Margaret's Life Story - Answering Your Questions - Part Three

  • I first want to start by sharing my gratitude. My sincere thanks to every woman who has left a comment or message in response to my 2 previous videos telling my life story and sharing the experiences that shaped me. You have all been so incredibly loving and kind to me. Your comments, love and compassion have been quite honestly overwhelming.
In this third and final video I speak about my life since Sixty and Me was born and developed over 10 years and answer many of the very specific questions you asked me to answer.
I hope you find that my experiences in some way reflect the roadmap of your own life. I hope that my story has inspired you to tell yours! There is nothing terribly spectacular in my life.
I am just a 73 year old woman who has loved, lost, worked, moved, dreamed, travelled and survived. I have had sad and challenging moments and joyful experiences that language cannot describe! I also have thrived and grown as a woman because of you. My precious family and community!
    Thank you,
    Much love,
    Margaret

Thank you for making it OK to be on our own over 60! Divorced, and not looking for a partner. The majority of people I know are long married, and society pushes the idea we're incomplete without a significant other. One winds up feeling less-than and unwanted, but we can't singly control 'happily ever after,' no matter how much we tried. I really appreciate you as a positive role model who is happy, content, and making it on your own over 60.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I am divorced and happier than I ever remember being and have no interest in looking for a partner. It is tricky when traveling that people feel they must be paired up. My kids and grandchildren and few close friends are my people, not to mention Margaret and the Sixty and me group. Just love it. Thank you!

I have felt lost and alone for some time. My husband died after being together for 13 years, married 10 years. Found out he day traded all the money away and I only had $2000. He had dementia, so no reason to get mad. Moved back to where my mother lived six weeks after his death. Had to sell everything and had made a promise I wouldn't put my mom in a nursing home, so moved to the one place I never wanted to go back to. She passed after three years and now stuck here since her death in 2008. I have no special skills, live in a small town, no money other than SSI and am 73. Also, have had several serious health challenges since this all started in 2005. Now my brain has turned back on and trying to figure how to move. Your story has given me the push I've needed to stop sitting in this mess. So glad I found your channel. Thank you.

Rare are the people in my life about whom I can truly say that after every single encounter I am better for having spent time with them. You are one of those! Whether you are sharing glimpses into your life, things you have learned and other ideas that you are pondering, travels, jewelry, makeup, or whatever--my life is better for having spent time with you. So, thank you for your courage, insights, mission, curiosity, and your heart. You are truly a delight and blessing!

Thank you Margaret for being so sweet and honest.I really appreciate your videos. It is so nice to make a connection with someone who has many things in common. I recently moved to British Columbia Canada from New Brunswick. Making friends isn't easy here .My husband and me lost our home in New Brunswick due to financial and health issues. We are staying with our youngest son until we can afford a place of our own.Its been a very trying time but coming here has allowed us to heal and start over. Starting all over in your sixties isn't easy but we are doing it with divine help I know.Bless you and thanks again.

I discovered Sixty and Me shortly after my husband walked out (after 35 years of marriage) and it made me feel like I had a whole network of women my own age who we’re going through similar things to me. Just wanted to say how I admire Margaret and thank her for reaching out to us all. I have just reached retirement age in my country Zimbabwe where there's been 90% unemployment for many years. We have lost all our savings and retirement packages, due to bad governance. I'm so desperate to find a way to support myself and wonder if there may be any opportunity that I could explore. I am able to work in South Africa. Please if anyone has any ideas, contact me

I want to pray for you, ( that I will do anyway) I just know that God can make a way when it seems there is no way possible. And that applies to every area of our lives. God bless you and may this find you blessed and happy❣️🙏🙏🙏

Thank you for doing this series. At first I wondered why I would want to watch someone I don’t ‘really’ know talk about their life. In fact, there is something wonderful about sharing our stories. I got divorced after 32 years and, now, after 13 years and with a wonderful partner in my life, I still struggle with that decision. It is good to know others go through similar experiences and to understand how others process these things. Thank you!!!!

