- Overall, this years all-star game is projecting to be a great showcase of all of the best talent around the league. However, did some players slip through the cracks? You bet your biscuits. These are some of my biggest SNUBS and some of the replacements I would make.

If Lindor finishes top 10 in MVP again this year it’ll be the first time ever a player has had 3 consecutive top 10 MVP finishes with no Allstar appearances
Defense is looked upon way more favorably in end of seasons results. If Lindor wins a GG again he will 100% be a top 10 MVP voting. He just provides so much value.
he didnt deserve to finish top 10 in MVP either of the last two years. he has been great with the glove but his bat has been subpar for MVP votes. a sub-.800 OPS isn't good enough regardless of defensive talent.

I'm all for adding a utility spot as long as it's ONLY used for true utility guys. That would be such a badge of honor to get that spot. It would be like winning 6th man of the year in the NBA. Instant respect from everyone, acknowledgement of the importance of the role, and real recognition of the difficulty of being that guy.

define utility. two positions? 3 positions? must have an outfield and infield position? catcher + another spot that isnt 1B? im all for that idea but i feel MLB will find a way to stretch the term utility or finds a way to call a guy like Tatis or Harper a utility based on past years
@@baileysmith4744 yeah that was what I was thinking. It should be called the Zobrist spot and it should always be that kind of player. Maybe Ben Zobrist could be recruited to select the honoree and then it becomes a selection committee after that made up of all the previous winners. An ad hoc utility players hall of fame.
@@yawnberg. absolutely. the Cardinals had a few guys over the years who could have filled that spot (Edman and Donovan especially with how good their gloves are), and Zobrist is a perfect example of a utility
Christian Walker got snubbed, and Joc Pederson is also having a good year.
For each league, it should be:
10 best starting pitchers
6 best relief pitchers
2 best position players
And then it should be if a team doesn’t have a representative. No one should be snubbed from being an all-star because a team needed someone to represent them.

The problem with Reese is that if the Tigers were to get a 3rd All Star, I think Flaherty would be the next one up
Trevor Megill has been amazing this year and probably should've made it over Strahm, but I think Strahm playing for the Phillies makes him way more likely to make it over Megill.
strahm has a better whip in more innings more ks and their era’s are .01 apart. i see no problem with strahm making it
when Gilbert phoned his parents he said Muñoz was probably going too, I think the plan was always to replace him with Andres given they would’ve already known he couldn’t pitch based on the schedule of his starts
I find it funny how someone in the chat said Riley Greene was undeserving, but no one said a thing about Jarren Duran. They're both deserving, but their stats are similar enough to where I'm not sure how you can say one deserves it but not the other.
Wait...if you put in Walker for Pete (which I totally agree with) then you have to put in a Met. Lindor and Nimmo have been good but who would they replace? (Or who would replace who is a better way of asking I guess)
Brother you gotta look at defense too, Turang has over 5 times the WAR of Arraez. Cool, Arraez hits a lot of singles but that’s all he does, Turang is 3rd in the entire national league in WAR, second in the MLB in stolen bases and is probably coming home with a gold glove this year. He’s darn near an MVP candidate let alone an All Star.
I assume you don’t watch the reds that often, Trev. As a Reds fan, I think you’re too harsh on Elly. I think he’s deserving of the All-Star nod, in part bc he’s an amazing defender. He hasn’t evolved fully yet as a hitter, you’re right he has more maturing to do, but he’s come such a long way from last year, and his strikeouts aren’t as big of an issue as people make them out to be bc he also walks at a decent clip. And I don’t think you can invalidate his stolen base prowess by saying he gets caught a lot. I think this year, he’s been caught 8 times, stolen 45 bases, that’s a 90% success rate. Value wise, I think he’s very deserving of the all star. Not necessarily more than anyone else (Lindor absolutely deserves a roster spot too), but I think you’ve gone a little too far in the “hasn’t lived up to the hype” pool if you legitimately don’t think he deserves the AS nod

