I loved this movie as well. can't wait for the new Toho Godzilla film, and the other Legendary Pictures kaiju movies they're making like Kong: Skull Island and the Godzilla sequel. also am hoping for a Pacific Rim 2.
Guy can be a good actor but he lacks range. This was a bad role for him. I enjoyed his work in Kickass ad Age Of Ultron. In which his wife from this film was his sister...
The MUTO's EMP does have an actual natural evolution purpose if you look into it (read the novelisation and making of book) The Gojira species and the MUTO species were natural enemies thus needed ways to combat and defeat each other, the EMP is to disable Godzilla's atomic breath.
Actually, I don't think that was an EMP. If you want a closer representation of what an EMP is, watch Pacific Rim or Captain America: Civil War. What the MUTOs used was something that seemed to disrupt electronics rather than outright fry them.
I like that idea, but it should have been explained in the film, and how was Godzilla able to get the Atomic breath off in that case? It was probably in the book right.
At least Kong: Skull Island kept all of the good characters until near the end of the film. Who thought it was a good idea to kill Bryan Cranston halfway through Godzilla?
Actually, considering that Godzilla's nuclear breath is...well, thermonuclear, the MUTOs EMP makes sense. It would severely dampen the power of his breath of increase the time it takes for him to charge it since an EMP is off setting the charges of electrons
@@kevinmoore2474 "Atomic Breath" is the name of his attack. It's like calling Ryu's Shoryuken an uppercut. Technically correct, but brings great shame upon your family.
From what I heard, the MUTO's EMP was to prevent Godzilla from using his atomic breath. Cause Godzilla has an electrical sac in his stomach, which creates the atomic breath.
well.. the nuclear breath is really hot (can melt boulders) so he might've melted her insides and they eat radiation. not absorb it but Godzilla's breath shoved down there (again, his atomic breath is very hot) results in death. this is just my explanation, so it might be wrong
I mean, that makes sense. Its like if you have fire proof skin, yeah, fire isn't gonna do much to you from the outside but if someone shoves it down your throat then that's another story. Something that eats radioactive waste or material probably can only take a certain amount of radiation at once, and it probably takes some time to digest because, well, radiation, but something as concentrated and intense as Godzilla's radioactive breath would probably be too pure to digest right or far too hot to even digest or absorb at all. Kinda like alcohol I guess, you can turn alcohol into something drinkable, but if its just pure ethanol then that's gonna kill you. I dunno. Something like that. Its tired and I'm late.
for one thing taco your right... the atomic breath was evolved by Godzilla as a self defense mechanism and they do eat radiation not absorb it. but decker also didn't think about the fact that in all instances but this the atomic breath of most Godzilla's takes up the whole mouth so most likely the male M.U.T.O. E.M.P. blast is to weaken the atomic breaths strength.
The EMP bursts could by a side effect of radiation fueled bioluminescence, sort of like how some deep sea fish generate bright flashes to attract mates or intimidate predators. It was interesting choice from the filmmakers to opt to showing the monsters always from the human perspective, low angle shots, news helicopters, military aircraft etc. Godzilla (2014) is sort of like a documentary given the style it is filmed, completely from the human perspective, unlike the previous Western Godzilla which was more on the default action/monster movie style of cinematography.

If you're still wondering about the MUTO'S EMP blast, Godzilla in the 1960's did have the ability to fire off a short-range 'nuclear pulse.' Basically it's main purpose was to repel any opponent that was grappling with him. I'm guessing that the MUTOS use their EMP to swat away nuisances like fighter jets, which to them are as bothersome as mosquitos. Of course that wouldn't mean squat against an alpha-predator like Godzilla.I wonder if you and Creepy would do a reaction to Godzilla vs Gamera Death Battle.
Decker the director said that Ghidorah and Mothra are going to be in the sequel, and there's even a Godzilla Vs King Kong movie on the way as well. Just thought that might interest you if you haven't heard
Godzilla: King Of The Monsters (Legendary) will, besides Godzilla, feature King Gidorah, Rodan and Mothra, or how I like to call them together, the Japanese Big Four.
I personally loved the movie. When you first see Godzilla and he roars, literally was in tears with chills. Also, Aaron did alright, he's playing a solider, not much there (in the movie's context).
