Winstersun drummer Kai Hahto has been a member of Nightwish since 2015... the bassist Jukka Koskinen also started touring w/ Nightwish.
We Nightwish fans can not thank Wintersun ENOUGH for allowing Kai and Jukka the chance to perform with Nightwish. Whatever happens, we OWE you!!!

Wintersun is finnish metal band and it has a lot of genres combined. Jari Mäenpää (guitar, leadsinger) is mastermind behind the band and Wintersun started as his soloproject while he was still playing in Ensiferum (great finnish metal band also 😉). Jari writes all the songs. Other wizards are Teemu Mäntysaari (guitar, backing vocals), Jukka Koskinen (bass, backing vocals) and human metronome Kai Hahto (drums).
There is still two songs from same rehearsals Time and Land of Snow and Sorrow. They are both with Sons of Winter and Stars from album Time 1. Second Time album has not released yet.
Forest Seasons album is great and has four songs. Awaken From the Dark Slumber (spring), Forest That Weeps (summer), Eternal Darkness (autumn) and Loneliness (winter) all official lyric videos.
Their first album Wintersun has really great songs like Death and Healing, Starchild, Winter Madness, Sadness and Hate, Beautifull Death, etc.

Time is my favorite Wintersun song, just a bit above all the rest of them. It's just a perfect composition, also executed perfectly.
I strongly recommend you to listen to the band Eluveitie! Maybe start with the song "Rebirth"! This is from the last album and I think it shows very well what the band is all about! On the one hand you get melodic death metal! Kickass drums! Melodic guitars and the singer screams his throat out! On the other hand you have violins, bagpipes, the hurdy-gurdy and the beautiful clear female voice! And it goes so well together!
I'll second that recommendation.
I'd also like to add Cellar Darling as well, as that group is ex-Eluveitie members who wanted to do their own thing. Both are excellent.
Oh yeah and check out Cellar Darling is AnnamUrchpey's new project it's so freaking good both albums just holy hell creep haunting also Bisscute wants to do one of hers Freeze or Death great videos as well.

Kai Hahto is "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto ( is a Finnish musician and drummer).
Hahto was a member of the grindcore band Rotten Sound.
Hahto then recorded with the band Wintersun as a session drummer before joining them as a band member.
Hahto has an endorsement relationship with Meinl cymbals, Pearl drums and hardware, Balbex drumsticks, Roland V-Drums and Finfonic earphones.
On 6 August 2014, it was announced that Hahto will be playing drums on the forthcoming Nightwish album, replacing Jukka Nevalainen, who went on hiatus from the band due to insomnia, and Hahto performed on all live shows since that date. On July 15, 2019, Hahto became Nightwish's permanent drummer following Nevalainen's decision not to return to the band.
Wintersun has a massive sound to it .

Wintersun always goes all out with songwriting and arrangement. This same live set has "Time" my personal favorite and "Land of Snow and Sorrow" which is very melodic. Their oldest stuff is epic too like "Winter Madness" and "Starchild"

Oh yeah, so much going on, also the background track is wonderful, little details dropping all the time, and Jari has vocals there too. And I don't know who sings the lowest vocals, on the background track. It's a very nice pirate song, but not my fav Wintersun song, they have other beautiful songs. Glad you had fun listening it.

Wintersun is great. Been a fan for many years. Glad you enjoyed it! Not sure if it's been suggested, but "Count of Tuscany" by Dream Theater is a great song I think you'd really like, based on this one. Not that it sounds the same, but it goes through many changes and is a long song as well. One of my favorite songs of theirs.

I'm so glad you got to this. I've been following your reactions for a while now - particularly your reactions to Nightwish and Rammstein (it's extra enjoyable seeing someone who speaks German experience Rammstein's work). I stumbled across Wintersun through watching Nightwish reactions, and since then I've watched a lot of reactions to "Sons of Winter and Stars" in particular, because it's always a pleasure to see people's heads blown off by this opus. As a composer and musician myself I really gravitate towards reactions from people who are clearly musically astute and yours are a constant pleasure. So I just wanted to say thank you, as this is one of the best reactions to this track that I've enjoyed - you are endearingly genuine and honest, and possessed of the most infectious wide-eyed wonder - seeing your eyes go Pop! at that first "RISE!" filled me with delight because I could see how it hit you just like it did me, that wonderful weight of power and emotion going straight through you. A joy to behold. Cheers!
As a fan of their earlier stuff when I was a metalhead, its weird to see jari without a guitar in their current lineup today. He was a large inspiration to my style of lead style playing at the time. Even more so than yngwie or any of the og guitar heroes. I used to listen to wintersun and many other power metal bands for inspiration for my solos or learning, 24/7 and on repeat any time when i wasnt actually playing. Wintersun amd stratovarius all day every day. People would ask me whose the best have you heard dragonforces new song? Im like nah man its wintersun hands down, trust me. I used to credit friedmans style of out of scale bends and vibratos to sound like im playing something other than a major minor or harmonic minor, but then it was yari that taught me the use of sliding in and out of asian sounding while utalizing traditional powermetal keys. People ask what key are you playing in when you do that? Im like bruh its standard keys but then i do this! It was a very different and creative than what i was used to hearing from other powermetal bands.
If you are in a right mindset - Loneliness will crush you in the most beautiful way.

About the Background of the Song: It was inspired by a friend of Myles who sold him his first guitar when he was a kid and they stayed friends for years. He tragically passed away right as the Song was completed.

But on the radio they just play noises that is 2 minutes long, and follow the same template as the 10 songs they played before. All about the same crap, with the same 4 notes.
And half of it is made on a computer, and the singer has effects on half of the silly stuff they say..
We promote crap in everything, food, music and so on.
While real talent is something you have to go out of your way to find and consume.
