Robinson and Olajuwon: Two of the most classy players in the NBA. As Rockets fan, I love these highlights; but Robinson was one of the best... and he, like The Dream, is a terrific person.
+jifyum07 Kareem had the single greatest shot ever. His consistency makes him the best center of all time. I don't think he had Olajuwon's skill set. he was a 6'10" guy with guard's feet and footwork. Even these big guys who can handle the ball now (Lamar Odom types), they didn't have the low post moves that Hakeem did.
+DJVijilante the stats speak for themselves, as well as the eye test. there's no apology to be had; no other center had the versatility, agility, creativity and skill sets of hakeem. if he didn't have to carry trash squads up to the mid 90s, he'd probably have been more readily recognized as the best center to ever play, and maybe even the goat.
+Kolby K +Kolby K actually I didn't mean that comment towards Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot but towards jifyum07 as I think Hakeem is the greatest center ever!
Hakeem owned the post, Robinson & San Antonio all @ once. One of the greatest playoff runs in NBA history. Winning the chip without home-court advantage is unreal.
I tell you what...the difference between Olajuwon's jab step and the other centers is that Olajuwon can make the 17 footer at a 60 percent rate...Lord Jesus!
That was a great battle in mid 90s were so many star center right there namely ewing, robinson, Shaq and of course hakeem olajuwon where he had amazing game where he destroy of those 3 superstar in both playoffs and finals
If you watch Shaq over his Career only thing that changed with him was his weight he was still the same Dominant Shaq that got Schooled by Hakeem people say he was young nothing changed about Shaq game he just got Heavier
He averaged at least 60% shooting in both the finals and ecf the following year which were 2 of the highest throughout his postseason career. Some people don't seem to understand that scoring by itself isn't what wins series it's coaching in general, Rudy Tomjanovich and Phil Jackson were the 2 best coaches in the league at the time it's not really all that surprising he lost to them in back to back years. He averaged at least 60% shooting in both the finals and ecf the following year which were 2 of the highest throughout his postseason career. Imagine if Hakem whos 3 inches short than Robinson were the same height as David. He would destroy him even worse. And he would have done better against Shaq also.
He's not 3 inches shorter than Robinson. He's an inch shorter. Don't be like the rest of these pro wrestling and NBA analysts making people bigger and taller to sound more dominant, or making people shorter and smaller to sound more remarkable. Dream is 7' 0". Admiral is 7'1". They've been those heights since they were in college. Kevin Durant is not taller than 6'11" Tim Duncan, or 7'0" Dirk Nowitski. That's that ole repetitive hog wash these ridiculous analysts keep doing. Remember the scene from "Blue Chips".Nick Nolte, "Oh that's just something they do".
Man,just imagine if David Robinson and Olajuwon played against each other in their prime.I wonder what it would look like. Wait, what is this? Olajuwon would destroy Robinson! Now I wonder what would happen if Olajuwon and Shaq played each other in the NBA Finals?
***** Robinson still averaged 25 pts, 11 rbs, and 2 blks with Hakeem guarding him, and Robinson was facing double-teams almost the whole series, unlike Hakeem. Imagine if he wasn't doubled every time he caught the ball in the post? Numbers would've been even better. So I'd say they got the best of each other. Two of the all-time greats battling each other on the biggest stage. Great stuff for basketball purists like myself.

