This is Tyre Reviews most in depth tire test ever. I have 6 of the very best UHP summer tires on the market in 225/40 R18 and I'll be testing each of the tires to find out which is best in the dry, the wet, which has the best comfort, which uses the least fuel, which has the longest tread life / lowest wear, which tire is the best value, which tire is best for the environment, which tire is best when it's worn, which tire is best when it's cold! Basically everything you could want to know about these 6 tires.
The tires we have in this performance tire test are:
Bridgestone Potenza Sport
Continental PremiumContact 7
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6
Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3
Michelin Pilot Sport 5
Yokohama Advan Sport V107
I don't hate Pirelli. I only had space for 6 tires and there's a new Pirelli P Zero coming soon so I didn't want to test a tire that's about to be replaced!
Any questions please ask in the comments.

Just started watching, but THANK YOU for doing what no one else does : in-depth, detailed and objective reviews. Cant imagine the time you spend producing these videos, and as usual the quality is top notch.
Here here 🍻
If anything, the subjective reviews are even more helpful, as stats on paper rarely tell the full story.
@@alexquittner3466 Absolutely agree, but since he's testing blind, he is as fair as possible. I said objective but meant more unbiased.
@@eincutr thanks
We all applaud you for the hard work you put in to help us decide on what tyres might be suitable for our own driving needs.

Fantastic! We really appreciate your effort and all the data you collected for its, it is extremely useful to us because we cannot conduct these tests. Keep up the great work!
another excellent video. I have been following your reviews via your website back when I was researching Goodyear F1 asymmetric 2. Over the years I have purchased many sets of tires for different cars I run and I never have I been disappointed by your recommendations. Your very comprehensive reviews helped me make the right tire choices for the different cars i run. love this channel.
i've been reading tyre reviews from your website for as long as i can remember and always love watching you do the tests because you rely on facts and figures. almost all my tyre choices have been because of the review you do. keep up the good work mate!
Love your work, cant wait for a newer UUHP review👌🏻
We live for this kind of videos !!! Keep it up !!!
Awesome video. Been a long time with a video with so much in-depth information. Even included an extensive Dekra-test. Well done, and as always, keep on bringing on the good stuff!
This is such a perfect test! Thank you for all the added information like tread life and rim protection!❤
Jon & team just knock it out of the park every time! I hope there's a similar forthcoming test for the North American all season version of these tires.
Thank you Jonathan for such a comprehensive and heartfelt tyre test, it's fantastic to have personal preference, real world wear testing and worn tyre performance in there.
Cheers for all the reviews, always appreciated!
Over the years your channel (and website) became my go-to source for detailed, unbiased tyre reviews. Love the in-depth opinions/descriptions as well. I chose my 3rd set of tyres based on your reviews and they were exactly as you described, I never got disappointed.
Really appreciate the wear testing, my mind was blown how well Dekra does those tests. This really gives the complete picture and impressive how good all these tyres are. As I have a habit of driving my cars on track, I will stick to my Yokohamas! Thanks a lot for the testing and the video!
That was a super comprehensive video! A very, very well done and detailed. Many thanks for the thread wear test, finely some did it the proper way. Many thanks for the video again and I look forward for watching the next one :)
You make the best tests ever. Rim protection comparison 🤩. It should be in every tire description. Thank You :)
Thanks, fantastic to get data about worn tyres. Never seen anyone else do this before, though it's something we've been wanting for a very long time.
What a review.
Little details like wheel protection are often overlooked, it’s awesome you mentioned it.
Besides that, getting us data of the amount of micro particles released, real world thread life and rolling resistance put again this channel on another league.
Bravo and keep it up!
Awesome review as always! I hope you do the same for the UUHP tyres - SportContact 7, PS4, etc. I would be really curious to see how they stack up especially in terms of wear.
This is truly the most comprehensive tyre test out there. It really covers everything and it also gives you an honest opinion of what "flavor" each tyre is so you can choose the best one for yourself based on your preference. Cheers!
