- Everyone always asks me, "what is your morning routine?" "how can you get up so early?" and "what do you do when you wake up?"
In today's video, I am telling you all about my morning routine and how it has evolved and changed throughout my years as a pre-med, medical student, and now resident.
I hope you enjoy!

she is so hardworking .... I love you you are a true inspiration 😘😘💖
"The fact that you do it, is what matters." love this!! POWER Hour! I'm gonna use this term!
My morning routine: wake up at 5 am, 10-15 min of HIIT, protein/coffee/spinach smoothie. Then work!
Very motivating!! I just started my medicine residency and I'm definitely going to try and utilize my mornings better now! thanks :)
awesome video! I totally agree :) I'm also most productive early in the morning, but I find that if I don't have a plan for what I'm going to accomplish I won't get as much done. So I usually make a plan the night before for what I want to get done the next morning and that usually works pretty well. Thank you so much for your advice! I found your videos about one year ago and I'm so glad I did! I'm starting medical school this summer and you've been such an inspiration :)
You're such an amazing inspiration! Someone who is a great genuine person. Thank you for your videos! I'm studying for the CPA now and it becomes tough to stay motivated sometimes. Thank you for this video!
Hi Dr Andrea, your videos always inspire me and give me motivation to study . Love you !😊
Hey, Andrea! Just loved this new video. I am also working on my morning routine that usually starts at 3 am. Sometimes I feel that I need to get out of home to get things done, and I will try to go to med school/hospital earlier, thanks for the advice.
Thank You!! Great solid practical advice as always.
Hi Andrea. I really admire everything that you're doing. I've been watching your videos for quite some time now. You're always inspiring, and full of energy and optimism. Thank you so much for encouraging us pre-meds and really for just being your awesome self! You're an amazing doctor and I'm sure you'll thrive in all that you do!
I got so motivated to learn by watching your morning routine. Thank you!
Thanks Andrea, for a while now I've felt so stuck being at home all day trying to study for my CK but not getting any work done, but revisiting your videos now is helping me try to stay on track and work hard, I know I have the potential to get a good score. I will start waking up early from now on and stop procrastinating.
Thank you Andrea!! Loved it
Hi Andrea! Can you do an evening/night routine? I love the video and hearing about your morning routine!
Love this video! Perfect for watching while getting ready in the morning :)
Miss you a lot ! Watched you in my undergrad!!! Thank you for your encouraging video 🥰. God Honour and bless you
Love this! I'm like you in that mornings are my productive time, although I admit I'm not always great at taking advantage of them. One thing I like to do to encourage myself to get up is having my water kettle for coffee and a lamp in my room on a timer (I use the kind you can buy to turn Christmas lights on and off) and set to turn on when my alarm goes off. That extra noise of water boiling plus having a light come on makes a huge difference in terms of helping me wake up, especially on cold and dark winter days when I'd rather sleep in that extra hour!
You're the only youtuber I could listen for solo long. You're a really great UA-camr
great video! A night routine video would also really help to get an idea of how your schedule all fits together and how much sleep you get :)
Thanks for sharing what has worked for you over time instead of saying "Ok, do x, y, and z". Waking up early seems to drastically vary from person to person so and I appreciate the format of this video! Thanks again!
I love the coffee tip -- never thought about a pour-over to get quick coffee! Thanks, Andrea! :)
i love this! after being in grad school for a year, this is exactly what I do now. mornings are sacred :)
watching this before I go to work!
You are such a hard worker. I really hope to learn something from you :)
Hello Andrea I have this huge exam in a couple of days and you really motivated me all the way through!! wish me luck! :'))
Thank you for this video. Very helpful. I don't take advantage of my power hour. I have an example to follow this.
You are amazing!
I'm a morning person, but I use that time to clean instead :)
Thank Yousosososo much for this Video. it really motivated me. pls keep Making videos:)) maybe a vid about healthy lunch 2 go for college students? Love Form Germany
Can you make a video for continued medical education in private practice after residency/fellowship? Cheers. Keep up the excellent work! Plus your coffee recipe & brand!!!😊
I love getting up early too!
thank you for the amazing advice!how do you get in the zone after a long day of work? especially when you have a big exam coming up?
Hello Andrea ! Thank you for all the tips It's really helpful ! I really struggle sleeping early but I know that studiying in the morning is more efficient
Do you have any advice for me ?
Thank you so much ! Greetings from Belgium :)
Inspirational ☺️
Could you please do a vedio on the research that you did and your recommendations & way of planning and working on a research for the doctors who are planning their first research.
You are amazing 🤗
WOW, WOW
Hey Andrea! Have you ever had to bring back your sleep schedule? My college sleep schedule was 3am - 9am, and I really want to work that back.
