Try reading "The Power of Habit", by Charles Duhigg. The term I read it, I started using my time much more effectively, and went up 10% across the board.
We study very similarly! I also write things out on white boards, make flash cards and take hand notes. I cannot learn from reading a powerpoint or document. I do use Quizlet so I can take multiple choice quizzes like we do in class which is very helpful to me. I use your little word association thing too, I am a respiratory therapy student and I remembered Central Chemo receptors read CO2 because they both begin with C.
This was amazing Andrea!! loved the Dave lettermen connection 😂😂😂 I do such things too. So glad about your peads exam. For me, personally, writing things down always helped and since the time you shared about folded sheet, I have been using them religiously but I am also a auditory learner so I try to record my own voice like I am lecturing and that helps too 🙌

Wow! This mnemonic technique you described - I have been using this throughout my nursing school! I've come up with most strange images, rhymes, names, etc. And it was really my secret weapon which took through most of the exams. I was just amazed how you described it exactly the same way I've been using this! I thought I've invented this method lol

Hi, I am a Radiodiagnosis resident with my exams in 4 months...This is pretty much what i do.. I also use post-its when the column space runs out.. And draw flow charts for pathogenesis on a post-it instead of reading a paragraph, helps me retain the concepts better. Thank you. Good luck with your fellowship :)

I wish I would have been this creative when I was in pre-clinical. Instead, I just made condensed flashcards. After that, I do all my learning using USMLE-Rx/UWorld and putting my gaps into Anki flash cards. SketchyMedical is actually another great resource.

Hi Andrea, I'm a 3rd yr med student and I am really struggling...I have literally forgotten all of my physiology and from that can't connect the pathophysiology...even easy things like how many leaflets are there in the mitral valve or blood supply to the hands - I just forget everything! Even in clinics, I don't even know what's going on despite asking as many questions- it's come to a point where I don't even know the reasons why people are put on IV fluids and how to come to that decision!!! PLEASE HELP I am going out of my mind :(

This was helpful! Instead of Anki, I use quizlet. I can then print the document and go to the white board with it to quiz myself!!
