** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

You two are such different people. Always amazes me when people ask questions of preference.
Even when one of you thinks they know where the other is going and tries to finish the sentence, it's wrong.
I have been here since the beginning. It suddenly came to my attention that Daniel is fighting to tell a story and as eccentric as Rex is. He is desperately trying to give thoughtful notes. In essence, it's like Daniel is the historian and Rex was the guy that was actually there.
I understand that cask strength is more concentrated, so therefore more flavorful but I wondered if some of the reason why CS seems to be preferred is because as people's tolerance for the alcohol burn increases it take's a higher proof for us to get that kick we expect from it.
Thank you Daniel for your best mooch story. Can we also get Rex's best somm story?
Daniel....ninja mooch......nobody knew! 😂😂😂
Been watching you guys for a while now, just thought I would share a personal blend that I have been loving. It really is fantastic. Equal parts of stranahans colorado whiskey, redbreast 12 cask strength, and balcones single malt. Its incredible.
I'll have to try that. I have a bottle of Stranahan's that i'm not a fan of.
They have a Port Cask finish as well. I highly recommend sirs.
HotBrass T if you had to choose would you go with Stranahan single malt or the brekenridge port cask
@@tybothor7713 I havent had the one you're speaking of. But, the breckinridge port cask is great! It was one of the first whiskeys I purchased. Yes, I'm a whiskey noob. But I love it!
Sorry I'm late, there was an 18 Bowsette pileup on youTube.
Do you guys think you could do a vid on flasks? Construction material, care, etc?
There's this one bar near my friend's place, and everytime I'm visiting my friend we go there. The bartender in that bar is kinda cool guy and he has whiskey taste almost identical to mine - we walk in, and something like Laphroaig, Talisker, Ardbeg or something like that is always on the "menu" (he switches them like every week or so).
There's only one problem with that:
I walk in, say hi, and then I'm like "can I have this one?"
And EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. the bartender says: "Sorry, bro, I finished that one yesterday... It was too good... but I have some Jameson, if you want." -_- :D
It always pays to be a gentleman. Cheers.
OMG.... I was gifted a bottle of Breckenridge PX last week. I love it. The person who gave it to me said it was too smokey for her. I think that is the aftertaste Daniel is finding.
Breckenridge is nice. I had the cherry finish and loved it.
Danny and Rex the new Bert and Ernie lol love you guys ......😂
even in my old age I have a hard time remembering who is who, so I always have to remind myself that Bert loves Birds. if there was only a word that could help me to remember which one Daniel is.
Bert has a vertical head. Ernie has a horizontal head.
Did anyone else see that Matthew McCnaughey got his own bourbon from Wild Turkey? I really want you guys to try it, and give us your notes on it. I am really curious if its worth the purchase when I get back home in November. Love what you guys do. Keep it up!
what if you send PewDiePie a bottle of your whiskey to review it i think it would be good advertising
I made something I called a new fashioned you should try. It is 3 oz. bourbon or rye (both go well), 1 oz. honey syrup, 2 or 3 dashes orange bitters. I shake them together with no ice then pour into a rocks glass with an ice ball. No need for the orange slice as the bitters gives you that aroma but you can add it if you want.
Hey Daniel (and Rex I suppose...)
I was recently in Islay, and in the "Warehouse Experience's" I did at Bruichladdich and Lagavoulin they both mentioned the issues they're now having with sourcing sherry barrels. To quote Iain Mcarthur at Lagavoulin; "...men drank whiskey while the women drank sherry..." so there was a balance, now that has gone off balance and there isn't the demand for sherry that there used to be. Because of this sherry barrels are harder to source. I'm all for the idea of drinking sherry to help the whiskey industry, but my question is:
Are there specific wineries that we should be supporting as they are known as being a reliable source of barrels for the whiskey industry? Feel free to expand to Port, Madeira, etc...
Ken Miller should tell them to just age sherry and they can dump the shit for all i care, we just need the casks! Wonder if its the same for port..
