I got pretty good at Spelunky but Spelunky 2 is a whole different ball game. Join me as I try to unravel the mysteries of the moon, and defeat Olmec and conquer the dungeons all over again!

Honestly it depends. Each handles differently and i personally prefer the more predictable and convient handling of the jetpack

using a rope when holding a turkey that'll let you jump up actualy hurt me
also Vald's cape gives you a douple jump and the cape effect but it also doubles the amount of blood from thingsso if you have the Kaparla it's really good jetpack probs still better though
turkeys are really difficult to use. i always dismount instead of jumping.
@@DestroManiak do u use a controler if so I've found d-pad helps with stuff like that
@Octosquid Enormously if you're riding a turkey will it always take damage for you? or does it depend on what is dealing the damage or anything like that?

Well truth be told we are still working on that one but what we can say at this time with a high degree of certainty is that it took longer than it takes the earth to perform one full rotation around its own center axis.
Rome wasn't built in one day, but it could've been built in half a day
Please be 49 minutes cause he had a really good run and not cause hes too tilted and refused to end the video until he got off the caves.

it's the best item, no doubt, but it isn't immortality
Watching him waste 4 ropes on the altar and then not sacrifice anything created physical pain
But those later plays were pretty fire tho
Same when he used 2 ropes to sacrifice a turkey when he could have tamed it to save the ropes and still make it to the altar.
Vlad’s cape doubles the amount of blood dropped. Might help you in the future when you have the Kapala
When I first got it I thought it was the crown that doubled the amount of blood dropped, but I gotta say, it's such a good buff to Vlad's Cape that I actually sorta prefer it to the Jetpack.

Pretty sure sacrifice points are saved from one reward to the next, so you don't have to save them like NL does.
You're absolutely right. The order in which you sacrifice is irrelevant.

I've been wondering for a while, but does NL think that sacrifice resets when you get a reward? That might explain why he was surprised over how fast he got the second reward in that one run.
I thought he mentioned he found out that favor carries over but I guess he forgot maybe
@@Addventurawr I can't recall, but this was recorded after that pog stream I think so it's surprising. It wouldn't be the first time he forgot a core mechanic after learning it like 2 days ago.

Carrying a double jump in his pog mitts:

Don't worry, NL; consensus is that jetpack is better, and explosion isn't very relevant, given you will usually die in a situation puts you in exploding jetpack territory.
Vlad's cape IS the second best back item next to jetpack, and is always available in same spot, unlike jetpack, which needs to show up.
EDIT: I was incorrect about being able to interchange hedjet and crown. they both work for getting to temple at minimum.

There is no consensus, or if there is from what I see people prefer vlads for the consistency / safety / extra blood versus the level design change. And not sure how you can say the explosion damage is irrelevant, it's been a run ender for so many streamers... 11 damage is nothing to snuff at.
Crown and hedjet are interchangable. NL even pulled excalibur with crown equipped in one of his own streams.

The Olmec fight and for whatever reason always jumping with the ledge on the right and rope bother being perfect for the shot is the most I think I've ever yelled at my screen at NL.
Vlad's Cape is a combo piece with the Kapala. It gives you double blood, which is much better than the risk of exploding.
I love how the end card comes up while he's all good and your like "Here it comes."

The endcard comedic timing was brilliant.
There's something incredibly satisfying about watching NL steadily improving at a game. That last run was really well-played, even if it was cut short due to a truly cursed Temple setup.

that was a spectacular run.. I could see the hurt in your face from that death and I felt soooo bad like I could feel it inside too.. Love you brother!!
it's really amusing when NL pretends to know what i'm thinking and it's in fact not even close, not even in the ballpark. it's the opposite, usually :D

When NL said jetpack was better than Vlad's cape, it made me realize that growing up in spelunky is realizing that the jetpack is not good, and NL isn't there yet.
Spelunky 2 is my first Spelunky experience so do you mind explaining that to me? Both items seem pretty good to me, maybe equal in quality.
It was more useful in the first game when generation was much more wide open and vertical and ice caves weren't just one level, but yeah I don't see many reasons to take jetpack over cape here.

@@seraphimwolf238 the big downside is that it blows up, which makes everything much more dangerous, especially the volcano. The cape really shines in areas after you can get it, and in areas that NL has not reached yet in this series. I'm not going to go into more details because I don't want to spoil anything in case you care.

I finally made it to the Duat! I died to Osiris, but I'll take it as a win lol.
Vlads cape also increases the amount of blood mobs drop then you kill them, so thats something to consider.

If you want tips, try fiddling less with the hazards. In the temple, you didn't need more gold, yet you kept breaking pots that could've contained enemies that could've hurt you. You also kept meddling with the crushing blocks when most of the time you could've just run past them and leave them be. You don't need to kill them, or send them to the other side of the level to be able reach the exit. In the ice caves, you could've just walked past that mine. Sometimes, there's no reason to clear every obstacle ahead of you or to leave nothing behind you alive.
I think he actually played the temple pretty well, you also don't want him to just run past the crushers without knowingn whats after.

Guide to the Altar reward system: Damsel is 8, humans are 6, anything with magic is 4, hermit crab, leprechaun, eggplant child, and proto shopkeeper are 0, everything else is 2. Bodies are worth half.

I'm pretty sure the order of sacrifice doesn't matter anymore.
isn't the idea that if you sacrifice 10 small things and a big thing, you'll get the cappala, but you'd get it by only sacrificing 4 small things and a big thing, so if you're being time efficient you gotta sac the big things first?
I think now it works with points and thresholds. The thresholds are 8 , 16, 24...
So the only order that matters is if you get to 16, you can sac small bodies for the blood, but thats it.
Monty is 8, so wether you sac it first or not doesn't matter for the first reward.
It never mattered, except in the case of staggering for triggering Jelly after dying on the Ice caves in 1. It's always been a points system that rolled over.
Every reward costs the same. First reward is item, second kapala, third and so forth jelly.
All rewards cost 1 damsel or 4 live bodies or 8 dead bodies. There are also other bodies that are worth more like helpers.
@@manlamp7531 A live damsel used to be 8 points in Spelunky Classic. A dead shopkeeper was 6. Etc

Hey NL, a monty is worth 4 living enemies (moles cavemen sandshrew turkey). Dead things are worth half, 2 dead montys is an item, and 8 dead enemies is an item.
Yang, Hiredhelp and Shopkeeper are 3/4th monty so one of those with an living normal enemy also is an item

honestly vlad's cape > jetpack. I love not dying because a single pixel of fire dared to even exist on the same dimension plane as me and explodes my jetpack as a result.

My 4head just figured out tusk is probably the walrus
for the olmec fight standing directly underneath him is actually safe. when he stops you can just whip his thrusters repeatedly and move out the way when he falls
Vlad's cape combos with Kapala since it gives more blood! Also you can throw any corpse into a spike pit and safely float in to nab that blood.
Also considering a lot of things deal fire damage like the spark balls, it's very risky to keep using jetpack. Cape all the way.
Isn´t there a Child of the forest down in the Ice Caves that always complains about beeing cold and having forgotten her jacket?

capes are more of a second choice... maybe third, possibly beaten by the hoverpack, depending on the situation.

Can someone tell this man Vlad's cape also doubles all blood droplets in the game? I feel like that with Kapala + every other benefit (jump,glide,guaranteed to show up) puts it above jetpack.
