Glad it was of help! I would also suggest using the ACS. I personally print the ACS out and then go through it line by line writing the answers or the reference I used. Like required instruments = 91.205 . It gives you a way to study methodically before a checkride and you can use it on your checkride! Sorry for the late reply ! Thank you for this, my checkride is the 13th and I did one of those online ground schools and my instructor didn't really teach any other than how to fly so I have been panicking this last week watching all of the videos I can get my hands on that went over the ACS and taught the info we needed to know!!! I always panic before tests but this online ground school has me really worked up, always was used to taking classes in front of a teacher.

Good luck ! And use the ACS to make sure you have covered every thing. When in doubt think safety ! If you can’t remember pick the the answer that would keep you extra safe while flying. The right answer is always best but a safety conscious answer can be acceptable.

@@NEROAviation Blue towers on a sectional show that they are towered airport ( at least during normal hours). I don't think I heard you touch on this subject in the video.. I may have skipped through a little. Magenta aren't towered.

Good luck! Use the ACS to study it can help in that last week when you don’t know what to study. I go line by line through the ACS and write in where I found each reference/ answer ... and if you get stumped on check-ride day use it.

Good catch! I was a CFI before I learned biennial and still say it wrong 😑 all the time. I’m guessing if your catching little stuff like that your going to do great on your check-ride!

What you are calling wet sump is actually splash lubrication, that is not the meaning of a wet sump. A wet sump means the oil supply is in the bottom of the crankcase (or oil pan). Dry sump uses an external oil tank (think Rotax). Wet sumps always have oil in them, dry sumps do not have much oil during operation since a pump (or piston blow by) is removing oil from the sump and putting it back into the oil tank
I don’t recall what I was saying while explaining it. regardless of my explanation the check ride answer is that it’s a wet sump oil system in the Cessna 172 For the private pilot check ride use section 7 ( systems ) of your POH and try not to stray to far into the details when explaining it. Even a CFI can talk himself out of a right answer.
Best of luck !!!! Just keep your wits about you and if you don’t know something look it up ... or make sure you let the examiner know you would look it up before flying ! Think safety if you don’t know go with the safer answer.... and let them know you don’t quite remember ... but are thinking about safety and using common sense which is not hat common.
Great video, good for getting ready for a flight review, he said "biannual" for currency in terms of a review; it should be biennial. When speaking of currency vs proficiency currency is more legal and proficiency leans toward safe, could be confusing to someone who didn't already know that.
I can’t recall what I said about currency vs proficiency... currency is the minimum required , and proficiency is being safe and consistent /proficient. It may take considerably more effort than the 1hr flight | 1 hr of ground required for currency to become proficient. It’s on the first page of the private pilot ACS so have a clear answer ready if your taking a checkride. And the biennial vs biannual someone already blew my mind in another comment when they corrected that ! I was saying it wrong since day one. A flight review is required every 24 calendar months = (Biennial) Thanks for watching and clarifying !
Va has two answers one is the bureaucratic answer which requires the modified stall speed calculation alluded to in this and many other pilot training videos. The other answer is the correct physics and engineering answer which is that Va is only a function of lift(in pounds force) and structural strength(in pounds force), and so gross weight has no effect on Va, though the maximum acceleration(load factor) at Va will change with gross weight. The fact that the pounds-force is due to low acceleration of a large mass rather than high acceleration of a small mass is irrelevant. That is, a c172 does not magically jump from a physical 3.8g structural limit to a 4.4g ability when weight is reduced from 2001 to 1999 pounds. As an appeal to authority, "Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators" and other military training materials confirm my statement that Va does not change.

I think it depends on who you ask. Food could go under fatigue, and emotion and stress aren't really the same thing. Either way of thinking about it is okay so long as you understand that you need to be properly nourished to fly safely.
Except that's not what the FAA says. See the PHAK, section 17, page 17-18. (Food/drink is another very good thing to consider! But I suggest telling DPEs the things that are in the FAA publications.)

1800wxbrief.com is the government /FAA backed source and is what I recommend to students now for checkride prep. It has lots of “hidden” features that can impress examiners if you know them. Map option , flight planning ...ect. It’s all free!
So you won’t spin when stalling with crossed controls? That’s news to me. Not sarcastic at all, that’s not what I’ve been taught, I’ll dig in deeper to see what I can learn about that. I have my checkride in a few weeks.
One of the demonstrated stalls in private pilot training is a cross controlled stall... your instructor should have demonstrated it. A lot of students I get for commercial multi engine and CFI have never seen an actual cross controlled stall. Uncoordinated controls is different from uncoordinated flight. It’s a normal CFI weak point. I would suggest a flight with a CFI and have them do a cross controlled stall or monitor as you do one , it actually makes for a pretty uneventful stall as long as you don’t go crazy with the ailerons. Stomping on the rudder and throwing the nose one way or the other is uncoordinated flight that and a stall and you spinning. Same rotation can happen if your stalling at idle and slam in full power it pulls the plane left when your flying straight and the rotation as your stalling = spin. One of the danger of High performance aircraft. Being smooth with power and rudder can make it pretty hard to spin (unless your a student pilot then all bets are off lol). I”ll see about posting a cross controlled stall soon!

