Whether they are new cars going to be sold or old cars going to auction, cars stacked precariously on semi-trailers is a common sight on the nation's roads. Car companies load the maximum amount of cars possible onto the trailers, lending a jigsaw-puzzle look to the entire contraption. With this trailer kit you can load as many as six 1/25 scale kits and haul them with a 1/25 scale tractor (all sold separately). Kit features metal chain and vinyl tubing details, separate extendable rear ramps, and more.
    Highly detailed plastic pieces
Trailer holds up to 6 cars, 1/25 or 1/24 scale
Detailed with metal chains and vinyl tubing
    Separate and extendable rear ramps
Can be used with 1/25 or 1/24 scale tractors (not included)
    Waterslide decals
    Illustrated instructions
A car carrier trailer, also known as a car-carrying trailer, car hauler, or auto transport trailer, is a type of trailer or semi-trailer designed to efficiently transport passenger vehicles via truck.
Modern car carrier trailers can be open or enclosed. Most commercial trailers have built-in ramps for loading and off-loading cars, as well as power hydraulics to raise and lower ramps for stand-alone accessibility.
Commercial-size car carrying trailers are commonly used to ship new cars from the manufacturer to auto dealerships. In the United States, shipping of used vehicles is also a big industry, employed by car owners who are relocating and choose to ship their cars instead of driving, as well as consumers who have just purchased a vehicle on the second-hand market (particularly online) and need it delivered to their location.
Like other semi-trailers, most commercial car carrier trailers attach to the tractor using a fifth wheel coupling. Trailers can either be enclosed, possessing walls like a conventional box trailer, which affords the shipped vehicles more protection at the cost of lower capacity; or open, as in the commonly seen skeletal tube steel design, which exposes the vehicles to the elements but allows for greater carrying capacity. An American commercial car carrier typically fits between 5 and 9 cars, depending on the car size and trailer model (capacity is limited by an 80,000 lb weight cap that a road vehicle is subject to under U.S. law.[1]). Significantly higher-capacity vehicles have been observed around the world, such as a side-by-side loading Chinese model.[2]
Open commercial car carrier trailers typically have a double-decker design, with both decks subdivided into a number of loading and storage ramps that can be tilted and lifted independently of one another with hydraulics. Unlike flatbed tow trucks, which often need to transport non-running vehicles, car carrier trailers are not equipped with loaders or winches, instead, relying on the vehicles to be loaded under their own power. The trailer hydraulics allow the ramps to be aligned on a slope, so cars can be driven up and secured to the ramp floor with chains, tie-down ratchets, or wheel straps, after which the ramp can be tilted in any direction to optimize stacking.
To load vehicles on the top deck of a double-decker commercial trailer, the rear half of the deck can tilt and be lowered hydraulically, forming a drive-up ramp to the upper deck. The top deck is usually loaded first and off-loaded last since the presence of cars on the lower deck can make it impossible to lower the top deck ramp.
Trailer hydraulics are operated using a control box mounted on the trailer itself.
In order to further expand storage capacity, some trucks, typically called stinger units, are equipped with an "overhead" - an extra storage space mounted above the truck cabin which is accessible via the top ramp of a car carrier trailer. Up to 3 vehicles can be loaded on the truck: one on the roof, and two over the 5th wheel/drive tires.

    Life is good.

l'm toying with a scratch built version from the late 40's using AMT's "lowboy" trailer as a base. Obviously holding a max of 5 cars and very limited hydraulic ramp movement. Plus the port hole/ribbed siding limiting cargo view. I've used styrene channel for the actual tread path/ ramps. What you may wish to add here are lengths of plastic band strapping placed within the channel. It is "crosshatched"and gives great effect. Lots of work ahead for me but thought I'd pass the tip to you.

  • @user-ni2zo5zo3c
    @user-ni2zo5zo3c 4 місяці тому

You make this one seem simple! Then again, the full-size auto transport trailer’s utilitarian design and its open form both lend themselves to an ease of the kit’s construction, and in painting it realistically, which Revell AG’s adaptation of the actual apparatus uses to good effect on both counts.
This trailer kit is noticeably larger and rather sturdier than its AMT predecessor. A key concern would be what tractor would pull it, toward making a creditable display; a Kenworth or a Peterbilt might seem obvious. Would such a cab have a sleeper?
Additionally, this auto transport trailer looks to me to be relatively new (I understand the kit dates from 1987, though this feels premature); therefore, some of the available kits of tractors (of relatively limited choices) could be a generation or more older, so something more contemporaneous might prove more realistic.
Also, the automakers would place in the lead a vehicle of its own manufacture; for Ford automobiles, this might be the Ford L 9000, and for General Motors products, perhaps the GMC General Tractor (or something similar). I note all this because I would need to find a suitable model kit to pair with the trailer replica; for me, the best available option would be the Ford L 9000. I would appreciate your feedback on technical and historical accuracy.
    That is the key: accuracy.

when doing truck ( or tractor as you guys call them) trailers, you need 1 if not 2 of the tyres to be completely bald and 1 worn right down on 1 edge lol .. and a few flat spots

Anyone else notice the instructions are wrong about the bumper. The box art has the low part of the bumper touching the frame and the instructions call for the bumper wings to be even with the frame. I noticed it after it was painted 🙈😔

Very nice, I have the older version, do you might know if there are any differences? And I got the one from mitsuwa, too. Do you know that kit? Thanks for sharing, It's kinda funny, when I started collecting kits back in 2010/11, I really wondered that they're barely any kits found on youtube. So that's actually a cool thing to show! Back it up. Maybe I make some performance from some kit, specially when it's requested! Peace✌️👍

I'm not aware of any differences but I'm not a kit historian so I'm sure others will know more.
      Thank you!

two questions for you. the first is can I still find these trailers to assemble?. the second question is on the auto trailers we see today the semi has a platform to put a car on the semi. Is it possible for me to create something like that ? and what would I use thanks!

You Tube makes those decisions, I have no input into it. They use ads to pay for the site so that we can use this site 100% free to us.
I see they have a paid part of YT where you will no longer see ads. Might be an option you'd want to look into. Thanks!

I've been enjoying your videos. Any ideas for modeling with only one hand? Can't remember stand with adjustable arms and alligator clips on the ends. I think it was called mechanical fingers used in electronics. Any suggestion would be much appreciated!

Soldering Helping Hands are what I use, and Tamiya Paint Stands, both will help hold parts.
You can also look up things like flexible arm or clamp holders, etc that could help hold things for you.

Well I watched the video several times and bought the trailer and now I have a very strange question.. Can you tell me how high it is from the table to the top of car #11??? I am making a shadow box for the trailer and tractor and would like to make it before I complete the trailer...
