What is most intriguing about the band is this unusual, foreign quality. Listening to Minsk is like standing on the border between Russia, China, India and the Middle East: all four of these ancient civilizations seem to exist at the same time in this soundscape - most obvious on With Echoes and Out of a Center. I've never heard anything like it.
So it's not necessarily belief...this is truth.

@neurotic4ever: I've heard all Neurosis albums since Enemy of the Sun. Cleanse's mood is unnerving, creepy, and animalistic, as if listening to Mayans hunting you; this is the pervasive mood of most Neurosis tribals.
Minsk uses tribal drumming to create an otherworldly element that is not definable as part of any school of thought; it is more cerebral, a Tool-like style.
Which band is better is not part of the argument; the argument is that the two bands are NOT similar, based on FACTS.

@mgm805: Minsk rely heavily on psychedelics, and leave remnants of Nachtmystium in their sound; Neurosis have never been influenced by black metal.
Lyrical themes are less extreme, more personal; Minsk, although not religious, set up some type of Vedic personality.
The drumming wanders, almost always tribal, whereas even mid-era Neurosis didn't use it that extensively. In fact, all Minsk material is wandering, lawless, while Neurosis song structures are more defined.
