    I bought my 66 new when I came out of the service in 65 and found my truck steers so easy I never needed PS. Still driving it after all these years.

      Yep, the old pizza cutter bias ply tires worked well together as a simple pick up truck. However today guys are dropping big blocks or LS Swaps in, fat radial tires up front for better traction in the corners may be more desirable when HP quadruples and power steering goes well with the higher performance packages.
      I too have a factory manual steering ‘66, factory 283….. the steering isn’t an issue with stock power and using the old pick as originally intended. I agree with you 100%

    Hey can you use a steering box off of a 4x4 frame for the 66 c10 or does it have to be a 2 wheel drive unit?

    @shortcutgarage awesome little how to, I am halfway through my power steering install I started last night, I did the Captain Fab bracket and am just waiting on my new steering box. The one I had I found out was for a 4x4.. so stuck waiting on a refurbed one. I mounted up the pump and all last night and was going to go to a local parts store for hoses but cant find them without special order. Any insight on where you picked yours up? Potentially a part number? I heard you say they were pretty cheap in the vid but didnt catch where.

    Could you please send me the name of where you purchased your steering kit. Also I would like to know what front end will fit my 1966 c10 short box. Thanks very much bruce mussmann

    • @shortcutgarage
      @shortcutgarage  Рік тому +1

      Hi Bruce, lots of folks just swap a Squarebody front end in it, 73-87 style.
      As for me I swapped in a an adapter plate to allow me to use a Squarebody steering box and I kept the factory front suspension.
      The steering box adapter I used came from Capt’n Fab. I see the world has copied his design and sell under many different names but I can’t vouch for those, only this.

    Awesome video! My dad would like to put power steering on his 1963 GMC. Problem is I can't find pulleys for his 305 V6. And what about the idler arm? Some kits come with new arm and relocation due to a change in steering geometry.

      What the issue? Too long? Too short? Wrong taper?

  • @smallmouthfreaks7609
    @smallmouthfreaks7609 2 роки тому

    Only thing I would caution is drilling holes thru the shaft. It will remove too much material leaving thin walls on the shaft potentially causing a breaking point.