Flying kaiju, and it wasn't Mothra... They went for their own creation, which evolved from bats instead of moths... but somehow still hatch in eggs and have a three-stage life cycle, where the middle stage is cocooning?
Also in the movie it's stated the MUTOs use the EMP originally not as an attack, but as a unique way to communicate. Which makes some sense given these things are supposed to be on a completely different evolutionary route than all other animals. In the novelization and 1st draft of the story the EMP blasts also kept Godzilla from using his breath attack's ignition so it did make some sense in that context as well.
I love Godzilla. Been a fan of his since I was a child. Considering I'm also a fan of Decker Shados reviews, combining both is an amazing experience for me. Just Decker-Gojira so Win-Win.
Thank you so much for uploading this review I've been waiting for you to cover it for like a year now and I was having a really really bad day, just thank you
And here, I thought it was the setting of my TV as to why it was so dark and I could barely see it. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Another awesome review!
You might want to try to be a little more lenient on king of the monsters as it did great things for American perception of Japan and its people considering ww2 had ended 11 years ago and at the time Toho pushed for the dub which was very expensive. And Raymond burr was added as the audience to help ease people into it as many were uncomfortable with just Japanese people on screen after ww2. This and it's milestone for that amongst it was even exported back were it became as popular as the original. Though I do agree we shouldn't be editing films for American release today.
Sorry if you already know all of this I don't want change your opinion as I respect it very much and I've learned a lot about film from watching your stuff.
The whole part about dying from the breath or not reminded me of when you listed what does (not) cause possession in the Evil Dead series. Either way, keep up the amazing work.
I know about the problems with this film but I don't care. It's awesome. Toho will be releasing Godzilla Resurgence or Shin Gojira soon however I prefer the Legendary Films design. This time Japan fucked up the design and America did great. Still I'm sure it'll be a kick ass kaiju film.
Great review! I loved the movie and the slow build up! You should do a review of Gareth Edwards' first monsters movie called.. ehm... Monsters. It's an interesting watch. It also focuses more on the human drama, the monsters being pretty much in the background. It's a cool monster movie though, for the budget that it had. Oh btw, my Blu-Ray doesn't look dark at all, but I have the 3D version so maybe there's a difference. I'm also pretty sure that being able to see AvP:R isn't in any way an improvement...
Being a Godzilla fan yourself, I KNEW you enjoyed this film. I appreciate your brutal, unbiased honesty. I whole-heartedly agree with the nitpicks you had, and the score you gave it. Not perfect, but as close as you can get to a perfect 'Godzilla' movie.. Minus the cutaways and the fact it's Made-in-America. Lol Now.. onto your Shin Godzilla review.
The emp is a byproduct of a defense mechanism that prevents Godzilla from using his atomic breath. The Mutos started using the emps just for him, which is why he never used it till the climax, but over time started setting it off to stop the humans and that defense only lasts so long.
Hey Decker, loved the review man! Watched your reviews for awhile, and they're always too notch and make me laugh, but also consider your points and opinions in addition to my own I've formed from watching the movies myself. I did want to ask if I could give a request for two films I'd love to see you give reviews on, which are 1989's Leviathan and Deepstar Six, both underwater monster movies. I haven't seen many reviews of them on UA-cam, and I'd love to see you tackle them and hear your opinions on them! Have a good one bro, and keep at it with the entertaining reviews!
A lot of complaints people had about this movie are complaints they'd have had if the 1954 original was released today. Gareth Edwards made a movie blending the style that made him famous in Monsters, and the movie he loved growing up in Godzilla (1954). I can't really put it down to the movie being the major issue so much as the changing perception and expectations of audiences.
Hey Decker, if Mothra appears in the next movie, will you do the review with Creepy? Also I don't know if you know that there is another JAPANESE Godzilla film coming out......I thin....not sure
Thank you, but I heard rumors that Mothra would appear in the next Godzilla from Legendary pictures so I wanted to know if Creepy and Chibithulhu would join Decker on that movies review
The mute evolved those emps as a defence mechanism as it disrupts Godzillas atomic breath, dont know why but that's the most sense I can make out of it.
Commenting on the whole "Muto's eating radiation should equal Atomic Breath being good for them" thing We eat turkey and drink water but if you had both blasted at you at intense speeds and high heat you still probably wouldn't walk away unscathed
@Floofie kun yes, but this one is in only 8-10 minutes and is obscure as hell, the Japanese movies have him for 10++ minutes and front and center into the action.