So sorry !!! Some how I missed your question! The ACS will have every topic the examiner with go over but they can ask it anyway they want. I go through the ACS and write down where I found the answer / reference (91.205 ) You can also ask your instructor for a gouge (rough guide to questions) for your particular examiner. The ACS works pretty good if he doesn’t have a gouge. Again sorry for not answering Sooners
It’s about %60 percent of what you need to pass the oral maybe a bit more. it depends on the examiner. Maybe ask your local flight instructor for a cheat sheet for your local examiner and go over it with him before the checkride. That’s what I always try to do with my students. It’s more than some people know when they pass though.

I've seen on FAA Site that "The existing standard airworthiness certificate is transferable to you (14 CFR section 21.179)" link: www.faa.gov/aircraft/air_cert/airworthiness_certification/std_awcert/ Are you meaning that you will need to complete the xfer of registration?
Like you said you have to transfer the airworthiness cert ,and the pink temporary is only good for 60 days ( l believe)and I know of more than one checkride that was delayed because the temporary had expired. Don’t dig too deep for your private pilot license... let the examiner do the talking. There are also some stipulations if it is sold to a foreign entity/owner I find it helpful to read the actual FAR sometimes but the FARs are a bit confusing on registration. 21.181 (1) Standard airworthiness certifi- cates, special airworthiness certifi- cates-primary category, and air- worthiness certificates issued for re- stricted or limited category aircraft are effective as long as the mainte- nance, preventive maintenance, and al- terations are performed in accordance with Parts 43 and 91 of this chapter and the aircraft are registered in the United States. The last sentence about registration is what makes it Invalid upon change of ownership. It’s not expired so you can update it and your good to go ... it also would be invalid if you forgot to keep your registration up to date from the sound of it. 47.41 is all on registration and it’s duration. Not sure I helped explain it ... main thing is don’t dig too deep on your checkride.
to clarify, night landings need to be made 1 hr after sun set to 1hr before BUT night flights begin at civil twilight, which could be 30min after sunset, correct?
Sounds like you got it. Night flight time can be logged at end of civil twilight. I will say that for “currency” or time towards a rating ... like your private pilot night requirements I would just wait till one hour after sunset for wheels up. About the resources, would the same books work for a Canadian exam? Of course replacing the FAA with Transport Canada, but as far as the other 3 go those would do well in Canada?
I really don’t know , sorry! Maybe some one else can chime in from Canada. The few times I have flown in Canada I have downloaded Canadian resources and they are pretty much the same as the US and were easy to understand. Canada does have different looking airspace on the charts and it takes a little bit of study but over all it was not much different than flying in the US. Good luck ! Wish I I could be more helpful.
As a non pilot person this training and certification seems very extensive and very time consuming unless you have your own plane I don't see possibility of keeping current on a regular basis and even then your family life would suffer LOL
It’s a lot of work at first but getting my private pilots liscense was one of the best things I ever did. Family and friends always like to fly for lunch and it makes for some of the best memory’s! Great video but your statement about basic med is incorrect. Student pilots will ALLWAYS need to obtain a 3rd class medical. Basic med is for those who have held a valid airmens medical cert since 2006 or after. So once you get at least one valid medical cert then you can basic med forever. :)
Good catch! Thanks! I’m still weak on the fine points of Basic Med and should read up on It! For students looking to do this as a carrier, I always suggest a first class medical. You don’t want to find out you have a disqualify condition later.
There is NO WAY i could pass this test...its information overload. This discourages me from even thinking about flying a plane. There is no way i could remember all of that if i was asked during a written or oral test.
It’s a tough test but you have lots of time to learn it and it’s at your own pace. It’s crazy how a new student is soloing in under 20 hrs ! First day your like no way ! Then a month in they start bugging me about when they are going to solo lol.
That was for my local airport ... KPLU (Seattle area ) and we are on the soft side of a magenta airspace line so our Golf airspace ends at 700 ft agl ( hard side of the line is 1200 ) Hope that makes sense I couldn’t attach a picture which would have been simpler.

I ask students all the time what airspace we are in ( while they are actually flying ) just after we take off and in the traffic pattern and it’s nuts how many say anything but the right answer. Each examiner will ask different questions but the ACS ( airmen certificate standards ) will at least give you an idea of the questions and areas the examiner will test on. www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/acs/media/private_airplane_acs.pdf You also might ask your instructor about a “gouge”. I’m in the process of making a video with 99 questions that have been asked on check-rides in my area I’ll try to get it done and posted in the next few weeks. There is also a private pilot oral guide put out by ASA that is pretty good.
I also have a link in the description of the video to my goggle drive which has at least one gouge on it and some other great stuff with lots of practice questions.

