weirdness with this game really muddy the waters for me. Take for example, when Vanessa tells you to come to the main stage at 6 am, only for there to be nothing there. Who knows what other pieces of dialogue are meaningless or should have been cut out
I really like it when you pull information you found from the books. I think it helps come to a more complete conclusion / hypothesis after all you’re supposed to compile all the evidence related to what your researching when coming up with a theory so I think you’re doing the right thing. Also your videos specifically on the books encouraged me to get the audiobooks of them.
The thing I love about fnaf, is that Scott leaves so much stuff empty for us to make our own theories. It’s like making it our own, while it’s still his story.

Okay, I have to say the part about Michael talking through the Fredbear plushie's radio, is actually great. And connecting it with Glamrock Freddy as possessed by Michael, is even better. I dunno, it just works for me.
I'm usually quite open to these theories but if Roxy's eyes do show Gregory's endoskeleton wouldn't she have seen him through walls, making hiding pointless.
I really love the theorie and hard work going in there and I don't want to say anything against it... But as an artist I cant ignore the fact that Gregory's blue shirt is floated by the light of a sunset, which would automatically make it appear more purple (the rest of the image is also floated by orange/yellow/reddish light because of the sunset). But that could also be done intentionally to resemble the purple color from his father.

At around 17:00, MatPat mentions the spirit of Elizbeth Afton and the eyes not being lit up in the animatronic. Whenever we see Vanny, her eyes are glowing red, like the animatronics in the blob. This could potentially be connected together.
Maybe the reason why vanessa is so mad at gregory and freddy is because due to his death their father went insane which kinda led to her and her family demise. That’s why maybe mangle is her childhood room because it resembles the family dynamic which led to their death?

I'd like to point out three things I haven't noticed anyone else mention that really help your Gregbot case. 1) If you note the positioning of Fredbear's jaws in the FNaF4 ending sequence during the Big Bite, the band-aid that Gregory is ALWAYS depicted with lines up directly with where Crying Child's cheek is resting. In fact, an argument could be made that the angle of the bandage itself perfectly covers the "bite mark" line. Note where CC's cheek rests on Fredbear's lower jaw. 2) Building on your color-changing shirt bit, I'd like to add that thematically this also acts as an inversion from CC's color scheme. CC has a dark shirt and blue/purple pants. Gregory has a blue/purple shirt and dark pants. Not a big thing, but, given how you touched on design philosophies affecting lore in this series I thought it worth mentioning. 3) In the Savior Ending screenshot, it appears that not only are they on that same hill, they're likely under that very tree. Judging by the angle of the shot they're either on the middle-distance hill in the front, just behind the row of headstones, OR, they're behind the distant headstone, facing away, which would make all of the headstones *actually* just out of frame to the bottom right. Hope this was new info! Thanks for all the hard work you do!

I always saw theories as fun thought experiments based on the rules, evidence, and given lore of a media, whether loosely or to the letter. But I never saw it as something that had to absolutely had to be true. It was just something fun and goofy to argue about with friends. So I don't really understand why someone would get mad about it. It's just someone's preferred head cannon. Even if I don't agree with it, it's just fun to see something I like through someone else's eyes. Maybe that's just me.

I always thought Theories were hypothosis's that have undergone such rigorous test that they are nearly, if not completely, disprovable.
You will find many things we believe are facts, such as gravity and plate technoics are in fact theories. Because scientists can be very confident in their answers with well documented and supporting evidence. But unless we get God or whatever created the universe to confirm our answers, like a teacher grading a quiz, we can't say for certain. After all, much of science evolved from incorrect assumptions or that things are much more complicated than we originally thought. Like quantum mechanics.
So yeah, Matpat 100% is giving us a theory because the evidence is there, even if that theory isn't confirmed.

Regardless of whether these characters are *literally* the Afton kids, I think MatPat is 100% about it being a symbolic reunion. The crying child got bullied by animatronics, now his stand-in gets to conquer them mano-a-mano. Michael threw his life away getting justice for his siblings and other victims, and now Freddy gets to help them in michael’s death. Elizabeth never got the chance to live and become a person at all, so Vanny has to be saved from brainwashing to get a second shot at growing up.
It doesn’t all have to make sense logically, only emotionally - which it does.
Maybe that is why there is three stars only when Vanessa, Glamrock Freddy, and Gregory escape the Pizza Plex

