- This stuff is in scripture for a reason folks. The issues Jesus had with the Pharisees are the same issues we deal with today. This is how the Pharisees used tradition as a way of missing out on the heart of God and neglecting to obey scripture. There's some really interesting parallels between the Pharisees and Catholicism. The Pharisees had the "Oral Torah" and Catholicism has "Sacred Tradition". This is a verse by verse Bible study through the whole gospel of Mark. The only thing I dont want to be is a hypocrite. Forgive me, god, I have been far from you. I want to be with you; I want to seek you and do your will!!!
Great thing to profess just want to point out wen jesus said to be boastful to god in your room with ur door closed.. meaning give god glory not in the sight of man.. not that wat u did is wrong I glorify him in the sight of man and wen I'm alone with god.. but love ur dedication my fellow follower in christ!
How are you doing now? Have you returned to God ? Found a good Bible believing and preaching church? Are you living for the Lord now?
My one friend who used to drink has always been one of the most honest Christian's I know, he's had it more difficult than most people, he's recently decided to get rid of all pharmaceutical medications, he's in this year been delivered from smoking and recently also drinking, but since I've known him I've looked up to him, the sincerity I see in this man blows me away and I only wish I could be as sincere towards God...
I will forever try my best not to be some legalistic jerk who thinks he's upheld the law, I've done horrible things and I thank God that he's put up with it all...
@Itryeightyfive I used to be judgemental earlier in my walk, but the finger was always pointing right back to me, I think God is beyond gracious to us after all we've put him through, we find it difficult to even empathize with him and I think it's so sad, man I hope I weep when I see him, I want him to wipe my tears away, godly sorrow has always brought peace, I've never felt condemned by him in it, rather as if he's saying I know you did this and that but so what I'm greater than it all.
@Itryeightyfive Don't guilt trip yourself or feel shameful, he has given us freedom from that, I do know what you mean though 💪 our very nature is to be self destructive, and if anyone ever challenges me on things like the flood or whatever it might be, I tell them God did those things to preserve humanity, he didn't wipe us all out 😅 but we certainly would and sadly that's the direction this world is heading in once more, Jesus is coming soon and I'm excited for the years ahead, when in the past I was scared...
I believe there's going to be much trial and tribulation but how awesome will it be to depend on God once more...
Jesus is coming soon and I can't wait 💪
Itryeightyfive My friend, we are all broken. And that is exactly the state we need to acknowledge in order to fully embrace our Creator and Savior who loves us beyond understanding. He is your rest, your soft place to fall, your strength, and your place of refuge. Give your battles to Him.
Isn’t that the strange part? Some of the most outwardly broken believers also seem to be the kindest or most genuine. I wasn’t able to trust a seminary student, but I’ve always been able to trust the friends who drink and cuss a little too much sometimes.
🤣 my pastor just did the same chapter yesterday.
That happens Alot.. You hear a teaching and boom. It comes up again. Somewhere else completely different, sometimes even from unexpected people..

Mrs. Patterson it’s amazing how God grabs us like that.
It ok to grab a pork chop, or a catfish. Before the levitical law they ate them. We are not nor have been under that law, it was made obsolete in Christ. 🤗
Shelly Blanchard I’m confused. I admit I can’t remember every word of this lesson with everything that has happened in the past month so I don’t understand what that has to do with my pastor doing the same lesson right before Mike did. Please excuse my forgetfulness, old age stinks sometimes.
@@misst1928 I didn't say anything about that was what someone else preached, it someone else, but I know what you're saying.
There was someone else who said that. They were led to hear this to.