I really like the MUTO but the bulky Godzilla isn't quite right. Looks bad like in that Netflix 3 parter. But the story sucks. The marketing leads you to believe Brian Cranston is the big star throughout, but they off him early in the story. The rest of the cast suck. The monorail scene doesn't add anything to the story.
The 10 second fight was made because Godzilla fanboys were crying about Zilla 98 so Toho did it as a "TAKE THAT" gesture, but it hasn't stopped elitist fans from complaining two decades later, lol. That being said I like Zilla and Godzilla respectively.
8:51 in the novelization, the muto’s emp in interrupt and shut off the charge atomic breath of Godzilla (not when he shoot it, it’s when he charges the atomic breath.) Because the mutos are parasites to Godzilla’s kind however they could not feed off the atomic breath due to it being in a energy or plasma state opposed to Godzilla can by standing near, inside, or right on top of the radiation area, and sometimes via his spikes, however if it still inside of a kajiu or anything that contains the radiation, the mutos can feed off that.
I can't shake the feeling that someone made a Call of Duty movie and then lost the rights to the brand at the last minute, so they threw together 5 minutes-worth of CGI monsters and called it a Godzilla movie.
The funny thing about when I saw the movie in theaters, my company National Broadband Services, had just the month before completely re-wired all 3,000 rooms in Treasure Islands's hotel...I ACTUALLY YELLED OUT, "I JUST FINISHED THAT CASINO!"
Exactly. That annoyed me that he kept the same expression throughout the movie even in moments when his dad dies, when he comes face to face with the female MUTO and Godzilla himself and when he is reunited with his wife at the end. I felt like shouting "DUDE YOU HAVE EMOTIONS. USE THEM. YOU'RE NOT A FUCKING TERMINATOR"
The reason the Muto has an EMP attack because originally the Muto was supposed to use it to cut off Godzilla's atomic breath when they fight for the second time. But it got cut out.
god this movie was complete dogshit I fucking hated it here are the three glaring problems with this movie 1. they fucking killed off bryan cranston and gave us a wooden board with no emotion as the main character look if you are gonna go to the bother of getting Bryan Cranston then fucking use him his scenes were the only ones in the movie where I actually cared about what was happening. 2. they try to use nukes to kill the kaiju THAT FEED OFF OF NUCLEAR RADIATION!!!! and the final and most unforgivable one 3. THEY KEPT CUTTING AWAY FROM THE FUCKING KAIJU FIGHTS this pissed me off the most I payed eleven thats right eleven fucking pounds to see a movie called GODZILLA and there was barely any GODZILLA in it until the very end even then the fight doesnt last that long. at least in other godzilla movies when godzilla shows up you get to see him fight for more than 2 minutes.
AGREED. This movie sucked ass as a Godzilla film. I mean I enjoyed what little I saw of Godzilla but that doesn't justify it being "good"... I'm waiting to torrent the new shin Gojira movie when it hits Japan theatres this July. I'm so fucking excited for a real Godzilla movie finally.
I left the theater appalled at what I saw FUCK THIS MOVIES IN ITS RECTAL CAVITY It's awful and I agree why all your points also the monsters suck design somethings more original next time and the Japanese dude was awesome yet they barely used him
Hey Decker, I love your videos and I think you're awesome man, about the muto's emp. Although I agree it's ridiculous that it has one, I read a source that the muto and godzilla were symbiotic and it's emp was a way to suppress godzilla' atomic breath, and that's why he used it so little in the fights.

I should mention that skull island is a prequel
david Lewis and almost all of its cast have been or have been cast in marvel films, even john c reily was in guardians of the galaxy 😂
Dan Lane also marvel at one point owned the right to Godzilla comics, Godzilla is mcu confermed XDDD
david Lewis No, IDW owns the rights now.
+DystrVction which is a real shame cause I want to see a battle between the Hulk and Godzilla (and I honestly do not know who would win that fight)
kelly wilson whitehead Godzilla. Marvel already had Godzilla fight all the avengers in their 70s comic series.
I love Godzilla. Been a fan of his since I was a child. Considering I'm also a fan of Decker Shados reviews, combining both is an amazing experience for me. Just Decker-Gojira so Win-Win.
