    Hello Lady Decade, This is ZethN64, the Ura Project's lead. While I understand Ben is probably an easier person to get a hold of, he was nothing more than a concept artist while I was the one who did a majority of the 3D modeling and designing for the project as Ben was not around during a good portion of it. The project was put together back then as a way to give fans what they wanted, our own version of Ura Zelda. At the time there wasn't much known and a lot of websites claimed miyamoto interviews which were just false information written by hopeful fans. I spent a lot of time looking over japanese interviews in magazines such as Famitsu and having our team member ShadowFire translate stuff to get a better idea of what Ura Zelda was going to be about. Most of the interviews made mention of something similar akin to Master Quest which is why we decided to create our own, while incorporating beta elements.
    As for the files in the gigaleak, I do need to correct things. There was not a lot of stuff that had DD appended to it and the community was quick to make exclaiminations which aren't true. Looking over the files that are leftover regarding the DD, we can see that it was nothing more than Master Quest, or at least an incomplete version. The hooks used in OOT's code would only replace the main dungeons. The Ice Cavern, The Gerudo Training Grounds, and Ganon's castle would of been omitted if following directly with what OOT's cartridge code suggest. However in the DD files from the gigaleak, it seems they planned for some sort of patching method to get around the limitations of the cartridge hooks, to allow them to add the Ice Cavern and The Gerudo Training grounds, though Ganon's Castle would of still been omitted. The Gcube version, that they compiled a new rom for, actually contains the Ganon's Castle dungeon which is in the gigaleak. Regarding the boss rush mode that people are talking about, these are nothing more than test rooms, not boss rush modes. Some of the maps have ddtes which stood for dd test. These were to test DD functionality while the new dungeons were still being worked on, which is why they include things like map, compass, navi information hints, etc for something that isn't needed for a boss rush or a two map dungeon. These files names are nowhere mentioned in the files required to build the expansion disk. As for some of the Majora's Mask leftovers found in the Ocarina of Time files, these are appended with the Z2 abbreviation which all Majora's Mask maps have them. Most likely Anouma started testing in the OOT repo before moving it into its own Majora's Mask. Again, there are no references in the DD files for building the disk that reference these maps to be used. I figure I would clear up some of the confusion! Other maps shown in the video like Kokiri forest or Ganon's castle were just beta maps leftover from the development period, same goes with the old enemies such as the Iron knuckle, octorok, wallmaster and Stalfos.

      "we decided to create our own, while incorporating beta elements" this is the way to go, in my opinion. Scratch everyone's decades-long itches and include things like the Wind Temple, Ice Temple(perhaps its entrance would be located in the dubious cavern below Zora Hall; this could offer extra explanation as to why Zora Hall is frozen over in the future besides "Ganon evil", because you didn't complete the Ice Temple as a child, its power grew too much and took over Zora Hall above it), Light Temple (maybe accessible via Hyrule Castle, IF players can figure out how to get back in a second time...), Unicorn Fountain (with Beta Great Fairy, maybe she could transform Epona into a unicorn with infinite stamina), Ganondorf's Castle, and the Triforce (which could grant Link the use of the blade beam)... yes, I have a bunch of ideas for this. Keep in mind, this would mean that you might have to consider reworking existing dungeons to ensure that light themed puzzles are only in the light temple and wind themed puzzles are only in the wind temple, etc etc.
      I should tell you though, if you're serious about the project, YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR EXPECTATIONS REASONABLE AND MAKE A COMMITMENT TO FINISH. Too many Ura Zelda projects have failed at this point, so hopefully the giga leak has rekindled passion for the project. You also need to give gamers a legitimate reason to want to revisit such an old game. One suggestion I have would be to give players a much more difficult and secretive method of defeating Ganon: as child Link, before Ganon ever has the chance to take over Hyrule. Maybe you would have to clear the Wind and Ice Temples to acquire the new powers needed to access his otherwise completely hidden castle. There, you could duel him (only if you have blade beam, it would be a subsitute for the otherwise-necessary light arrows) and eventually chase him out to Hyrule on horseback while he rides his "phantom" horse (this could be where the unicorn upgrade would be necessary). Also consider adding some other cool stuff, like being able to play as Zelda, similar to how Majora's Mask gives players a short time to play as Kafei. There's an OOT randomizer that does this: ua-cam.com/video/VfUWuzuD4lA/v-deo.html

      @@0rnami I think I need to stop you right there for a moment, the Ura Project has been cancelled for over 8 years. There is no plan to start it back up again. I do have a new project which will reuse some of the unused ideas from the old project but it's not the same project at all. The old project was too ambitious for the tools and resources we had available at the time. I'm glad to let sleeping dogs lie and let the new project take a foothold without any of the drama/negativity that surrounded the old one.