Love what you do here man! I have learned SOOOOO much from you. Thank you so much!!
I hope and pray you are still doing well brother biscuit 🙏
Thank you for your wholesome teaching. I have been looking for this type of teaching for a long time. You are actually feeding us. " The Word is the Bread of Life" , I have a new understanding of Jesus in this way. This type of teaching is a rarity in the Church. Maybe it has to do with where I live! I feel I have been starved. This is so satisfying, and helpful and growth producing. God Bless You

Your message has made me aware of how (dangerously) powerful
my thoughts are and can lead me away from what God wants for me....
When trying to determine whether a person is truly a follower of Christ I will ask them the question "why do you think God should let you be a part of his kingdom of Heaven?". Most of the time they will respond with "because I'm a good person." That opens the door to talk about God's standard of what is good. Many people still believe they have to earn their way in.
Similar to how living waters does it/ Ray Comfort, yeah we like to think that about ourselves, one thing I've realised about God in my walk is that he'll let me fall if it means gracefully breaking me, he's good to us.
@@theSoundlessHuman I like Comforts approach. The only thing is I feel he only covers the half of the gospel message.
@@lmorter7867 His approach is good, does a good job of using the letter to show that we can't fulfill it, his talks are very systematic and I'm not certain if they leave some of the stuff they say out to get more people in one video...
Anyways I've noticed that everyone seems to go about things their own way, not really scriptural of us to do that but I suppose at the end of the day we only plant the seeds.
@@theSoundlessHuman The gospel is simple enough to understand that a child can get it. There's more than one way to share good news. You make these verses so understandable!! Thank you!!
The word "hypocrite" is a transliteration from the Greek. The actual translation is "actor". The actors of that time wore masks to hide themselves and portray a character.
not only does listening to pastor Winger make my walk with my personal savior stronger, it also makes me smarter. I now know what the phrase "pure as the driven snow" means. It does mean fresh snow. I just have to wonder how many others looked that up. haha

Another insightful teaching! Thank you Mike!
Thank you for the reminder, we need to forgive AND forget, just as God cannot remember our sins once forgiven.
God doesn't call our sins to remembrance, but that doesn't mean He has a poor memory. He doesn't *literally* forget. (Nor can we.)
In part yes! But we need to be cautious of repeat offenders. Proverbs is full of beware undertones. It also says to guard your heart. Proverbs calls the one who doesn’t listen a fool. Forgiveness should abound from a Christian!! But also, wise discernment from those who would lead us astray.
Very helpful, thank you
"And let us not grow weary of doing good for in due season we will reap if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9
Keep following Christ in every way and don't give up. Don't let the temporary temptations distract you from the eternal treasures in heaven. Be encouraged knowing that God is with you and that He will never leave you nor forsake you. And if God is for us then who could ever be against us. Hopefully this helped you today. God bless you.
Incredible teaching. Thank you so much, pastor Mike!
As a former calvinist, this is exactly what calvinism does. In the counsels they actually call the institutes a holy doctrine. It's like SDA and Ellen White's lesser light. Col 2:8 would include calvinism. Great video.❤
The answer is to see where it comes from. Its rooted in stoic and gnostic deterministic philosophy. Read the first few centuries of the early church in context. Compare it to the tradition and philosophy of calvinism. If you have received the Spirit, ask him to lead you into all Truth, mature, and Spiritually discern Truth. You'll see calvinism for what it is. This applies to many traditions and philosophy in the "church." Calvinism was just my experiance and being corrected by God. ❤
So few in the modern times have faith in the guiding/revealing power of the Spirit. And I believe its mostly because of Sola Scriptura.
@@kenim I dont disagree. But if they really believed it, it says as much which would overrule their traditions.

