- Roy Orbison only the loneĺy reaction music video. This man has one of the greatest and most recognisable voice in music!
He has also had a very hard time in life and been very unlucky in his private life.
Never the less we try to remember Roy for all the great moments and happiness he has given us with timeless music.
Enjoy the classic Only the lonely Orbison reaction.
This song was nominated as "The Loneliest Song"
Roy was an amazing person as well as musician. This was a very special concert with many great musicians he mentored. I saw Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Rait, Jackson Browne, J. D. Souther, Jennifer Warren, k. d. Lang, Elvis Costello, and Tom Waits. I am sure there were more I couldn't pick out. He was much beloved. RIP Roy Ornison
Jennifer Warnes not Warren. Awesome backing band. If you watch the full concert you can tell that Bruce Springsteen missed the rehearsals.
Elvis Presley was asked who sings better than himself? Without hesitation, he stated Roy Orbison!
I thought I was the only one who knew that. Actually, I thought it wasn't true. Thanks.
Elvis was asked to do a duet with Roy and he declined. He said something like "I cannot hold a candle to him..."
Actually, during an interview E was asked how it felt to be the best male singer in the world. Without hesitation, E replied, "You'd have to ask Mr. Roy Orbison about that."
@@nancyscott9582 Yes, that's how I heard it.
And that is Elvis’s band playing behind Roy
The best voice ever. Saw him in concert a year before he passed away. He got a standing ovation after every song.
Roy Orbison, knew, during HIS lifetime, that his fellow musicians, artists, and singers loved and appreciated him, and he was admired by his fans, so that must have brought a bit of joy into his life of sadness.
Running scared and crying are absolute must
The smoothest voice in all of rock n roll.
A lifetime favorite of mine. This song and his vocal range!
I was lucky to see him twice in Seattle. Pure voice and such a nice human being. RIP Sweet Roy
There's not another like him, he's one of the greats
Listen to a song he wrote after the tragedies in his life “In Dreams”......incredible lyrics....incredible performance.....
Great song.
my fav song I know what he means i dream about my family members who are no longer with me a lot
The voice of this man can only be defined as "haunting". I always get goosebumps and feel cold even though it's not cold outside
Roy Orbison's life is proof of how powerful addiction is. When you can have anything you want & your popular & talented & yet you still cant beat addiction its proof that addiction is not a mental thing you can over come.
Another great song from Roy Orbison! Love it!
Great song great singer royorbison was great a legend
Thank-you for your heart felt words about this man !
Thank you for reacting to this video and to Roy Orbison. Too many people today do not recognize this magnificent voice and individual.
Literally a tear in my eye.
Your prologue; thanks for sticking up for us rationalists
On the last frame of the song I spied a young k.d.Lang the smiling face to the right. Unless I'm mistaken. We were friends before she expanded into the crooner she became. She hit the clubs in Vancouver and we were her cheering squad at the Railway Club. The owners were so impressed by her performance that night that they put her into the Commodor a great place with a sprung dance floor. She knocked them over there too and was on her way.
Roy Orbison was a real gift to music.
Roy Orbison is a hero. Anyone who can translate such tragedy into creative energy and music must be a a hero.
ai was 10 or 11 and LOVED this song in my brother's record collection he'd listen to them with mw. He's still a sport!
I agree with you 100%...there definitely doesn't seem to be any kind of balance in this world
Roy was the greatest singer\songwriter of all time! His voice and music is incomparable! Nobody could touch him!
Roy had a lot of tragedy in his life. His wife died in a motorcycle accident in 1966 and two of his kids died in a house fire, resulting in him no longer attending funerals. There is a story, don't know if it is true or not, that Elvis was asked what it was like to have the best voice in rock and roll. He responded, I don't know, ask Roy Orbison.
Roy was Elvis' ' favorite singer yes. And Elvis once sad Roy had the vice of angel.
They were both gone to soon
God bless you Harri, you understand music!
One of the best from the great man. The entire concert is well worth listening to-rarely a finer group of backing performers in the history of rock music. I also agree about your summary of life events- arbitrary events and unfairness is the often the rule regardless of the worth of the individual.
When Roy was being
interviewed after the tragedies in his life, he said that he was a Christian and that he would see his family again. He seemed to be a true man of faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ.
I agree w/you Harri, heaven is a pipe-dream.