Honesty, I'd forgotten about the glitchiness in Gregoy's eyes being so similar to the ones of the security camera. But, that would explain why there's also an effect on the screen when our old pal MoonDrop's out and about, when you get the (in my opinion very pretty) overlay of the stars and sparkles. Not sure that'd make much sense to happen to a normal child, unless he ate some of those sleepytime candies that messed him up.
Not to start a fight or anything but I feel like it’s just a game mechanic, dawko said that and I believe that was it is. Lots of games can do that and they have no meaning other than letting you know that there danger, when the animatronics spot you it gives you a chase sound so you know that you were spotted and have to get away. It is possible that if he is a robot and Vanessa uses and sort of cloaking device so she can’t be seen then I would consider it, but I think sense she reacts differently than the others it is just there to let you know who specifically is chasing you

Drawing connections from one to answer a question from another; that's how lore like this works. FNAF by far isn't the first to do this, but it's the only one I've seen where the fandom is so against doing so despite it being the creator's original intention.

There's is one point in the series that could clean up the lore a tiny bit. The stichwrath storyline in the Fazbear Fright books says that inanimate objects can be infused with human emotions. What if that is what Springtrap is now? William Afton himself is dead, burning in hell, thanks to Cassidy, but his rage and fear of death are still infecting the suit, but without Afton actually there, the rage would no longer have a source and it would just be a matter of burning out what's left, which is why Springtrap is in that charging chamber, trying to preserve what little power they have and is using Vanny to do most of the dirty work of killing kids.
It could also explain the Blob. The souls have in fact moved on, but the embers of their suffering are tied to William's rage and insane ploys of escaping death, so they linger for as long as that does.

I have had a few games on mobile. I have OG FNAF, sister location, and pizza simulator (on PC). I've played simulator the most, but I can't do the next one after trash baby, even she freaks me out. I love the games through watching Markaplier, and some other youtubers. The only game I've been able to play is Security breach. I know when I'm going to get jump scared, so it helps me. I panic too quick with the sound queues in the other games xD.
There's a reason why we have Funtime Freddy and Circus baby, but not Molten freddy and Scrap baby.
In Fnaf SL, all the funtimes get scooped, and we see their shells still intact in the scooping room. It wouldn't be hard to imagine that Fazbear Entertainment kept a few of the original shells, and have them for display in the display cases in rockstar row.
I’d also like to point out that Heather Masters, the VA for Baby, is also the VA for Vanessa. Some might say they are just reusing actors, but clearly the series has the budget now to get different actors if they wants to, so just another piece of evidence to support Vanessa being Elizabeth.

If the hatch was only made for gifts and oversized birthday cakes then thered be no control panel a human could use since there'd be no use for it. So since we control what freddy does when were inside him, Gregory would be getting into his system controlling his motor functions of walking. And since its been proved that freddy had 2 souls in him before one got freed, its most likely possible that two animatronics could function in one body

I think it helps come to a more complete conclusion / hypothesis after all you’re supposed to compile all the evidence related to what your researching when coming up with a theory so I think you’re doing the right thing. I really love the theorie and hard work going in there and I don't want to say anything against it... But as an artist I cant ignore the fact that Gregory's blue shirt is floated by the light of a sunset, which would automatically make it appear more purple (the rest of the image is also floated by orange/yellow/reddish light because of the sunset). But that could also be done intentionally to resemble the purple color from his father.

The whole reason the franchise is still alive and has over 9 games, and more to come, and yet still gets searched by an active audience is because of the unending mysteries and overcomplicated lore. It's quite successful, there's no denying that.
At around 17:00, MatPat mentions the spirit of Elizbeth Afton and the eyes not being lit up in the animatronic. Whenever we see Vanny, her eyes are glowing red, like the animatronics in the blob. This could potentially be connected together.

Hi Matt! I'd like to point out three things I haven't noticed anyone else mention that really help your Gregbot case.
1) If you note the positioning of Fredbear's jaws in the FNaF4 ending sequence during the Big Bite, the band-aid that Gregory is ALWAYS depicted with lines up directly with where Crying Child's cheek is resting. In fact, an argument could be made that the angle of the bandage itself perfectly covers the "bite mark" line. Note where CC's cheek rests on Fredbear's lower jaw.
2) Building on your color-changing shirt bit, I'd like to add that thematically this also acts as an inversion from CC's color scheme. CC has a dark shirt and blue/purple pants. Gregory has a blue/purple shirt and dark pants. Not a big thing, but, given how you touched on design philosophies affecting lore in this series I thought it worth mentioning.
3) In the Savior Ending screenshot, it appears that not only are they on that same hill, they're likely under that very tree. Judging by the angle of the shot they're either on the middle-distance hill in the front, just behind the row of headstones, OR, they're behind the distant headstone, facing away, which would make all of the headstones *actually* just out of frame to the bottom right.
