Thanks for the detailed video. My son got a yard sale Yamaha quad that is missing some of the carbeurator parts and also was sitting a long time. I know nothing about it, but am learning through UA-cam University, so hopefully I can get the thing running. This was helpful.
This video helped me so much. I'm not very mechanical. You did a great job covering everything which is what someone like me needs. I will be putting everything back but was wondering if you used a gasket adhesive when you put everything back on? I have a 95 yamaha warrior.
your honda should have a very similar carb to this one! just be careful and take your time. get a good service manual and read the steps carefully. record a video or picture of everything before you take it apart so you can see how it will go back together. thanks for watching
Truly excellent video! We are having a problem with that same rod, which I think you call the throttle plunger. Ours is that gas leaks around it and pours through the throttle mechanism cover. We seem to be missing the black plastic or rubber piece I see in your video that is perhaps a seal that the rod goes through. Also, is there supposed to be a spring that pushes the rod up to meet the plastic cam in the throttle mechanism cavity? Neither of those things came in our carb rebuild kit. Where could we get them from?
I have a 98 warrior and I have been putting 2 stroke gas in ever since I got it which was 3 years ago the owner befor said it was a 2 stoke it's been running fine ever since about a month ago then I found out that it's supposed to be 4 stroke and it's never blown out smoke until about a month ago I put regular gas in it and now it runs better than ever
The stuck accelerator pump! I've rebuilt my carb 3 times over the last 6 years and missed that on EVER video I've watched. Mine would run ok but fall out and die when going full throttle from a dead stop
Hey man I have a 87 warrior and I was wondering how I could make it go faster with the stock engine what do you think I could do to make it go 70-75 thanks
KingBiggie 88224 without tearing it apart and spending a lot of money a pipe, jetting and air intake are going go be the only thing I suggest. probably, yes. I think you just need to swap flywheels also but better check with someone else on here first who has actually done it before buying parts to be sure.
Man, how much strength does it take to remove the idle jet? Of course I stripped the top and won't be able to screw it out. Hopefully I didn't ruin the entire thing. What would be the best plan of attack? Drill it out somehow? Wedge something into the idle hole and try to turn it again? Obviously the jet is trashed now but dang....
After taking it off the bike (carb) and putting it back on after cleaning, I noticed I’ve lost some length to my throttle cable (even maxed out on length) and now it ALWAYS has throttle. I had to twist the carb off the throttle line, not the other way around like you did because my line had NO twist to it (stiff, then spun right back to original position). Do you think I could have twisted the throttle cable somewhere in the sheath and lost some length somehow? Have you ever heard of that happening? The new carb has a slightly different throttle linkup, but not enough to explain the amount of length I’ve lost
Great video and VERY USEFUL !! But I noticed that you have a DG exhaust. Did you change the pilot and main jet size to make itrun correctly ? I have a 2000 350 Warrior that ran great with a partial original exhaust. (open header) I purchased a new DG exhaust with the spark arrester, first gear is fine...second gear and above, it falls on its face. Its all original with no carb rebuild.Any solutions you have ? Thanks, Shawn
Whats the piece called where the throttle cable connects to the carb ? The throttle cable slides threw it into the carb . I can see it on the thumbnail its a bent little pipe with a threaded end rite ontop of the choke stick
Main jet and its tube should be able to see through. The tube that the slide needle drops into all need to be removed and it's air holes cleaned. Their is an air passage through the carb that needs to be cleaned or insured that it has no blockage. It can only be seen or cleaned once the slide/needle receiving frame is pulled. Air passages are rare to get plugged unless you run with no air filter or the engine has backfiring from air cut off diaphram circuit failure.
I have 1988 yamaha moto 4 350. Your demo appears to have a hole all the way thru pilot jet screw. My jet screw has a hole but does not appear to go all the way thru. The bottom of screw is solid brass ?????
I have a 2004 it Idols but stalls when giving gas but it works when the choke is pulled out a little is this a jet or a accelerator problem was going to try to rebuild it
Could be either. It sounds like the jets are just clogged. Take a fine wire and make sure you can see light through them. Nice round hole with no particles clogging the flow. Choking it just adds more fuel so she is not getting enough fuel. Also check your fuel cap make sure it is venting or it will not let enough fuel down the petcock. There is also a tiny filter inside your tank right above the petcock fuel valve.
My main jet is missing that plastic piece that it sits on top you didn't talk about that how important is it. Could that be the cause of my bike not taking that gas it will idle all day
TrailBlogger my 89 has no piston type accelerator pump as later model mikuni carbs. I tested the orifices from bowl to choke circuit and found that circuit is only for choke. So it's then logical that any fuel needed for a snap of the throttle to WOT would come from the main circuit and possible supplemented with the idle circuit.