A great song to check out is Not Alone Anymore, by Traveling Wilburys. Orbison’s vocal talent is featured and highlighted by Jeff Lynne’s production skills. A testimony to Orbison is the reaction of Dylan, Petty, Lynne, And George Harrison to having Roy join them in the Wilburys. These superstars couldn’t believe their luck in getting Roy’s voice.
Yeah, Jeff Lynne said he had always wanted to produce, and write songs for Roy Orbison; in the documentary, you can see how happy Jeff is, to be finally working with Roy- same goes for the rest of the band, who just seemed in awe at the things Roy could do with his voice.
With that amount of sheer talent, I doubt there will ever be another Roy Orbison, or Traveling Wilburys.
Early days, Lennon was obsessed with Roy Orbison.
The orb - what an amazing voice
I enjoy this, thank you
I agree with you Harri you are right about some people!!!
I also noticed Bonnie Raitt and Elvis Costello playing with. Nice back up, that! Thanks Harri!
Elvis said Roy Orbison is the only singer he would not sing after in a show.
I really like this song and also your great attitude.
Roy. Yes. Thank you, HarriBest! This is from A Black and White Night - 1988. The backup band is made up of the finest all-stars in the industry. Brilliant and timeless.
would have so loved to have heard Roy sing with the late Jay Black and he did have a lot of pain in his life lost his first wife in an accident and then two of his kids in a house fire
Brilliant… 👍
Roy started out singing rockabilly, starting out on the tiny Je-Wel label in his homestate of Texas, quickly moving to the more well known (now legendary) Sun Records in Tennessee. But Roy really hit his stride once he moved to Monument Records. What a voice!
Harry Roy was a Travelling Wibury and features on Not alone any more with another member George Harrison. It was a late 80s superstar band
One of his saddest songs was Southbound Jerico Parkway ........ a song about suicide and the family aftermath.
your words are full of wisdom and truth. May God bless you, sir. :)
I was lucky enough to see him in concert around 1980. Amazing voice.
You will love all of them. My favorite is IN DREAMS.
Roy had such an amazing talent. Please check out Linda Ronstadt’s cover of one of his most beautiful songs, “Blue Bayou”. She is amazing. Also, kd lang did a beautiful duet with Roy as they redid his classic song, “Crying”. It will take your breath away. Actually, she is one of the three female backup singers in this performance. The amount of talent on the stage in this show is incredible.
Thank you, Harri...I just love you You deserve to be happy and have all the desires of your heart come true!
Perfect voice it's a Texan thing. Doesn't get much better.
This isn't the original but live years later. He's many people's favorite singer.
I know you put this out a year ago but if you happen to come across it again. Check who's singing in the background. Bruce stringsfield and a lot of others famous singers
Talk about a sad life. If you have time look back at his life. You can hear the hurt in his voice. His young life started out in the depression in Texas.
And thelast hit in the was Anything You want You Got it from Roy. He sadly passed away soon after
My dad was a HUGE Roy Orbison fan. He took me to see him live in 1985(I was almost 10) at the NAC in Ottawa. I remember it being a simple show. Nothing too flashy but man did he have a presence on stage. And that voice. Made me a fan for life.
Also this version of Only the Lonely is from an AMAZING CD/DVD production "A Black & White Night Live"
Those shades were an accident. He left his regular glasses on a plane then had to fly to England for a tour and all he had was his prescription sunglasses so he had to make do. So while touring with the Beatles before they were a phenomenon in fact they were his opening act. He was self conscience about wearing sunglasses at night in a concert hall, however everyone loved it and He's worn them ever since.
Roy coped. He had the respect of the industry. Did you notice that Bruce Springsteen couldn't keep the shit-eating grin off his face? You can actually see 'I'm playing guitar for ROY ORBISON' running across his mind.
And Elvis Costello.
Bruce inducted Roy into the Rock Hall of Fame, and wrote "Roy Orbison sings for the lonely," in Thunder Road.
