Is there any worry of lag bolt head splitting the bottom of the 6x6 post.? Was the post measure from the bottom saddle up or from the lag bolt head up? They're what? 1/2 inch?
I was just thinking you could have sistered two 2x6 on each side and then a 2x4 between each of the 2x6 and not had to remove the 4x4 as you did. Just another option for those that are considering doing this. If the original 4x4 was rotten, then of course change it, but they way you did it is probably cheaper than my method.
