- We arrived just two days before the park roads opened up for the summer, but nonetheless, we had such a memorable day at a lake bluer than blue. We hiked along a speck of the rim, had an epic snowball fight, and got views of the super moon rising over the lake. Our single day in Crater Lake was short, but beautiful, and satisfied, we drove northwest to Umpqua National Forest. This dense, green forest is home to a picturesque, hazy blue hot spring that cascades off a hillside- literally something you would imagine to be in a story book. We had the best time soaking in the forest and pretending to be magical fairytale characters. Oregon, you are a magical place with so much to offer. Excited for all else that’s to come!

First ... That chili looked amazing. I was at crater lake 2 weeks ago... So disappointed, only one good view and the drive in was long. I am just glad I had the America the Beautiful annual park pass or I would have been bummed paying the $35 dollar entrance fee. I am putting umqua on my list it looked amazing. Keep on keeping on.

I’ve never been to Oregon, I want to check out the hot springs big time. Love your stories, it is a bit creepy in the woods sometimes. I'm glad you were able to visit Oregon. I live just south of Crater Lake so I didn't notice any mention any of the waterfalls near Umpqua hot springs. You timed your visit well by the end of June the fires started here in Southern Oregon and you wouldn't have been able to get a clear view of the lake or get access to the hot springs. It's only cleared up the last few days and it's now the end of September. Happy travels to you.

I learned the hard way my first year in PNW, freezing my butt off in late May on a bike tour across Oregon that summer doesn’t really start until July here.

Crater Lake doesn't open until 4th of July many years. Not much snow this year. Mt. Thielsen is the mountain next to it.

Try cooking spray on your measuring cups before use.
oh no....sorry all the roads around the Crater were closed. It still looked amazing. I still have not made it there. I notice you make camp fires every so often. I know in California, you must have a campfire permit from the forest dept. Requires a bucket and shovel to control and put out your fire before leaving. Check the state you are in to be sure you dont get fined. Stop at a Ranger Station when you see one or look up the closet one to be sure everything is legal! Our fires have been so bad in recent years, they are very strict on campfires. They are not even allowed at times. Safe travels.
I ran into so much fire restriction all over the west... So got a rugged propane stove and the 5 gal. propane tank and it is legal everywhere. $52 dollars initially and it lasts for more than a month... Refill is about $8.

Omg you’re literally doing the trip I did last month. Umpqua hot springs are magical especially at night. I stayed there a week at a campsite up the road with a dude with a bus

Wondering if you ever have problem with mice getting in or try to get in your van while van camping in the woods?
Actually that is a major problem... My brothers van had to be junked. Mice got into the engine compartment. The van ran like crap until it finally died... Half the wires and hoses had been chewed up. In desert areas leave your hood open at night. Mice like closed spaces. Start your vehicle every morning at least. For mice inside... The tried and true mouse trap.🙄

The society creates these possibilities thinking about them (with the help of laws and media). Here in Spain the most terrifying cases of murders are usually the patriarchal ones.