I love your reaction to this. His voice was truly increfoble. I get shivers just listening to his voice
You can ask just about any famous singer and they will tell you Roy had the best voice
Nice to meet you Harri
Roy Orbison was, first and foremost, a singer. He had such amazing control/ This is an utter classic in every respect. "Blue Bayou"; "Cryin'" and "Oh, Pretty Woman" are essential Roy Orbison tracks. Many people have covered his music over the years. Van Halen did a cover of "Oh, Pretty Woman; Credence Clearwater Revival did a cover of Orbison's "Ooby Dooby"; Linda Ronstadt did an absolutely beautiful cover of "Blue Bayou"
Roy Orbison was one of the Traveling Wilburys, identified on the Wilbury's albums as "Lefty" Wilbury/ - The Traveling Wilburys were a 'super group'. Along with Orbison they were George Harrison as Nelson Wilbury; Tom Petty as Charlie T. Wilbury; Bob Dylan as "Lucky" Wilbury; and Jeff Lynne (of ELO fame) as Otis Wilbury. The song and video for the song "End of the Line" are great ones for reaction videos.
Harri, Please react to roy's RUNNING SCARED!
I hear you! Agree agree! He was my aunts favorite singer and every Sunday she would clean the house and blast Roy on the old stereo record player.
Check out the talent on stage with him. Bonnie Raitt KD Lang, Jennifer Warnes, Elvis Costello, James Burton guitar, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, too many to name. If you watch the whole Black and White Night show you’ll notice Billy Idol’s Spock hair in the audience.
This song was from the video "A Black and White Night". If you like Roy Orbison You should really check out that whole concert. On stage with him are artists like Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, JD Lang, Tom Waits, Carl Perkins, and a list that goes on.
And the amazing J.D. Souther who has his own song called "Only The Lonely" but it's a different song from Roy's. J.D.'s is one of my all time faves too
There’s k d lang 🇨🇦😻 singing in the background ! You will know why I mention her because of the collaboration / duets Roy Orbison & Ms Lang had together 💗☮️. Everyone in this fantastic set are soooo happy to be there with Roy and he looks incredibly happy to be with all these special artists 💗
FANTASTIC !! Roy was so amazing...so unique. what a voice. If you look at the all star cast in this video just just shows how respected this guy was. For the ULIMATE in heartwrenching songs, check out 'Crying'. wow...
One of his best. Hear the original!
When listening to Roy, you have two choices, all his early recordings, or thus Black & White concert.
His stuff in the ,50's has real 1950 arrangements. Lots if smaltzy strings and corny back-up singers. They're good recordings, but definately a '50s recording.
While the Black&White Night concert has modern arrangements where the strings aren't so smaltzy and the back-up vocals are smoother, and much less corny. The new arrangements were created by JD Souther of The Eagles. Plus the absolutely stellar musicians all live on one stage. And it is a great selection of Roys best songs.
Would recommend your future reactions come from the Black&White Night concert, unless of course you want to get a feel for his recordings in the fifties.
I was listening to Roy Orbison in my crib. Love him dearly.
His early vocals are much better than those in the Black and White Night concert. And the orchestrations are great also.
It's probably been said before but check out Roy with the Traveling Wilbury's , Not Alone Anymore. Take care Harry
They were riding their motorcycles Harri, she was a little ways behind Roy and, a guy was getting out of his vehicle and opened the door, she was to close to stop, she hit the door of the vehicle head on and it killed her! That's how it happened! God Bless, RIP Big O. Then he had a house fire and killed 2 of his 3 son's! Roy was a true blue, great husband, father!
I understand exactly what you were saying in the beginning!
Fantastic song, performance and reaction.
One of your listeners recommended a song about his tragedies called "Dreams" a great song.
I did a project on Roy Orbison in college- my teacher told me, “I expected this fun little thing about a 60s pop star, but it was just devastating.”
Hi Harry. You know how to pick them
At the time when the British Beat boom was keeping the US boys at bay this was a number one hit in the UK. One of the few US acts number ones . This tells you how good Roy Orbison was
The big "O" he was called. One of the great legends. I never referred to him as a "rock" star. But, I may be wrong
Listening to your intro about karma and all, I thought immediately of Elvis's gospel song "Farther Along." I really hope you will give it a listen because it's a good one and one of my favorites.
05/17/2023 Hello HarryBest. Chec out the band III.Thanks man. Don
I agree with your thoughts on bad people getting all the breaks, etc
Roy Orbison was called the Caruso (a famous opera singer of the '30s & '40s) of rock n' roll. He had tons of hits and every one of them was great but this is one of my favorites.
Oh Thank you...Love Roy's music.
After his two sons died the woman that would become his second wife, saved him, pulled him out of his depression, and later they had 2 sons together. All of Roy's sons when adults said that he was their best friend. Not often that you hear that.
