I lived on navy base in panama coco solo in 1952. These crabs migrated that year. They were every where. They would come out of the jungle and head towards the water. When you drove anywhere you could the crunching from being run over. Being young children we would get clothes pins and pull the big claws off. Some of them were really big. Like I said, I was between 5-6 years old. When I tell people about it they look at me like I’m crazy. I’m glad I finally checked it out. Yes, I’m 71 years old and yes I was a navy brat and proud of it. We moved every couple of years. A real learning experience.

I was stationed on Flamenco Island for a few months back in 1969 and 1970 and for a brief time, the causeway off the island was filled with land crabs during their mating season.

Maybe they are running away from something ..... radiation, earthquake, etc.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that Chinese fishing vessels will soon be on location dropping nets.
