The way you frame, ground, and humanize the lore and stories even as they interweave is marvelous! We’ll save the best seat by the fire for you, Storyteller.
There is something so cool about Alan Wake, just how deliciously meta it got without it being mocking. Just a bunch of people going "Heck yeah, writing affects reality. Wanna see the darkness tornado we whipped up to stop our hero?"
My personal head canon/theory with the clicker is that its either Alans mothers love or the power of the memory that gives the clicker power, or at least thats how its justified in Zanes narrative. Like how a lot of altered objects gain power from superstion or myth. That fan that can suck the oxygen out of the room can do that because people believe fans are capable of doing it, so in that same way Alan's mothers story about what the clicker can do, and Alan's childish belief that it could do it, are what give it the power.
I love the idea of the "collective unconscious" creating altered items in this universe. It's such a cool concept. Alongside the idea of paranatural criminal groups working to create them with the power of group thought/belief.
So, I just want to add that the director let slip in an interview that Yes, the clicker was given to Alan from his mother who would tell stories to him as a child but the Clicker was supposed to encompass his Father according to the director… so I just realized something. Thats right, the director of the game says the clicker was a gift from his mom to banish the monsters at night , but it itself (the clicker) is the embodiment of Alans father, the director says “ the clicker was given to Alan by his mother when she told him , this clicker is from YOUR FATHER , it will banish the monster away!” Now think, after playing Alan wake 2, or Control AWE DLC, Who looks exactly like Alan Wake but is older then him… like a Father Zane , it’s Thomas! It all makes perfect sense that Alans dad wrote his son into the story or wrote his son i to existence , he writes Return(or was it initiation) WITH HIS SON. Wake was probably his moms last name. And do not forget who gave Alan the light switch in the first game? In a SHOEBOX, it was Zane! i know i sound crazy but I think I randomly figured that out , the director giving that detail is in the IGN Alan wake story so far video at 7minute mark
@@RyukushinI've always strongly felt like Zane was Alans father from the first time i ever played. And it would make sense for Zane to write him in that way. He was a poet, Alan Following in his father's foot steps. A father reaching out across the veil to guide his son. The sins of the father carried by the child.. its so very poetic in nature. It makes so much sense.
@@Ryukushinbut now it turns out its all someone else story and he and thomas had been characters made in attempts to save the original. While the dark presence its just taking more each time. Or both being stuck in cycle of push and pull.

Tiptoe you magnificent being. Thank you for interspersing these stories beautifully, and with much respect (and disdain accordingly) for these characters. You are one of the best storytellers on this platform, and I can't wait for more of your magic!
Such a fan of your writing and delivery. This video really brought the game to life, but made so much make sense for me in a way that watching a playthrough failed to do. Consider me a big fan of this channel now, I've watched the Control vids and Death Stranding, will definitely check out others soon (maybe refresh myself on God of War as I play Ragnarok).
Thanks for your kind words (on this video and the others). We're glad you've been enjoying the content. Just wanted to say that Tip plans to do a lore series on GoW 2018 and Rag after she finishes the Alan Wake 2 vids. She adores them and is currently replaying them on stream. So plenty more binge-worthy videos on the way.
@@Viryl_TVThat's fantastic news. I look forward to all of those (though I may hold off on watching the Ragnarok one until I beat it, depending on timing - I've avoided spoilers for it so far, so I want to experience it as a player before someone explains what I missed). I'm also eager to check out the already produced videos on Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver - it's a series I'd always been curious about, and these other videos have assured me I'm in for a treat.

I did always love the homage to Twin Peaks with Mr. Scratch. I still think David Lynch cribbed this video game and all of it's DLC for "Twin Peaks: The Return". Don't misunderstand me, I love that final season, but there are a TON of parallels between it and the DLC for Alan Wake.
I’m loving these videos! I only just watched the previous video yesterday! So good timing on my part I guess. I’ve always had my interest piqued by control, quantum break, and Alan wake. They’ve always seemed interesting. But your videos regarding control and now Alan wake has finally made full on want to start playing these games.

Thank you for covering one of my favorite games : ).
Glad I found your channel and these Alan Wake / Control videos. I'm crazy about Control but bounced off Alan Wake. This helps me feel like I can still fully participate in the overall story and world they're building to. Thanks. Great videos.

New here, and amazing video series. Curious about the assertions at the end, though, about not being able to create people/situations and the like. How can Alan write about that which he has no knowledge then? How can be create situations that influence the FBC if he doesn't know it exists, or have Zane cause him to write the Clicker/its abilities into existence? Did Agent Nightingale come into existence because of Alan's writing, or did such a person that matched what Alan wrote happen to exist and get roped into the plot? And is there any meaningful difference between those scenarios? I'd love to have AW2 go into the drafting process, too. If Alan wrote multiple drafts the DP rejected and forced him to alter, at what point does any writing/art have an effect on the world? Does the influence then come from the act of writing, or from the artist's decision that the writing is done?
I believe the popular theory is that he has some form of clairvoyance due to his paranatural ability, but he doesn't know that. So in his mind he believes he's coming up with the fictional characters and events, but he's actually seeing glimpses of reality. At least that's how I understood it.
Chiiiiilllllssssss! Also, just IMAGINE if the spot of Alex Casey in this universe had gone to Max Payne instead (as I'm sure was the original intent). Just how amazing that would have been!
Nightingale though... Show me your badge. Oh, you don't have one? Well then, you're under arrest for impersonating a federal agent, on top of all the ridiculous shooting at people.
No! At least, I don't think so. Alan can't create. But he can "nudge" things together. Influence them. The Hiss existed in Slidescape 36 (Polaris and Hedron's homeworld) in a limited form. Hedron/Polaris had suppressed them. But through Wake's writings, they found Trench during a fated expedition. Through Trench, a doorway was opened and the Hiss came to Earth at that specific time. Which led to Jesse Faden entering the scene in 2019. More to come! More will be explained very soon in Control part 2. 😉😉😉
Hmm, but then how could Alan know about the hiss to write about them/influence them? Is there a meaningful difference between creating something from nothing and having the universe pre-arrange anything you might want to write about? This actually reminds me a lot of the expanded content around the _Myst_ / _Riven_ game series. The accompanying novels clarified the linking books couldn't create worlds, but they could link to worlds that matched the writing and already existed out in the infinite variety of worlds in the universe (links to worlds/"Ages" failed if the physics of the universe couldn't support the world as described). It was then difficult to tell if changes/damage/improvements to the writing would happen to the original world visited, or would realign the link to a world with an identical history but where the changes happened to spontaneously occur.
@@TiptoeTheTank love your videos i’ve been binge watching them and i’m so happy you’re covering two of my favorite series. also, Yes! i remember reading a few files in control on the origin of polaris and the hiss but was confused on whether or not they were retconning or changing those orgins with the release of AWE expansion! thanks for clearing that up!

I can't speak for Avalanche Reviews, but we're waiting for the "Alternative Narrative" to release. If rumors are to be believed, it should come out soon with additional story, cutscenes and allegedly a new ending. Who's telling the alternative narrative? Zane? Mr. Door? Alice? Jesse Faden? Barry? No matter who it is it's sure to be important enough to include in the lore videos, and worth waiting a few weeks to include. Tiptoe likes having the full story before she starts her timeline, scripting, voiceover and editing. She does enjoy the Remedy-verse though and is excited to dive in, so AW 2 is definitely coming.