The best Bible teacher 💯❗
Samuel Jaboin this guy is great, but how many teachers are there in the world, and how many have you heard. This guy is wonderful in some things, but falls short in others. Don’t be carnal
Samuel Jaboin “Call no man teacher, for you have ONE teacher, Messiah”. Not being petty, just saying we shouldn’t look at anyone as a teacher. We are the bowling ball, God is the hand that throws and guides us. Man is only the bumper to point us back to the direction of the hand’s intended path of the ball. Otherwise it can be easy to esteem man as knowledgeable and worth following. Again I’m not just trying to be petty and nit-picky
@@williamcashmusic "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers"
Ephesians 4:11
Samuel Jaboin please tell me you didn’t take offense. I’m not trying to play word games, I’m explaining a concept. I was trying to clarify I wasn’t being nit picky cause I didn’t want you to think I was misunderstanding what you were saying and I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear. I’m just sharing the concept that Messiah is the one who gave doctrine and we have Shepards now who bump us back on track. Why are you using the scripture to argue against Jesus’ own words? This was suppose to be a friendly point about a concept, not a petty point about the technical wording used
I was trying to create healthy dialogue exploring concept, not wording, with a fellow brother as there aren’t many in my area to talk to. I will hold my peace in the future if you wish. I wasn’t trying to be annoying or be “that guy”. And I realize a yt comment section might not be the best place but where is? God bless brother, I didn’t mean any offense.
At 23:10 I remember thinking that too when I was young! "Why don't they just trust God?? It's so easy!!!" 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ hahaha
I would point out that Scripture is much harsher on the Jewish people than is the reality of how the Jewish people were acting. It is meant to be a lesson. Think about it a bit. 40 years they were in the wilderness and you can count their infractions on just a bit more than two hands. That's it.
This theme is repeated throughout Scripture. King Solomon was a very righteous man yet one would think he sinned greatly. The same is with King David. But in fact neither are true.
The same is true with Zedekiah where Jeremiah tells him that he will burn Jerusalem when in fact the Chaldean's did this. (Jeremiah - Chapter 38 verse 23)
Then there is Jeremiah chapter 41 verse 9 which states '9 Now the pit into which Yishmael had cast all the corpses of the men who had been slain by the hand of Gedaliah'.
Did Gedaliah actually slay them? Was it not Yishmael who had slain them? (verse 7)
Absolutely agree with you Mike about the public rebuke.
I love that you said, “Jesus not only brings us back to the heart of God but to the Word of God.” Right there in Mark 7. That is such a helpful statement in a climate of grave error, one example being Bill Johnson’s derogatory and undercutting words that “It’s not Father, Son, and Holy Bible.”

Jesus IS the Word of God. Just so we’re clear here.

@Dominus Vobiscum that all foods are clean, and are to be recieved with thanks giving. If you read the authors I mentioned that all talk about different aspects of this. Making it clear what he taught and passed on to them.
10:25 sounds like a majority of old guard pastors to me, you have to meet this long list of traditional standards that they have created or they question your love and faith Christ.
Really like that you brought up the point about foolishness. I’ve been slowly looking for more teachings on it and finding examples in my own life. It seems that humor is often used as a pass for morality; as long as something is funny, how can it be wrong? But the Bible doesn’t support that thinking.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the pulpit and the kind of "country-western" looking Scriptures in the background. I miss the bookcases, the jelly beans, and the kitty cat..
Some good points
'Pure as the driven snow'. means driven by the wind. When you wake up in the morning, and it has been snowing, the snow looks pure and clean because nothing has marked it yet, and it looks smooth and wave like, like a sand dune. We haven't had snow like that where I live since I was child.
That's a shame. The weather is being manipulated you know...
34:13 Well put I never thought 💭 of that.
Very relevant to the situation between Mark Driscoll and John Lindell.
One thing people who hasn't grown up in environment doesn't know what it was about. Just like now if you grew up in the 60's knew how it was with black when the couldn't use certain water fountains or would have to ride in certain seats on the bus.
The kids now didn't grow up in that situation. It's around 60 years. Each generation is bit different.
Tradition is good, if it is the right tradition. 1 Cor 11:2, 'I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.'
Thank you mike lol