Am I the only one who noticed that decker skipped over about HALF of the fight in the last quarter of the movie?
Thank you so much for uploading this review I've been waiting for you to cover it for like a year now and I was having a really really bad day, just thank you
That is probably what it should be called, "The Legendary Godzilla".
So freaking close to 30K! Congrats decker!
"say my name. "
"Walter White"
"your God dam right!"
9:00 I don't know why that is my favorite part of the whole video
godzilla and mothra where in love in videos called godzilla and mothra
Glad to see the video back up.
godzillas constantly shot at and still fights for us anyway ._.
Not intentionally.
Sounds like Godzilla would have been a good Marine. He can be on my rifle team any day.
The whole part about dying from the breath or not reminded me of when you listed what does (not) cause possession in the Evil Dead series. Either way, keep up the amazing work.
apparently the sequel will have godzilla's classic foe king ghidorah
Congratulations turns out you were correct, Rodan Mothra and King Ghidorah are going to be in the sequel. Sploosh.
Korrect
@@drblue5819 And some complain that the Kaijus battle took to much of the screen time.
Decker you're the best man. Love you're reviews
Aewsome review! I'd love to see you review the Godzilla films that you have yet to review!
ever realize how decker looks like Weird Al
Actually Forest fire was a good balance idea. The fire destroys the canopy so that smaller plants are grow and feed the environment of animals.
18:49
They should rename this
"Generic army guy, and Godzilla somewhere in the background"
Great review! I loved the movie and the slow build up! You should do a review of Gareth Edwards' first monsters movie called.. ehm... Monsters. It's an interesting watch. It also focuses more on the human drama, the monsters being pretty much in the background. It's a cool monster movie though, for the budget that it had. Oh btw, my Blu-Ray doesn't look dark at all, but I have the 3D version so maybe there's a difference. I'm also pretty sure that being able to see AvP:R isn't in any way an improvement...
Godzilla! Godzilla! And Godzookie, doodoo doodoo doooo!!
***** As did we all. :3
+Lupucillo I hated it, and this movie, both were just as unfaithful as the 1998 movie.
Uh i think its widely known that the cartoon was well recieved
I love how Aaron and Elizabeth are married in this movie but play siblings in avengers age of ultron. Awkward
PPLLLEEAASSSEEEE, Review Turbokid.
Lol
Now.. onto your Shin Godzilla review.
Random question Decker!
Which metalband is your favorite right now? :D
The emp is a byproduct of a defense mechanism that prevents Godzilla from using his atomic breath. The Mutos started using the emps just for him, which is why he never used it till the climax, but over time started setting it off to stop the humans and that defense only lasts so long.
Review the Berserk Golden Age Arc trilogy... It's right up your alley... Trust me..
Let's hope that the 2017 or 18 have the kaijus fight in the day time...easier to see
The sequel won't come out till 2019 let's hope kong skull island is good
...FUCK!
+JaQuan Millery Godzilla Resurgence will come out on DVD in 2017, so you got that.
I got a firestick...I'll be fine
lets hope they actually focus on the bloody fights this time.
Found your Channel some Days ago, and hell yeah, I love it! Informative and amusing. Great!
Just, call it Legendary Godzilla
A lot of complaints people had about this movie are complaints they'd have had if the 1954 original was released today. Gareth Edwards made a movie blending the style that made him famous in Monsters, and the movie he loved growing up in Godzilla (1954). I can't really put it down to the movie being the major issue so much as the changing perception and expectations of audiences.
Hey Decker, if Mothra appears in the next movie, will you do the review with Creepy? Also I don't know if you know that there is another JAPANESE Godzilla film coming out......I thin....not sure
yep Godzilla: Resurgence. comes out July 29th.
There is a new movie.
Thank you, but I heard rumors that Mothra would appear in the next Godzilla from Legendary pictures so I wanted to know if Creepy and Chibithulhu would join Decker on that movies review
YES DECKER UPLOADED TODAY
This is my favorite Godzilla movie ever!
Have you seen any others at all?
I like almost all good Godzilla movies besides 1998 but this was the closest thing to godzilla so it was amazing :)
i agree with you.