I absolutely love to watch your videos although I am always feeling a little lost and overwhelmed... I am going to be a freshman in high school and I know I want to do something in the medical/health field in my future. I am wondering what I can do as a 9th grader to start learning more about the medical field, how to get into medical school and just everything! I'm not even sure what exact questions to ask but I know I want to start preparing to become a possible doctor or surgeon or something in the health field later in life. If anyone has any advice for me please leave a response :)
The content you learn later in the day is easier to recall the following day. For fellow students, I strongly suggest looking into sleep's role in memory and the recent documentary by Michael Mosley on sleep.
Hi Andrea i love you so much i have been watching you for years plzzzzz make an interview with a pediatrician
you should do a video on how you're trying to eat more plant-based foods! or some recipes or something . I know that's a little different from your channel's purpose but I think it'd be fun :)
thanks great vid
wow you are so hardworking
Can you make a short video on how you studied biochemistry and genetics?
I've never clicked on a video so fast!
Did you have a strict MCAT routine? I'm currently studying for the MCAT and I'm trying to find good balance with my time. :)
scotsgirl87 the mcat she took is probably different from the one now
how do you get up that early ?thats amazing . thank you for your good videoes
going to bed early, lol
I prefer late night studying. I work second shift so it's kinda the only time I have. Usually I'm exhausted at that time, but on days I don't have early things going on, I make sure to sleep in so I know I'll be more awake later!
Hey I'm wondering: when do you go to bed? You talk about loving sleep, so I'm wondering how early you'd have to go to bed to be able to wake up at 3-4 am. And how do you streamline your evening routine so that you're not wasting time at night? Thanks!
she has to be going to bed around 9pm... for a college student this sounds insanely early, but i know sugeons and that's about the right time to go to bed when you have surgery at 7am every week.
how do you know if you are more productive at night or in the day time?
Hi Andrea! I'm an aspiring Optometrist, I was just wondering what your opinion was on an expanded scope of practice for optometrists, particularly for performing minor laser surgeries? I know it's a hotly debated topic in the OD/MD world :) I love all you do!!
Very nice video. 💕 as always..😊
What time do u go to sleep..that even when you wake up so early , you donnt have to compromise your sleep. ?
8:30-9pm
Hey, Andrea. Do you perform your own retrobulbar blocks or does a CRNA/Anesthesiologist do it before you get into the OR? We're learning them now (in CRNA school) and I'm wondering if the ophthalmologist does it themselves or not.
How should you balance research work, clinical rotations and studying for exams, all together?
How many hours of sleep do you get on avarage? ☺️
@MikeHunt lmfaoooo. she did say she prioritizes sleep, but if she's getting up at 4-4:30am on average, she must be going to bed at 9am at the latest. 8 hours would be 5am, i wouldn't be surprised if she goes for 7 to 7 1/2. surgeons typically have surgery start around 7am so early mornings become the norm and you gotta go to bed so early :( i don't want to be a surgeon lmao
Hi Dr. Tooley, I am a morning person and quite productive in the mornings. However I find it difficult to get myself out of the bed when I wake up and I end up staying in bed, wasting time in the morning before class. Do you have any suggestions for motivating myself to get out of bed and beginning my day?
You are so hardworking 💪🏼 I have a question, what specialty would you recommend to someone who wants children?
anything you want, just gotta make time :) obviously some are harder to do "part-time" than others though. surgeons are known for being on call and working 60-80 hour weeks
Hello Andrea, Why don't you interview someone who's in US specifically for fellowship after doing residency in their own country and plans to go back. It may help those people who are planning to do only fellowship in US.
hey I was wondering if you had any tips on international med students applying to us residency programs... I know about all the exams you have to take, but what do residency programs look for in a med students?
Can you interview a CRNA pls & thank you!
How do you keep you teeth so white (even when drinking coffee)? Any tips would be really appreciated! :)
this is super random but seeing as you're an ophthalmologist maybe you can answer it haha, is there a way to make the whites of my eyes brighter/more white? like drops i can use or something
Do you take it black or with milk/creamer?
Did you upgrade your camera?
i was wondering - when do u get to the bed each night, when u get up soooo early! :)
I was thinking the same :)
TheMysthicalWhore 10-5
also u can tell us your evening routine and how to eliminate stress to have a refreshing sleep! :)
8:30-9 she said that at insta stories
Fernanda Rosado like a baby 😁
Do all med schools offer a path to a career in Tropical Medicine?
What time do you go to sleep?
9pm
I'm sorry but I have to ask you - HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR COFFEE??!
I liked to drink coffee to study better, but my body got used to caffeine so I feel no benefit now :(
Rebecca Marilyn that's bad. When I drink coffee I'm able to sleep normally haha
ReyesPiano if you cut it out and then just use it for times you really need the productivity boost your body won't get used to it:)
Yesterday I woke up for dinner
How many kids do you want and when do you plan on having them ?
You are still in residency? lol
look at those big baby browns
Can i bite you......😊💔
Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, I stared at your smile and it burned a hole in my retina, do u take medicaid? Also, in your quest for perfection, please work on reducing the number of times you say 'Umm'. Cheers.
