Very cool video! Just a small correction: The Super GameBoy 2 does NOT run GameBoy Color games. It's just a revision of the original Super GameBoy, with some adjustments like corrected clock speed and Link Cable support. It only runs normal GameBoy games, though.
A game company making a more budget friendly option for gamers?! Truly a relic of the past. Great video. 👍
EDIT : The Super Gameboy 2 was an upgrade of the original Super Gameboy and could only play original Gameboy games. I had heard in the past it played GBC games (In colour) so apologies for that!
The super Gameboy 2 could play the black Gameboy color games
i was about to post that as well
@@ahhcmon9604 So could the Super Game Boy original. The major difference was the addition of a link port and a timing bug.
Fake news 🐢
@@greenkoopa What.
You leave Columns ALONE, LD!!! Lmiao. 💜
Stumbled upon a game collection called 'Sufami' and was like WTF is that?! Super informative and hilarious video about this console, one of the only on UA-cam I might add. Thanks for the upload and look forward to checking out more!
Bandai also created an add-on for the Famicom called the Datach, which uses small cartridges and comes with cards to scan on the device itself, to add features to each of the Datach's games.
The super gameboy 2 does NOT support Game Boy color, it just has the link added (and a speed improvement i believe)
games run at the correct speed so technically its worse for grindy rpg lmao
still neat though they added more palettes and features - but if u must play gbc on a console the gamecube is your best bet
This is correct; it was created as a response to complaints from Japanese players that they couldn't trade Pokemon on the original. The "speed improvement" was due to it including its own internal oscillator, allowing it to run at the Game Boy's clock rate of 59.7hz; the original Super Game Boy ran at the frequency of the television standard the SNES/SFC was designed for. That meant that NTSC systems ran at 60hz, slightly faster than the GB, and PAL systems ran at 50hz, significantly slower than the GB. I imagine the clock speed corrections became important when the link cable comes into play.
This is such a cool device I never knew about! In the late 90s, Magic: The Gathering was a big thing, and I wished that Capcom/SNK would take the idea of the collectible card game and adapt it to fighting games. That way, it wouldn't just be the same 8-10 fighters. I was thinking that mini-CDs could be used, with a single laser and two motors. But little cartridges would probably be a more suitable format.
In the mid 2000's Mattel tried to bridge the gap between video games and collectible cards with the Hyperscan. There were fighting games that required you to scan cards to unlock characters... unfortunately the whole system is terrible though.
@@wearederailed Oh yeah, but of course Hyperscan was completely awful. And the thing is, the cards only unlocked access to data already on the game. With a collectible fighting game, the data for a character would be on the mini-CD or cart. That way, new content could be added incrementally.
The funny thing is that they made a Pokemon-like dual version game on the Neo*Geo Pocket Color where their fighting characters (and some from other genres) were put in a card game format.
Skylanders: *exists*
I'm so glad to see a video finally covering the Sufami Turbo. This concept is so cool though! In SD Gundam Generations, the linked game will expand your character roster. Can you imagine if you had a device like this for games like Pokemon, which allowed you to catch Pokemon from another region in your game? Or think about if Capcom adopted this, and they applied it to Megaman. Megaman ZX used the GBA Cartridge slot to import bosses from MMZ3 and MMZ4, but what if Capcom had done that an entire generation earlier? There are so many possibilities!
I agree; this concept should have been researched more, if it wasn't yet feesable then. In fact, I'm thinking "Super Mario World" with "Super Mario All Stars". Only _my_ idea is to have THREE slots (Yoshi's Island). Then you could mix the game data! In a manner of speaking, SEGA did this as a solution to thier timing problem in developing "Sonic 3", only the add on is *itself* the primary game (Sonic and Knuckles).
EDIT - Technically, the cart with "Super Mario All Stars AND Super Mario World" on it would work, and take up one slot for all the games on it.
EDIT - Also, this give us the possibility to combine levels and playable characters between "Street Fighter", "Mortal Kombat", "Clayfighter", "Brutal", any "Dragonball Z" fighter, etc.
