I never understand people saying Hakeem got shaq as a baby. This shaq was in shape, played very strong defense. The same post moves that he used in the 2000s look very similar in these finals. And the free throws looked better. Classic matchup.
This was also his highest apg average in a series (6.3). The level of competition at C in this era was the big difference, the Rockets eliminated the MVP in the wcf matchup who played the same position Shaq did.
One on one shaq can easily outpower anyone. Look what happens as soon as shaq gets the ball. They play immediate double team, where as shaq plays hakeem straight up for the most. But Hakeem can step out where as shaq has to take it in. No one man can keep shaq out though.
@@pyeuneu Dream clearly got double teamed a lot too, Shaq was getting in foul trouble when he attempted to defend Dream by himself but that's what made the Rockets so difficult to play against. Not only was Dream commanding attention inside which would leave teammates open he was also a threat further out too, Shaq on the other hand had to be in a certain spot to be effective with the ball.
Look this was more even of a matchup that the mythos would have you believe. Shaq had power and finesse around the basket. Hakern was a 7 footer with guard skills and exceptional defense. Hakeem through experience and calm execution won this
Other than the obvious top 4 guys Cassell was really the only other player that had a big game here. It wasn't even that the Magic weren't playing good defense they actually were in the 2nd half that's why the Rockets were reverting to 1 on 1 halfcourt offense a lot so the Magic wouldn't be able to get back in the game.
A lot of people think Olajuwon dominated Shaq, but as you can see just by the number he didn't. They played even, Hakeem took a lot more shots- over 30 per game and under .500% while shaq was shooting at .600%
@@kcuba1228 I hear you bro, coz he was too big and strong. Hakeem was more skillful no question but shaq's the power and size in combination of quickness, no one even came close to stopping him for 10-12 years. You can see he immediately gets double/tripple teamed everytime he touches the ball and forced for less shots but more assists than usual. Besides hardaway, his teammated failed him particularly in game 1, otherwise age of Shaq Could have started in 1995.
@@pyeuneu Yeah Shaq still got his points, but the Rockets made him work for it they didn't let him overwhelm them inside which prevented the Magic shooters from doing too much damage down the stretch.
Hakeem is playing like this while fasting 12 hrs per day. Simply AMAZING !!!
For the life of me, I will never realise why Shaq went away from this freethrow shooting technique. It actually looks half decent here
Shaq broke his wrist in high school never healed so he tried so many ways to shoot

7:56 was such a beautiful move by The Dream
hakeem best center of all time
Is it just me or shaq really owned hakeem that time
+Sarah Yang I think it's just you.
Considering Dream averaged nearly 33 and the Rockets won 4-0, no.

The Magic defense was trash even with Shaq, Ho, Nick, Bowie and Penny.

I know. Where is this domination they're talking about ????? People seem to enjoy hating Shaq for some reason.

Dream's ability to shoot from midrange was the difference, Shaq liked to stay by the basket and Dream made him go further out to defend.
@@ChrisM07 that's true too. Olajueon had more range. But he along with everyone had hard time keeping Shaq out of the paint.

ridiculous that they called @1:36 but not @1:28