TrailBlogger finally found the info on the diaphram and how it works. When engine is under deceleration the vacuum pressure is increased greatly between the carb, which is closed, and engine. This vacuum increase pulls the diaphram outward against the spring and its plunger then moves outward and overs an air passage port which then increases the vacuum at the idle circuit. That momentary low pressure area created allows the fuel from the high pressure side idle circuit to move into the carb throat. This slight enrichment is what stops the backfiring/ popping within the area between intake valve and the closed carb. This backfiring in this area is most likely a great reason why the intake boot on so many machines fail! The small explosions of lean fuel, when air cut off is not working, creates more internal pressure than the rubber coated intake can handle.
Compression test time. Get yourself a compression tester ( Bosch makes decent ones for 40-50 bucks ). Get a service manual and look up the specs for your quad. Should tell you if the top end is toast. Could be the valves or rings or both.
With the engine off push the throttle in and then quickly release it. Does the slide clack back down nice and solid? It's the cable is bound up a little it can cause that. Lube your throttle cable. Check it again. Should be a nice crisp throttle release and you should hear it snap back shut inside. If it doesn't your slide or cable could be goobered up. Also check your intake boot for cracks, air leaks.
TrailBlogger thank you so much, I’m fixing it right now😂 the slide clacks down like it should and I just changed the intake boot, im ganna try lubing the cable.
You may need to turn the idle down a bit or adjust the mix screw but if it ran fine before I would check the cable first and make sure it's not adjusted too tight or sticking like I mentioned. The cable should have just a tiny bit of slack in it when you let off. (You adjust the idle at the carb, not at the handlebar)
Any thoughts on what would cause the engine to fall on it's nose when the throttle is snapped from idle to WOT! Anything other than the obvious dirty jets. I went through the carb very meticulously. Only found a damaged O ring in the pilot screw assembly, 2 of the ten air holes in the main needle emulsion tube. It spits fuel back out the Venturi when the throttle is snapped. If ya immediately cover the Venturi with two fingers it recovers. Could there be an issue with intake to tight? When throttle is eased into wot there is no problem, only from idle to wot.
on our 88 it ran like poop until i chopped the two wires going to the clutch perch safety switch and twisted them together. i showed it in one of these videos
Carb kits are usually about 20 - 30 bucks on eBay or Amazon. Rocky mountain atv is also a good place to look for parts. I'd just clean it first though. Usually it's a clogged pilot jet or the float valve. Both can be cleaned without the kit and just a little carb cleaner. If your gaskets are bad or the seal around the pilot is had you will have issues. What's it doing when you try to start it?
@@ronmurdock8897 have you checked for air leaks around the rubber intake boot? Did you try turning up the idle? On this one I had to bypass the safety switch on the clutch perch by twisting the wires together.
I actually got it to start yesterday after my last comment and it idled high af but seemed ok then it wouldn’t idle down at all I turned the idle down I pulled the choke and everything it just wouldn’t die so I’m getting ready to go mess with it some more in a min
Two throttle cables ? What year was that warrior ? My 01 has only one cable but 2 levers linked together like locomotive wheels or a holley double pumper. Is this normal ?
Where the hell doe the little 5 inch black breather hose go on the top back carb? Been trying to find there everywhere. I see a little tab with a hole in it? Does it just go in there?
@trailblogger I got a dumb question lol...my first time working on my warrior or atv period and I wanna know does the hose from the fuel cap run downs to the carb or is it suppose to be short and just hang there cause It kinda look like it should go somewhere or is it just a vent hose?
The gas cap vent hose goes forward down below your bars by the steering stem. It needs to remain unplugged or the tank won't let fuel run out properly. Think about when you put your finger over the end of a straw how the soda gets trapped inside until you let your finger off the end. The venting allows it to drain correctly.
hey man do you know where to buy a accelerator pump plunger ? we just got my dads 94 warrior back that was stolen 6 years ago in bad shape. the plunger was completely siezed even after soaking in a gallin of carb clean for weeks. ended up breaking the rode off it. hoping i can use a small drill bit & run a screw in to get the bottom out. but, i cannot find the plunger anywhere. these carbs are around $350 new & the quad just isnt worth putting that much into it. if i cant get it out ill need a bowl & plunger both but, im pretty sure i can get it out.
Bryan Roupe , I bought a brand new carb on amazon prime for under $50. Used it for parts as I had the same problem. Throttle linkup was SLIGHTLY different so I’m going to just use the bowl from the new carb and the new pump (since the pump seized in the bowl)
3:58 what is that piece called where you’re unscrewing the throttle cable end from???????? Please somebody i over tighted mine and the whole threaded part broke off
Can you help if you know? When I have the gas line turned on my grizzly it will not start with or without choke but if i turn the gas line off it starts and runs until the gas in the bowl is empty then it cuts out. Do you know anything I can do to fix it?
take the fuel line off the carb and turn the gas on. does it flow unrestricted? some quads have a tiny filter inside or fuel take or the petcock can get clogged with junk. I would start there then if that does not fix the problem clean the carb and make sure you clean the needle valve seat or replace it entirely with a carb rebuilt kit (needle and seat). makes certain your pilot is not clogged up. also make sure the gas tank cap is venting or it will not let the gas flow properly out the bottom.
