    Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is an action-adventure first-person shooter video game developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is scheduled for release on May 5, 2015 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is a stand-alone expansion pack in the Wolfenstein series, and a prequel to 2014's Wolfenstein: The New Order. Set in 1946, the single-player story follows war veteran William "B.J." Blazkowicz and his efforts to discover the locations of a Nazi compound.
    The game is played from a first-person perspective and its levels are navigated on foot. The story is arranged in chapters, which players complete in order to progress through the story. It is also separated into two interconnected campaigns. The game features a variety of weapons, most of which can be dual wielded. A cover system is also present.
    Development began in 2014, soon after the release of The New Order.

    You keep saying DLC, it's a standalone game like Dead Rising Off The Record. It has the same amount of achievements as The New Order (51), 7 Chapters, 10 Challenge maps, 64 Gold collectables like 10+ letters to find, 16 perks upgrades and just like New Order you choose which person you want to save... My point here is your getting a whole lot of game for just £13.85 on PS4 or £12.25 on PC. I preordered it on PS4 when I sell it on I might actually make money considering I got £5 a voucher on amazon (payed £7.60).

    Thanks for the review. Took me 11 hours on Uber difficulty, and challenge mode gives enough replayability, so the price is really good in my view.
    I love that all the best aspects of The New Order return here. Top notch shooting mechanics and choice, even better combat scenarios, cool and emotional character moments, memorable Blazko narration, just being absolutely hilarious, humanising the Nazis with either funny conversations or poignant ones like the guy crying over his wife in the tavern. I found being able to turn AI vs AI a lot of fun in the second half, which is especially useful for the end battle in chapter 6. They even bothered putting in one choice which affects the ending, considering this only took 1 year of development.

  • @ImbaSoulDC
    @ImbaSoulDC 9 років тому +5

    For me this game is much longer than 5 hours and I'm just playing on normal with occasional, but not frequent deaths. I like exploring the secret areas as well. The only thing I'd disagree with in the review is that I find picking up items is great and makes it more frantic. It also makes you more aware of your environment and what you have picked up and what you haven't. The stealth section also wasn't that bad, it was actually quite tense and the atmosphere was good. I definitely didn't want any MORE of it but it didn't take away from the game imo.
    This game takes me around 10 hours to complete, and a lot of other people are getting the same time. This definitely is more like an old school EXPANSION than it is a "DLC" imo. This is the Resurrection of Evil to your Wolfenstein. New weapons, some new enemies, new environments, solid narrative and story and the same great gameplay. Average length of 8-10 hours on normal difficulty. It's worth every penny. If people don't support this and torrent it or wait for sales then you all deserve DRM and more EA style DLC. Machine Games did us good here.

    5 hrs? You must have runned and gunned through this game. Im playing it full stealth with exception of few forced alarm sections and it took me 5 hours to beat the first 2 chapters. To each hus iwn, im actually really glad that you can stealth most of this game (hell, there are certain sections I don't even kill anyone and just sneak by after some trial and error) because stealth games are my favorite genre, wdll open world too. I plan on doing a full on murder run after I finish so I can use more of the weapons except the silenced pistol but fir now its stealth all the way. And I liked the beginning, its something wd dont see a lot of, most fps games are run and gun now. I also love the dream levels where you're taken vack too wolfenstien 3d with the current weapons, brings back so much nostalgia. For me, this was the besf $18 I spent on games in a while, im sure ill get 20 to 25 hrs out of my first play through, sneaking and exploring every nook and cranny plus a few play throughs of run and gun.

    1:03 Why did Germans develop a combat shotgun as a weapon of war when they've always been scared shitless of shotguns as "inhumane" weapons of war? Because alternate timeline, maybe. Also, why does that shotgun eject casings to the right if it also feeds from the right? See also Bandit pistols from Borderlands 2.
    3:01 Again with the toggle-lock pistol! Yeah, it's supposed to be reminiscent of the Luger P08, but that was obsolete long before it was replaced by the Walther P38. In the Wolfenstein series, toggle-lock pistols are still being issued in 1980! Why would Germans, who are known for technological advancement (for better or worse), still be clinging onto an obsolete pistol decades after it had been outmoded and outclassed by other designs?!
    6:04 When you saw off shotgun barrels, it leaves burs which have to be sanded off or you won't get good patterns. A disc sander works best, but a belt sander will do. Otherwise, if you have to use improvised means or manual tools, it'll be a pain.

    How much did the game cost in your country? "I would have liked it to last a little bit longer, especially consider the pricetag"
    For me that was a pisitive thing, because of the short story, they sold it for only about 15€ (hungary)

  • @FratFerno

    I figured this game would be no more than 2 or 3 hours, let alone 5. With that much time, surely some parts stand out for the sake of replayability, and the drop in price is more valuable than a few more hours of material.

