From one daughter who's lost a beloved father to another, from one daughter of immigrants to another, and from a New Yorker to another, I send you my tender understanding and support. I am so dearly sorry.

That’s what my mom said to me “go home, finish up your finals, I’ll be fine, see you tomorrow.” As I drove out and entered the freeway, my dad calls me and said “mom passed”. I was only 18. I’m glad you were able to have great conversations with your dad.

When it was my grandpa's time to die (Alzheimer's/dementia), there was another elderly lady on the bed in front of him in the hospital (based on her accent I think she was Scottish). She beckoned me to come close to her and she told me something I will never forget: if you get the chance to say goodbye, mourn and grieve, but know it was an honour for them to have known you and you to have known them. I held my grandpa's hand when he died and it was an honour to be there with him to say goodbye.
Even if you might never read this, I cannot express how sorry I feel for your loss. Dads are the long, warm and cozy embrace you never cease to look for your whole life. Sending all my good thoughts to you and your family.
What a loving and respectful decision you, your mom and father made to enter him into hospice care. And you asking if that’s what he really wants is a daughter who just wanted her daddy still at her side, not wanting to say the final goodbye. When my mother was diagnosed with glioblastoma (inoperable cancerous brain tumor), she chose to let nature take its course, our youngest brother had a hard time with that choice but finally conceded (he and his wife were mom’s MPOA and regular POA) after speaking with her and the rest of us siblings (me and two older brothers). She went to palliative care immediately and transitioned to hospice care within 4 months of her diagnosis (she was given 6-9 months) and she passed away at the 8 month mark. One of her statements to all of us in a Zoom call was: “I’ve lived a good life for 82 years and watched my children grow up and become grandparents- and I love you all.” That’s what she said when she made the final decision to not do anything “heroic” to prolong her life, but choosing to allow her life to end naturally was one of the most heroic decisions she made knowing we didn’t want to lose her. Grieve for however long you need to and know you were and are loved by your dad and your mom and that you love back.
Your dad sounded like a wonderful man and his love shines through you Michele. Condolences to you, your mom and brother.

Amen. Lost my mother almost 40 years ago - she was young and so was I - and lost my dad almost 23 years ago. It was a struggle. I still think of them every day. I was the only girl, and the youngest, and such a daddy’s girl. They are always with us ♥️
Losing your dad is devastating. I lost my dad 19 years ago. I can tell you that, one day, you will feel more joy and warmth when you think of him than the excruciating sadness you now feel. A parent's death also makes our own mortality more real. In the swirl of these emotions, we learn even more to cherish each day. 🙏
When does that day come? I lost my dad in 2013 and it is still such a huge struggle for me.
this, my Daddy has been gone for 34, will be 35 years in October. Which was also his 53rd birthday around the 1st. I miss him so badly still to this day but my memories are warm and happy now instead of devastating, crushing and painful. Michele, I am so very sorry.
I miss my Daddy today just as much as when he passed. This year more so than ever because I'm going to be a grandma for the first time. He would have been tickled pink at the though of a great grandchild. He never got to meet any and the first from his Ponchi would have had him go crazy buying and putting together the baby's room. He was my handyman and everything person. 😭😭😭😭

I’m so sorry for your loss. My daughter and I lost our Jim from brain cancer in October. Covid made his diagnosis, treatment and hospice so incredibly difficult. Take care of yourself, I understand your heart is broken. 😥

I was a hospice nurse for six years I lost my father when I was working in hospice so the last two years were so difficult I was a daddy’s girl as well grief is quite the roller coaster ride my prayers go out to you your family and to your subscribers xo

Sorry for your loss. Couldn't watch past 2:32. That stupid cancer happened to my mom. She passed away 3 years ago at 57 years old and I still can't believe it and accept it that she's gone. Sending a lot of love and support to your mom.

Cancer of all types is the scourge of the Earth. I lost my dad to colorectal cancer at age 59. That was 36 yrs ago. I miss him every day.

THE ABACUS? That just broke me down. My dad did the same thing, and endearingly, it's something I will cherish, same as you. When you open up to us, some of us total strangers, it helps us all. It reminded me to cherish my dad, who was also diagnosed two months ago. You're a beautiful soul, wonderful daughter, and it's inspiring to watch how grateful you are at a time when you might be so inclined to give up or hate the world. Special love to your mom, who must be suffering in a profound way, one in which I can't even imagine. Stay strong.

Oh, Michelle. My heart breaks for you. If it’s any comfort I went through the same thing. My mother lived with me for three years and then was suddenly diagnosed with cancer on New Year 2020. The doctor literally said, “Happy New Year, you have inoperable cancer.” She had hospice for a month and passed away. January 23rd 2020. The year from hell. It’s been a year and I will tell you; you will miss him so much but will treasure the memories of your life together.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Cancer is such a horrible disease. While I’m thankful that your father is a peace and no longer suffering, losing a parent is like losing a piece of yourself. I know from experience. So my heart goes out to you and your family. The story about your father’s excitement for your UA-cam plaque was so sweet. When my grandmother passed away from lung cancer I remember her giving me this incredible hug after giving her her medication. It was the kind of embrace that felt like goodbye. It was the best moment I could ask for because she did it before she lost control of her body. I think being able to say goodbye brings so much closure. And while it’s never easy to lose a parent, being able to say goodbye is such a blessing. The biggest virtual hug to you, Michele.

Michele, I am so sorry. My dad passed away November 2019 from cancer and I am crying along with you during this whole video. Grief is a long process. My heartfelt condolences Michele. Losing my dad was tough. He had a degenerative brain disease (PSP) and watching him go downhill was so difficult. We took advantage of hospice care for my dad and later my mom (ovarian cancer). The caregivers were wonderful, providing care for my parents and for us as a family. We are here for you for long distance support Michele and whenever you need to talk.

I am so so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you've had the last few years to spend so much time with him. It's been 15 years since I lost my Dad and like you I was my father's daughter. It's so hard to lose someone with such a big personality, it leaves a gap that you can never fill. But eventually the loss subsides and thinking of him will make you happy instead of sad. You, your father, mother, and brother will all be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish there was more I could do.