@@trailblogger I did it like you showed in the video, problem is it will idle but when you give it gas it cuts out really bad but is ok at the top end. Also its extremely rich running
@@cameroncassel994 are there a couple of safey wires near your parking brake on the handlebars? mine was running horrible until I bypassed the safety switch
Quick question for anybody i have an 04 warrior i dont have a throttle cable on the top of my carburetor is that normal or is that only for older models
Most of them only have one throttle. I'm posting a video soon, later this week maybe that shows it with the single cable. I was surprised to see the dual cable setup.
Would anybody have any idea of why my blasters crankcase is being filled with gas I leave my gas line off over night I checked the needle seat and valve floats are set what could it be?
Well u replied and subbed back(thx) so hear my story..got this sick aluminum gokart with a warrior 350cc in a trade..carb was spitting out fuel through top fuel vents(thx again)..took it apart after watching this vid with no fear...had some gunk..cleaned out...runs perfect..YOU ROCK!
@trailblogger ya looks like someone already put a pen spring in it I did the steel wool around it a bit and I guess that worked alright still having issues with it idling though and running hot Im thinking a timing issue and what not

Think about when you put your finger over the end of a straw how the soda gets trapped inside until you let your finger off the end. The venting allows it to drain correctly.
There is usually a little hole by the stock plastics that comes with the quad but it gets thrown away.
hey man do you know where to buy a accelerator pump plunger ? we just got my dads 94 warrior back that was stolen 6 years ago in bad shape. the plunger was completely siezed even after soaking in a gallin of carb clean for weeks. ended up breaking the rode off it. hoping i can use a small drill bit & run a screw in to get the bottom out. but, i cannot find the plunger anywhere. these carbs are around $350 new & the quad just isnt worth putting that much into it. if i cant get it out ill need a bowl & plunger both but, im pretty sure i can get it out.
Bryan Roupe , I bought a brand new carb on amazon prime for under $50. Used it for parts as I had the same problem. Throttle linkup was SLIGHTLY different so I’m going to just use the bowl from the new carb and the new pump (since the pump seized in the bowl)
If you are looking for oem parts can't go wrong with Rocky Mountain ATV under their oem parts finder
3:58 what is that piece called where you’re unscrewing the throttle cable end from???????? Please somebody i over tighted mine and the whole threaded part broke off
The throttle cable adjuster?
Im having problems were my tubes go bc theres a tube that leaks gas
What's the carb repair kit part number
Im posting another video soon with the carb rebuilt kit included. sorry for the delay 4 months later lol
I just did a rebuild on my carb, I have a 1992 Yamaha big bear 350. Now it has major issues trying to get it to run. No power whatsoever. I am lost
Take it apart and do it again you did something wrong
@@trailblogger I wish that was the case, the owner before me forgot a few things and trying to find a detailed diagram is another story
rocky mountain atv parts diagram? is the float level set right?
@@trailblogger I did it like you showed in the video, problem is it will idle but when you give it gas it cuts out really bad but is ok at the top end. Also its extremely rich running
@@cameroncassel994 are there a couple of safey wires near your parking brake on the handlebars? mine was running horrible until I bypassed the safety switch
Having trouble getting in neutral
sometimes it is just the screw, at least on the banshee
Quick question for anybody i have an 04 warrior i dont have a throttle cable on the top of my carburetor is that normal or is that only for older models
Most of them only have one throttle. I'm posting a video soon, later this week maybe that shows it with the single cable. I was surprised to see the dual cable setup.
@@trailblogger i understood the video and its how ima rebuild my carb thank you for the tutorial but the top cable did throw me off
@@GGSWITCHBLADE what is weird is I am working on an all original blue 87 warrior now and it has the single cable only.
How did it go? Get her going again?
Would anybody have any idea of why my blasters crankcase is being filled with gas I leave my gas line off over night I checked the needle seat and valve floats are set what could it be?
Where do the top 2 fuel lines go?
they are just vent lines for air. they need to stay open.
Thx friend!..u get a sub for helping!
glad I could help!
Well u replied and subbed back(thx) so hear my story..got this sick aluminum gokart with a warrior 350cc in a trade..carb was spitting out fuel through top fuel vents(thx again)..took it apart after watching this vid with no fear...had some gunk..cleaned out...runs perfect..YOU ROCK!
hey man, that's awesome to hear. glad the video helped out.
My pump moves up and down freely until I put it back together and then it sticks almost like the o ring is stopping it or something
Bit of fine grit hone the outside smooth and clear the hole with a tiny wire brush, upgrade the spring to one from a bic pen
@trailblogger ya looks like someone already put a pen spring in it I did the steel wool around it a bit and I guess that worked alright still having issues with it idling though and running hot Im thinking a timing issue and what not
@@michaelpresey2273 well your plunger could be buggered or the hole wallered out. Carb kits sometimed include the new plunger
great video very informative, more informative then my damn local yamaha shop. fuckers tried to charge me $500 for a simple tune up on the carb. trying to play me like some idiot... *insert eye roll*

Just remove the whole box as a whole with the boot on it it's less work
