    Finally I have mastered the pomp.. No longer does it look sloppy, no longer is it parted in certain areas.. My pomp is coming out just how I want it.. Like yours.. I use Royal Crown and Murray's.. Royal Crown gives it a nice shine while Murrays hold's it together.. Before the hairs on my unparted side would part so my pomp would look incomplete but Murrays keeps it together.. I'm happy.. I get all kinds of people telling me I look like Elvis, or that I look like a greaser.. Girls love my hair.. I'm not even kidding when I'm at work atleast once or twice a day a customer will tell me I remind them of Elvis or of a Greaser.. Thanks for the tutorial man..

    I learned when Elvis was a teenager/young adult. His favorite actor was Tony Curtis. And Elvis really liked how Tony styled his hair so he asked his mom for a perm since Elvis' hair was very straight.

    First, thanks for the great tutorial. Your style is awesome man! Just have a quick question, hope you have some insight. My hair is like barely touching the bridge of my nose and is kind of thick and wavy. Do you have any tips on being able to style it like you? Thanks ! 👍🏻

    • @joeavo6556
      @joeavo6556  6 років тому +1

      You may find it to be a little tricky as your hair is thicker than mine but if you're using a heavy pomade a lot then it should stop your hair from splitting
      The best piece of advice I can give when your hair is on the shorter side is don't expect perfection because it will split a lot, mine does if its too short to control
      I've found that the optimal length for the front is to the tip of your nose so you're not far off but I would recommend just growing your front slightly and I'm sure you'll see a difference

    I'm still getting used to doing a pomp.. I've been using Suavecito I ran out recently so I'm going to try the Lucky Tiger Royal Crown combo.. Should be coming in within a week or so. My problem when I do my pomps is that the front separates it'll look solid more towards my part then unparted side is my problem.. It's more separated.. What I do instead of having a proper pomp is I let some hairs hang down, like how Elvis does during his shows.. Hopefully when I get Lucky Tiger and Royal Crown I can have a pomp looking like yours..

I'm asking you because I don't have the lucky tiger...Alternatively I also have the black and withe... could I maybe use the black and withe for the sides and the royal crown for the topknot? What do you suggest me?

    would you need to use any hairspray?? or would the products be able to hold the hair during the day. I feel with my pomp it tends to lose shape throughout the day and was wondering what would be the soloution. Loving the vids mate :)

      Joseph Avo Will Black & White brand Pomade wash out of my hair easily?

      - Wayne

    • @joeavo6556
      @joeavo6556  7 років тому

      Nesorel black and white will give you a little trouble getting it out due to the nature of the product
      it's oil based so will want to stay on the hair for longer
      really you want to fully degrease from the product for at least 2 days in a row each week
      it gives the hair and scalp a break and will reduce the chance of acne on your scalp which can occasionally occur
      you won't be able to wash it out in one shower session you'll probably get a good 3 quarters out but a quick shampoo the following day should get it out fully

    Great tutorial man! I don't think I've seen anyone get Elvis's hair right like you do! My question is, why is it that in some photos taken in 1956, his hair appeared wet instead of the shiny and strong look that can be achieved by using pomade?

    • @joeavo6556
      @joeavo6556  7 років тому

      This was because he also used vaseline hair tonic which is just a liquid hair product
      That's likely why it looks wet

    • @jonathanfaessel653
      @jonathanfaessel653 7 років тому

      +Jonathan Faessel I didn't actually have anything in my hair to start this video

    • @jonathanfaessel653
      @jonathanfaessel653 7 років тому +1

      Really!? When my hair is damp there is no way I can even achieve that swirl! I thought it could only be achieved by using pomade or vaseline

    • @joeavo6556
      @joeavo6556  7 років тому +1

      +Jonathan Faessel it all depends on your hair type really and how long it is

      but one turn of the head and my hair would have been down straight away

    • @joeavo6556
      @joeavo6556  6 років тому

      Ron Thunders it's probably the most important part of having the hairstyle
      Try getting it thinned out next time you go to get a haircut with a thinning scissors
      It'll help get rid of some of the weight that thick hair tends to have

    I am left handed. When I try to do the swirl with my right hand it's not as swirly as with my left hand. When I do the pomp with my left hand the wave goes in to the other direction, the pomp gets mirrored and doesnt look good at all. What could I do?