Amazing stuff as always Jonathan! Much appreciated 🙏🏼
I chose the Asymmetric 6 as my tire of choice because it is the best value for money in my home country.
The work you do with that kind of materials is the wonderland we’ve needed. I really appreciate your work and keep doing what you do! :)
Thanks!
You have been such a big help for me in finding tyres for my car. I got the uuhp continental sport contact 7, amazing tyre. Thank you so much!💯
Jonathan the amount of details you gothrough and the fact that you are that invested in giving solid data and relevant information is why this is hands down the best tyre channel around. I enjoy the content you make and I truly do think you are making the difference in the traffic with your videos. The video was super informative and I appreciate the large amount of data as it is interesing and well presented. For me - I just got fitted new tyres on my 18" wheels for my 2015 Volvo XC70 and I went with Hankook S1 Evo 3 and after seeing your video I am reassured in my choice as a daily driver and my girlfriend driving it as well - I am happy about the price and performance to deliver safe characteristics to a car that is not all that interested in being chicked into corners. Cheers and I am looking forward to your next video as always! :)
The content I never knew I wanted, but always needed. Top class! Thanks for the effort you’ve put into this
Glad you enjoy it!
Nobody does tire testing more thoroughly than you. Thank you so much for the effort you put into these videos. It really helps us out so much. Keep up the great work.
Glad you find them useful!
@@tyrereviews Thanks for everything you are the best tester for me. Missing me for Pirelli P4, need to me balance and objective test with all premium segments.

great content!!! I always choose my tires following your test results!
You're an absolute legend for this review, adding the real world tread wear is brilliant. Keep up the brilliant work.
@Pop Jones .. +1. .. Agreed, "Legend of critical tire testing".
Thank you for this in-depth and through tyre test. The level of detail and enthusiasm is second to non. What would be a boring and hum-drum topic, you have made interesting and more importantly understandable. Thank you Johnathan and team for this review.
I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 5 (rear) 6 (front) in my mk7.5 GTi. I chose them through your review and also from a fellow you tuber.
My dad purchased the conti premium contact 6 from your video on them he’s happy.
Just wanted to add my thanks for this excellent test (and your website). It is such a valuable resource, I chose the Michelin PS5 for my car last year and your UHP review was a big factor in that choice. Very happy with these tyres 👍 Cheers.
Thank you for once again such a perfect test! And please - we need some video about tire pressures an how it affect oversteer, understeer, overall handling, lap times, braking, etc., i.e. 1.8 Bar, V.S. 2 Bar, v.s. 2.2 Bar, v.s. 2.4 Bar, v.s. 2.6 Bar, v.s. 2.8 Bar, etc. Thanks! ♥
Your work and dedication to tires is unmatched. Just know it’s appreciated by us crazy enthusiasts out there. 🍻
Chapeau bas! What a Great Value of a film!!! Gigantic work! Thank you!
Nice video as always, thank you for all the details !
Quality review as always
Love the Hankooks! Great grip on BMW G11, both wet and dry. Also the comfiest tires ever had on the car.
I have learned so much from you. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this test. The best I have ever watched. Now I understand the tires much better.
A thought for this channel,
Long term test data for all higher performance tyres is something I'm sure everyone can agree on we really need.
Got assymetric 6's on a Leon 140 FR last April,
Barely 8000 miles covered and only realised the other day my fronts are nearly done, couldn't believe it.
Coming from running lesser cars on lesser brands of tyres for years (shout out to toyo's T1R, a great one for the money but sadly no longer in production) and so expected a jump to a high quality brand would likely bring better tyre longevity in addition to the tangible performance benefits but I was sorely mistaken, I could get 10 to 12k out of front tyres on a sporty little mk4 ibiza with way less power so I'm gutted at the prospect of maybe changing the fronts for new as I'm not sure how much more life I can get from the front pair if I swapped them with the back pair.