Hi I don’t know if you read comments on old videos but I really feel confused on coveting as you spoke about it? I thought it was like sinfulling wanting things or like being jealous of stuff people have that you don’t but in the video you describe it kinda by repeating I want so like I jump to maybe it’s just obsessing over wanting things? But then you describe it as like a desire for something and just like ... I’m confused mike? Like ... here’s an example in my life my laptop is getting kinda older I want a new one occasionally I look at them or like enter give aways I see for some if I’m in the mood to bother with that but like is that coveting?
Could you other verse by verse series? When Im being fed the word I become a glutton. I desire more
Good to listen Mike. But one thing I see you don't understand is that nominal divisions are bad because Christ isn't divided, as we see in 1 Corinthians 1:12-13.
Who is the Greg Boyd he is referring to at 45:48? Just wondering, thank you.
Ya, one of the traditions of the flds that was taught for doctrine, was that in order to go to the highest degree of glory you had to live plural marriage.
i sometimes wonder if i'm dreaming when weird or idiosyncratic things happen, lol
49:40 “pure as the driven snow”. It’s the snow being blown by the wind, as in “driven by the wind.” So you are close when you say the “fallen snow.”
"Thus he declared all foods clean" is NOT in the greek. Therefore, it is added in commentary to sway the reader to think he changed the law of God which is unchangeable or else he fails the Deut 13 test. we must rightly understand the Bible. he was saying, food doesnt effect your salvation.
What makes you say that "he declared all foods clean" is not in the greek?
Christopher Walls that is a subtext added by the scribes and translators after the fact. It is a provable fact what this person said. The oldest manuscripts that we have today don’t actually have that in there. That’s why so many people call the NIV the “nearly inspired version”. Of course it’s not just that version. It’s atrocious to add that in to messiahs words and trick readers into thinking he inspired it
@@williamcashmusic
"that is a subtext added by the scribes and translators after the fact" is the statement I'm asking to be supported by evidence. We can talk about the meanings of words, but everything I've seen definitely has the phrase "καθαρίζον πάντα τὰ βρώματα" roughly meaning "is cleansed all food" or "all food is cleansed." What manuscript does not have that phrase?
Christopher Walls and also in the verse right before the one I just mentioned it talks about it being food for the “faithful” Indicating a specific, pre established list of food that was meant for the people of God. Hope this helps

Mike, though this sermon is over a year old, I want to point out that we still have dietary restrictions given through the Holy Spirit at the council of Jerusalem. Acts 15:20 - abstain from things that have been strangled and from blood. Also Acts 21:25.
That was to not alienate the Jews who might be saved.
@@nancyjernigan5840 I appreciate the comment, but the passage is specifically addressed to Gentiles, not Jews.
"...But as for the Gentiles who have believed."
For the sake of unity between Jewish and Gentile believers.
My answer still stands. The message to Gentile Christians was to abstain from food that was, for instance, sacrificed to idols if it was going to offend a Jew who might be offended and not become a a Christian because of it.
@@nancyjernigan5840 That's not what it says. It says to stay from things polluted by idols AND sexual immorality AND from what has been strangled AND from blood. Nothing there about not causing Jews to stumble.
Yes, tradition kills Scripture when normative experience is imputed upon Scripture.
Jesus said to the rulers of the temple that when they sit in the seat of Moses what they said was from the Torah. Its when they stood and taught that they referred to the traditions. That is what is meant. Jesus was telling the people to only listen when the teachers were sitting in the seat of Moses.
I think “driven snow” in the expression you quoted is referring to driven by wind, drifted-not having a car drive on it. Pure as the driven snow would be snow blown about in drifts.
Thoughts about food being clean: Mark was Peter's gospel, Peter had the dream in Acts about clean foods; could this be a retrospective commentary as Peter looked back on what Jesus said? Which at the time they may not have understood.
In mark it says are u too without understanding nothing goes into u that defines u.
Jesus I truly believe was being cryptic
I spent time in hebrew roots.
I was ready to toss all my food habits
Then I read acts.
I begged the lord to understand why and how 119 ministries could ever believe that it wasn't about food.
Then wam I got hit with chills lost my breath went to floor
It was instant. I realized why of course it was about food.
Solberg and other pastors soon showed and I listened.
That spark of listinging when I was stunned.
It dawned on me that the food laws were to seperate the gentile and jew
The food shown was the fare of the world
How would the gospel spread
In Mark 9:49 What Did Jesus mean by saying "Everyone will be salted with Fire?" Is this a Hebrew idiom? Or something else? Just curious because he says everyone will have this done.