Olajuwon was doubled by San Ann when he would start entering "The Zone" or when in the zenith of the zone, the just would try to hide it by sending help once Olajuwon started his move. And the main and only reason the Rockets would double Robinson was to make someone like Avery Johnson or Dennis Rodman shoot from outside, *NOT* because Olajuwon couldn't guard Robinson. But with that said, it's one thing for sure that we found out about that series. Robinson *couldn't STOP* Olajuwon. Olajuwon stats-35.5ppg 12.5rpg 5.0apg 4.2bpg 1.3spg on 56%FG 50%3p 80%FT...............for the fake "purists" Dream averaged 5.0 assist per game meaning that he was passing out of double teams because this guy that played center for the Spurs couldn't stop him
I wouldn't fall for the dream shake either if I had the Admiral to back me up, I'd just hold my ground and make him shoot over me. If he gets past and you have your arms straight up you won't get called for a foul and the Admiral has a much easier time to block the shot or cause the miss...
I remember this game like it was yesterday, Akeem had a monster game! Spurs bench showed up but the starters choked.. Drob was MVP but Akeem took him to school. Once Tim enter the league, Tim would stick Akeem. He didn't fall for that dream shake..
Come on bro Hakeem was old when Tim came into the league you talking about 1997 Hakeem came into league in 84 plus Tim would have gotten it must Worst than David because he was slower than David !!!
@@mane3864 How many rings did Hakeem have!?? Tim battled in 3 decades late 90s when it was physical, 2000s, 2010s. Best Power Forward of all time. I can't say Hakeem is the best center ever...
@@qwesence1I'm not going to disrespect Duncan but he did have the luxury of playing with four future hall of famers in their primes. A luxury Hakeem never had
San An Coach Was very foolish for making such a Stupid decision to sit D Rod... it didn't hurt Rodman as an individual {Thys is not a regular season game } In such a high stakes game.... He hurt the whole damn Team.
He played his usual minutes in this game he just sat the 1st half of the 1st quarter and late in the 4th when it was a blowout. Ironically the game was closer in the 1st quarter when Rodman sat.
It was the entire team's decision and Popavich supported it. Rockets actually made a lot of their runs when Rodman was playing. Spurs made a lot of their runs when he was sitting.
David Robinson did not get dominated in this series he just lost .what would I have done was put Rodman on hakeem full time and let Robinson shadow and rest on defense and spurs would have won this series
Robinson being the primary defender was the logical decision obviously, if Robinson had trouble with Dream on his own Rodman wouldn't have made that much of a difference overall in the stretches Rodman was on him it was usually with double team help. Rodman was able to handle Shaq but the Rockets were a more difficult matchup because Dream moved around more often compared to Shaq and Horry who Rodman was matched up with most of the series was a shooter.
@@brucewayne1662 He guarded Cs for long stretches in the 2nd half w/the Bulls because they played small w/Kukoc at PF. His overall numbers in the 95 postseason run were slightly above the 96 postseason run, the Rockets were making him play defense on the Bulls he would usually just roam around if he wasn't guarding low post players he wasn't able to do that often this series.
This is so boring...it is so overrated. This single game is soooo demonstrated and escalated. What there was? 58 points and 35 rebs. No. There was not. Overescalated
arguably the best center to ever play.
most complete
I dont see anything to Argue over!
No...he is not!
mj and hakeem the best I've even seen!!!
Louis Mclean I agree
Two best
And Bird.

I still have every game from this series on VHS.

hopefully they re-sign with nbc so we get it back.

Those were great days
How bout the use of Hans Zimmer's Drop Zone score in that intro? Truly awesome
The original beastmode!! Hakeem 'The Dream' Olajuwon!!
Never been a more skilled center in NBA history than Hakeem Olajuwon.
Don't forget Kareem.

Olajuwon schooled Ewing, Robinson and O'Neal over 2 years of playoffs. All Hall of Famers. He was that good.
And Rodman he got dat WORK TOO !!!
The best center of all time.
Pippen said Hakeem is the best center ever.
There's something about Hakeem. Those were the days.
That turn around fade away just unstoppable, One of Olajuwon signature moves
Jordan used hakeems post footwork in his first comeback.
He was my favorite all-time player hakeem The dream olajuwon
From 93-95 Dream was playing outta his mind
Still remember watching this as a kid in the summer time. I've never seen such a dominant performance. Long live The Dream.

I wish I could have been at these games to watch these veterans.
Frankly Hakeem and Michael should've just joined the same team like what the Heats and Warriors did.
6'10 or 6'10 and a half Dominating 7' 1 and 7'2 Hall of Fame Centers
