There is the possibility to have a penny struck on a dime planchet as well, so there is a possibility to have a real silver penny, just really rare, and unlikely to find in circulation ever.
I had a friend who was a collector and he had a penny that was struck on a dime plancet. It had to have been perfectly centered in the dies when struck because it looked great the prettiest penny I've ever saw. It was in uncirculated condition.
There are some silver aftermarket coins some with Liberty Bells or horses embossed. Also in 1976 are some mint error coins of silver color from an unknown metal wrong planchet. Of which one was graded a "details" grade and sold for $1,200 in 2009.
Another possibility for a "gold penny" is if it's a copper plated zinc penny that has been heated up. Watched someone do it by placing it on a coffee maker burner under the coffee pot. They don't always come out evenly converted to a gold color though.
I have a 1980 penny that stands out as it's silver but looks like it had yellow over it....it appears to be a penny planchet ...except it's silver colored...it has no copper look...
Hey bout a 1996 steel penny well it's not steel I think but it ds the silver color if I weight it which number should I b looking for if it's steel or if it's copper inside ???
I'm almost positive I have a steel 1973 d penny the copper is starting to show underneath and the penny ifseob weighs 3.3 grams???? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
How can I send you a Pix of an INCREDIBLE 1956 Silver in color Penny.. front & Back...& ba k has a blind of Cooper color...Have NOT seen another one anywhere
I have a 1974 Philodephia unmarked silver penny. In very good condition. Not magnetic makes me think it's silver. Do you know any history of this penny? Not lightweight and can't weigh it so???
#4:15 In 1944, the US government used (most) all 1943 steel "blanks" in minting 1944 Belgium 2 Francs ("2F") coins for Belgium. Some left over "blanks" were from 1943, however, were minted as US Cents in 1944. #5:15 Some 1974 aluminum Cents were given to both Senators and Congresspersons for "samples" to be returned. Some coins were not!
I have an actual gold penny. A 1926 wheat that has been struck on a gold eagle. Hours and hours of loupe and magnifying time. I need info on where to go or who to talk to
1943's are worth a nice chunk in a higher grade. The D/D is very valuable. If the 43 you showed is legit, I'd have that thing graded. They are going up in value right now. I've found 4 in circulation so far. But they are all in pretty bad shape. But cool to own.
I Just found a 1974 D under base board in my house it looks like it is made out of gold and id really great shape what could it be made out of i cant find anything bout it
i have a U S PENNY In the day light it looks like new shiny gold at ninght it looks like new shiny silver its a 1985 d and it sticks to magent is it real
A realtor had an aluminium penny that he got from his dad a mint worker. It was in the back ( trunk) of his car for years. He was paid $3m for it! The graders called him directly and he had to show up to get it back and then off to the auction!😎🌎💥
I have a 1978 Lincoln cent.wieght 3.2 grams .but it's silver in color...I don't know if someone plated it..or it was high school science experiment. But it sure is cool.and pretty
I believe that they were required to be melted and they ordered a recall. Some people came forward with one and I think the mint tried to prevent the sale or something... all I know is that there are some legal barriers.
1943 is a Steel Penny and worth more than just 1 Cent. They are NOT Silver plated. Also IF a 1944 Steel penny is found it may also be worth THOUSANDS of dollars, seeing as how the Planchette was not changed and a few slipped out of the mint. Copper was needed for ammunition in WW 2 that is why & how the Steel pennies came into play 😉
Good points here! Used the title so that people understand what they have if they watch the vid... when people type in Silver Penny and watch they'll realize it's zinc plated steel or a plated one.

In 1992 there were several Lincoln cents struck on the wrong planchette. It was a brass colored metal. So there are “gold” pennies out there!

I have a 1980 penny that stands out as it's silver but looks like it had yellow over it....it appears to be a penny planchet ...except it's silver colored...it has no copper look...

Really? That's pretty crazy. If you want, you can send it into PCGS or NGC for authentication or bring it to a local coin dealer that you trust.

I got a 1951 penny that sticks to a mag. Is it worth anything. Thanks
That's unusual. Is it plated?
Why would it be illegal? If you found one.
I believe that they were required to be melted and they ordered a recall. Some people came forward with one and I think the mint tried to prevent the sale or something... all I know is that there are some legal barriers.
