It always surprises me how often I meet a man who has none of this stuff at all. Woman carry a purse and by far are more prepared with things off this list then most men. A person without a knife, flashlight, pen, keys, cell, multitool is next to worthless. Great video, you have come a long way from where you started with you channel, mad props.
Very smart picks PM-101. I do use the SONY Experia Z1 as my primary phone. I took it just because it's waterproof. Some people complain that got water in it, but I just take care opening an closing the covers and I'm fine for almost a year now, including underwater pics. It has an expectacular battery life, more than 2 days and nights using phone and data regularly. As flashlight I use the Fenix HL-10 without the head gear, super lightweight and shoot a 70 lumens beam. I put the flashlight and a Bic Mini (with some turns of Silver Tape over it) in the two side pockets of the Leatherman Wave sheath and in the internal pocket the Wave and a bunch of Band-Aids, Chlorine tablets, mini sewing kit and a lockpick kit. Edited to add a Victorinox Wallet (very sturdy) and as I'm 45 years old I have a Varilux Transitions glasses.
"these are things that are so simple that most people wouldn't even include them on a list, but some people don't have them, but dang it if I don't use them every day!" Ha! That's what we've been trying to say! Outstanding video, Chris. You've got a pragmatic and practical EDC setup. That multitool holster is genius.
One of the most useful items I carry and have at all times since I was 12 is a p38 can opener. You can use it for opening boxes, self defense,as a can opener, and who knows how many other uses.
I carry the leatherman wave myself. I found that the fobus universal 9mm/.40 maw holster holds the wave perfectly. I wear it over my back left pocket between the thrid and forth belt loops. I'm going to upgrade to the light/mag combo holster to make it easier to carry my surfire 6p. Just thought that may be some FYI for you and your viewers as another edc option
In addition to your list, I always carry a water bottle. (Yes, with water in it, not just the bottle, LOL.) Saves me from having to buy water when I'm out for longer than I'd anticipated. And a bandana for a nose rag but bandanas have a gazillion uses. And a travel bottle of hand sanitizer, cuz you never know when your hands are gonna get ucky.
After nearly 40 years of camping/survival and/or hiking around the world I laughed at your items top 5 were what I thought of before you said them...different companies agreed but never the less the same items in order then damn I got the last 5 extra ones in the same order too so that must mean we're doing something very similar or are of that practical mind set or way of thinking. Like the survival ninja zombie crew say " what if" Screw what if!!! Any issue or strife you find yourself in every day is 999% more likely to be solved with standard and effective kit rather than some gizmo bit of hi tech crap that a company has designed to jump on the SURVIVAL band wagon. Great video 🤘
I'm in a wheelchair and one thing I always have is gloves, they keep my hands clean and if the weather is bad they are good to have for gripping my tires if they get wet.
Before I leave my house I always do a quick mental checklist. Ive worked hard on getting my edc down as minimalistic as possible while still having some basic tools on my person for everyday little tasks: 1.keys- (Mcgizmo #5 clip, Titanium keyring, keys, mini titanium pry/flathead,SOG Micron 1 (AWESOME little knife! And I generally don't care for SOG stuff) 2.wallet- Swiss Tech from Target with a micro sewing kit and a fresh razor blade tucked in behind my license. I also run a small straight pin into the top stitch and tuck a large sewing needle in with my cards. Its surprisingly used a lot for poking stuff, or removing dirt or lint from my phone ports! 3.phone- Iphone in a MAGPUL case. 4.vape- This spot used to be for my smokes, but now its my EDC Vape rig- AR Mod with a tobh atty. 5.Knife- Can be any number of quality cutter. I like medium to small folders unless I'm gonna be outside and then I might grab a small fixed blade or a necker. If I'm going out to be in the woods my EDC is greatly expanded by a GO bag thats got a whole lot more and I bring my own JESSICA knife (Currently a modified TOPS TB tracker Scout but that may be retired soon for an Esee 3 or 4 for the awesome ESEE warrenty) 6. Flashlight- This ones kinda optional depending on what I'm doing because my phone also has a light but my favorite edc light is the stream light microstream 7. Watch~ This ones also optional and I only wear a watch occasionally but its usually my black Seiko 5 Automatic on a black nato strap. *8. This is a BONUS as I don't currently own any guns small enough to carry around everyday, but if I did get my CC license to EDC a gun it would be something very small and light like a Glock 27. I know this sounds like a lot but I can do the whole checklist in about 3 seconds touching every item to confirm its location. Everything has a specific place on my body. Keys,Wallet,Phone,Vape,Knife,Light anything else is excessive for my Urban EDC. So, What specifically do you carry every single day? Also if I may ask, Where are you from?