Indeed it is the same for port
Ken, I’m seeing sherries and ports disappear from my local liquor stores and being replaced by other products. I love good sherries and ports but I am not sure the receding interest in these fortified wines will be reversed until the younger generations rediscover them OR they find new markets (Asia?). It’s really distressing to see fortified wines disappearing and then Scotch distilleries not being able to find the casks. I love both....😐
Yay we just started carrying this at work so excited to see what y'all think!
I love the New Fashioned Emma makes!
Hello gents! As a new member of the tribe (and fairly recent subscriber to the channel(s)) I was curious as to which top 5 (or 3 if thats easier) whisk(e)ys you each enjoy at home or in your free time? Thanks again for the excellent content, cheers!
I've been debating getting this bottle..now it's time to see if I should eventually.
SITTING HIGH IN GILEAD #1
Of all the chairs in the world
The barstool suits me best.
My butt cheeks never cramp or get too sore.
And being elevated, I see the world more clearly,
Especially through all those colored bottles,
And basking in the rosy glow from all my friends.
Oh, yes, I do like a barstool best,
Hoisting each glass until I met my rest!
I think there are loud whiskey enthusiasts who give MGP whisky a hard time. I get the criticism when a company doesnt divulge or omits where they got it - normalizing it in the process - but they also get heat for letting us know. I really dont think the majority of whisky drinkers or enthusiasts care, but there are those who seem to blow this out of proportion. I only see MGP as a way for smaller less funded businesses to do their own thing and create unique whisky. It helps guys like you who cant distill their own, but can at least age and blend your own.
This is one of my go to bottles in my collection lol but I would have to agree is does have a less then desirable after tastes... but the front and nose are great!!! It makes one hell of an old fashioned!!!
The after taste mixed with citrus is a great thing!!
when are you guys going to review proper 12? cant get it here in AUS yet and need to enjoy it vicariously haha
Just a bourbon fan, looking for a review on 1792... hint..hint..😉
Colorado does some good whiskies....but if you want to try a great one try Woods out of Salida Colorado.
r dizzle 👍🏻😎
really enjoyed this one. great to hear Daniel's mooch stories. the one with the bar owner is a great example of 'living it large!' : )
I have a bottle of Colonel EH Taylor 4 Grain. Its good.
Try Celp - The sweetened whisky expericence
Come to Toad in the Hole Whisky Bar in Winnipeg. Usually some hard to find malts there. Plus I am here, we can lay down some gigabytes.
On the subject of disclosure, there may be some distilleries that don’t want companies who source their whisky to say. Thoughts?
Cheers🥃🥃🥃

I picked up a bottle of the Sherry cask and the bitter after taste had me throw the entire bottle down the drain. It was not pleasant at all. Sadly I didn’t feel that if I let it breath it was going to get much better. Needless to say that is one I’ll never buy again.
Can I request Rex month be delayed since October is my birthday?
How dare you. I hope your meat loafs and yer hotdog stands while in the dentist chair...l0l
I just picked up a bottle of mcclellands speyside single malt and I wanted to know if you guys have tried it and is there anything you can tell me about it thanks love the show
Did you consult the lawyer about that bitters thing, or just assume that it would count? Most alcohol laws seem to not apply to bitters (even those made from alcohol) due to the fact that they're considered "non-potable".
Side note, which bitters did you end up using if you're willing to share? The only glycerin-based bitters I know of are Fee Brothers and they're actually made in my area.
Would you guys say that bitterness at the end might be a sulfur blast from sherry cask?
Hey guys my name is Joe and I'm a knife maker from Nebraska. While researching I found that some Scottish swords were christened with whiskey. Do you have any suggestions for what I can use to christin knives with
Make your own bitters!!!
This.
Ohh another whisky from my home state! I'm excited to see what these more boutique-y distilleries will be producing in 10 yrs.
Thomas, where in Colorado? I’m in the Denver area.
@@ericschwab409
Sup dude, I'm in Longmont
No love for Campbeltown Daniel?😢 such an under appreciated region.
Daniel, in all of your nerdy whiskey research, do you know if there is a genetic component to tasting whiskey like there is with cilantro or PTC?
Second :D And yes, Anders, you won.
EDIT: And Daniel is correct, by the service well is the perfect place to sit.
Should provide the list of the 100 people you plan to send the whiskey to.
