So crazy that only three women have ever conducted the orchestra at Eurovision, and two of them did it in that year.

1973 is such a great year, and has one of the best top threes ever! Unfortunately, it seemed like the sound mixing wasn't that great.
But I have to agree with you; Tu te reconnaitras is such a treat. It's only my fourth favorite winner of all time (behind Insieme, Nocturne, and Dansevise), but it's still so wonderful.

Great ranking! 1973 is quite an interesting year... the hits are absolutely amazing, but there are quite a few misses!
Love seeing the love for Portugal this year - it's such an underrated and funky tune! My winner is Yugoslavia this year (followed very closely by Luxembourg). Gori Vatra is such a knockout song and performance - it's up there with 1971 for my favorite Yugo entry.
Despite this not being a year stacked with great songs, it's pretty interesting that a lot of these artists were either returning artists, or they would return for a future contest! Looking forward to seeing the ranking for 1974 soon!

Only 5 songs I like this year
    1) Tourada
    2) Eres tú
    3) Tu te reconnaitras
    4) It's just a game
    5) Ey sham
UK, Yugoslavia and Ireland are ok too i guess, but the rest are all quite unenjoyable (although Belgium's stupidity is warming on me)

Yea, 1973 is not known to me as the strongest of years. But damn... that top 2 is just awesome sauce! Some others are ok, but most is pretty forgettable. //
I also used to agree with your comment on Ireland's Maxi's performance, but after reading about her experience - it makes sense she didn't bother. She was probably real destabilized after a dramatic week. In case you - or someone else reading this - didn't know, Ireland's participation this year was super dramatic. Maxi's management and the Irish broadcaster RTE got in a huge fight over how the song should sound, and how it should be performed so on the day before the contest, literally with one day's margin, RTE straight up disqualified her and they even flew out Tina Reynolds to take over the task. When Tina had landed in Luxembourg, Maxi had been brought back... again... and Tina got to enjoy the contest from the sidelines and, as thanks for the cooperation, was given the task to represent them in 1974, as it was the first time they selected internally. But yea, Maxi has not said too much, but she has said that the whole fighting (which she wasn't even a active part of, it was just about her) kinda threw her off. Luckily, she could get a somewhat happier ESC adventure in 1981 as part of Sheeba.

That's really sad to read... I'll be keeping an extra eye on her when I get to 1981 for my rewatch sessions
      Thank you for sharing!

Zdravko started his career with this song, he's still a huge star in all former republics of Yougoslavia

I have to watch ESC 1973. I understand the winner But I will always think that Eres Tu should have won. Ilanit was great. Big surprise to me was Gori Vatra. Nicole and Hugo didn't deserve last place.

This year has very few memorable songs. Belgium of course, for their routine and the costumes, Sweden for the peculiar lyrics... Cliff... My winner Yugoslavia with the terrific Gori Vatra, and of course the very emotive "French singer" from Luxembourg. Overall just like 1972, it's one of the weaker years with few highlights. And I'm very surprised with Spain being that high. I just can't get past that terrible live performance. 😅

Not the greatest live performance, indeed... but I really find the song special, and the first minute of the performance is still very beautiful!

@@groot1421 there's something very familiar about the melody of "Eres Tú", it reminds me of some other song but I can't put my finger on it.😅

I didn't remember 1973 being this... cheesy. Outside of your top 7, I don't really find much enjoyment. Your top 3 specially are the strong ones of this year. My top 5 is:
    5. Italy
    4. Israel
    3. Luxembourg
    2. Portugal
    1. Spain
    Take care, kära vän!

L Ortf aurait dû choisir une autre chanson, titre trop proche que le Luxembourg 72. Le Luxembourg mérite la 1ere place..

Maybe I'm a philistine - in fact its highly possible as I'm not able to appreciate the songs construction like Groot but ive never liked Te Tu Recontrias. I think a lot of it is I find the tune boring and I profoundly dislike Anne Marie David's singing and performing style. I'm not a fan of belting divas milking a tune for all its worth and no one is more dramatic than she is to the extrent where she's borderline scary. Maybe its just i grew up with glam and then post punk (thats new wave to you Americans) and i find the overwrought diva style of ballad singing unbelievably pretentious (it probably explains why i dislike most ballads).

Only 2 female vocal acts in your top 7.😉 TBF, I like most of your ranking, but Italy would be my number 1. Your winner though would be my last, of course, as her voice grinds my gears and I dislike her personality.