Finally a sane video on EDC items. I've seen only about 3 other videos where the presenter was clear that this was about what they actually carry day-to-day. Most folks on here would be surprised at my EDc which mainly consists of a pocket knife, Leatherman Squirt PS4, lip balm and a pair of nail clippers. I' am however thinking of starting to carry a lighter of some sort for jsut the reasons you describe, however it'll probably be a Bic mini. So many vids show these guys with a Maxpedition pouch stuffed to the gills with every sort of "What if?" item you can imagine and in some cases redundant ones at that. I honestly don't understand the "What if?" mentality when it comes to EDC. EDC should be the things you use (as you say) EVERY DAY, not just in the event of disaster. I don't carry a bigger leatherman simply because if I need a screwdriver or saw or pliers, I'll go get the full size tool I need. A larger Leatherman is fine for those who want to carry it, I just prefer the smaller one as it fits easily in my pocket. Thanks for the vid and keep it up!
honestly im so glad you put the smartphone on the list. it is the only universal EDC item in modern life. literally everyone would benefit every day by having a phone with them. im an urban dwelling chap, i dont really need to carry a knife with me (and from the word "chap" you can summise im in the UK sot he knife laws are restrictive anyway) but everyone talks about a knife. honestly im never going to be in a survival situation, if i am im basically already f***ed because my life doesnt really take me out of the city, but i like to be prepared for practical everyday tasks. so i dont really need a lot of the standard EDC stuff. people talk about carrying fishing gear with me, being able to start fires, a compass, and that type of wilderness stuff but ive never ever even come close to needing those when i didnt plan to use them, so for me they are dead weight in day to day life. the multi tool is invaluable. well wort spending a little cash and weight on a good one. having a little non-lock blade (im in the uk so thats all im allowed remember ;) ), a couple of screwdriver bits that fold out, and a decent pair of scissors make it worth having daily but ive had use of Wirecutters and a little tiny saw while out and about before. well worth the EDC now... like so many people ive not really paid attention to my Wallet but you made a really good point. its never out of me reach while im awake, but ive not been respecting them and i'm inspired to look at it (i write this around Xmas, so who knows? its an east gift. i may even get my father a really good one.) the light is one i tend to grab in preparation for use, but mostly because my Phone light will see me alright in most circumstances. ive always found them to be a bit cumbersome to just have at all times. i think there is an arguement for EDC for Peace of mind, and i do have one Piece of mind actual kit that i think literally everyone should put some thought and effort into, and thats a medic kit. and it doesnt need to be massive, but ive hurt myself while out and about and i know the worst thing is to be in a situation where either you get hurt and you have no tools that actually help, or been in a situation where you find someone hurt and have nothing that you can do. and im not talking booboos here. ive been out and about and broken my arm without a sling on my person and it sucks. ive found someone bleeding and had to take off layers in the rain to stop their bleeding and let me tell you, it worked but it sucked. so a roll of bandages, a sling and some Gauze weigh very little and are worth EDCing for my peace of mind. thanks for reading, have a great day. its always the plan, isnt it?
Hey Chris, enjoyed the video. Maybe I've missed it along the way, but one very important thing I've not heard about is your brain, your mindset. I think that is far more important than any tool you can carry.
Lot of good items, especially is a surge case I am really digging that. I've been thinking along the same lines myself we go so Stone Age a lot of times with worst case scenarios that we forget the everyday things that'll get you out of jams on a consistent basis. Love the video and love the what if Ninja statements 2!
Nice video! One thing I always have on me is a Victorinox Rambler on my keychain. It is small enough to forget it is there but it is always available when I need it. For such a tiny keychain size it packs a lot of functionality. Knife, scissors, small screwdrivers (slotted and Phillips), bottle opener, nail file, tweezers, toothpick. I tell everyone to throw one on their keychain.
I use my smart phone, instead of a pen and paper. But I do have a pen and paper in my bag that stays in the trunk of my car, and I understand you totally with the what if’s. The what if almost gave me a nervous break down doing it to myself
My mini pry tool (Leatherman Brewster) has saved a lot of tools. For all those times you really don't need a knife. Still love my original wave. But carry the original SOG most of the time. Great Video.