These videos just keep getting better!!!! Funny and informative😍
Hey Lady Decade, new suscriber here. Great video! I discovered your channel about a month ago and I love your content. You take me back to my childhood reading all those video games magazines :D I don't have a request to cover obscure hardware however I have seen that you cover some homebrews and I was wondering if you might shed a bit of information on the likes of am2r or super mario eclipse if you've not covered them already. Keep up the great work!
Cool video, didn't know about this device! Two small things, though:
1) Richard Darling is not only the guy who develped the Aladin Deck Enhancer, he and his brother David were even the founders of Codemasters.
2) I think you mixed up "Bubble Bobble" with "Puzzle Bubble" aka "Bust a Move". It's a spinoff though, but Bubble Bobble is more of a platformer and not a "Tetris"-style game.
Ok, that was my party pooping from Germany! ;) Keep it on! :)
German Party Pooping is the finest in the world!
Seriously, thanks for clearing it up.

What do you think of Ben Heckendorn?
Hey, at 4:14, I noticed you shamelessly ripped off the line used for the AVGN episode dedicated to the Aladdin Deck Enhancer.
I grew up with Nintendo Power and I've been watching channels in the same genre as yours for years and I had never heard of this. Thank you!
A bit of trivia. In Gosei Sentai Dairanger the White Dairanger was a little boy who stayed a little boy. Sagan would of course change this when they applied the Dairanger monsters and mech to MMPR, and made Tommy the White Ranger instead of using a child.
Add ons were such a fun idea. But the companies couldn't find out how to make a device to target a fraction of the original owners and cheaper than just making a brand new unit.
The idea of having a main cartridge which houses the support hardware and sub-cartridges with just the ROM/SRAM for individual titles or expansions is a concept that really deserved more consideration than it ever got. It just makes so much more sense from a business perspective. But the SuFami Turbo really takes it a step further, doesn't it? The idea of adding content from a second cart is so killer!
I've never heard of this device before and it's good you have brought it to light, quite informative.
Bit of constructive criticism, I wish British UA-camrs referred to systems names to the region they are from, Sega CD and the Sega 32X were the American names for their add-ons, ours was always the Mega CD and Mega Drive 32X.
Every time I see a new video from you, it just shocks me with the new stuff that I never heard and I think that I'm a hotshot at knowing these rare stuff. Genuinely glad that my patreon support is actually educating me!
Very loud and fast paced episode, content is perfect
Shim Cham was a badass show, we in the USA didn't really know about it until it was aired on adult swim. That datach thing does seem intriguing
i love columns, my 2nd favorite puzzle game after Tetris.
I really enjoy your channel. Continue the great work!
How did this video pass me by? I heard about the Sufami a while back but had no idea what it was about. Thanks for this.
it sounded like you were gonna start singing at 5:54 😂
I have a rare, unlicensed SNES add on. "The Super 8" allows one to play SNES games via pass through. You can also play Super Famicom, without harming your console. Also it has a Famicom slot, and NES! 4 consoles in one. The only real critique I have of it is NES games have the Pinstripes much like the NES top loader. But it saves tons of shelf space.
@@paxhumana2015 I live in Connecticut, their offices were about 20 minutes from my house. I'm not sure where they were manufactured however.
hot damn, I didn't even know this existed. cheers on that! also, the additional humor in this episode was a lot of fun and made for several good moments. I'm particularly fond of the first at 2:41 that ends with a wry grin. I kind of wish that shot had lingered longer, your facial expression was hilarious.
Found your channel recently your a fab UA-camr,from a fellow Brit, all the best 👍
I've never got a floppy disc when I hear lady decade talk about a console
A Sufami Turbo lookalike is the central plot mechanic in the indie game "SuperMash". You put one genre in each slot, and the device will create a "SuperMash" game that blends them. A better concept than an actual game, but I was so surprised when I booted it up and saw the Sufami.
Great content! I predict a huge increase in subs over the next year for sure
Interesting and awesome content as always! Looking beautiful as always too!
Your channel is awesome. Thanks for the video.
Nice find. Never heard of this thing. Great Job Lady Decade.
Great tone & pacing with your voiceover! Gives an air of professionalism that makes it more engaging and easy to follow along.
Appreciate the SuFami Turbo history lesson ^-^ Cheers
Every time I think I know it all, you dig up some obscure monstrosity of yesteryear that I was unaware of. You never fail to impress.
