I work at a tire plant. There is so much that was left out, I'm sure due to time and proprietary concerns. After curing there is a stage called final finish. That is where all tires are cleaned up from excess rubber and quality inspected. It's an amazing process to actually see.
What's the ticket for tire builders at your plant? Ticket is the term we use at our plant on how many tires a tire builder is expected to build in an 8 hour shift. Which is 175 - 228 depending on which tire.
@@duMaurier15 Unlike this video, the plant I work at is a mass production plant (2.5M sqr ft). They make passenger, truck and trailer tires. Its all done in stages. No one person builds a tire. The plant is rated at 40,000 units a day.
Definitely educational. I’ve been driving cars all my life and never knew how tires are made until now. Glad to know how they’re made. I’m sure you went through a lot of obstacles in order to produce this video. I’m aware that there exists extremists/activists who only want to exploit tires makers because of whatever they think is unfair and find it relieving that ya’ll were able to produce this video despite all that.
Goodyear isn’t near as labor intensive. I build tires for a Goodyear in Lawton Oklahoma and it’s an easy job. The machine makes all the cuts and splices.
People who cheap out on tires don't realize that they are gambling with their own safety. Just like the people who cheap out on brake pads/rotors. Spend the extra money and get good/reliable quality products. It will last longer and perform way better. You spend more intitally than bargain brands, but you save in the long run.
I inevitably run into bad weather and big storms on road trips, and I'll happily pay extra for a tire that gives me a 5% or 10% edge in safety. Good tires are well worth the money.
Honestly all tires are labor intesive. In the facility where I work, tire builders make dozens of tires an hour, but I've been to places that make competition tires and they make 3 or 4 an hour.
At 2:36, they’re applying the Bead Apex material, which helps transfer steering inputs from the bead through the tire. At 2:40, you’re indicating the wrong part of the tire. The Apex is the triangle-shaped bit that is immediately above the bead (between the fabric plies).

I just bought a new set of the Michelin Pilot sport 4 s for my Chvelle..But Im confussed with one of the tires that sent was made in Spain instead of France. The rubber is softer on the Spain tire and it don't have that smooth inner liner like the other 3 from France do.
Will tyres fit on an American vehicle ? Or must you buy tires for them ? Also, is it considered proper to put tires on say, an Aston Martin or a Range Rover instead of the tyres it came with ? I am assuming Australian vehicles also use tyres as well. And then there is the question of Japanese and Korean vehicles. Inquiring minds want to know !
Why is the plastic wrapping left on the blocks of rubber at start of processing? Does teh plastic melt and be absorbed? I'd think big pieces of plastic might cause separation or chunking?
How can a tyre manage too much friction on road? Even we get hurt when we walk on road with naked legs on a very slow speed as compared to tyres of a car.
You just wonder if all the tyres are done equally. A lot of of human work cutting up materials on to the tyre. Staff may have higher skill levels than others
As someone who builds tires I can tell you that they are not all equal. I constantly see the different levels of care and craftsmanship that go into the tires that are built. You can tell the difference in the people who care about what they are doing and the people that are just there to get a paycheck. The downside is that I don’t get to see how those differences affect the life or performance of the tires in real life.

@@youdig3691 Tread separation mainly comes from overheating the tire, which is caused by underinflation. Of course there will be the occasional instance caused by poor manufacturing. Tread doesn't get glued on, the rubber naturally sticks to itself, and once cured is completely bonded.

So when tire manufacturers dont stagger the seams apart far enough that explains why lots of weights are needed in one spot.
There is actually very little overlap in the seams. The thicker stuff is cut at an angle so the seams remain the same thickness.
