  • I traveled to Iceland with only my Kanken! I wasn't sure what my bag limitations were and since this was a quickly planned trip, I didn't want to be charged extra for something I didn't need! So, I pack lightly!
    **Note: I went to Iceland in the Fall - late August /early September **

    Thank you for actually showing a truly minimal bag! I also appreciate how your journal & art supplies were more valuable than extra outfits "to look cute in all the photos" as I've heard other supposed Minimalist Parkers proclaim.

      Your welcome. My goal was to stay warm while camping in a car! That's very different to going to Paris or London. I was happy to wear my sweater. That was cute enough for me. 😁

    Thank you for sharing this video! This is the way I like to travel as well, as a plus size woman even. 😉 We are cruising to Alaska for 7 days and this is the way we are going…in a personal item bag. 👍🥰 My back pack is slightly larger than yours and I won’t be bringing a journal so I just know I can make it work….again. I appreciate your sharing with us! (And please ignore the insensitive comments, they just aren’t ready to take the plunge and try).

    it's amazing what can fit in the Kanken classic. I've got one too and the one thing I wish it had was bigger side pockets for my water bottle, otherwise a fantastic little bag.

    • @sydneysunnyray
      @sydneysunnyray  10 місяців тому +1

      I've used mine so much that it looks horrible at this point. I'm ok with that. As for the side pocket, you can buy an add on so that it will fit a water bottle! It slips into the existing pocket. Check out their website. There might be a few on the used market or on Amazon, as well.

    I was surprised at how small a percentage was made up by clothes. I pretty much only bring clothes, very minimal toiletries, and my phone and iPad (loaded with books). We have a trip coming up to Norway and are just taking a carry-on, so I’m focusing on silk and merino base layers, with just one sweater and jacket that I’ll wear on the plane. I bought gorgeous lopapeysa as my souvenir in Iceland. I found it in a thrift shop in Akureyri, for a fraction of the cost of the ones in gift shops.

    I am a frequent business traveler (in fact I am in TN about 5 times every year - I love it there) and this was fun to see your packing ideas. I have never been to Iceland, but been to Finland, Sweden, Norway many times - and like you I try to leave room for the warm clothing that I will purchase up there. I tend to pack heavier than you, unfortunately I have to bring stuffy business clothes along with my hiking/camping clothes LOL I cannot believe you forgot your nail clippers - the most important items on the plane are nail clippers, ear plugs and I would list FOOD but that is not that as important on international travel. I LOVE your travel journal and water colors - but you are so much more artistic than me - my travel journal is just my boring old cursive writing LOL thank you for the video.

      Glad that you enjoy my travel journal. It is hard work and often a day behind or blank spaces to draw in later.
      Thanks for watching!

      I bought the fjallraven kanken strap pads. This helped a lot. I traveled before without them and it hurt a bit. I only had my bag packed and on my back in the airport. This trip we got a van and I unpacked my bag to use. So there wasn't a lot of transfer travel cause we slept in the van.
      Hope this is helpful.

    Washing up what u take off at night and hanging them to dry on hot towel rack overnight is a smart idea, specially if you carry easy hanwashable, drip dry, no crease fabric tops and bottoms. I find light weight georgettes to be the most suitable as they have a good fall and look good; they dont loose their shape, colour doesnt run, are comfortable to wear as they dont cling and allow air to flow around and keep your body cool, and best if all are easy to wash n quick to dry with ni need to iron.

    This would only work if (1) you're thin and your clothing is small and (2) if you don't mind wearing your clothes more than once before washing them. This would never work for me: I'm plus-sized so my clothing takes up more room, and the idea of wearing any clothing more than once without washing them grosses me out.

      I'm a big girl and I can see what you are saying but it can be done. I use my kanken for 1-2 night trips and it works pretty well. I use an eagle creek packing cube for my clothes and only take what I need. It is very freeing to have no bulky luggage with you. And if I have to wash something out in the sink it's ok.

      I also get grossed out wearing the same clothes, especially since I sweat easily. A tip for that is to find a place that has laundry or is near a laundromat. I also bring bar soap that i can use to wash things like underwear, spandex,and thinner tops.
