Looking forward to the rest of the series, but I’m also interested in Sith lightsaber forms if they had any. We hear lots about the 7 Jedi forms but as you pointed out in the video, the forms are as much philosophies as they were martial arts. Sith philosophy is so wildly different that their lightsaber forms must reflect that even if many Sith started as Jedi.
the Jedi and Sith didn't have their own forms, generally they used the same ones Form VII Juyo was a Sith favorite. Now after the old jedi orrder was destroyed and once it was reformed by Luke the form styles changed up a good bit with three main styles known as Strong Style, Medium Style, and Fast Style then of course there were a bunch of unorthodox and hybrid forms and the Sith did come up with some of their own like the Dun Moch technique
If you read the Book of Sith, Darth Bane wrote about three distinct Sith styles, Strong Style (basically his Djem So), Fast Style (which seemed based around using Soresu to tire out an opponent), and Juyo, since that form emphasised a controlled ferocity, ideal for a Sith
They have the same forms and techniques, but different philosophies. A dark side uses of Shii-Cho would submit to the dark side and lean into the aggressive tendencies of the form to dismember rather than disarm.
This is probably my favorite description of Shii Cho. Other videos just talk about its simplicity or paint it as a chaotic, hard to control, and wild style. But, you make it seem peaceful and much like a flow state. This video single handedly made Form 1 my favorite form of the 7. Keep it simple, have faith in the force, and push forward with determination. Love it.
Oh man, this is quite the coincidence, I was just talking to someone earlier today about some of the different Lightsaber Forms to explain why so many Jedi and Sith use Sabers instead of just relying on the Force in combat because different issues require different techniques. Also, Lightsabers are cool weapons so the characters better use them a lot other wise what's the point in having them. Now I'm excited for the rest of this series. :)
Coincidences, coincidences, kwinky-dinks... So, ready for what's coming on a certain school? Still standing aloft and proud despite the weekly whammies? Prepared any anti-anomalous meds and tech in case things go whirligig?
@@michaelandreipalon359 I'm as prepared as I'll ever be. But I can't help but worry about not just the school, but about the Owl House itself since I'm a fan of Power Rangers and the base/home getting destroyed is a classic part/trope of that series, and after spending so much time at both these locations, one of them being the home of our heroes, to see them destroyed and possibly set ablaze will be heartbreaking if it happens.
@@michaelandreipalon359 I hope so. Although, if their home is destroyed they'll have to find a place to crash until the Day of Unity begins. Maybe they could stay with the Bat Queen or do what was done in that fan comic and Amity lets them stay at Blight Manor where they proceed to drive Odalia nuts, that would defiantly help defuse some of the tension that has been on high for the last two episodes.
Lol what a coincidence, just yesterday I thought about doing some Lightsaber Form research, this comes in perfectly! I'm definitely looking forward to the next Episodes! :D
I've always been interested in the different lightsaber forms but not interested enough to go research it myself so thank you for doing this series can't wait for the rest
I'm very excited for the rest of the series. Well done Geetsly! My only complaint is the lack of touching on the Emotional Heat that made specialization in Shii-Cho as dangerous at Juyo at the higher levels and the distinction between Ideal Form I, the Tutorial form, and Live Combat Form I, which I'm glad was the focus here, as it doesnt get as much recognition.
@@geetslys since you are going into the philosophical aspects of the forms, I'd recommend looking into what I think is the unique Makashi version Center of Being in the Clone wars episode "Nightsisters". I don't think anyone has ever covered that before.
The way you describe how Shii-cho works, makes it sound like the way Qui-Gon-Jinn taught Kenobi how to fight with lightsabers (simple fighting style, don't be fancy, don't overextend yourself, etc.) I wonder if Obi-Wan incorporated elements of Shii-cho into his Soresu form, later on, like a hybrid style of some sorts?
Clearly it didn't work since Obi-Wan still went with Ataru until Qui-Gon's death. But he did employ it to some degree but not hybridizing it like you're suggesting it.