    So what I’ve heard from interviews, it was stated that they began work on the expansion as Miyamoto requested, and it was Anouma who went to Miyamoto stating that they would rather create a new game as Ocarina of Time had already been perfected. Essentially they were given the go ahead if they could complete the game in one year, or to otherwise finish the expansion. They knew 1 year was not enough time to make a new game, so they reused all the assets from Ocarina of Time to create Majora’s Mask.
    So a lot of the ideas they had for URA Zelda ended up in Majora’s Mask, as it was unclear whether they could finish the game within the given time frame however, they stuck to rearranging dungeons in Ocarina of Time in case Majora’s Mask didn’t finish in time, they could just release the expansion instead.
    Then since both were technically done, it was decided to release as a bonus disc for Wind Waker.
    Now what people don’t know is that the canceled Zelda 64 also eventually released as Twilight Princess. In research I have done, I’ve come to the realization that nearly everything that got cut from Zelda 64 in its transition to Ocarina of Time had been repurposed in Twilight Princess including large plot elements, and even some nods to the fact that Ocarina of Time originally was a remake of Zelda II.
    Ironic really as I see a lot of fans only complain about Twilight Princess and beg for Zelda 64 to still be released in some shape or form, even though that’s exactly what Twilight Princess is.

    • @johnnyappleseed5590
      @johnnyappleseed5590 2 роки тому

      I need to play Twilight Princess still. I have Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask and the original 2 NES games for Gamecube or compatible Wii of course. I also have the original N64 versions too. Love these games, two of the best ever created.
      What killed Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword was the graphics. It seemed, especially in Skyward Sword, the system was trying to push graphics to levels it couldn’t handle and the graphics were terrible. Maybe the HD converter for Wii would make this better. I’d like to get it anyways since I haven’t played Twilight Princess. I hope it makes a noticeable improvement.

    It's Master Quest. Code in the rom supports it, Nintendo's claims support it. Extra maps in the leaks were for early Majora's Mask and not Ura. It's been released since 2002. You can go home now. Sorry to disappoint. The only thing cut from MQ was a boss rush (found in the gigaleak) which was eventually added to Ocarina 3D anyway. You can find more info about this pinned in the #tcrf channel in The Cutting Room Floor Discord server, said info I will post here:
    "Ura Zelda and Zelda X are different names for the same thing. Zelda X was an internal name, while Ura was the aimed release title (as you see with Master Quest in Japan). Ura Zelda (as I'll call it from here forward) was largely just a remixed Ocarina of Time. This was known because the only areas that we knew (at the time) that Retail Z64 tried calling from 64DD were dungeon maps.
    Much of the misunderstanding about Ura Zelda comes from a few things.
    1. Triforce Rumours. Everyone remembers them. Most of us probably hunted for them. It became a common rumour that Ura Zelda would unlock a way to get to the Triforce.
    2. Zeth's Ura Zelda project. A bunch of people thought this was recovering existing assets and then THAT spread around.
    3. Existing beta elements in the final rom (such as unfinished demo shots and cutscene areas) that were just off base enough from what we knew in the final to fan the flames.
    Many of these things led a large amount of people to believe that Ura Zelda would be a full story and world expansion to Ocarina of Time.
    As far as the Z2 Gaiden files in the OOT repo folders,
    The Ura Zelda team split from people who didn't want to work on just more OOT and that became the Zelda Gaiden (Majora's Mask) team.
    It's my opinion that most likely those were put in there by mistake. Maybe members who remained on both teams and accidentally pushed to the wrong repo."

      The standard English pronunciation underwent changes in the 18th-19th century, such as dropping "R's" in words like water (making it sound like "watah"), because it was becoming fashionable to do this at the time. This is why the British say words differently from how they're spelled today. According to historians, the standard American accent of today sounds more like the Queens English from the 1700s than the standard British accent (called received pronunciation) does.
      Not trying to brag... I just find it interesting :)

    I think it's a combination of working with time and resources (the game's development was delayed, leading to Miyamoto's famous but hit-or-miss quote on good games), and that the 'URA' tag sounds more mysterious than it needs to be. Game content gets trimmed out during development and often left in a folder somewhere on a server that will later hacked in 2020. :P
    The old fighting game Battle Arena Toshinden 2 on the PSX got re-released on the Saturn as Battle Arena Toshinden URA (Ultimate Revenge Attack, neat). It's the same game except it has sweet extras like a fully-voiced story mode for each character (presented like a visual novel). So you're correct in suggesting that an URA moniker is basically a re-issued game with the DLC and ironed out design added on. Nintendo just kept dicking around with the cartridge vs CD format for too long.