Final Wars is my favorite.
have you even seen the original japanese version?, this movie is subpar, its algon the lines of a heisei movie
The mute evolved those emps as a defence mechanism as it disrupts Godzillas atomic breath, dont know why but that's the most sense I can make out of it.
15:20 "taking it into downtown Las Angeles?" Wait it's in SF...
.....oops.
+Decker Shado love your videos man. Keep making amazing reviews.
Commenting on the whole "Muto's eating radiation should equal Atomic Breath being good for them" thing
We eat turkey and drink water but if you had both blasted at you at intense speeds and high heat you still probably wouldn't walk away unscathed
My only problem with this movie is that there wasn't enough Godzilla for me
+Floofie kun I know, that's the problem
@Floofie kun yes, but this one is in only 8-10 minutes and is obscure as hell, the Japanese movies have him for 10++ minutes and front and center into the action.
The anime Godzilla movie only has a *cameo* by Godzilla.
Review the King Kong movies!!!
yeah
The reason godzilla's nuke fire killed the last muto was a overdose of nuclear energy
I heard there's going to be a King Kong vs Godzilla movie
Lil Penis that is truth 0
I really like the MUTO but the bulky Godzilla isn't quite right. Looks bad like in that Netflix 3 parter. But the story sucks. The marketing leads you to believe Brian Cranston is the big star throughout, but they off him early in the story. The rest of the cast suck. The monorail scene doesn't add anything to the story.
I the second movie will have mothra rodan and wait for it king king gadora
The EMP evolved in the M.U.T.O to weaken godzilla's atomic breath when he used it on them.
deadpool review?
"Godzilla vs Godzilla, Legendary vs Tristar! It's a short film" Damnit Decker my sides!
I want zilla to fight Godzilla in the next one
Final Wars did that already. It was short
Awesome scene. I was initially disappointed it was such a short fight, but it's only suiting that he made such short work of him/her.
IDW's version was better.
LEGO GOJI Davidson Yep, it didn't portray Zilla as an idiot like Final Wars did.
The 10 second fight was made because Godzilla fanboys were crying about Zilla 98 so Toho did it as a "TAKE THAT" gesture, but it hasn't stopped elitist fans from complaining two decades later, lol.
That being said I like Zilla and Godzilla respectively.
The BEST hair with the BEST reviews!
Am I the only one who actually liked the 1998 film?
Yes.
Chris Stuckmann likes it because it's really campy; I do too but it's still a bad movie
+Decker Shado did you realize the guy was married to his sister because of age of Altron
+Decker Shado are you going to review Godzilla Resurgence.....at least you know until it gets an American DVD release?
Decker Shado *Sigh* Oh well.
8:51 in the novelization, the muto’s emp in interrupt and shut off the charge atomic breath of Godzilla (not when he shoot it, it’s when he charges the atomic breath.)
Because the mutos are parasites to Godzilla’s kind however they could not feed off the atomic breath due to it being in a energy or plasma state opposed to Godzilla can by standing near, inside, or right on top of the radiation area, and sometimes via his spikes, however if it still inside of a kajiu or anything that contains the radiation, the mutos can feed off that.
I can't shake the feeling that someone made a Call of Duty movie and then lost the rights to the brand at the last minute, so they threw together 5 minutes-worth of CGI monsters and called it a Godzilla movie.
You're trying to make bait and piss off some people, but it's not even good bait. It doesn't even make sense.
The funny thing about when I saw the movie in theaters, my company National Broadband Services, had just the month before completely re-wired all 3,000 rooms in Treasure Islands's hotel...I ACTUALLY YELLED OUT, "I JUST FINISHED THAT CASINO!"
This movie was shit.
*****
Good for you.
***** You better see a shrink.
Floofie kun No 1998 is 100 times better than this boring movie.
+Brayant Martinez then son you need to try some mushrooms and watch the first 1954 movie. Powerful message.
Brayant Martinez really ?
I left the theater appalled at what I saw FUCK THIS MOVIES IN ITS RECTAL CAVITY It's awful and I agree why all your points also the monsters suck design somethings more original next time and the Japanese dude was awesome yet they barely used him
Holy Christ you and OP have god awful taste.
YES! YOU NAILED IT! I was struggling why it was fine in the Japanese movies but you got it.
The EMP was evolved to neutralize other kaiju powers, this was proven in an interview