Traditions nullifying the word of God: "Latria vs dulia distinction"
I really appreciate what Mike Winger does. Here, I think his comparison between tattoos, Christmas and alcohol is a logical fallacy - apples and oranges comparison (and maybe pears, since there are three). For example, one relates to a negative command, one relates to history, and one has no prohibition. Pairing an objective matter with one that is more subjective gives the appearance of credibility with the issues that are more subjective. I would add that, in my observation, the desire to see unity and fellowship has lead Christians to compromise and to dumb down or twist truth. Disagreeing is hard, and it takes work, and it is sometimes awkward. The emotion-driven "thought police" who hear "unity" feel the need to shut down disagreement as fast as they can. That isn't healthy, and it isn't a biblical goal. The Bible doesn't seems to put ideas like love, commitment and truth above unity. The plea for unity can also be an argument in itself. Here is what I mean: If one person thinks tattoos are okay, and the other says they are not, the one who says they are okay can call for unity, complaining that the subject causes division. In that case, the one who is a proponent of tattoos, as a practical matter, wins.
"we find God's heart in scripture " . I was trying to figure out why I have been drawn to this series. Maybe that is the answer.
1:05:00 oof! The scribes come from Jerusalem added tradition and spoke from the seat of Moses, the pope comes from Rome added tradition and speaks from the seat of Peter. Yet they don't seem to have gotten the wake up call in the 1600s, not even right now.
This is why I do not prefer red-letter bibles, because so many people use them to reject 95% of holy writ in Jesus' name.

Please help with Mark 10 and Luke 16..... may I not marry again if my husband still lives?
He left after 25yrs with another woman.....
Helet Van Blerk Jesus said unless one spouse commits adultery , you can’t divorce. So if I am correct, yes you can remarry since ur former hubby commuted adultery.
Both Matthew 5:32 and 19:9 (KJV) says (which is clearer):
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, EXCEPT it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. Matthew 19:9
But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. Matthew 5:32
Since all is inspired of God, they must agree, so I see it as saying the same thing in Mark and Luke. So as I understand it, the "innocent party" (you) can remarry since your ex committed adultery. But then you need to be careful who you remarry.....

P.S. I'm Jewish.
What do you do when you find yourself in a Christian School who has implemented traditions as rules, like face shaving and how long your hair can be, what kind of clothes you can wear? When we are told to obey our authorities and leaders in scripture but they have shifted into using their rules as "fruit testers" by saying things like "well if you were truly humble you would just shave your face or wear this"? But really we aren't to view those things as requirements in the first place right?
That sounds concerning. It’s one thing to have rules for school. It’s another thing to make them an inherent moral code. Pretty sure only God can test fruit because only he knows the heart. Believers can only observe fruit and even then we don’t see clearly.
Pretty sure the “pure as the driven snow” saying has to do with the way the snow gets pushed into snow drifts. I don’t think I’ve ever seen dirty snow drifts, they’ve always been really white.
It actually infers about the type of rare snow you find in Antarctica that actually possesses and manufactures snow mobiles.. 😂
I was reading Judges for the first time and I was getting very upset with the people of Israel because they kept doing the same thing over and over again. They where trying to convince themselves and others that Jesus wasn't "of God" so they were accusing the disciples to say "see He isn't from God because He doesn't teach the traditions"
What are dispensations? Does anybody know? What is a dispensationalist? When I went to the Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) the Pastor almost had a heart attack when he thought I was a dispensationalist. I didn't even know what it meant..Is it the same as believing in Covenants?
I realize this comment is almost a year old, so you may have already found the answers to your questions. Just in case you are still curious about it...
"Dispensations" refer to different eras of history in which God relates to people differently. For example, one dispensation would refer to the era between the Fall of Man and the Flood, another would be the era from the giving of the Law of Moses until the crucifixion of Christ. A "Dispensationalist" is simply someone who believes in Dispensations. Some of the other distinguishing features of Dispensationalism are belief in the Rapture, a literal 7-year Tribulation, and a literal 1000-year Millennium. The system was crafted by John Nelson Darby in the 1830s, and is held by many different churches. A lot of churches based on older traditions, including the LCMS, have a deep dislike of Dispensationalism, which is very different from their eschatology.

What does take up your cross daily and follow after me mean?
an invitation to hell? :-)
Perhaps you’ve found out by now, but it means that we are called to deny ourselves and our sinful desires and follow Christ’s way. The Christian life is a constant struggle within and also against the world’s lies. As the Bible says, anyone who wants to live a godly life will be persecuted.
Unity is great regarding peripheral things. But the Bible does draw lines against fellowshipping with people engaged in willful sin and doctrinal heresy. Also, i think sometimes we have to protect ourselves and our family from toxic and abusive individuals.