Two things I also always carry is extra cash and credit card someplace besides my wallet and a usb drive. Thanks for the Good list it's good to remind us every now and again what we should be carrying every day because it's easy to get complacent and leave things at home. In my case since I do Carry a gun everyday the wave has replace my extra knife and larger Multi tool. However what I don't carry goes into my edc bag instead of a drawer at home and that bag is never father than my car.
Better off with a #2 wooden pencil with a metal tube sheath, tube can be used for blowing air on a fire start. tube supports the pencil so it does not break, pencil lasts forever and won't freeze up, can sharpen it with your knife. pencil can be used for tender in emergency. pencils are painted so should not have to worry to much about it getting wet. Tube could be honed to be a emergency whistle.... just a thought.
I've backpacked and camped since I was 10 and presently 71. I have never faced any issue where a firearm was an absolute must carry on thousands of outings, long treks, extended camps, etc. However, I carried firearms to practice sessions and camps. On five continents while serving in the military and as a civilian just traveling I've never felt any sense of endangerment. I strongly believe if you use common sense, good judgment and develop, practice, hone whatever skills your body can achieve you develop a confidence that predators, mainly human ones, can see and sense.
I was just thinking about my glasses and that a back-up pair is very handy. I was thinking what about shaded glasses, like a double use sun-glasses/actual glasses and in the same second you said "sun-glasses"... You're inspiring! Keep it up!
A second pair of glasses is a good thing to keep at home (it's way overkill for EDC), but sunglasses are excellent EDC even if you don't have visual disorders.
Nice video. I EDC a cryo, a small streamlight, a regular bic lighter, and a folded up bandanna. Not a big fan of bulky items and these seem to keep it low profile. I can't tell you how many times a day I use the flashlight. Of course the knife and lighter are also used at least once a day. The bandanna isn't used daily, but is sure nice to have whenever you need it. Especially if you are prone to a bloody nose in the dry winter air (like me and my 4 year old are). Of course I have a smart phone as well. I am digging that spec ops wallet. Think I'll have to order one.
Pretty much nailed it. I have an EDC bag so the wallet option is not one I would choose, phone is pretty much meh. I have had the same leather wallet for 16 years. The bag is a SO Tech Go bag when they first came out. fantastic bag. Electronics pouch, Boo boo pouch and a tool pouch. then on the side pouches misc stuff like tissues, ferro rod, write in the rain pad, pens, ziplock baggies(for water parks or being around large bodies of water), etc etc. Its a great slim back that fits any where.
Thanks Chris. I've been putting off getting an EDC back-up power supply for far too long. Would be nice if they charged like that Olight does. I must agree that testicular navigation would not be my first choice either. Good list, keep up the great work!
Great video Chris, I agree on pretty much everything you listed. As someone who lives in AZ, for me sunglasses are a must, I go nowhere without my polirized Oakleys, imo best sunglasses I ever tried and they actually lasted for a long time. I use a small Leatherman, don't like carrying the big one but its therd everyday. And I cant see myself without a knife. I use my knife so much, either to cut, scrape, light prying or just plain flipping it to pass time. Not a fixed blade for edc guy but my Hoback kwaiback or Shiro hati are with me 24/7 and so is my spyderco manix 2 s110v lightweight, its my everyday carry knife, others get switched around but its always there (well ever since it replaced my xhp para2). I do need to get a new flashlight, need to go through your videos and find one for me.
I would suggest replacing your e-cigarette with one that can also be used as a battery-pack to charge your phone. There are quite a few available now, such as the Sigelei Tmax and the Zmax V5. The IdealVape E-LVT is worth a look, as it's waterproof, has an integrated rugged case and has a flashlight, as well as being able to charge your phone.
I carry all of the top five and most of the next five. But I'll never understand when people say that the surge is too heavy to carry compared to the wave. It's only like four ounces more. Good list
Agree 100% with the list but I have yet to find a way to reconcile the extra weight. I currently carry a good pen, notepad, pocket knife, smart phone and wallet. My multi tool (I think I have a wave) adds alot to that so I mainly keep that and my flashlight in my backpack which I carry places but not on me all the time because of the extra weight it adds. Great video and it made me think that's for sure.
Everyday, when Im not at work, I wear my hat with LED lights. I Fricken love it! My girlfriend got for me as a gift and is by far the best. I have shade, and some coverage for my eyes, and it also a green light function along with two white light functions. Its bright, it was under $20, and it always comes in handy. The batteries also last for a long time depending on what mode the lights are in. Also carry a cheap little multi tool that I use a lot, but I keep the big one with my knife.