Your channel is a real good welcome to the UA-cam community. Just nice and well thought out content. Yiu just got yourself a new subscriber 👌
We recently purchased a 2019 A3. Based on your previous tests, we replaced the worn out All weather tyres with Goodyear F1-A6. These tyres match so well with the car. Undercarriage, suspension, tyres are all in sync. We are blessed around here with curvey country roads and hill climbs and it is just a joy. I would normally go for Pirelli (looking forward to the new Zero) or Michelin for summer tyres but so far very pleased with the F1-A6. Enjoy your channel, keep up the good work. And happy testing. Stay safe
FYI I don't hate Pirelli. I only had space for 6 tires and there's a new Pirelli P Zero coming soon so I didn't want to test a tire that's about to be replaced! Is this your Golf used for testing or "the company car"? Reason I ask is because I would like to know what tyres you use personally. Thanks.
Even with a new tire the Pirelli is the worst tire of this without a doubt.
Dw it’ll be better but I don’t see it being top3
@@bnight2 they suck in wrc and f1 in fact
Do you think that Sport contact 7 is better than premium contact 7. I have the golf 7 gti, which one you would recommend for my car?
Not sure what's more weird, the fact that you make videos about tyres or the fact that I love watching them. 😁
Can it be both?
started watching when I wanted to figure out how to drive in snow (didn't want to just jump into it, wanted to be prepared). But I love the fact you included wear into this test, I think it elevates the quality even further (it is so very high already) and gives the viewer a sort of reference point I guess
Perfect review! Thanks for the input!
Always love your Tyre review's when the new generations arrive. In depth, informative and certainly trustworthy. I recently replace my GYE F1 Assy 5's and went for the GYE F1 Assy 6's and i love them. Been running GY's since Assy 2's, i'm happy to stay where i am with tyres. Thanks again for your time and effort in doing these reviews.
Glad you're liking the goodyears :)
Hey mate what do you think about the durability ? Does GY perform good after a long term use ?
The most comprehensive tyre tester, well done sir.
Thank you :D
@Adrian Carey .. +1.. Agreed. .. Gotta love the tire wear metrics provided by Dekra and a parade of GTIs. .. Where else do you see real-world tire wear data? .. Many thanks, Herr Jonathon (lifelong Michelin SP2 / Carrera S 993 user)
What a sensational review man. This has been very helpful. Thank you.
THE best bloody tire reviews on the net and on this planet! My firestone firehawk indy 500s are an old design from a Bridgestone way back when......wish i would have seen a review on those with these tests (I absolutely love them(. Absolutely faaaantastic reviews especially the wear tests!
Had Asymmetric 5, last summer got Asymmetric 6 on Octavia VRS, and I am super satisfied.
Great tire
Excellent handling
Sometimes i got surprised how much grip tire provides in a corner
I would highly recommend, plus price for what you get is 👌
As always, a good quality content. GoodYear is really making some excellent tires in the last few years with great balance of price vs performance and also one of the few companies to bring UUHP tires for "18/
they were doing it in the mid late 90's with eagle GSCs and eagle F1 with the ability to run on flat back i n1998
Great review! Thank you so much!
Great video once again, i have fitted the Bridgestone ps and is indeed a really fun tire and also extremely good in the rain, as for it's wear i have done 20.000 on them and the tread depth has come down to 5 mil from 6.5 when new. If your country has low grip roads it is not a problem
What car do you have them on?
Insanely detailed review! I bought the Assy 6s based on last years Summer review and super glad I did!
Glad you're enjoying them :)
Another industry-leading test thanks for the depth. Good to see so many facets that we need to consider with our tyre choice. Would be good to see a budget on this as a reference as I think some of the results would be scary. especially the value for money argument. Thanks again.
What an effort this guy puts in. Thank you Sir!
Thanks for the excellent test. And please keep the rim protection issue also your future test. I had new winter tyres without and I had not checked if there were protectors and scratched my 19” alloys at first parking. So little thing but saves money. 😂
It's on my "must do" list when testing larger sizes :
I wanted Potenza Sport but there was no size for my car and I bought the Asimetric 6. They are very good on wet but on dry they are not that grippy.
The hard side wall is great tho because the steering is direct.
Overall it's a great tire.
