I'm really impressed with how much people can recover with help, effort and a positive attitude, I bet you have given hope to a lot of people. Thank you Sarah and Joanie ❤
Hello from Tennessee! Sarah, I remember seeing one of your videos during my senior year in High School in 2010. It's been something that's always stuck in the back of my mind. I found this video today, and a giant smile was put on my face. Congratulations to your success, I admire your hard work and dedication. Please don't forget to make sure another video gets out in a few more years. I will be very happy to see you again.
Sarah you are amazing! ❤🎉🥳 I got hit with a stroke April 7th 2019 so now 4 years and 28 days. This is my stroke survivor & heart transplant story. I got hit with heart failure at the end of March 2019, I was at 12% 🎉. And then April 7th, 2019 stroke. I have 2 blood clots, no blood flow to my brain for about 1 hour maybe 2 hours. I'm at Georgetown and Dr.Stemer did the surgery. Woke up two times, first time, woke up Apr 9, still gone, I was paralyzed on the right side. When I woke up Apr 13, fully together. The nurse came and I point to the bathroom and the nurse said you're paralyzed, the nurse left. God spoke to me. The nurse check me out, 3 days later go to the bathroom by myself, woohoo! 4 Weeks Later, Georgetown told me that have aphasia. At the time, I cannot read write or speak and I forgot everything. I go back to Inova and Dr.Cole "It was so bad. He needs to get a room immediately." I was at the hospital 4 months, and then I got a heart transplant. I was home in my bed for 2 months, they cut through my chest. 4 months at the hospital and 2 months in my bed = 6 months. Then go to rehab my muscles and my brain. I go back to work Jan 6,2020, 8 months 30 days. I have proof. You can email me or call me. God bless you.
Wow, you are doing amazing, Glory to our Loving God, keep up the hard work I know it’s not easy because I am a quadriplegic 9 years post but God is the answer, He will see us thru all our struggles and setbacks. God bless
I cried seeing how positive you are and it reminded me of how ungrateful I can be sometimes. I am really proud of how far you have come and you will always be an inspiration and burst of positivity for me. You are such a beautiful person :)
Hey Sarah! It is impressive to see your progress and that you still keep making these videos! I am currently studying medicine and you are a great inspiration for me to keep learning and working hard on my aim of becoming a neurologist. It is lovely to see how you cope with that event in your life and that makes me smile all the time! I wish you all the best! Greetings from Germany :)
I remember how charming you were when you released your first video, I saved it because I was invested. You are just as mesmerising now. Well done for so beautifully overcoming your life hurdles.
It is heart warming to watching you, and learn of your journey. I am 2 years and 8 months removed from a hemorrhagic stroke. I was left with pronounced right-side paralysis and Expressive Broca's aphasia. I was blessed that the paralysis got rapidly better. The aphasia has been more of a struggle. Pre-stroke, spelling was not an issue and mathematics was a strong suit of mine. Therapy has helped with spelling, with math still is a mystery. One of your issues that I took note of was regarding friendships. Mine have suffer greatly. I am still me, though I am more quiet than I was pro-stroke. I have a different set of friends that I have met with rehabbing at a gym. Fellow TBA suffers that accept me as I am. Keep smiling Sarah because your is beautiful. If you are ever in Dallas TX, my wife and I would love to meet you.
I just love how bright and brave she is. She is also pretty. Sometimes strokes can also be disfiguring -- she avoided that. and she is doing better with speaking.
Congratulations, Sarah on your latest milestone, 9 years since your stroke! You made tremendous progress over the years. And you WILL continue to improve as time goes on. I can speak with some authority ;) as a 27 year stroke survivor, myself, who still makes improvements every day. Good luck on a wonderful life ahead. Just keep on working hard. You'll do just fine. All the best from Boston!
VERY PROUD OF YOU !!! I Remember watching your video 4 years ago as a medical student, the improvement is astonishing, keep up the good work, stay strong, I'm graduating now and you truly inspire me.
Her improvement is really noticeable. No young person should have to deal with things like stroke, mental illness or terminal stuff... I'd say no one should suffer through it, but it is particularly brutal in the youth. I wouldn't have the strength to survive this kind of change. You don't know how valuable communication is until you lose it or it becomes scattered.
You are such an inspiration Sarah. Watching your progress shows that with a big effot on your behalf that you were able to manage your Asphasia. You are doing so well uou made me cry. . I had my stroke 1 year ago and im still on my journey thank you for being so open . More power to you young lady..
Great to see your progress - I might share this with some of my patients in rehab. Access to work grant is great but Sarah highlights a really good point - if you don't know the job fully coz you haven't started it, it's hard to know what you might struggle with/need adapting. ATW is generally very supportive though, nothing like PIP/DLA.
You seem to be dealing with this very well considering the severity of the stroke. You are a lovely girl and very bright and a heroine to others suffering similar condition. I wish you the very best and hope you keep that positive attitude you seem to have. May God bless you abundantly.
Congratulations on your achievements and progress Sarah! One of your early videos is actually used in our psychology syllabus at Monash University in Australia. Thank you for sharing your experiences and helping us to see how aphasia affects someone and how they rise above the challenges. Thank you and best wishes!
Hey Sarah, Thanks to your videos we were and are confident that my Mother that had a stroke 2 years ago will be fully recovered. Your videos are truly inspirational and made a difference for us. I mean really thank you to show us what's the most important thing in life: Communication with each other and specially with your loved ones.