Blanco didn’t use sticky stuff, he had rosin on his non pitching hand, which was odd to boot him for seeing he was checked and clean the first few innings of that game and shoving
Andres Munoz is as clear a snub as there is. The amount of 4+ out saves he’s gotten alone should get him in. You look at his actual stats and it’s a joke he wasn’t included
Rooker should be in the HR derby let alone an all star. This would give him a chance to increase his name value for when he most likely gets traded next month to a bigger market

Realistically Elly should swap Bohm for 3B starter and Lindor replaces turner entirely. So Lindor is starting at SS and Elly at 3B and send Bohm to reserve. Turner missed 40 games, regardless that's too much time to make an AS, not to mention a starter.

my biggest case for Josh Smith is that he's leading the Rangers in bWAR (3.3)
Ellys stats are just... better than Lindors. Saying Elly hasn't hit his stride yet doesn't really matter for a half season award when he's still just been better. Can he be better? Yea. Has he already had a better first half? Also yea.

If they wanted a Yankee bullpen arm they should’ve picked Luke Weaver over Clay Holmes. More Innings, more strikeouts, lower WHIP and ERA.

- Cole Ragans (should be Jack Flaherty)
Flaherty should not go over Ragans. At best it's pretty close but I don't see what edge Flaherty has over Ragans.
@@sale7423. flaherty has a better ERA, ERA+, K%, and BB%, and his WHIP is so much better than Ragans. the only edge Ragans has is last years results (which dont matter one bit) and the fact that he has more innings
@@baileysmith4744 The difference between Ragans and Flaherty's era is pretty minimal (.03 difference) and the difference in BB and WHIP is more because of Ragan's pitching style rather than any lack of command on his part so it really shouldn't be indicative of him being better or worse than Flaherty. Volume is still really important given that Ragans also has alot strikeouts overall than Flaherty.
@@sale7423. pitching style? the fuck does that have to do with being an all star? fact of the matter is he walks more guys and gives up more runs. yes Ragans has more volume, and volume does matter for end of season awards, but 3 starts difference going into the all star game is not that big of a deal, and Flaherty averages more innings per start than Ragans. Ragan's strikeout rate is lower than Flaherty's as well, he only has more total strikeouts because he made all his starts this year. if this was an MVP race id understand your logic behind accumulative stats, but Skenes is starting for the NL with half as many games and innings as either guy
@@baileysmith4744 Ragans walks more guys but he sure as hell doesn't give up more runs. Flaherty barely leads in innings per start, and Ragans has actually pitched 7 complete innings 3 times whereas Flaherty hasn't once this season. Volume absolutely does matter if you're comparing two pitchers, and the fact that Ragans is maintaining similar stats with Flaherty at more volume should definitely be a factor.

Arraez and De La Cruz may not have the OPS numbers but a game where no one steals and no one gets hits is kinda boring, and the pitching is supposed to be stacked. having a guy who can pencil in hits and another guy who will be stealing if he gets on is a great addition. not every all star needs to have lots of homers and high OPS numbers

francisco is the only person in the list of top 10 players in MLB based on fwar that didn't make the team and he's ranked #7. the only NL shortstop that outranks francisco rn is, ironically, elly. it's definitely fair to say he's been snubbed when this will be the third time in four seasons where he'll be the most valuable player based on fwar to not make the all-star team.
lindor is moreso just kinda screwed over by the asg system itself. mookie and trea were both voted in by fans and cj and elly are both the best player on their team and their team's only representatives. they're not going to put 5 shortstops on the roster even if lindor is objectively a better player than others who made the team in other positions (like pete alonso who will be the mets' only rep, for example)
they aren't all star snubs when every team must be represented, and the starters are voted by fans.

Trea Turner doesn't deserve the starting spot, It should've been between Elly and Mookie, if he was healthy, and Lindor should've been the injury replacement for Mookie. Turner is playing great but he's played half the amount of games as everyone else.