Have one of those Spec-Ops T.H.E. wallets. Really like and prefer the closure fastener. No Velcro to rip out. Never thought about putting some emergency items inside though. The fire starting wicks, band-aids and whatever. Also, thanks for putting the "what iffers" in their place. Although, I have lots of ready made sarcastic remarks for the zombie apocalypse what-iffers.
Great vid as always! By the way my Olight S10 Baton has a safe mode to prevent it from powering on accidentally. I wouldn't be surprised if your Olight has the same feature. To enter the safe mode: turn the flashlight off and press and hold the power button for several seconds. The light will enter firefly mode and then power off. Release the power button and try to turn it on. It should remain off. To bypass the safe mode simply hold the power button until it powers on. Hopefully that works for ya! :)
This was a very interesting and provocative video, Chris. I agree with all 10 of your items as I pretty much carry these items albeit different brands or models. The one item that I really liked was your wallet...definitely a valuable EDC essential. As you aptly pointed out it is a conveyance for small essential items and one that I use daily several times a day, too, Dental flossers. My wife and I eat out often as we are both retired. Toothpicks often don't work well enough. One of my "credit cards" converts to a very sharp knife with a handle, I have a flat 8X magnification card for reading maps and starting fires. A card sized Ziploc contains magnesium dust. I often wear my wallet around my neck in urban areas for obvious reasons...difficult to pickpocket my wallet and there's less chance of losing it when it's needed at a store, wherever. My wallet is on an ample length of 550 and can easily be withdrawn from beneath my shirt or jacket. Anyway, I noticed your wallet has two grommets that can be useful for my needs. The "what iffers" can go and on. My thought is whatever floats your boat then do it. Don't criticize others who think differently than you do. We're all human with various level mentalities and IQ's.
I'm a firefighter-EMT and I couldn't agree more about every item on this list. I went through the fire academy with these on me or in my backpack. Don't even get me started in my turnout pockets or even my car!
Great video. I would add a Bandanna. there are 101 uses for them including: wiping sweat, minor first aid if you cut yourself at work (yes, I know there are other major first aid applications), napkin, quick polish your shoes if they get scuffed, use to signal if your car is disabled on the side of the road. Hell, I used mine once to make a doll for my daughter who at the time was 2 and particularly fussy one day while we were out. I’m just talking about every day uses on the job or out & about on your daily routine. What wallet is that?
I would have switched #1 (multitool) and #2 (flashlight), but it's minor. Won't agree with the iPhone, but that's personal choice. Samsung is a good choice. The wallet is not a bad choice, but modern car keys are those big electronic goofs. You could get a key that will allow you to open the car, but not start it. Lighter, good idea. Excellent video!
I roll with pretty much everything on that list, only thing I have to add is a hankerchief. I have one folded in my back pocket at all times, millions of uses.
LOL, I thought I was the only one. Your list of 5 (+ 5 more) is almost to the T the same as my EDC. Brands not withstanding but the items are almost spot on. Not that I needed it but thanx for the validation LOL.
The list was perfect. I carry that exact 1st five items everyday! Also, some leather man cases have a loop for carrying a pen. But I carry a small Ferrorod instead.
Great video! I agree 100% on the types of items on the lists, even though I have different nuances of items to fulfill those roles. I like that the multi-tool was #1. I carry the original Leatherman PST, and it's been the most useful tool I've ever owned.
i pretty much carried all that stuff until i started carrying a gun. i still carry all the stuff mentioned here but had to scale back the size of the items because of weight. replaced my wave with a juice, my contego with a paramilitary 2 or other weight like options. still rock my little microstream though. i also have a pretty bare bones wallet now. great vid chris!
thanks. i havent had issues with the juice though ive read where some people do. i flip flop back and forth between the juice and gerber dime. both are small and at least can do small tasks. as far as the extra mag...i carry one when i can meaning sometimes my clothes dont support a bunch of gear. mostly in the winter i do carry a spare. summertime is hit and miss. but 99.9% of the time i walk out the door i do have my gun regardless. usually 8 plus 1. in my mind if i really need more bullets or a spare mag i should probably run away. :) i know there are the what ifs....
About the only thing I would add is a cotton bandana. It has so many uses it's almost stupid not to carry one. The only thing I don't EDC off your list is a jailor key ring.