Big props for shoving numbers to the back of the line in describing the pros and cons of these very different tires. I have driven two similar front engined Porsches for 40 years of my driving life. Obviously the models here were not even available for almost all of that time but, interestingly, the brands show a consistent affinity for behaviors over the years and even matching your current thoughts. It is true that you can like a brand when it comes to tires.
I used Michelin, Goodyear, Continental, and Bridgestone on my cars over the years, eventually sticking with Michelin and your personal feelings about those four brands could have been my own. I’m not rich enough to use the unbelievably fast-wearing Bridgestone so that was a one-off. Contis were a one-off for me as well, no fun, fast wearing.
Goodyear and Michelin were tried many times in the same category of high performance all weather. Goodyears were big fun driving hard and were affordable at the time. I probably used a half dozen sets or more and the ‘high ledge’ character remained for them all. They were also relatively quick to turn mean (rear happy) and I loved that. Goodyears were the only tire I used in anger on a track and I was blown away by their excellent behavior at the limit. I only switched because they were loud. Michelins gave me the best of all worlds. Very high & controllable grip, great water shedding, quiet and long lasting.
Thanks so much for all the time and care you put into this.
Terrific and indepth analyses! I like your personal views supported by scientific data, and most importantly , your most impartial and independent passion for fast car lovers, well done and grateful for all your efforts
I just had two Continental Premium Contact 7 fitted to my car, based on various tests, especially with regards to wet and dry braking.
So far I'm very happy with them and it's great to see your very comprehensive test confirm my opinion.
I did buy the Assymetric 5's based on the Tyre Reviews videos a few years back .They have been amazing. Civilized on the road, wet and dry. I also use them on cold, wet, winter track days. They perform great and don't overheat and fall to pieces when the track drys out. My next tyres will be the Assynetric 6's
Ive read that the only negative of asy6 compared to asy5 is that they cant handle heat as good as the 5, never tested so i dont know.
Great job really in depth review I'm glad I opted for the Conti 7 based on your review. Saved my bacon the other day in the pissing rain when I had to do an unwanted moose test due to some numpty.
Great review. Very informative for choosing my tyres for canyon road
Once again tyrereviews comes along with the fully comprehensive SIX-WAY shootout! Another fantastic review. Really appreciate it, this will come in very useful. 👍 I already have PS5 on the front with PS4s still on the rear, and the PS5 are an improvement in both cold/winter and summer conditions, so the higher-scoring tyres must be _really_ good for UHP/summer use.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ps4s should be much more sporty than 5.
No apologies needed. As usual an excellent and objective analysis.
Thank you for all the details and dedication to make this video. Very useful information.
Great video, analysis, results, etc as always. Don't worry about lack of B-Roll ... you do an exceptional job and you just have to play the cards your dealt.
Thanks for the test, really thorough…. I’ve actually just replaced my Conti sport contacts for PS5s on one of my Abarths on 17 inch wheels. The reason being that the Contis were amazing for the first 6 months I owned them then they just got harder and harder as time went by. I’ve never had that with Michelins which I’ve always had on my Porsches, but never tried on the wee Abarth. Glad you said they are all decent so see how the PS5s go (unfortunately they don’t do a 4S in the size I need)
I had the same problem. I run 17 inch alloys and the PS4s isn't available. I wanted to stay with PS4, but they're now replaced with the PS5. I will see how i get on!
Thanks a lot for another great review! And thanks for adding the rim protection comparison, it's very interesting! 👍🏻
Also interesting to see the different physical diameter of the tyres, especially with Yokohama and Bridgestone next to the Hankook, what a massive difference!
it might be that they're stiffer tires compared to the others - which makes them sag less when standing upright? Maybe :D
@@desmondgasper not really. The physical dimensions of the tyres are different, including the width. But seeing such difference side by side is interesting.
There's an allowable window in each size tyre companies can use, some like to go narrow to put less material in the tyre, some like to go wide for grip reasons.
That brief explanation of Dekra's test was interesting. Would love to see an -in-depth video of that process one day.