Yup every time Rex reads out the abv. Classic mooch move. It requires zero prep or research
Did Still It's special sauce make it to through to the vault
Have you guys tried the springbank local barley series? I have the 11 yo in my collection for a rainy day. And want to find out what I should expect?

Review Proper 12 just for fun? 😄
great show guys 👌
ive been to several whiskey bars and when i ordered a few different things two of the three were responded to by "wait... we actually have that??"
Rex, we call that corner booth "The Gunslinger's Seat"
Wild Bill Hickok would be proud...
I'm wondering if anyone has ever voiced their concern over Daniel's less than optimal knife skills. Perhaps, during Rex month, for safety, Rex can confiscate his blade? Just a friendly citizen's concern.
Karen Lee yeah, I flinch every time he throws that dull knife all over the bottle top cutting it open. It's a travesty imho. Lol
He claims to have excellent knife skills. I would agree if he were a toddler.
Maybe he's just nervous on camera?
J. Riddle please.
Thanks for answering, although in the words of last RexWeek, UNSATISFIED. I got that Daniel goes for Islay, and exotic islands, then highlands (you single-malt hipster scotch-hound, you)... but that's a region, not an order. What's the exotic you seek, that one rare breed that says, "BEHOLD. I am Daniel Whittington, of the bear and kilt, tremble before my knowledge and despair." And I didn't even get a region from Rex, he was just... somm'd over. With a freakin' mooch story, no less. Shenanigans of the highest order! My questions, remain, sirs. The pweeble demand answers.
Most everyone who's looking for a good, rare whisky is looking for a Brora. If they're not they should be.
Awesome reviews on Colorado's finest. Would you guys be willing to review a local favorite in Colorado Springs; Axe and Oak distillery?
How could Breckenridge say where it came from if it's sourced from multiple places?
Bring back those bag pipes gents.
More cocktails?? LEVEL 4 SSOOOOOMMMMMM
If you give, you shall receive... #Somm/Mooch ez
#toast
I'm exactly like Daniel and I try to get the bartender to go, "oh yea that's a good whiskey", but most of the time they look at me like im from mars because the whiskey i order is so obscure they've never served it.
You guys should review Southern Comfort. It's totally a whiskey, it says the word whiskey on the bottle. It'll be funny because it will upset the hardcore whiskey people.
So that's where the cinnamon in the delicious New Fashioneds came from
Sounds good! 👍
You can only use the stuff you make??? omg 🤦♂️The only liquor laws in the US should be "truth in labeling" thats it!!! We should use our crowd source powers and get this crap changed!
Daniel claims that his story was his best mooch. I dare say this channel itself has been Daniel and Rex's best mooch. Just how many bottles do they have piled on the floor that they didn't pay for?
#teambruichladdich
The new fashioned tastes like what fireball would taste like if it was a good whiskey.
He was totally hiding it! Why wouldn’t he have mentioned it before hand? A simple “oh by the way, I started dry week two days early so I could do this thing” would have sufficed. He made a conscious decision to omit the truth until confronted then pulled the old “technically, I didn’t break the rules”. I’m calling it Rule Snobbery! We all know that guy who says “technically, it’s allowed” during board games.
Daniel, we’re not mad. We are just disappointed.
Recompense will come during #REXMONTH.
Damn. Third by one second
2:43 Doom Eternal reference?
why are you using a gerber paraframe, you should get a zero tolerance 0452cf, its much more classy than that piece of garbage
Try proper 12?
Instead of #RexMonth i propose #DanielThreeYearsInOakBarrel
REX MOOOONTH
“Nice”.
👋😎🥃
Why? Because there is a huge number of bourbon snobs that as soon as you say someone is using someone else's juice, they snub their nose. That's it.
Take out the other channels
American rules for alcohol are weird. You cant sell anything outside of your own product alcohol wise? Is a bar licence not a thing on distillery grounds??
It depends on the particular state and the county and the municipality. It’s a massive mishmash of different rules
Eric Schwab Yea get that impression, just seems messy and silly. That bit that they can only sell the alcohol they produce...... and the restrictions on shipping etc. Im surprised there are as many distilleries as there are
