Ooh, very nice to see you tackling Starsector. It's been one of my favourite games the last couple of years, and the mods you've chosen are pretty much a direct copy from my modlist. Have fun, and will definitely follow this series!
Centurion can be an absolutely massive PITA to kill, especially if you run very flux efficient weapons. OTOH, going max flux and leaning into the damper field can be scary too.
He must've be thinking of the new(or lore wise, ancient) Vanguard frigate. The Centurion's combination of Midline level shields and armor with a Damper Field on top makes it a double layered turtle that's hard to kill. If you want something even tougher that can withstand a capital ship's firepower, the Monitor's wide and powerful shield enhanced by its Fortress Shield ability makes it almost invincible.
Cool! This looks like it's going to be an awesome series - i don't have any experience with Starsector but from what I've heard it looks very cool but overwhelmingly complex for me to play so I'm happy to see someone like you tackling it!
Looking forward to this series. And I may have to check the Second in Command mod it looks interesting. Quick tip for phase ships is that time flows faster for them when phased, if it's the player ship time flows slower for others. Also phased ships can go through ships that are not phased as well.
Great point on the phase ships, and yes Second in Command makes a nice break from the standard system and let's me pick combat perks and not feel like I am missing out.
Just started to watch this series so I'm an episode late. Some few tips - pirates tend to camp outer jump points of the system. Especially during a system bounty event - its a good idea to check the stations for people selling off their old freighters at the start as they are very cheap, be warned though, they are cheap for a reason as they are filled with D mods. - Killing pirate fleets outside the system still gives you credit rewards as long as you are within its proximity - picking up ship parts are actually worth it, as systems with shipyards will pay a lot for them especially during conflicts. Sometimes there also shortage events on said planets that will also pay more for those parts. - the bounty from the mod doesn't regenerate but doesn't expire. They offer extremely rare ships and also ships with story points. - storypoints can be also earned from leveling up and selling ships with storypoints to bar events. - if you want to avoid fighting pirates and they are chasing you, drop some few cargo pods, preferably filled with scrap metal to destract them. - phase cloak ships act like "submarines", you can also use it to go behind the enemy ship which is sometimes unshielded. Hope to see more videos of this game.
Yes. We got Starsector! Lets remember to like and comment so Phros knows we are down for this Edit: Ship name: Grok. (Pronounced Guh-rock) Its a word invented in Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein. Great sci fi novel
First of all, let me say how delighted I am to see you playing Starsector, the first of the games I've watched that I have significant experience with. With that being said, here are just a couple small tips for you in this part of the game: - Heavy Machinery is actually not awful to be picking up as salvage, especially over metal and other scrap since it sells for 5x those at least per unit. - Those patrol missions active for 120 days are great, since they don't actually have a completion requirement, so if you decide not to go for them after accepting them, you aren't penalized in reputation. Also, damn, that's a ballsy start! I like it! I will watch your career with great interest, captain.
Yeah I wanted to take the machinery I was just so worried about cargo space! I make more of a point to take it in the next video. Thanks for the heads up about the patrol missions, I didn't realise there was no penalty for not doing them!
@@Phrosphor Honestly, if you took a cheap frigate-sized freighter, the salvage you could quickly collect and then sell within one war-torn system could probably pay for it twice over, even at full tariff payments
You have an amazing taste in mods. Salvage ship expansion is such a gem! Only mod i miss is Thalan Shipworks. I challenge you to beat the Legio one day Looking forward to this. Edit: You do get the bounty outside of the system.
You will need to do a little editing on a few of the mods to get them to work in the latest version but I am excited for some of the late game surprises we will see!
Oooooo SO very hyped for this. I have poured hundreds of hours, maybe a thousand even, into this game. I also have strong opinions about some parts, but I’ll try to keep those to myself 😂 Also, VIC are OP af if you have them. I’ve solo’d basically everything in the Sturmcapital.
Oh another thought, I’m not a big fan of Starship Legends. The buffs can be pretty middling, but the debuffs can be absolutely crippling with no recourse except desperately grinding through them. Risk reward is exceptionally poor imo.
Okay about halfway in and here’s some tips: EMP emitters are blocked by shields, but shields are directional. So when fighting the tiger, if you phase behind it and activate your emp, you can get around the shield to disable the engines and smash it. This goes for any ship without a full-coverage shield. Your primary weapon on your shade, and secondaries (in the back) on the Wolf, are antimatter blasters. These are massive damage energy weapons, but they have ammo. You’ve set it to autofire currently, which can be highly wasteful and hard to manage because they also produce a lot of flux all at once. If you want a challenge and are leaning into the ambush trope you can keep them, but I’d advise swapping those weapons on both ships to other weapons. Both your ships have zero PD. Technically your shade does cause the EMP can act as PD, but a wave of missiles while you’re on CD is a death sentence. I’d advise reviewing your weapons in more detail and at a slower pace, and significantly advise having 360 PD on every ship in your fleet. One well timed Salamander from the enemy is easily as dangerous as fluxing out. Harpoons are okay missiles, good ammo for their ordinance, and high damage, but very slow and easily shot down. Consider swapping out the missiles based on your playstyle. Having multiple weapons with limited ammo and needing manual control (your missiles & antimatter blaster) can be very overwhelming, so consider having a single weapon system you manage carefully (a high damage anti-armour or hull weapon), while eveything else (PD and anti-shield) on autofire.
Also, after a fight, any loot left behind goes into a bundle of containers left to drift into oblivion. If you want to go back and grab it, you can interact with that bundle and for a scaling cost in supplies (negligible at the start), you can lock the position of that bundle and save the nav point for like 400 in-game days. For example, after your first fight, for the cost of 1-2 supplies, you could have collected all that loot safely and easily. You dont need to do this if youre that close to a station like you were, but can be indispensable when exploring or taking massive fights near stations where youre gunna need to haul in all that loot.
33:06 you will get bounties in hyperspace if youre within the “range” of a system. I generally consider this within the ‘circle’ of a systems outer-most jump points. You’ll also still get faction bounties, and payment from your own faction/commissioner in hyperspace.
you missed out on that destroyer. yeah it's not top of the line, but it's superior to everything currently in your fleet, has infinitely more cargo space, and is surprisingly tanky.
I'm actually not sure, I didn't realise it was different. I looked through the mod descriptions and I didn't see any claiming to do so. At a guess it might be the fuel anomaly mod?
Dropped it by another big notch for video two (on it's way), let me know if its sounding better. Gone over it twice and hopefully it's a much better experience.
I think if anyone can lay any sort of clout on Pyotr at this point it might be me? Having completed 3 Highfleet campaigns including a fully custom one with ships designed to punish my playstyle as much as possible!

Thats really cool to see I am using some of your favorite mods! I hope I do the game justice!
3:20 The centurion does have a shield and you get the damper field as an extra "oh crap" special. It's a good all-around frigate.
Centurion can be an absolutely massive PITA to kill, especially if you run very flux efficient weapons.
OTOH, going max flux and leaning into the damper field can be scary too.

@@ham_the_spam4423 The Monitor was so broken for so long, that it feels weird to use it, now that its balanced.
My lack of game knowledge foils me again! DOH! The Centurion sounds like a monster but I am having a blast with the EMP Phase frigate for now.