I have most of those items that you mentioned. I bought my Leatherman Wave about twenty years ago when they first came out and about the same time I bought a lighter from REI called Weather Proof. It has a feature for pressure equalization when ascending a mountain. It's main purpose is to light butane stoves while in the snow! Now what I don't have, but want to get is that cool smock hoodie and fingerless knit gloves that you're wearing! Where can I get those?
That kydex sheath you have for your leatherman is exactly what I've been looking for for quite some time now! I need one just like that for my Wave!!! Who did you get to make it?
If you are going to carry that big a ring for your keys you might just want to get a climbing D ring. Then use smaller rings for each set of keys (house, 1st car, 2nd car, work, etc.) and that makes for easy on and off as you need them.
Score! I got 4 out of the 5 tools you consider essential: a cheap Zippo knockoff filled with kerosene and a yarn wick (ghetto as heck but it works a lot better than official wicks and naphta because it hardly evaporates) that has served me well for FIVE YEARS with no hints at all of giving up the ghost, a Samsung Galaxy SIII with great signal reception, quick GPS access and the burliest battery I've ever seen on a smartphone, a Thrunite TN12 with a 3400mAh battery on my belt holster (it may or may not be replaced by an Olight S10R Baton for EDC, it's likely I'll just carry both), and a solid leather wallet with no particular brand full of plastic and zip-up pockets and cuts for all kinds of cards. What I'm missing is the multitool, although I do have a Schrade Nitro SQ312 pocket knife to kinda sorta make up for it. The Anker portable mini-charger, the Leatherman Surge multitool and the jailer keyring have piqued my interest. If I have leftover cash come February, I'll get a Surge for myself, with the others to follow.
Oh, I got the sunglasses too. For me they're even better because I have moderate-severity myopia, so if I misplace my regular glasses (it happens more often than a bare-eyes might imagine) I can just pull the sunglasses out as a temporary way to see things with a degree of focus. Another great video. And I love the not so subtle sarcasm! You, like myself, seem to think of sarcasm not only as a second language, but also as an art form! Keep up the good work...
Appreciate you taking the time to make the video, and all the others. I think people should think about that before making such negative remarks. Great video and love the jacket/shirt you got there, looks great and warm.
PREPAREDMIND101 Great list! Agree with almost everything. Had that same wallet for years, only bought another for a different color. Sweet wallet. Have you done a video on that jacket? What is it?
I'm from the UK where guns ain't a option and I love in the city but it's good to see the usa edc is very similar to ours I carry a mini multi tool on my key ring and a Anglo arms tanto fixed blade knife with inside waist sheath as laws on knives only allow non lock knife under 3 inches and I carry a cheap but reliable 250lm flash light plus phone good video keep up the good work bro
I edc what my life experiences have taught me to carry. In my many years I can't ever recall needing to carry a multitool from morning to night. I own a LM Wave and a Gerber MP600. One sits in my car unused, the other resides in a drawer somewhere. For me, a SAK Tinker covers all the useful tools I would ever use on, say, my LM Wave, and a Tinker weighs nothing compared to a full size MT. Flashlight edc? I have never been in a must have situation where I couldn't go get the one in the kitchen drawer. I do keep one in the car and I admit I use the little Nano Light on my key chain periodically, probably all the flashlight most people would ever need as an edc. Smart phone? Nope. Neither my wife or I find that expense necessary. I carry a Maxpedition wallet that I stick in a small Maxpedition micro organizer, but that suits me, maybe not everyone. I guess my point is, your viewers will ultimately figure out what to edc based on THEIR day to day experience, which may include all or none of your suggestions. I do enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
Another great video sir, Could you provide a link to where I could get one of those sheets for the Leatherman. also what kind of cordage are you using to hold your Vape pen and your neck knife and are using a breakaway on that?