Dear Margaret- I love these stories of your life. You know it does help to know we are not alone. What you have shared here is relevant because it does illuminate that we all have our trials and struggles. Even the people we admire that seem to have it all
together . Like you. And you have made it , and live to help others, and practice to art of connecting us all . Inspiring us and sometimes just saying "Yes, I feel that". Or "I have felt that". It has power. It has power.
I loved the quotes ! and I will share one - the fashion photographer for the New York Times Bill Cunningham when awarded by the French -their Legion of Honor Medal in Arts and Culture said -
" It's as true today as it ever was. He who seeks beauty, will find It. " I think you have. Thank you for passing it around.

I started watching you in my 50s.....I had no idea that you would actually impress your own mark within my web of life. But, after I am gone, I would love you to know that somewhere, woven deep within the loom of life, you would find you....smiling....and serenely adding to the color and magic that is what I am made of.....you are there.....I just realized it today....and I thank you for being there to fulfill your part! It is good that you had good marriage / relationships and children.
I has 2 short abusive marriage, one arranged and one i choose but my intention was not in the right place, no children .
Mum's death was a great loss , we were very close specifically as i gave up work to look after her the second time she had cancer and was terminal.
People/ friends i know are all busy with their children and grand children.
But i am content and have great deal of gratitude for all i have

It's very satisfying knowing we're not alone! The strong positivity you exude is a great shot in the arm for me. I'm still taken for far younger, but as I slide closer to 80, I feel we need to get away from negativity & old age medicine cabinet mentality. You're a bright ray. It's the breaking away from gloom, learning to live alone happily, valuing our children's strong connections, learning to show them how very much we love them. These things are tough hurdles for a cool, not-overly-demonstrative mom at my stage. ( I have seven)... And so I appreciate your dynamic positive thinking and presence. Thank you🌺

Dear Margaret, thank you so much for this series of videos, I enjoyed each one. You're an inspiration. I understand why the word regret isn't part of how you view your life; all the downturns in life are also part of what shape us, and what we share to help and inspire others through their difficulties. I know each video could have been 2 hours long, I wish they were, I love your energy, and look forward to more....💞💞

Thank you for your videos, margaret. I have been divorced since i was 68. I am now 75. These last seven yrs, i have joined various groups, and have taken a few classes, which i thoroughly enjoyed. I have really tried, to make some new friends. I know what you are talking about, when you say that you moved a lot of times, when you were growing up. I went to five different grammer schls, and three different high schls. I became very adept at making friends. Why is it so difficult to make friends, as we get older. I have spoken to women, who are also by themselves, and they say the same thing. But, it appears, that if you are a couple, you seem to get invited to more things. How many other women feel that way?. Thx Margaret.💞🍞💞

Thank you Margaret.. I wish I had your strength and courage… one of my dreams is to visit India, it fascinates me, ever since I was little, don’t think I’ll ever get there as I’m not good at travelling alone, anxiety issues. I was married for 35 years, together for 37… always travelled with him, holidays etc. I think I have a long way to go before I’ll feel 100% about being on my own, as you said, I felt woven into my other half and at the moment I feel like half of me is missing. I do hope that as time progresses I’ll get stronger and find myself again… I’m 63 and sometimes I feel as if my life is over but, I have two beautiful daughters and I love them so much and I’m so grateful I have them, they’re both married and have wonderful husbands which I am so thankful for. As the saying goes”Time is a great healer” guess I’ll have to be patient… thank you again Margaret, love listening to your stories 😊

As I prepare to head into the next new adventure of life- retirement this has been a great place to be with you Margaret and many of the lovely women who share their lives and thoughts. Life has many twists and turns, problems , surprises and treats. I just feel the things I have been through have made me the person I am. That is how we gain a depth of soul. Thank you for sharing Margaret and giving us a place to connect. Much Love and Happiness to you.

Thank you, Margaret! We are interwoven because we all belong to one race, the human race. While our lives have differences, we all have the same similarities as well, just because we are human and made to have the same basic needs and wants. Part of that is being needed, wanted and loved. Until next time.

Margaret, how interesting! I also was married for over 20 years, and, I knew that feeling of being truly loved until he passed. I was engaged some years after, but, things didn't work out. Now, I'm no longer looking for the "unicorn". You are our best friend and family..such a lifesaver. Thank you for all you do, and, many blessings. Rosemarie 💖