    • @joeavo6556
      @joeavo6556  7 років тому +2

      Klaas Van den berg you need to practice using your left hand then
      The mirror can really be confusing at first but give it some time and remember that whatever you do usually just reverse the direction

    DearJoseph, love your videos on Elvis hair styling. Can you please recommend me a pomade with strong hold and high shine? Possibly one oil based and one water based. I am currently using the Uppercut deluxe, which I bought after reading several "best pomade" list in the internet and before finding your videos. I actually like it if wasnt that it makes my scalp itch pretta badly and the shine is ok but not Elvis kind of shine. Yes I'm m an Elvis fan so the closer I can get his pompadour, the better ;) I am also kind of worried to go with the oil based after all the reviews I read: difficult to wash away, hair greesy, pillow stained etc. What do you think on this regard. Thanks,Raffaele

    • @joeavo6556
      @joeavo6556  7 років тому

      OK, thanks for the questions Raffaele. To answer the oil based question first. Oil based are more difficult to wash out and aren't really meant to be washed out completely every day. I will wash my hair properly every two days and in between I rinse my hair with a small bit of shampoo in the shower.
      The higher the hold the harder it is to remove. So I personally use lighter products and still achieve what I would with heavy products.
      There's not really one pomade that has both high hold and high shine. I use black and white pomade all the time which is in between light and medium and it has good hold and great shine. I recommend that for oil based and layrite super shine for water based, which is not bad for hold and has amazing shine.
      I hope I answered your questions and don't hesitate to ask any more.

      My pillows have never been stained because I give my hair a little wash with just water to remove that greasy feel before I go to bed

      Btw, forgot to tell you that you look so damn like Elvis in the '50 that watching you in the video feels like having the tutorial made by Elvis himself. Gotta admit I was sooo jealous (in a good way) cause your hair are exactly like his and when you finished combing..boy..couldn't tell the difference between you and Elvis and even when you moved to show how Elvis' hair would move and shake but still stay in position...I said to myself...WOW....
      Wish I had been so lucky in my looks like you. Hope you can sing and/or are learning to sing because you're going to make the hell of an ETA ;)
      Sincerely,
      Raffaele

      just one last thing: you prefer black and white to Royal Crown? if yes, can I ask you why? I heard that Elvis used either of the two or both...

    • @raffaelvis
      @raffaelvis 7 років тому

      Ok, ok one very last, hopefully.. see my hair is thin and not straight, meaning, not super curly, but if I let them air dry for example they turn curly, but with a hairdryer I can straight them. This to tell you what kind of hair I have, which means that I need something stronger to keep them straight and prevent curls coming up from the sides and behind and I'm afraid that with an oil based or at least a light oil, my hair would just turn curly. Do you think black and white would be fine for my hair? Have you had any hitching issue with any pomade?

      Thanks for the reply :)... I'll probably give that one a try after I try the Royal Crown Lucky Tiger Combo.. I have another question.
      When you pull the hair forward are you bringing the comb toward the part or away from the part? I hear in the video you say "Pull towards the part." But I've heard to away from the part.
      Sorry to bother you so much. I've just always wanted a pomp since I was a kid I was raised on Elvis, Johnny Cash and films such as The Outsiders and The Wanderers. I comb my hair just how you do. But I just can't seem to get it just like you do. I feel my swirl separates alot, do you have any tips? Or if it's not separated on my swirl the unparted side kinda looks messy, you got any tips for getting the unparted side looking good? Do you do the swirl motion on the unparted side still or do you just comb it back? I wish there was a way I could show you my hair and you could take a look at it and tell me what I need to do. >:(
