- Big thanks to "G.MacForce creations" for the beautiful Producer Groot.
In this video you can hear me ramble for more than half an hour about the production of the songs from the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
This is how in-depth jury members should be thinking before voting! Great video as always Groot 👏
Hopefully Groot once gets choosen for the Swedish Jury in a year in recent future.
Damn,this is professional.
I don't think I ever said this. I have never studied music or anything but I dabbled in music production before, I learned to produce instrumental tracks by myself in my teen years🤓(I used to dream of a music career 😅), I feel like because of that I have some understanding of what you're talking about. And I'm actually learning even more about it from your videos. 🤓So thank you! ❤
Excellent tier list Groot! I love the fact that you ranked the 2 songs produced by Dardust right at the top (Italy & Luxembourg)
Thanks for a great and very educational tier list. Your comments make sense and make me listening to these songs in a somewhat new way, and that's kind of exciting. I finally understand why I don't hear any real greatness of Croatia's entry, even though so many people do. I also understand why I like Slovenia's entry, even though that song should'nt be my cup of tea. Really like you're putting Armenia very high and totally agrees with Luktelk from Lithuania. Thanks for an eye opening video. 👌
I still stand by my thoughts on Austria's song, it's that kind of generic, eurodance trash that you hear in the 90s and early 2000s and I personally never found this to be impressive in any stretch of the imagination. I feel it rides too much on the nostalgia factor to the point that they just left the song as it is without adding anything to make the song sound more interesting.
Thank you for putting Silvester Belt into "extraordinary", he deserves that. I love that unique song and he's an engaging performer. Your evaluation show that the eurovision album is well worth to listen to compared to other years. It's nice to hear the opinion of a music expert like you.
Amazing video
Min kära, you should be a jury on ESC! The production is sometimes overlooked and I feel this should be taken to consideration. As usual, I love to hear your thoughts!
Interesting tier list even though I only understood like half of it. Something about percussive beats, dynamic progressions and finding something very palpable. Watching yours or ThePeaceArounds content made me realise I don't know how to music.😅
Just my opinion, Switzerland's production is huge, but it really crosses the line for me and I would add a category for it called OVERPRODUCED. No hate, just my opinion
Nah for me the only song I would put in overproduced is Cyprus
This was so informative and educational, I really enjoyed listening to you and this is also very different from most other videos about Eurovision. Thank you for putting in all the work. I am from Iceland and am so disappointed with our entry this year although Hera is ofc a great performer but this song is so boring and dated that it is actually the one of perhaps 3 songs that I just can’t listen to this year 😅 So many great songs and obviously well produced too 😊 I totally agree on your top tear although the song from Cypress is not my cup of tea (I can see that it is really well produced though witch sets it apart from other girl bops of the year. Iceland had interesting selection this year, did you follow it? If you did it would be interesting to hear your favourite production of them.
Have you listened the karaoke versions? Do you ever listen to them? Austria's karaoke is ridiculous, I thought they just uploaded the regular version instead. 😂 Update: Ok, you just said that you did listen to the Irish instrumental. 😅
When you said Iceland's production "melts into one big pile of....." my anticipation was palpable. 😏
Always great to hear your perspective on these things! 👍
I agree that Croatia could definitely use a lot more punch. It feels especially lacking in the chorus.
I get the criticisms around Georgia. Though I can't articulate it in the same way that you do, my sense was that it feels quite blunt. Despite that I've really come around to liking the song, which I wasn't expecting when I heard it the first time.
This is great. The fact that I don't even know what you're talking about half the time is inspiring me to want to learn more about music production! :) Something I feel is that good production doesn't always mean necessarily that a song is interesting to listen to (I'll listen to "Pedestal" over "Europapa" any day, for example), but with that said, five of the six songs you have in your top tier are in my 10 favorites this year, so I guess it helps. On a side note, I did kind of think you would be more enthusiastic about Belgium.
20:00 haha love how you totally disregarded Israel there 😂
Me, who is completely tone-deaf and can't distinguish a guitar from a piano, nor had any Idea what you are saying: hmm, yes, absolutely, good analysis, I would've said the same thing!
Konačno neko ko zna šta je muzika 👍,a ne cirkus! Bravo
🎲🎲🎲😘🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
How dare you put Austria down there
Video starts at 3:19
For Croatia the thing that makes it impressive to me is that it is fully self-done. He wrote it by himself in his bedroom, performed it there and produced it there so that is why there is loads to improve on. And that is also why I wouldn’t put it there. The gritty tone is also really not necessary either as it’s message and lyrics exposes it more than the instrumental which makes me say the instrumental and production doesn’t need it for me.
But other than that I agree with a majority of your takes in terms of production but definitely not in terms of the songs themselves.
I world also disagree with Moldova as the composition feels so all over the place and messy. The clustering of every sound just makes every turn come with maximal intensity which this song does and it just overwhelms me. This definitely needs to go back to the studio and just feels plain unfinished.
And also for me Norway is an extraordinary song for production and every part of the instrumental just hits you in the soundscape making it feel epic and grand. Everything works together perfectly for me, which is impressive based on the complexity of what is within it. It blows my mind every time I hear it partly because of the production but fundamentally because of everything the song has.
First of all, I like to thank you
But...Aren't you afraid? ...with all that you have said ...and spoiled the illusions of many ...that you will be hunted down fiercely?
Would it kill you to analyze Israel at all? Hoping there isn't too much of a bias creeping through, have a lot of respect for your channel.
Why would anyone have to do anything at all with that song other than utterly disregard it?
You do know that the media are speaking about the International Court issuing arrest warrants for netanyahu et all?
Do look into why that is. Do take into account that the West Bank is more & more occupied. Do watch why people say KAN is misusing the ESC for propaganda.
STOP thinking that everything is one big hoax & that netanyahu is some kind of victim. He's a racist @&*$^%(
ANYONE voting for that song is participating in the KAN propaganda & will have blood on their hands.
Netherlands should be on top lol
NO, this is about PRODUCTION value & Joost produced this at home. So of course it isn't going to measure up against songs produced in a studio.
You don’t sound bias about Israel at all, you can just skip the song it’s okay, no need for insults.
Bla bla bla. Empty words which builds up an empty sentences.
All of your top tier are in my team -8 in the impressive tier - 6 meet expectations none in the RFI tier and one in the BTS tier. 15 is a very poor year for me - I think it's less attractive than the golden years (2015 - 2023)
Greeceeee, 🇬🇷 Marina ❤ I love Zari 🎲!!!!
Thank you for Greece! 🇬🇷🙏
noooo not the ai thumbnail :c
Excellent presentation.
Luxembourg extraordinary?? The revamp made it worse...
The thumbnail looks amazing (G.MacForce Creations) here. Estonia and Azerbaijan and Armenia are my guilty pleasures. Thank you for giving Bambie an impressive rating. New version was released by rte as a tribute and its nice even though Ireland is my neighbouring country. I'm loving your channel especially your honesty and I'm learning more technical about music as well which makes me think and I love being part of the online community. Keep up the good work because its working much love from Northern Ireland.
Haha, "Liar" and "Fighter" extraordinary, while "We will rave" and "Firefighter" back to the studio?? Probably a 5 year old kid could do a better tier list lol