Been studying aphasia at uni, your videos have been amazing for knowledge on the subject, but it is your unwavering positivity that keeps me watching. You truly are an inspiration, reminding me to try to be the best I can be no matter what
Hi! I've been following your videos for a long time now, (I've commented before, not that it should make any difference!) Great to hear/see that you're progressing forwards and onto more and more challenging things, and you've developed realistic ways of achieving goals. Having had Broca's Aphasia myself due to a stroke (1996) I'm truly impressed, as my way of learning was initially "I refuse to give up, now why haven't I learnt particle physics today....grr......", which is always destined for failure (I still don't understand GCSE physics, which might be why....) Thank you for the video, and the inspiration to us all to keep pushing ourselves (but sensibly!)
Ever since I saw your first video here on UA-cam, when you published it shortly after your stroke, I’ve been following your progress-and wow! It’s crazy to think about how quickly the 9 years went by. It is unbelievable how much progress you have made over the years, and your wonderful attitude and search for a new challenge is impressive! I hope your new job will give you the challenge and progress you are looking for! All the best wishes for your future, Sarah!
Thank you for sharing your story with us. It is such a privilege to be able to follow your journey so thank you so much for allowing us into your life in this way. I'm revising for an exam in neuroanatomy so seeing real life examples of aphasia and recovery is such a great resource so thank you so so much for being so generous.
Very impressed with your progress. And I have to say, the subtleties in your expressions are EXCEPTIONALLY charming. Glad to see the stroke didn't affect the parts of your brain that control THAT.
You have come a long way. I am very happy and proud of you. You are a beautiful person and you have handled a very challenging situation with courage and grace. :)
Hey Sarah-So happy to see the leaps and bounds you have made with your speech and fluency. It really is testament to all your hard work and determination in your recovery. Well done sweetheart. I started following you many years ago, and this is the first video I have watched in a few years. Just thought of you randomly out of the blue... and wondered how you were doing. So happy to see you thriving, happy and marching on with life. Much love.
This is so inspiring to watch, Sarah. Cheers to you and your journey and recovery. I am so proud of your progress and all you have worked to achieve. I hope others who have suffered similar circumstances can watch your videos and realise they have it within themselves to move on through the hardship and innumerable obstacles to emerge a winner, like you. Love from a medical student.
I came across your first video studying for neurophysiology, I'm so happy you've progressed especially in your fluency. Thanks for the update video. Best wishes 🙆🏻♀️
Hey you should be proud of all the things you've accomplished. I'm 22 and have no difficult challenges on me like you do and i havent been able to do half of the things that you have. I'm really glad to see you not only kept striving for better things and a normal life but that youve also succeded much more than lots of other people without any dissability.
I'm so glad to watch your progress Sarah!! I've been watching your videos for years and show them to my high school psychology students who are your age when you had the stroke. They always love to learn about you and see your progress. Keep up the great work and the inspirational posts! You have a great mum Joanie, who is also a great interviewer. If you come to Washington D.C. give me a shout.
Thank you for these videos! I first encountered Sarah's update videos in late 2015 and was amazed at her recovery and the wonderful idea of doing annual videos to track her progress. I think it's a great thing for everyone to consider doing, even if they haven't had a stroke.
If Ms Scott can re-learn talking, reading and writing, there is no excuse for me not having the willpower to quit smoking. She has such an incredibly strong mind, I'm truly in awe.
Congratulations! Glad to hear your life is going excellently! You deserve it for all you persistence and hard work :) Happy to see you spread awareness about this silent disability. Congratulations! 🎉 - 🇮🇪🍀🇮🇪
Fair play the progress you’ve made over the years since your first video is inspiring, you’re going from strength to strength and I hope you keep us updated over the next few years 👍🏻
You have made such amazing progress. It's good to see you continuing working towards your goals. My speech and hearing class here in Minnesota is really enjoying watching you progress and gain more and more confidence in yourself. Way to go Sarah. I hope to hear from you soon.:) Stay strong!!
Thank you for sharing. Very educational and personal. I want to understand your (Sarah's) situation better and been watching the videos. I´ve been pondering about the relationship between language and thought, the inner speech in higher mental processes (reasoning, problem solving etc.) I wonder if the fluency of your (Sarah's) spontaneous speech/writing has affected the thought process and how? If no, have you (Sarah) compensated in a way or is it just not related in this case?
Always glad to see your updates. Really glad you got a more challenging job and hope you are happy :) I could never work with blood myself (I'm too squeamish) but cancer research is such a noble profession, I'm really proud of you 😄
Hey Sarah, it's awesome to see a new update. I've only recently found your channel, while looking for examples of aphasia for a story I'm writing. You've made so much progress over these years. Keep being awesome :)
Well done with your incredible progress over the years and for overcoming the challenges that aphasia has presented. I would love to know what apps you use to help with your reading and writing x
Hello from Virginia! Love watching your story! Very inspiring! I discovered your videos while studying aphasia this semester. Would love to know more about how numbers work for you. Best wishes!!
I discovered your first video 9 years ago whilst studying aphasia at university... Well done! Best of luck!
Clarence Xue what do you do now?
Glad to see your still keeping us updated, look forward to watching this one.
I'm really impressed with how much people can recover with help, effort and a positive attitude, I bet you have given hope to a lot of people. Thank you Sarah and Joanie ❤
That's really nice - thank you for watching. It's not always easy even now, but being positive does help quite a lot!

Great to see you keeping us updated on your condition. You look amazing! Keep up the great works! You have a fan base supporting you.
I suffered a stroke 6 years ago, you have done well, my speech is still affected.
“Knowing Better” showed me this channel. He explained your situation in his aphasia video
I have aphasia. I admire your resilience and hard work in changing yourself to what you want to be.