I love his singing and this poor man has been through a lot in his lifetime.
I know all his songs Hubby used to sing them to me.
No one communicated heartbreak like Roy.
Did you recognize any of his musicians? There's Presley's guitarist James Burton, you see Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen... and heeps of other famous musicians.
And, yes...he lost his first wife Claudette in a motorbike accident and two small sons in a house fire.
Heartbreaking!
One of the greatest voices in history. What makes it even the greater is because he barely opens his mouth, yet honey comes out of it. Probably my favourite male solo artist and it may be controversial, but I’d rank him way higher than Elvis Presley!
I definitely agree! Even Elvis stated that Roy had the better voice. Elvis was good don't get me wrong, but he had the looks to help him, where Roy had that buttery smooth voice that made many people just gravitate towards him!
Roy even influenced the Beatles so much that they asked him to appear with them on their first U;.S. tour. His schedule prohibited him from appearing. Their song Please, Please Me was originally so much like Roy, purposely, that George Martin asked them to do another song. They changed the song and it was still number one. Peace, Harri.
Fun fact; Before the Beatles US tour, Roy toured with them in Europe & that’s how he got his “sunglasses” image. In 1963, he'd chartered a private plane, for a concert in AL. It was bright, so he switched to his prescription sunglasses, then forgot his clear glasses on the plane & had to do the concert in sunglasses. The next day, he flew to London, to do a major tour with the Beatles, which was heavily photographed. By the time the tour was over, everyone recognized him with sunglasses. He said “I was sort of stuck, Instant Image.”
@@wnsafford1854 I had heard that he somehow forgot his glasses or something but didn't know the details. That's a FUN FACT. Thank you very much. Peace.
Yeah, I think the original tempo of "Please Please Me" was a lot like Roy's "Running Scared." George Martin made them record "How Do You Do It?" instead, which was written by someone else... not released as a Beatles single but later a hit for Gerry and the Pacemakers. Martin let them do "Please Please Me" only after they sped it up.
New subscriber here Harris. Bring on Roy when you see fit.
Roy Orbison used to tour in the early days doing shows with other acts like Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis. They all toured together playing the same venue one after the other each night and then partied together.
Please watch the video // You Got It- Roy Orbison// of him performing in Antwerp Belgium, 1988.. He died 17 days later, he was 52.
That looked like Jackson Brown singing back-up and Elvis Costello on guitar...? A brief glimpse of Bonnie Raitt also.
The Beetles opened for him on one of his tours of Britian.
I saw your reaction from k.d. Lang well she's in the backround and on guitar is Elvis Costello from the U.K.
Look at the backup singers on this then check the musicians. You may have seen all of then with their own albums. James Burton on guitar was Elvis's guitar player for many years.
If it touches your Soul that’s Good!! We’re all here to learn and are on different Journeys! The message is always “Love One Another.. Be Kind to each Other” ❤️❤️🙏🏼
I totally agree with you! Life is just life!
Roy Orbison does have one of those unique voices, like Jeff Lynne of ELO. They were in a group together along with George Harrison called "The Traveling Wilburys", and had some incredible songs. It is heartbreaking about his life, but incredible when an artist can sing about it and share it....as so many of their fans have gone through similar experiences. If you ever have the time/desire, there is a song by Radiohead called "Daydreaming" and it is about the lead singer's (Thom Yorke--who has a very ethereal voice) both loss of his wife to cancer and also about half his life spent with her and spent playing music (he met her in college at the same time the band formed)...it is a profoundly haunting and beautiful song about a man in the middle of his life, looking back. Absolutely beautiful. Anyways, as always, peace and love.
Yes wonderful songs about loneliness: "Crying", "In Dreams", "Its Over" and many more!
Harri, thank you for your reaction to this great man and superb vocalist! Roy Orbison was such a nice man, from everything I hear, that his tragic loss goes far deeper than just losing his contributions to music. Just look at the legends of the music industry who happily jumped at the chance to appear on stage with the man for this amazing black and white concert from the late 80's. He sings a nice echo to this song in The Traveling Wilbury's hit "Handle Me With Care". Remember that when you get there someday! Also, kd lang is one of the female back up vocalists and she and Roy do an amazing duet of his song "Crying" which you should put on your ever growing list! Peace!!
Its a sad loss