Once again Chris has shown his super power ... common sense. I have a Gerber multitool... and it beats having nothing. I am getting a tactical belt with load bearing suspenders for heavier equipment like my f10 survival knife and etc etc so my pants don't fall down, and using my regular leather belt belt on my pants for lighter items, and back pack, to hang things on or put larger things in. I think even a small tent, sleeping bag, tarp, rain poncho, binocolars, and a collapsable fishing rod take up a lot of room. Weight matters. I have so many survival items it is getting to be too much. I have to think about items that are a must have and can carry. If I used a vehicle I could take more things, but I am thinking must have equipment on foot. Multi tools are must haves as they cut down on weight, as long as they are not cheap and are sturdy thats great.. even if they might burn more calories using some of them being smaller maybe being lighter should help with calorieloss and maybe even out. I enjoy your videos and reviews, and you have added to my mental survival toolbox, as well as helped me pick and buy survival items on a budget.. For a flashlight I use The Edge because of its defensive bezel and strobe and just needs a single AA that is easy to find..even in a disaster you could find one in a remote control.. for a reg size flachlight I have one that doubles as a stun gun (review this please, from amazon) that might help with cougarsand bears .. then I bought a 2 pack of headlamps. I bought an AM, FM, weather band little radio that works on batteries, hand crank or solar power. Not sure about this yet. I also have a mexican poncho that I can wear under my rain poncho for an icy cold rain or cold night camping.Of course I also have an emergency heat reflective blanket, but doesnt look very warm lol. Then there is first aid stuff, mini fishing and sewing kits, plusextra clothing, personal items, mess kit, water, firestarters, folding knife fork spoon.. It never ends.If I could, I would also carry some basic hand tools. And I have even morethings I will need. Carrying all this stuff will be a pain. lol. I likethe wallet, but I wear a chain on mine. zippers are cool though. And some of those credit card tools might be good too. And a mini bic should fit in a zipped up pocket too. Aside from my shrade f10 spearpoint, I have a mora 510, 2 bear claw kneck knives, and pocket knives.. swiss, buck etc. I use a little notepocket pad and pen, but a pencil is great because you can sharpen it with a knife.
Hi Chris love the videos lots of good information. check out the body jigsaw blades they fit the surge perfect gives the option of carrying a hacksaw blade
close to what I have in my edc tin: 1. pencil + sticky notes (for giving people information i want them to remember) 2. maglite solitaire led (because AAA) 3. leatherman squirt (it's a tin, after all, don't expect a surge) 4. 8gb flash drive (when you don't need it, you don't need it. when you do, there is no substitute) 5. bic mini lighter (i don't smoke, but still useful to have) 6. lens cloth (phone, sunglasses) 7. band aids (cuts and stuff) no cordage, no ferro rods, no shit. When is the last time you needed your emergency fishing kit? On top of that, I usually have 2 or 3 knives (pocket, neck, and maybe a fixed blade primary, depends on the when, where, and what), my wallet, keys, and phone.
I EDC my leatherman Kick in a Blackhawk, 1911 45 ACP magazine carrier. the wingman goes in also but it is tight. If I was going to carry a bigger multi tool I'd use a double stack 9mm mag carrier they work great with no custom kydex work.
I would really like the surge kydex sheath demonstrated in this video but in the vertical position. I tried contacting survival tactics with no success. do you sell these in your store. please advise. Thanks.
Thank you. The what if game drives me insane. Real life only needs the basics. The only other thing i would have added to the list is a watch. I know at my work i don't like to take my phone out, but its nice to know what time it is.
I used to carry a 4sevens mini 123 as my light on my key chain. But when I upgraded to a smartphone and got the flashlight app, I find I just didn't seem to need the redundancy of a light and a phone light in EDC. I have lights if I know I'm going to need them, but for edc and what I'm doing. Just don't need a dedicated light.
Happy to see you didn't include a pistol. Here in Canada we can't anyway. So when I'm watching videos where the guy is telling he needs 3 pistols in his basic EDC kit, I'm a little bit skeptical.
Nice vid and a great list. I would recommend a smaller more compact wallet. I prefer a smaller front pocket wallet myself. That one looks to be too large for front pocket carry and would probably hurt my back/backside if it was kept in a rear pocket. I would also recommend against the larger keyring pretty much for the same reasons. You want to keep adding things to it and it just gets to be too much crap. Perhaps if they were carried in a jacket pocket or a bag but for general edc I try to go with a minimalist approach. Keep the awesome videos coming!
That makes two of us. you could always just click on the "powered by Amazon" icon on my store which will take you to the main Amazon, but I still get credit since you came through my door.
FINALLY a real and practical video on EDC's. Thank you for making this video and grounding everyone on this topic.
Very smart picks PM-101. I do use the SONY Experia Z1 as my primary phone. I took it just because it's waterproof. Some people complain that got water in it, but I just take care opening an closing the covers and I'm fine for almost a year now, including underwater pics.
"these are things that are so simple that most people wouldn't even include them on a list, but some people don't have them, but dang it if I don't use them every day!"
Ha!
And a travel bottle of hand sanitizer, cuz you never know when your hands are gonna get ucky.
yeah, I have a small wet wipe pack with me always. good thing to have when another pigeon craps on you. or you get your hand in something undefinable.