As always top quality content, congrats 👍🏻
I'm currently on Asymmetric 5, was previously on Asymmetric 3 and based on this review I believe my next tyres will be Asymmetric 6.
I guess you like the Asymmetric range? :)
I am also on Asym 5 and i am super satisfied with them, but I was also thinking..maybe i want to try out PS also..just curious
You will by happy. You can feel that is the 6 is even better than the 5.
Was super impressed by AS3’s I ran on my early Boxster vs previous P Zero Nero’s, so then fitted AS5’s to my X2 replacing uncomfortable Bridgestones and again huge difference in steering feel, turn-in and overall comfort. Would love to put them on my brand new Boxster once it’s P Zero’s are done, but Porsche approval for warranty is (ridiculously) only for AS2 which is now ancient tech!
I got them last month for my RX8, they're awesome 👌
Just bought Asymmetric 6 for my 320d coupe (2007). 225/40 R18 front, 255/35 R18 rear.
I feel like I changed my car for something 5 times better in every aspect of driving. Amazing tyre.
What tyres did you use before?
@TrapShot94 Hankook ventus prime 2 run flats. Very worn (it is how i bought the car second hand). The goodyear are not run flats -> much better for comfort, for suspension life and unsprung mass.
@@paulbolintinuYeah runflats are horrible. Enjoy the tyres!
Love your work - thank you
Jonathan, this test is unprecedented.
Thank you! Simply brilliant!
One thing only: when you were showing the tires and the tread at the end I was missing the brands. Sorry! Just send the hitmen! 😂
Bravo, you are the best! 👏👏👏
Your reviews are amazing! Just got 215/45/17 bridgestone potenza sports for my alfa romeo mito based on your reviews. They completely changed the car. Loving it!
I drive Bridgestone Potenza 225/40/18 in my Alfa Romeo GT and am delighted with them, both in the dry and in the wet.
I went for PILOT SPORT 5 on mine! Hey there fellow Alfa owners!
Agree that the bridgestone potenza sport is just a monster. Everyone is slowing down in wet but I am keeping the speed. :)
Dry traction is also perfect, I owned a 71R before and I can tell the dry traction is close to 71R.
The only issue is longevity, yes it is wearing quite fast.... but I am enjoying the fun and safety so no big deal for me!
Glad you're liking them :)
Bridgestone are one of my favourites very good tyres
Excellent review/clip. many thanks
Excellent info as always
Im a Yokohama man.
I have always had them on my vehicle as they have the best steering response and handling ability.
The wet performance has also been outstanding too on the road.
Using a tyre with less steering response and turn in would feel like a downgrade.
I had my Carrera T delivered on Asymmetric tires (yeah, no PZero or PS4S...booooo), but after driving a few hundred km on them (threading lightly, as the car/engine needs a proper run in), I am quite pleased with their performance.
If I had to compare them to something form my past experience...I would say they remind me of the Pilot Super Sport, a lot. Just that the Goodyear are a little better in the rain and even quieter.
Just a suggestion: if you ever have the opportunity, a "comparison test" between the PZero, Asymmetric and PS4S on a 992 would bring down the internet. The interest is huge regarding this.
Bridgestone for me. I don't mind spending money on tires. Wet performance and wheel protection is what I need. If I change it every 20k road use, that complies my personal requirement. I also use s22's on my motorbike for 60k km(third pair). Got a good vibe with this brand overall.
It's a great tyre!
Thank you for the best tire reviews in the Internet!
Thank you for such a thorough, detailed review.
Particle testing is super interesting!
It's going to only get bigger!
I was all ready to go for the Pilot Sport 5, but after watching this twice I think I'll be going for the Eagle F1 based on the combination of their performance and the rim protection.
Thanks for doing such a thorough review!
Totally same. I was ready to buy PS5, but after watching I ordered GoodYears (UPDATE: very good sport tyre, safe, but if you want it could be fun tyre)
Yeah ps5 rim protection is so awful. Why they do this is beyond me. It even looks better with rim protector
I got the asymmetric 6 for my wifes car 1 year ago. 520d M Sport.
Excellent tyre and perfect for the car.