    • @Peannlui

    • @jacobmartens3810
      @jacobmartens3810 3 роки тому

      The most literal translation of "ura" would be "other side", "Ura Zelda" was probably just a place holder nickname, something like "Zelda Side B", I suspect if it had actually been released as planned it probably would have been as "Master Quest".

    OOT's got one of the most fascinating development history I've ever heard, it's a gift that's still giving to this day. Your point near the end about assets labelled "DD" is interesting because I did wonder if Snowhead Temple in Majora's Mask, due to its Water Temple-like hub structure, could have been recycled from that originally planned ice temple.

    • @evdestroy4121
      @evdestroy4121 3 роки тому +2

      The Majora's assets aren't for Ura. They're either the for the dungeons made in secret by Aonuma before they split to work on Majora or they're Majora maps that were accidentally pushed to the wrong repo by people working on both games. The final game in the code only calls for dungeon maps with the DD.

I remeber when this game was in development and when the DD stuff was rumored. There was so much out there about new story lines, dungeons, outfits, abilities. I remember talking to friends in highschool about this stuff. All that seemed to vanish until the hack happened, and I was like "I heard about that 20+ years ago." So weird.

    I do fully believe that Ocarina of time was supposed to have more dungeons and even more items since that hack happened. I don’t believe anything Nintendo said regarding that master quest was ura Zelda and that’s it. It doesn’t make sense. That being said it I believe Nintendo said or shigeru once said that cut elements from ocarina like the extra dungeons were changed up and recycled in other Zelda games that came after it. I read about that once. There is even code in ocarina from the hack where you can combine the medallions with your arrows to give your arrows different effects but what exactly where those effects is unknown but there are some very good logical guess on what each one does. This is my opinion of course but I have seen some stuff regarding ura zelda and I what I believed to be true regarding it. Great video though. 👍

    Ocarina Of Time really needs a remake and be made the way Nintendo originally intended it.

  • @MAGA_Patriot2024

    So, instead of releasing an add on for OOT (and getting paid once for it), the Greed Lords at Nintendo split it up into several games, thereby multiplying their revenue. How unsurprising of them...

    • @evdestroy4121

      it wasn't, URA is just MQ

    • @MAGA_Patriot2024
      @MAGA_Patriot2024 3 роки тому

      @@evdestroy4121 I agree...partially. My takeaway was they moved items & enemies around, and made them harder to kill in MQ. But some of it came out as MM, with the rest distributed elsewhere. It's a lot easier to produce content for "new" games when certain percentages of it are just pasted in.

    • @HighPriestFuneral
      @HighPriestFuneral 3 роки тому

      @@MAGA_Patriot2024 It's not that simple. Aonuma didn't want to just remix dungeons and call it there. (Enemies aren't more difficult to kill in MQ)
      So Miyamoto gave him a 1 year time limit to make his own work using Zelda 64 as a base, leading to Majora's Mask. Also MQ was never released as a standalone game. It was a bonus to Wind Waker. This is the opposite of greed. Nowadays I'm sure a similar package would be sold for 30 dollars as an "All Star" pack or some such.

    I ended up with a ROM of Master Quest on a N64 flash cart. It's odd because the buttons on screen are still Gamecube but it plays perfectly fine on the N64. I quite enjoyed playing it. It's a bit like playing an official ROM hack.

    • @evdestroy4121

      It's because it's just an N64 rom running on an emulator. Very impressive for its time for it to be running as well as it does.

    I always felt like the Wind Temple in WW felt like it was an idea intended for an earlier game. Hard to pinpoint why that is, except that the design of the place and the music both reminded me of OOT specifically. I'm really interested in stuff like this, like how Chrono Trigger got several bosses and areas that were probably cut from Secret of Mana.

    I think Twilight Princess is what Nintendo wanted Ocarina of Time to be, obviously they didn't intend OOT to have wolf link or the twilight but I think the epicness and scale of TP is what they wanted for OOT. That's part of the reason I think TP was made.

    I love Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask equally. I first started playing on NES when the first Legend of Zelda came out. I’ve played a majority of Zelda games through except about 5 of them. I haven’t got through Phantom Hourglass, Spirit tracks, Minish Cap, Four Swords or Twilight Princess. I’m pretty far into Spirit tacks and almost through Minish Cap though. Absolutely amazing games one of the best sagas on gaming history.