I didn't add that because I would be carrying that actually ON my body...it would be in a bag.
I like going back to your old videos like this one because I always come away with good ideas to make my life better.
Ive worked hard on getting my edc down as minimalistic as possible while still having some basic tools on my person for everyday little tasks:
1.keys- (Mcgizmo #5 clip, Titanium keyring, keys, mini titanium pry/flathead,SOG Micron 1 (AWESOME little knife! And I generally don't care for SOG stuff)
2.wallet- Swiss Tech from Target with a micro sewing kit and a fresh razor blade tucked in behind my license.
If I'm going out to be in the woods my EDC is greatly expanded by a GO bag thats got a whole lot more and I bring my own JESSICA knife (Currently a modified TOPS TB tracker Scout but that may be retired soon for an Esee 3 or 4 for the awesome ESEE warrenty)
6. Flashlight- This ones kinda optional depending on what I'm doing because my phone also has a light but my favorite edc light is the stream light microstream
Your comment - "tactical man purse " made me laugh . Now I know what to call mine . I thank you and my wife thanks you .
Lefty
that's. what I call mine
Thanks for the vid and keep it up!
honestly im so glad you put the smartphone on the list. it is the only universal EDC item in modern life. literally everyone would benefit every day by having a phone with them.
im an urban dwelling chap, i dont really need to carry a knife with me (and from the word "chap" you can summise im in the UK sot he knife laws are restrictive anyway) but everyone talks about a knife.
honestly im never going to be in a survival situation, if i am im basically already f***ed because my life doesnt really take me out of the city, but i like to be prepared for practical everyday tasks.
so i dont really need a lot of the standard EDC stuff. people talk about carrying fishing gear with me, being able to start fires, a compass, and that type of wilderness stuff but ive never ever even come close to needing those when i didnt plan to use them, so for me they are dead weight in day to day life.
the multi tool is invaluable. well wort spending a little cash and weight on a good one. having a little non-lock blade (im in the uk so thats all im allowed remember ;) ), a couple of screwdriver bits that fold out, and a decent pair of scissors make it worth having daily but ive had use of Wirecutters and a little tiny saw while out and about before. well worth the EDC
now... like so many people ive not really paid attention to my Wallet but you made a really good point. its never out of me reach while im awake, but ive not been respecting them and i'm inspired to look at it (i write this around Xmas, so who knows? its an east gift. i may even get my father a really good one.)
the light is one i tend to grab in preparation for use, but mostly because my Phone light will see me alright in most circumstances. ive always found them to be a bit cumbersome to just have at all times.
i think there is an arguement for EDC for Peace of mind, and i do have one Piece of mind actual kit that i think literally everyone should put some thought and effort into, and thats a medic kit. and it doesnt need to be massive, but ive hurt myself while out and about and i know the worst thing is to be in a situation where either you get hurt and you have no tools that actually help, or been in a situation where you find someone hurt and have nothing that you can do.
and im not talking booboos here. ive been out and about and broken my arm without a sling on my person and it sucks. ive found someone bleeding and had to take off layers in the rain to stop their bleeding and let me tell you, it worked but it sucked. so a roll of bandages, a sling and some Gauze weigh very little and are worth EDCing for my peace of mind.
thanks for reading, have a great day.
its always the plan, isnt it?
Hey Chris, enjoyed the video. Maybe I've missed it along the way, but one very important thing I've not heard about is your brain, your mindset. I think that is far more important than any tool you can carry.
Thank you for not including a useless cliche inadequate "survival fishing kit" in this list. Faith in PM101 - maintained.
Well done, best of this type I've ever seen and I've seen way more than a few. Thanks.
You're right! I wasn't thinking of a second pair for EDC, I was thinking about what I would put into my "EDC-Backpack" or my car
JayFolipurba I keep spare glasses and a weeks worth of contacts in my SAP bag.
Great video! I bought the same ESEE knife from Steve a couple months ago now and it's been my EDC ever since.
Thanks Chris. I've been putting off getting an EDC back-up power supply for far too long. Would be nice if they charged like that Olight does. I must agree that testicular navigation would not be my first choice either. Good list, keep up the great work!
I carry the same multitool only with the black oxide finish. LOVE this tool !
One of your best videos ever, seriously.