With the exception of those preferring Niman, which is essentially a hybrid form from the get-go, few lightsaber duelist, if any, would be sticking strictly to just one form. Any jedi knight worth their salt would have definitely learned more than one form after all, & it's just impractical for one to try to exclude everything else they've picked up, just because those moves ain't a key element of their preferred form.
Definitely looking forward to it - All 7 forms of lightsaber combat. Though form VII may take two videos... And the different styles that were used by the Sith, too. There's a lot of stuff to discover.
I've seen many videos on all the lightsaber forms, but this series has done Form 1 it's true justice and understanding of it's philosophy. I'm *super* excited for the rest of this series, as it's already introducing a amazing start.
I just want to know what every form's main pose is. Like form 2 is holding the blade outward and forward, form 3 is perpendicular to your outstretched arm (Obi Wan's combat pose), form 4 is holding it upright in both hands on your right side, etc.
Thank you for this video. Has anyone here played Jade Empire on the original Xbox? A kung-fu RPG from BioWare, right after they made KOTOR. In Jade Empire, one of the fighting styles you can use is called "White Demon," a slow but powerful style that, according to the in-game lore, seems to have a lot of parallels with the Jedi Shi-Cho style. Deliberate, measured, calculated, etc. No doubt BioWare took some inspiration from the Star Wars universe.
I hear that one of the weaknessss of jarkaii is you can only apply one arm strength. If you're stronger or more skilled than your oppoenent then its a good idea but if not then two arms is highly recommended
So the lightsaber forms are more like Katas combined with Tai Chi? A form of choreography meant for establishing muscle movement memorization, to develop and train a type of mental state, and to strengthen one's spirit.
All the forms would have Katas, with single person sets called Dulons, and paired forms called Velocities and would have Internal aspects, similar to TaiJi and other NeiJia arts, as shown in the Jedi flow excercise.
This kinda reminds me of the series done by Jensaraai1, but more simplified and less lore drowning as he often does (not that it's a bad thing the way he does it).

Y'know I've got to ask scince we're talking about Lightsaber forms here, what would your style/form be? I myself would use a combination of form 3's stonch defense and form 2's masterful footwoork and redirection while using the force incorporation of form 6 (more so on the mental side such as casting illusions to throw an opponent of guard.) To confuse my opponent and either wait for or create an opening before using the blinding speed of form 4 and the precise attacks of form 2 in order to end a duel quickly.
I have a weird question: what would happen if you were on a spacewalk , strapped to the ship and the ship enters hyperspace?, or if the door was opened would you still be sucked out?
If you take a way the stage fencing aspects, a bit better than one might thing. -Shii-Cho lines up pretty well methods that someone with a longsword or larger swords would used to fight multiple opponents. - Makashi is similar to Victorian saber and Renaissance rapier. - Soresu is similar to tai chi dao. - Ataru is similar to French cane and savate. - Djem So is similar to German longsword while Shien is similar to Italian longsword. - Niman is similar to Eskrima. - Joyo/Vapaad really doesn't have a parallel.
I see I would want to be a species that can live for a very long time but at least isn't the size of Yoda and that is somewhat kind of strong enforce but not like overpowered but due to my extreme lifespan I would focus myself on my swordsmanship and try the master if not master all seven forms of lightsaber combat therefore I would have flaws of course like I would put others before myself and try to protect my fellow Jedi and one day my clone troopers from harm but I just think it'd be awesome to be a master of all 7 forms and I wouldn't even want to be on the high council like I'd rather just be a sentinel like even if the high council actually personally asked me to join them I would deny them.

Kit Fisto's lightsaber form may be elegant, but those tentacle dreadlocks of his are something else tho.
And that constant smile of his is a blessing.
They didn't call Kit Fisto a living martial hurricane for nothing.
The most impressive thing about his fighting is that he avoids any of them getting cut off by himself or an opponent
