Peterbilt Motors Company, founded in 1939, is an American manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty trucks. A subsidiary of Paccar, which also owns fellow heavy-duty truck manufacturer Kenworth. Peterbilt Motors is headquartered in Denton, Texas and operates manufacturing facilities in Denton, Texas and Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec.
378: Similar to the 379, the 378 has a fiberglass hood and steeper hood slope. It was not available in a long hood, but was available in set back front axle (SBFA) configurations. The 378 was popular in local and vocational trucking, as well as over the road applications.[5] Available 1986-2007. Whereas, the 378 and 379 both are available in a 119.5" BBC, the 378 sits two inches ( higher above the frame rails compared to the 379. This accounts for the slight downward angle to the hood.
In the 1960s and 1970s, 30" and 36" sleepers were available. If a buyer wanted a larger sleeper, Peterbilt worked with Mercury Sleepers for 40", 60", and custom sized sleepers. Mercury would paint the sleeper to match the factory paint or the sleeper came with polished quilted aluminum. In 1978, Peterbilt's engineers were tasked with making a bigger sleeper. They designed the 63" sleeper with rounded doors and a walk-through from the cab. The sleeper debuted on a 359-127" and can be seen in the 1978 brochure "Best in Class". This truck also featured the first set of rectangular headlamps. The first raised roof (high cube) sleeper was on a 359 in 1986 and with changes (no right hand forward door) carried through to the 379 family. In 1994, the Unibilt sleeper debuted with air-ride suspension for the cab and sleeper with a large cab to sleeper opening. The Unibilt sleeper suspension had a one piece shock/air bag mount system from 1994 to 2006, until Peterbilt redesigned the suspension system for the 2007 model year, making the shock and air bag system on separate brackets. The Unibilt cab/sleeper option allowed for the sleeper to be removed for a daycab conversion. The UltraSleeper was Peterbilt's largest and most luxurious. At 70" long, it featured a right-hand access door, table, closet and a small "wet closet" accessible from the driver's side to store boots, gloves, and other 'damp' items. The last UltraSleeper was built in 2005

I built this kit years ago but it was by Italeri. What a beautiful kit. I did the box image which was metallic blue with the silver stripes. I'm OCD so there was not one of the beautiful details left untouched. It looks like the real thing. Was definitely one of my favorite kit builds.

This is a beautiful tractor. This looks like it went together trouble free but you are an expert. I did notice that you left off the two convex mirrors. There also are no cb antennas. I purchased two kits. I want to make one look like my personal 379 and I also purchased two amt reefer trailers that you built. I hope mine come out as close as yours did. I'm amazed at how easy you make it look to paint and build. I'm going to use the little tricks you showed us. Thanks for sharing your technique and builds with us you are the man at building.

Italian plastic model kit manufacturer Italeri, sold the molds of this kit to AMT of Round 2.This kit sells for about $68.00 MSRP under the Italeri brand.Seeing as this is an Italeri 1/24 scale kit;reboxed as an AMT kit,it probably comes with Italeri decals rebranded as AMT decals.
Because this is a short hood Peterbilt 378,the engine in this kit, replicates a small cam 430 hp six silynder turbocharged; Detroit diesel engine. The reason how i know this,is because six silynder Detroits;were usually painted with the metallic blue-gray color you mentioned. The engine replicated in this kit,was manufactured by the Detriot engine division of GM from ~1986 until production ended in 2007 as the Detroit engine division of GM, filed for bank ruptcy;because of the EPA's environmental regulations.Simply put it,just like Caterpillar,it was too expensive and impractical;for the Detroit engine division of GM,to comply with the strict and stringent environmental regulations, and emissions standards;and still make a profit.
GM did the smart thing 12-15 years ago at the time;and that was getting out of the diesel engine business for commercial vehicles. Some of Peterbilt's trucks came with six silynder Detroits until 2007;when Detriot engine division of GM filed for bank ruptcy;at which point Paccar announced that from now on,only Cummins,Paccar, and Mercedes Benz diesel engines;would be available for both Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks.

Companies rent out molds all the time. Almost every company pays other companies to run a mold and resell it under their brand for a bit.

    • @devinrussell2372
      @devinrussell2372 4 роки тому

      @@doninwv You are welcome.
It is also common for plastic model kit manufacturers to sell or lease their molds with eachother. But,the MSRP of this re-release by AMT of Round 2 is still the same retail price that was listed back when this was sold by/under Italeri.Meaning if this kit was worth $68.00-$88.00 then,it will be sold for the same amount of money retail hobby shops were charging which is in the $68.00-$88.00 dollar range.Even though this reboxed Italeri kit is now being sold under AMT,this is not a cheap kit.

You make model making looks easy and relaxing, its so inspiring especially for people like me ( or maybe others) that love plastic model building as much as hate to spends alot on material (paint, detail kit etc.). I see you using all purpose paint which are much cheaper and also using amateur style painting straight from the can without decanting for airbrush etc. and still looks good, watching other channel looks superb but also intimidating (for me). Your model building videos are really inspiring sir.

One of the reasons this kit is so nice is that it is not an AMT kit, it is a reissue of the Italeri 378 kit that they have been making since 1997. It has been reissued several times and this is just the latest and it is done by Round2/AMT. Italeri kits are always great kits, lots of details and always go together very well. BTW, that is a Detroit 60 series engine. Each engine maker has its own color.

Ugh. Just when I thought I finally saved enough "kit budget" to get me the 1/16 Revell 359, AMT comes up with this Peterbilt beauty. Choices choices.
Very nice one, and beautiful build. I don't can't/mind/see the paint issue you're talking about, truck looks awesome.

I've done big rig builds before and I believe they were Monogram but this is a beauty of a tractor. You did an awesome job with this one. A blue or black exterior color would have made them decals pop for sure but I like the red as well. Again great job on this build. Love it. Keep On Truckin. 😊👍

With the glass parts I dip them in futura floor wax. It covers any imperfections in the plastic and are perfectly clear.

Amazing model. I tried to build the much earlier variant. I had poor results. It was me, not the kit. It was way above my skill grade in those days. Patience and such was not in my Lexicon of being a kid. Doubt really that I could still do it today, so I admire talents like you that do these well. I did build an AMT Mack truck that came out nice. Took me months to finish but even my brother thought I did a good job and he and my Dad are the model builders. I am an AV guy making it look and sounding good. I leave the models to pros like you. Love your build here.

I’ve noticed that this is the only truck to have a Detroit 60 series instead of a Cummins NTA855 Big Cam or Cat 3406A/B IDITA/DITA. I love buying center parts and customizing 1/32 scale and other 1/24 scale trucks. The stacks from a 1/24 or 1/25 look great on the 1/32. Sea foam green works for the 60 series Detroit but we have one at my FD that is all black with a silver valve cover

Chris, that was an excellent review and build on the Peterbilt 378! You can tell this was the original Italeri Peterbilt 378 molds. All the same parts. I built a couple of the Italeri kits back in 2002. I know what you mean about the grey primer being bad. I recently had that issue with a can I bought. Keep up the good work Sir!

Nice build! I like what AMT did with the decals, I hope they get more kits like this in the near future. I have built this one and modified it to look like a short hood 379. I painted it like a vintage Laidlaw tractor based on some internet pictures I found. I was a bit mistified with the multi piece cab at first but it did go together perfectly. It is a great kit to build honestly. Good job with yours by the way.