#11: a bandana, good for wiping your face, covering your neck when it's cold, can be used as a band aid, tourniquet and the like
Great video Chris, I agree on pretty much everything you listed. I do need to get a new flashlight, need to go through your videos and find one for me.
the one in the video you just watched is an awesome edc light!
Great list and for all the right reasons. Thanks for sharing
SOG multi tool, Carter Prime folder, I phone, Fenix PD 22, flashlight, Bic lighter, Safety quality sunglasses and a good bandana
It does. Turning the pocket clip is easier.
Chris another awesome video . Great stuff. Only thing you missed was having a P38 can opener on your keys .
I don't always agree with you on everything but I can't argue with anything you said here. Good choices.
I'm a firefighter-EMT and I couldn't agree more about every item on this list. I went through the fire academy with these on me or in my backpack. Don't even get me started in my turnout pockets or even my car!
Great video. Great sense of humour and down to earth stuff.
Happy Holidays, Thks for your honest reviews this past year.
Great list, great video as always. Thanks for sharing.
Good to be able to reach ones tool in any position.
Some really good ideas and it just happens to be most of the stuff that I have on me daily.
Very instructive, a good guide, sensible choice thank you.
Gotta ask you, did you have problems with the scissors on your Juice?
Less importantly, do you carry an extra magazine or more?
thanks. i havent had issues with the juice though ive read where some people do. i flip flop back and forth between the juice and gerber dime. both are small and at least can do small tasks.
as far as the extra mag...i carry one when i can meaning sometimes my clothes dont support a bunch of gear. mostly in the winter i do carry a spare. summertime is hit and miss. but 99.9% of the time i walk out the door i do have my gun regardless. usually 8 plus 1. in my mind if i really need more bullets or a spare mag i should probably run away. :) i know there are the what ifs....
I have the same Spec ops wallet and I agree that it is great. Glad I found it.
Great video, Great Comments....Really like the Kydex for the Surge
About the only thing I would add is a cotton bandana. It has so many uses it's almost stupid not to carry one. The only thing I don't EDC off your list is a jailor key ring.
I love your videos, and this one has really good information

Ya the surge! So many people under rate it. Sick video!!
Might add a good watch. I think it's good to have EDC and analog. Old fashion windups are my favorites. Just saying
I use a little notepocket pad and pen, but a pencil is great because you can sharpen it with a knife.
when it comes to edc I will say that you nail it!
Great video. I love the surge. I never minded the weight.
Check out "RAVPOWER", they have some really amazing external batteries, and all of them have flashlights built in
Hi Chris love the videos lots of good information. check out the body jigsaw blades they fit the surge perfect gives the option of carrying a hacksaw blade
Nice presentation Chris. Ever considered a small thread/needle
Kit?
That would be a bag thing, like a watter bottle.
No. This list is on-body/heavy use stuff. All that extra problem-solving gear is JAMMED into my RAPDOM T311 bag.
Great video just one thing I would add a p51 can opener.
GREAT LIST
How About A Set Of Gloves
In Your Wallet, Ear Plugs?????
Thanks Again
EDWARD
Good video Chris. Love the list, but make your cheap sunglasses ANSI Z87.1-203 safety and optical standards at least.
close to what I have in my edc tin:
1. pencil + sticky notes (for giving people information i want them to remember)
2. maglite solitaire led (because AAA)
3. leatherman squirt (it's a tin, after all, don't expect a surge)
4. 8gb flash drive (when you don't need it, you don't need it. when you do, there is no substitute)
5. bic mini lighter (i don't smoke, but still useful to have)
6. lens cloth (phone, sunglasses)
7. band aids (cuts and stuff)
no cordage, no ferro rods, no shit.
I use a SOG EOD something because i got it 1/2 off at SMKW this past summer
I would really like the surge kydex sheath demonstrated in this video but in the vertical position. I tried contacting survival tactics with no success. do you sell these in your store. please advise. Thanks.
Thank you. The what if game drives me insane. Real life only needs the basics. The only other thing i would have added to the list is a watch. I know at my work i don't like to take my phone out, but its nice to know what time it is.
I know you already did a video on it, but what is the wool jacket you are wearing.
Thanks for the info.Well thought out tools for survival.
Chris how about a small hand held water filter-purifier?
Excellent choices. I love that ESEE avispar. Thanks for sharing.
-Jacko

What I find VERY puzzling is the absence of a "Search" field in Preparedmind101 Amazon Outlet.

Will do! As long as you get the ca$hola, I'm good! :-)
Are you keeping any record of how much money did you spent on all your gadgets up to now?