Never heard of this crazy addon. I totally geek out over stuff like this. The tinfoil hat scene had me dying. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great review! Love your humor😁🔥
Loved that subtle reference at 5:40 (a reference to the old sega cd commercial). This channel is awesome, I just found you recently. I believe you will go far!
Once again, I am surprised with another bit of kit I've never heard of! Very interesting. Thanks again.
Really like your content. As a 70s kid this is great !
Oh boy, new Lady Decade vid!
Another fantastic video, lady.
new to ur channel n i love it!! great job Lady
This is really cool! It used to kill me how I couldn't carry any sort of progress from one game to a sequel or use my own save game when playing a game at a friend's house.
Excellent content as usual, Lady Decade!
I loved learning about this peripheral that I had no idea existed.
I am very interested in a future episode about the Datach add-on!
So cool had no idea about the two products. Awesome content lol
I spent so many hours playing that Carranger game! Great video overall. Thumbs up!
Yes, I'd like to know more about that Datach addon. Please, keep your intro/outro, I missed it this time.
I love your videos.
you’ve been up to fantastic work. please keep up this content creation!
What an intriguing device! Great video!
*True fact:* A Super Nintendo/Super Famicom Game Genie can be used to play games from other regions (it bypasses the plastic pins in the cartridge slot, which prevents cartridges from other regions from fitting). I use my Game Genie to play US SNES games on my Super Famicom all the time. A Game Genie is a lot cheaper than one of those cartridge pass-through adapters found on eBay. *And before hardcore gamers respond:* Our hobby has grown exponentially over the yearsI A new generation of gamers are just beginning to learn the ropes, and I just wanted to provide information that will help them in their journey to importing games from other regions.
Thanks for bringing my attention to this add on, never even Heard of it, or seen it in the magazines.
Great video as always! Keep up the good work!!! I'd like the see an episode in the Bandai Datach please!

Lady decade you're doing a great job with these videos keep it up and just ignore the hater's that leave stupid comments, they just think they know it all and they don't there idiots anyway keep up the good work I do enjoy your videos.
here in the Netherlands we cared about the Shinshan anime. It was localized somewhere in the late 90s I think and it was quite popular
Sick content as always
I'm a big fan of these videos. Always a good insight into old gaming stuff that I've never heard of 🙂
Cool vid, since you asked can you cover the Turbo File twin, another obscure SFC accessory?
Wow great review and info, I definitely did not know this adapter with its own library of games existed for the Super Famicom/Super NES. Cool stuffs.
Lady Decade, you cover some great material.
Crayon Shin Chan has jokes that are difficult to translate, and references that only Japanese people understand.
Pretty cool add on. Something I would have wanted as a kid honestly. Absolutely loved my Super Gameboy add on though. Would love to learn about that add on at the end. The Datach? Love learning about all this stuff I never heard about 👍
Russian Geek has a video on the Datach, with professionally translated English subtitles:

He also has a video on the even rarer Konami QTa Adapter for Famicom:

Would love Lady Decade's take on them as well.
Jeremy Parish also has a video on it.

You have been finding some VERY obscure items lately!(at least from my perspective, here in the USA) So awesome!!! FYI - Totally curious about that Datach!!! Look at all those cards! That looks like a substantial investment was made into it! :)
Great video once again. :)
I love seeing junk I've never heard of before. Where do you dig up that stuff?
You're nailing the laff acts between clips, proper blessed, great video once again!
Datach would be interesting, saw friends in Japan stream a meetup where they did Barcode Battle (but DBZ and on console, NES?) hijinks, trying to find which pizza or ramen packet had the best value.
Jeez!!! That thing looks like a Toaster btw Cool video 👍👍👍
why does lady decade sound like someone who narrated gaming tv shows back in the late 90's - early 2000's (gamespot, extended play etc)
New subscriber right here & Im enjoying the content
The collection you two have may even beat someone like John Hancock, at least in one category. You should probably do a game room tour on your channels at one point.
