    Love your video. It’s nice to see a minimal backpack - so many people say minimal and then they have a carryon suitcase, a backpack and a purse. Thank you for being truly minimal.

    Thank you for actually showing a truly minimal bag! I also appreciate how your journal & art supplies were more valuable than extra outfits "to look cute in all the photos" as I've heard other supposed Minimalist Parkers proclaim.

    Thank you for sharing this video! This is the way I like to travel as well, as a plus size woman even. 😉 We are cruising to Alaska for 7 days and this is the way we are going…in a personal item bag. 👍🥰 My back pack is slightly larger than yours and I won’t be bringing a journal so I just know I can make it work….again. I appreciate your sharing with us! (And please ignore the insensitive comments, they just aren’t ready to take the plunge and try).

    it's amazing what can fit in the Kanken classic. I've got one too and the one thing I wish it had was bigger side pockets for my water bottle, otherwise a fantastic little bag.

    • @sydneysunnyray
      @sydneysunnyray  Рік тому +1

      I've used mine so much that it looks horrible at this point. I'm ok with that. As for the side pocket, you can buy an add on so that it will fit a water bottle! It slips into the existing pocket. Check out their website. There might be a few on the used market or on Amazon, as well.

    I was surprised at how small a percentage was made up by clothes. I pretty much only bring clothes, very minimal toiletries, and my phone and iPad (loaded with books). We have a trip coming up to Norway and are just taking a carry-on, so I’m focusing on silk and merino base layers, with just one sweater and jacket that I’ll wear on the plane. I bought gorgeous lopapeysa as my souvenir in Iceland. I found it in a thrift shop in Akureyri, for a fraction of the cost of the ones in gift shops.

    I am a frequent business traveler (in fact I am in TN about 5 times every year - I love it there) and this was fun to see your packing ideas. I have never been to Iceland, but been to Finland, Sweden, Norway many times - and like you I try to leave room for the warm clothing that I will purchase up there. I tend to pack heavier than you, unfortunately I have to bring stuffy business clothes along with my hiking/camping clothes LOL I cannot believe you forgot your nail clippers - the most important items on the plane are nail clippers, ear plugs and I would list FOOD but that is not that as important on international travel. I LOVE your travel journal and water colors - but you are so much more artistic than me - my travel journal is just my boring old cursive writing LOL thank you for the video.

      I bought the fjallraven kanken strap pads. This helped a lot. I traveled before without them and it hurt a bit. I only had my bag packed and on my back in the airport. This trip we got a van and I unpacked my bag to use. So there wasn't a lot of transfer travel cause we slept in the van.

    Washing up what u take off at night and hanging them to dry on hot towel rack overnight is a smart idea, specially if you carry easy hanwashable, drip dry, no crease fabric tops and bottoms. I find light weight georgettes to be the most suitable as they have a good fall and look good; they dont loose their shape, colour doesnt run, are comfortable to wear as they dont cling and allow air to flow around and keep your body cool, and best if all are easy to wash n quick to dry with ni need to iron.

    I fee like this wouldn't work for plus-sized women like me, whose clothing takes up more room, and also, I hate wearing any clothing more than once before washing them. (Not one of those people who can wear my jeans three days in a row - that super grosses me out!) I'm going to Japan in the fall with only a carry-on spinner and a backpack. I'm taking just 3 outfits (which are doubling as sleepwear), plus the clothes I'll be wearing, and several packets of laundry detergent. I'm hoping everything will fit. And that doesn't leave much room for bringing home souvenirs. But I've heard it's really difficult to get around Japan with large suitcases. So nervous!

    • @sydneysunnyray
      @sydneysunnyray  3 місяці тому +1

      @@lz738This is just my experience for my camper van trip in Iceland. I was in Japan last-last summer. I wore clothes a few times before washing. Also, I packed totally differently (I was going to a different place and I was pregnant). I packed one bag only half way and packed a carry on personal suitcase (for under the seat of the airplane). By the end I had a full suitcase (carryon) and max personal item. We sent one bought item by mail (the store offered the service and it was cheap).
      You can look into luggage shipment in Japan (from hotel to hotel), like Yamato.
      Also, I think every hotel we stayed at had self service laundry, even the hostel! (Free or pay)
      And don't be scared to mail things back home.