    No disrespect, I just have an honest question. I always find it odd that so many UA-camrs focus their views of a game largely on the "bang for your buck" mentality. I personally don't understand that mindset, but I would like to have an honest discussion with you about why you may focus on that. (Just judging by your critique on the length and price of the game)

    • @Gggmanlives
      @Gggmanlives  9 років тому

      Logan Spence How is that NOT important? Don't you care whether a game is 2 or 8 hours long?

    • @EpicCraZeShotZ
      @EpicCraZeShotZ 9 років тому

      Gggmanlives No not really. Because personally, I would rather a game be 4 hours long and it be fantastic all 4 hours, than a game that is 60+ hours and it overstayed its welcome 40 hours ago. I mean we all loved Star Fox 64, and that game you can beat roughly less than an hour.

    • @EpicCraZeShotZ
      @EpicCraZeShotZ 9 років тому

      Gggmanlives I would rather play Journey or Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeros hundreds of times over then play say, any of the Final Fantasy XIII games once.

    • @EpicCraZeShotZ
      @EpicCraZeShotZ 9 років тому

      Gggmanlives Also remember, most people don't even beat the games they buy, in fact statistically, 9 out of 10 people don't even beat the game they are playing.
      kotaku.com/5832450/nine-out-of-10-will-not-finish-the-game-they-are-playing
      Not to say long games are bad, I just don't see games being short as negative at all. Hell there are plenty of games that are long that I love, the Arkham series, Bioshock 1 and Infinite, Far Cry 3, Deus Ex series, Half life series, etc. They have their place, however, saying a game is bad or "a negative point is that it's only a few hours long" in my opinion, is flawed. We love Star Fox, FTL, Portal, GunPoint, Braid, Five Nights at Freddy's, the Stanley Parable, etc. these are short games that we all love, so I personally don't understand why shortness is considered bad.
      Length of a game shouldn't be as important in the way you are presenting it. It should be about pacing. I mean Final Fantasy XIII is 15 hours until you get out of the damn tutorial, it lags and lags and lags and you're 13 hours in and still in a tutorial (not to mention that game borderline plays for you) and you just want it to end already, where you play games like FTL or Portal, both games you can beat in like an hour or 2 and guess what? You constantly go back to those games over and over again, why? Because they are paced extremely well and are fun in their own right. But if you keep focusing so much on how long a game is and factoring it as a positive or negative critique, you kind of pigeon hole developers, saying that their games need to be at least 15 hours or longer or it's not worth my money and then greedy publishers see that and then you start seeing arbitrary ways being forced into games to make them longer than their proper lengths. I.E. Final Fantasy XIII, Infamous: Second Son, the infamous "Find the pieces of the Triforce in Wind Waker" nobody liked that mission (though (I still love that game) etc.

    Was really saddened when it ended. Could have been a full sized game but if you play slowly and explore everything you actually play just as long as New Order. This isnt just a standalone addon in my opinion.

    The forced stealth was a slog but (I guess this is considered a spoiler so yea) I kind of thought zombies where a bit of a pushover enemy type. When I first saw them I just used the luger and one bullet to the head, dead. I just didn't see them as a threat kind of more of a joke. Which made moments like the sawn off shotgun scene kind of a joke to me.

    I am still ultra confused about which games are canon (currently).
    I still believe RtCW comes first followed by Wolfenstein2009. Wolfenstein TNO would have to be next since it not only features Caroline Becker who recalls being shot by Hans Grosse, but BJ and Deathshead are still strong enemies. Plus BJ recalls swimming through the pools of water in the X-Labs from RtCW.
    However, there is Wolfenstein TOB which is a direct prequel to TNO, but it would strongly contradict the events of RtCW. But since it does not contain Hans Grosse (instead Rudi Jaeger in his place), it would imply Wolfenstein2009 is still canon(Once again, Caroline remember the event s of that game).

    This is a nice expansion pack and if you like The New Order, this will not be a disappointment. Serious drawback is the end boss: open area, hard to kill and spawning Nazi soldiers as well. Other thing: maybe a tip to review Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. It is not a triple A game but unexpected quite good besides the stupid dueling in between the levels.

    • @peppermillers8361
      @peppermillers8361 8 років тому

      the dueling is actually pretty good. It's better than the one in Bound in Blood. It adopted both dueling systems from the first two games and added it's elements to it, resulting in a fair minigame.

    • @gast128
      @gast128 7 років тому

      @Pepper Millers: I have now played the other two 'Call of Juarez' myself and I can say that the dueling in all those games pretty much ruins it for me. It's pity since those games are actually quite decent besides some other annoyances.