Not to stir the pot or anything, but John Hancock can’t hold a candle to Lady Decade. You can hear and feel Lady Decade’s passion for the hobby in every video she releases. As someone who used to watch John Hancock’s content for years, I can say with a degree of certainty that John Hancock is more interested in what he can get for ‘free’ from his donors, than he is about sharing his ‘passion’ for the hobby. If you pay close attention to John Hancock’s mannerisms during one of his videos, you’ll see exactly what I mean. It’s downright disgusting how John uses the museum excuse to get donations for his collection. Retro Man Cave here on UA-cam just finished his retro gaming museum (it took him less than 4 years to complete), and he’s close to opening it to the public. John Hancock has been promising his donators and subscribers a museum for how long? And the best he could do was add a small addition to his house? Yeah… but no thanks.
What about AlphaOmegaSin's Game Collection, It's also not bad - too bad he's not doing videos anymore
@@duncangarnett1976 yeah good too... that's why he did a game room tour.
@@worldofretrogameplay6963 I was talking about game room not presentation skills.
Loving the use of the F-Zero fire field theme.
The funny thing is, that Shin-chan was played on our polish version of Fox Kids channel, even with polish dub, but it was soon switched to be played very late at night because of content
I love this content. You and your work are awesome!
Kinda reminds me of the MSX versions of Twinbee and Gradius. The two cartridge slots allowed players to play Gradius with Twinbee characters and vice versa if both cartridges were inserted. This later led to the creation of the Parodius series.
Lady decade love your work💗
Lady Decade is AWESOME. Ans YES I would like to know about that other NES thing.
I don't know if you mentioned it before, but the Pioneer LaserActive is pretty interesting. I got a floor model from a big store. It was the 1st loan I ever took out for about $600 in the early 90's
Can i have a heart/like? I love your videos, you do a lot of research and also put a lot of effort into the production, awesome work!
I picked one of these up super cheap a few years ago with a Japanese SFC, but I never really bothered to look into it, I just thought it was interesting at the time and it was so cheap I figured why not. Thanks for the info! I might have to look into getting some of those Gundam games now :D
This looks insanely cool! Would love to play this on OG hardware, at least to try it out. The jokes were on point here as well :P
They missed out on a huge opportunity. They could have sold game carts and DLC carts separately to essentially skin the games. They could have had a racket going with different visual styles that could be pumped out without having to develop a new game for a while.
I've SO been waiting for this
Another great video by the one and only #LadyDecade #AllHailtheQueen
Love your work
Love your vids
Hi. I recently acquired a Panasonic FS-A1GT MSX computer from my late uncle (RIP beloved family tech support), and I was wondering if you've covered such a device on your channel. For now, I am going to need to get proper video cables to plug into my HDTV monitor.
What in the world? It could have been a dual floppy disk add-on. Nice video.
Love your videos LD! ...This is bit off topic, but could you do a video on "WTF is a pc engine??" Every time I look at the thing, I'm just confused... Another gizmo with tons of attachments!
God, could you imagine the overnight success this would have been if it had a Pokémon title compatible with it.
You make such Great videos in redocumenting the Blasts From The Past. I Love It. I'm from the Netherlands and I owned A Super Nintendo. In de late 90, just months before buying the Playstation,
I Remember borrowing The super Gameboy add-on From A Friend.
At that time, I had hoped to finally Enjoy playing Gameboy games. Due to my handicap, in having very Poor eyesight, this wassn't Possible before. I Remember having a good time with it. In my opinion, the Only downside for me was that i couldn't play these games fullscreen. The outer Parts of the screen consisted of, a Virtual Gameboy Bezel and certain elements of the super Gameboy interface. If I Remember correctly, The program even allowed to paint on the virtual bezel. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Nice. I’m happy to see you branching out to more overt humor (versus your typical English deadpan).
I've downloaded a rom of the Sailormoon Sailorstars-game that was on the Sufami Turbo back in the '00s. Good ol' times!
13:33 end music:Sufami Turbo BIOS
I love you Lady Decade! Good job! Kiss from Italy!
Great gaming history and facts as always!
I always remember playing the last Sailor Moon game that was originally Sufami Turbo!
I like the idea of the Aladdin add-on, shame it didn't work out.
Love Lady Decade 👌
Using Gundam Wing Endless Duel music is always a good choice.
