Thank you for the kind words Luke! You were an absolutely fantastic opponent and I can say hand on heart it was one of the best Warhammer games I've ever played. Loved hearing about your previous games too, I look forward to seeing your beautiful army again sometime! - Tim
Really enjoying the videos you have made so far. You have a talent for storytelling / speaking. I hope you will find time and inspiration to continue making them in the coming weeks and months. Wishing you well!
The last time I played warhammer must have been around 2005 or so. I was absolutely out of it but I think you and your videos did your part of bringing me back. Greetings from Germany! Ps. I teach history :)
Really enjoyed going through your back catalogue of battle reports - I never really got into Fantasy as a youngster as nobody else played, so my tomb kings remained in their...er...tomb, and when I finally got back into it at a much older age, they'd been squashed. I can't really justify some of GW's prices these days, so I'm limited to enjoying other people's games. Looking forward to your next one!
What a lovely tournament report. While I enjoy my 9th Age tournaments over here, your reports give me fine memories of the WHFB era(which is far from over as your video shows) with traditional names like "Gromhil", "Skarsnik" or "Balthasar" which 9th Age doesn´t use. Besides that, your reports were very entertaining and thrilling and I noticed how similiar the games are still: Move, zone, chaff, charge...hard counters, juicy targets, rock-paper-scissors- it all works in WHFB(expecially with comp) as in the 9th Age. Looking forward to your next bretonnian crusade 😻
Great video, stayed up late just to listen to it through to the end. I haven't had the pleasure of using my bretonnian army in fantasy battles yet, but it was very interesting for me to hear your experiences. I mostly own peasant units (two trebuchets, 48 bowmen and 100 men at arms) with a spattering of knights (16 KotR and 10 Grail knights) so I know I wouldn't really be bringing something that is going to win many games but I very much look forward to it all the same! The greatest joy is how proud I am of the paint jobs I've done, so I can totally understand what you mean about caring (which was obvious to me from the start by the fact you named your characters, as I have!) Such a shame you got matched up against so many stubborn infantry armies, two of which were lizardmen one after the other, but it sounds like you still had a great time which makes me really pleased to hear.
Yes, I have often found Bretonnian players are into the artistic side side of the hobby (the knights especially with numerous heraldry customisation options). Then here is the Arthurian lore, and of course the fact that it's the closest army to something historical (which is also the legacy of the Perry twins who sculpted the 90s era models, which are arguably the best ones). Both of those connections also seem to attract a fluff/historical interest player. Personally I'm primarily a chaos player, with Bretonnia as his mistress (unknightly as such a term might be). On the competitive side, it depends entirely what edition you play. In 5h, 6th, 7th ed Bretonnians are strong- it's only in 8th ed where having a 20 year old army book makes the army hard going, Another player in the tournement I went to fielded an almost all-peasant list and did surprisingly well, but you are correct that 100 men at arms and 50 bowman would be an army for the artiste!
Hi Luke, Kroak player here! Though my name is Chris but I'll forgive you that as there are a lot of new names and faces at a tournament that big! Thanks for the game, as you said it was very hard fought with plenty of moments where it could have swung one way or the other. Really enjoyed it and you were a fantastic opponent. Hope to see you at some more tournaments soon.
This is awesome! I bet watching one of these tournaments would be very interesting indeed!! Very interesting presentation!!!! Now go beat some foes and armies!!!
I will certainly watch this live stream, so thanks for the link. From teh stills, I am not sure he made the right decision on where he sent the fanatics...he should have sent them through the squig units to maintain the fanatic screen. Perhaps had two small NG units with a wide frontage in front of the squigs to have the fanatics bounce through and closer to those knights.
I know what you mean...and some do simply ban them. The argument for keeping them is I think because they have faith in their comp score to even it out (I think Gelt is about -5 on his own) and want to allow the widest range of warhammer onto the table. In effect a lot of End Times is banned even at those which allow it because because of 25% lords which- makes many of the more ridiculous characters impossible to select.
Nice vid, I have been looking for content like this (actually about the games). I wish you had taken a photo at the start of every turn so I could have better understood the charge arcs and options. Where do you look for info about 8th edition tournaments in the UK? I'm coming back for a visit next year and would love to bring an army with me.. I hope it's not Facebook! (even playing warhammer isn't worth using FB for). PS I would definetly have charged all 3 knight units in the Saurus unit :)
Yes, I agree that would be ideal- it's hard to remember to take turn by turn photos in tournament setting though. But with friendly games I can take lots of photos! Alas it's mostly on facebook (champions of destiny, triple crown wargaming etc). There are some whatsapp groups however (I'm in one for the London scene) . Yes, the other benefit of a triple charge would have been 5 grail knights going into Gorok- better than 1 palladin and 4 kotr.
When I first tried the Brets it was under the old 5th edition lists where you at least had some competent infantry, when they reduced the ws to 2, they really reduced the options to a puzzle on who to charge first, but anyone holding off those charges meant you would likely lose. Of course playing 8th with a 6th edition list didn't help!
Well indeed. But in 5th ed there was neither stubborn nor steadfast. In 6th ed and 7th a few stubborn. In 8th ed lots of stubborn and universal steadfast!
@@DrBlaxill Should have said 5th edition list with 6th edition, until that 6th edition book came out. I used to like the old lance and arrowhead formations. The old style lance was easier to move around the table and liked more but smaller knight formations. The 6th edition column version just seemed clunky
@@johnp4000 The 5th ed lance formation is also beautiful to look at. The Lance and the arrowhead also had a nice balance between the effect of more models fighting/shooting but a much narrower forward arc giving the enemy interesting tactical decisions.
Surely the Good Doctor couldn't have been that surprised to run into massive stubborn blocks of infantry at an 8th Edition tournament? Was there maybe a more limited comp at the previous event you went to? Also loving the vids. Would really like to see you run the Trolls of Chaos some day. Someone built the army and there are some batreps using it on Miscast Table. Still waiting for your hot take army book reviews. Cheers!
Well on the second point, you may see some action. I've run the trolls a lot in the past and they beat more or less everything that didn't have purple sun ;-)
I'm really keen to try your cannon ball screen with Greenskins. I figure it could work just as well for hiding Azhag or Gorbad. And trolls definitely synergize well with an inspiring presence bubble

What an astoundingly gorgeous army, wow.

Excellent Report!
Just discovered your channel while eating lunch at work, and it is awesome! I absolutely love Warhammer and this tournament sounded amazing!
Great as always!
What a goblinish day! Don't worry, be happy!

You had me at the Dark Omen background music, very well painted and cool looking army!!
Great video. Bad luck
Was fiending for a Blaxill video today and lo and behold!

Is the Orc fight Somewhere on youtube too, the fb link seems broken?
Cool, the Bretonnians are nice.

love this shit!

wait, aren't knights errant immune to psychology when they charge (so unable to be panicked from a stand and shoot)?
Dead right. It was the last time I made that oversight.