The E on IMSAFE is Eating properly, not emotion. Emotion is covered by Stress.

So you won’t spin when stalling with crossed controls? That’s news to me. Not sarcastic at all, that’s not what I’ve been taught, I’ll dig in deeper to see what I can learn about that.
I have my checkride in a few weeks.
One of the demonstrated stalls in private pilot training is a cross controlled stall... your instructor should have demonstrated it. A lot of students I get for commercial multi engine and CFI have never seen an actual cross controlled stall. Uncoordinated controls is different from uncoordinated flight. It’s a normal CFI weak point. I would suggest a flight with a CFI and have them do a cross controlled stall or monitor as you do one , it actually makes for a pretty uneventful stall as long as you don’t go crazy with the ailerons.
Stomping on the rudder and throwing the nose one way or the other is uncoordinated flight that and a stall and you spinning. Same rotation can happen if your stalling at idle and slam in full power it pulls the plane left when your flying straight and the rotation as your stalling = spin.
One of the danger of High performance aircraft.
Being smooth with power and rudder can make it pretty hard to spin (unless your a student pilot then all bets are off lol).

The ACS will have every topic the examiner with go over but they can ask it anyway they want.
I go through the ACS and write down where I found the answer / reference (91.205 )
You can also ask your instructor for a gouge (rough guide to questions) for your particular examiner.
The ACS works pretty good if he doesn’t have a gouge.

It’s about %60 percent of what you need to pass the oral maybe a bit more. it depends on the examiner. Maybe ask your local flight instructor for a cheat sheet for your local examiner and go over it with him before the checkride. That’s what I always try to do with my students.
It’s more than some people know when they pass though.
Thanks for posting, NERO! One question, you stated "Airworthiness cert if valid until ownership changes". What is the regulation for this? Are you meaning that you will need to complete the xfer of registration?
Like you said you have to transfer the airworthiness cert ,and the pink temporary is only good for 60 days ( l believe)and I know of more than one checkride that was delayed because the temporary had expired.
Don’t dig too deep for your private pilot license... let the examiner do the talking.
There are also some stipulations if it is sold to a foreign entity/owner
I find it helpful to read the actual FAR sometimes but the FARs are a bit confusing on registration.

The last sentence about registration is what makes it
Invalid upon change of
ownership. It’s not expired so you can update it and your good to go ... it also would be invalid if you forgot to keep your registration up to date from the sound of it.
47.41 is all on registration and it’s duration.

to clarify, night landings need to be made 1 hr after sun set to 1hr before BUT night flights begin at civil twilight, which could be 30min after sunset, correct?
Sounds like you got it. Night flight time can be logged at end of civil twilight.
I will say that for “currency” or time towards a rating ... like your private pilot night requirements I would just wait till one hour after sunset for wheels up.

About the resources, would the same books work for a Canadian exam? Of course replacing the FAA with Transport Canada, but as far as the other 3 go those would do well in Canada?
I really don’t know , sorry! Maybe some one else can chime in from Canada.
The few times I have flown in Canada I have downloaded Canadian resources and they are pretty much the same as the US and were easy to understand. Canada does have different looking airspace on the charts and it takes a little bit of study but over all it was not much different than flying in the US.

As a non pilot person this training and certification seems very extensive and very time consuming unless you have your own plane I don't see possibility of keeping current on a regular basis and even then your family life would suffer LOL
It’s a lot of work at first but getting my private pilots liscense was one of the best things I ever did. Family and friends always like to fly for lunch and it makes for some of the best memory’s!

Great video but your statement about basic med is incorrect. Student pilots will ALLWAYS need to obtain a 3rd class medical. Basic med is for those who have held a valid airmens medical cert since 2006 or after. So once you get at least one valid medical cert then you can basic med forever. :)

For students looking to do this as a carrier, I always suggest a first class medical. You don’t want to find out you have a disqualify condition later.

There is NO WAY i could pass this test...its information overload. This discourages me from even thinking about flying a plane. There is no way i could remember all of that if i was asked during a written or oral test.
It’s a tough test but you have lots of time to learn it and it’s at your own pace. It’s crazy how a new student is soloing in under 20 hrs ! First day your like no way ! Then a month in they start bugging me about when they are going to solo lol.

That was for my local airport ... KPLU (Seattle area ) and we are on the soft side of a magenta airspace line so our Golf airspace ends at 700 ft agl ( hard side of the line is 1200 )
Hope that makes sense I couldn’t attach a picture which would have been simpler.

Each examiner will ask different questions but the ACS ( airmen certificate standards ) will at least give you an idea of the questions and areas the examiner
will test on.

You also might ask your instructor about a “gouge”. I’m in the process of making a video with 99 questions that have been asked on check-rides in my area I’ll try to get it done and posted in the next few weeks.
There is also a private pilot oral guide put out by ASA that is pretty good.
I also have a link in the description of the video to my goggle drive which has at least one gouge on it and some other great stuff with lots of practice questions.
