This is one of the most unforgiving games I've ever played and I can't stop lol
i could not fall in love with it refunded it 90 mins in... i guess watching NL is more fun for me

Same. I've played enough to beat the other final boss and make it to levels beyond, but the game will still stomp me in the Dwelling without any hesitation every now and again. I'll probably put another couple hundred hours into it.

possible hot take. I prefer NL's Spelunky series more than his issac series just because the outcome is far more unpredictable there for in my opinion makes Spelunky more entertaining
i come to spelunky for gameplay and isaac for a podcast, its very rarely required to watch isaac, but nl talking about random shite is wonderful
@@aaronevans2580 Same. During my university years, I used to open Isaac runs while studying for my exam. I generally don't look at the gameplay except when NL is not talking or is talking exclusively about the state of the game, then it's guaranteed that something spicy is going on.

yes, it feels to me that that's how the game was meant to be played when you kill money stops being a factor except for score and so many cool mechanics like the idols lose meaning
That rope/altar/jetpack series of events just shortened my life by 27 days.

Try out the camera NL. You might like what it offers. Stuns almost every enemy. Kills undead creatures in one shot(not confirmed) sets off traps with the flash. Pretty good in my opinion lol
Also lights up dark areas and levels. Don't have to carry the torch, just use the flash
NL not seeing the free jetpack up in the top right at 17:03 made me lose my freakin' mind

Back in the day,the nore i saw NL playing Spelunky HD,the more i wanted to play it myself.
With Spelunky 2 ,it's the opposite.
This game is work.
NL is very impatient with the game tho, that's why it's so tough i think.

That shop play on really hurt me, especially with the idol being right there as well as the ghost pot, and gold in the ground you could bomb

Watching this is like reliving all of my Spelunky 2 plays. Painful, but maybe therapeutic. This is why there is a whole class of gamers called gaming dads. The skill (time?) gap is real.

If you're going for non criminal methods, the golden idols are gonna be a lot more helpful. At 23:30, there was an idol that would've gotten you the jetpack if you dropped it off at the shop!
When things seem to go really nicely and then you see there's only one minute till the end of the video.
i had given up on this game (spelunky 1) a while ago but watching your vids made me give it another go, and i finally beat it last night from the beginning!

19:15 You can work on getting "all the advantages" while the drill goes down. Never explore the drill floor without dropping the drill because you already have to wait way too long for the lava to drip so it's safe to go down, if you explore a bunch, you won't have time to get to the bottom before you're dodging a ghost
plus it's gives you a full level rope

Every day I watch a new spelunky video and everyday I find myself considering a little bit more "Hey maybe I should get this game, NL's having a fun time" but I know myself and I know that I'm not really into platforming for platforming's sake

First minute finding a floor layout where you can't proceed without using resources is a bad omen. Incredibly rare, I've not seen it once yet, and I spend a LOT of time on the first floor, but still not a good sign

You can hold down instead of up when dismounting torkeys and the like to just get off instead of jumping

For weirdly placed bats, what I do is use the back of the whip
I feel like it has a more reliable hitbox
Anyway, the deaths are still funny
back of the whip is great for bats, every bat I see I use the back whip, since it hits higher than the front whip.
Is NL still playing the beta? Derek already re-tuned 1-1 and 1-2. It’s like the dominatrix relented when they realized they went too far. And NL is like, “No, let’s keep doing it that way.”

yang doesn't usually pay out well enough to give up the two free hp imo. If there was a guaranteed crate in there, maybe, but I've gotten $2000 from it before. Decided that was the last time I was going to mess with that
even if Yang's payout was AWESOME, you can just kill him and take the key anyway, there's litteraly NO REASON not to kill Yang

I think you could have gotten out of the hole at the end by gaining height with the shotgun's knockback and maintaining your height with the hoverpack