As mentioned rim protection is Excellent and has saved the rims several times already 😂
@@indyrock8148how is the tread wear? Lots of people say that the Asymmetric 6 wears out very fast 🤔
@milandajic7168 they have done about 9000 km and still look new. Wearing very evenly.
My guess is I'll get at least 30 to 40 k km like any of these sort of tyres.
They are staggered fitting on this vehicle so rotating is more limited.
I'm expecting 4 years. Which is my preference not to let them get too old because where I live by 6 years they're well knackered.
If it was a square set up and they are well aligned and rotated frequently I'd expect 40 to 50 + k km. Depending.
Overall I'm expecting better than average wear from a UUHP.
If your worried about wear then none of the UUHP tyres are your cup of tea.
So far for price, performance and wear I rate these tyres very highly and recommend them. In heavy ex TC rain they are excellent.
From my personal experience, in terms of driving dynamics they are just a bit below a GY Super Sport or Conti SC7. Which I have on other vehicles.
They are well ahead of PS4 (NOT s), which I also have and never liked. Light years better.
If your considering a PS 4 or 5 for longer life, or just cheaper, just go look at something like a Falken 510/520 or Hankook EVO 3. Or even kumho ps71. Or Conti PC7 is excellent.
Phenomenal work - well done and thank you
Impressive work, I was really close to just pick just a random name brand tire for my weekend car. This helped me a lot and changed my choice from Hankook to Goodyear Eagle F1.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
My RS3 came with the Potenza Sports stock and I tracked them. You're spot on your analysis compared to my experience with them. I might have had them over-inflated a bit, but yeah, they drove great, were fast, but self destructed in the process. Lasted about 15 sessions and all tires were chunking everywhere. I regret not saving them for street only use.
I'm impressed you got 15 sessions out of them!
@@tyrereviews Haha. I probably should have stopped sooner. My Focus RS on MPS4S had 30+ and still had life in the tires, so I was a bit disappointed with the Potenzas. Though that car isn't quite as fast.
I've seen pictures from other cars of these tyres doing the same. Seems to be a special feature. Consider the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport, good on road and track, wet or dry.
Did you do yourself a favor and get those Michelin PS4S for the RS3?
@@sp6450 On my street wheels yeah. Track tires are V730s.
Pilot Sport 5 results leave me even more excited for forthcoming S5.
Me too!
This is a wonderful test, thank you very much! You mentioned all the necessary information. Thank you also for mentioning the rim protection. 👍🏻
Thanks!
A great review as always
It seems goodyear increased their prices, they usually score very high on value because of low wear and lower price, compared to Michelin and Continental, but even in other categories it seems that their value dropped because of the increase in price
They still seem to be the best overall though
I put Dunlop sport maxx on our Volvo XC70. I do mixed driving of city, few country roads and many motorways including in Europe. Dunlops were handling brilliantly but since it’s such a soft tyre it only lasted for 6k miles. After that I changed to Continental SC6 and very happy with them. So far have done 20k miles with plenty of thread still left on them. At the time both tyres were sama price at £155 per tyre(18 inch XL/SUV rated).
Top vid as always. Great addition with the real-world wear test.
Great review, as always! Really awesome, thank you. You're making my tire choosing a lot easier. I now have Asym 5, spring come my choice is Asym 6.
Living in Latvia, I felt tears coming to my eyes when I heard "Cause normally it's wet in winter" :D
But thanks for your work and effort you put into performing those tests and making videos. Thanks to your insights, I've completely changed my approach to tire choice and finally I'm happy and 100% sure of what I chose and why. I hope this season will bring the life of the stock Michelin Primacy 4 to an end so I can replace them with Goodyear Asymmetric.
But I have a question: your review of the handling balance is based on front-wheel driven Golf. How will it translate to a rear-wheel driven car? Will the tires that tend to give Golf oversteering make a rear-wheel driven car oversteer too much?
Lithuanian here, winter is a sludgy mess here as well
Yes, interested to see the front left of all tyres!
I'll post something on insta tomorrow or wed!
