======== En Livstid I Krig LYRICS =======
Men vem saknar mig?
Så se mig som den
En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
Men vem sörjer mig?
Gick ut i strid för Sverige, blev döpt i blod
Där ute väntar döden, inte hjältemod
I fält där fränder faller, hörs ingen sång
Utmanar våra öden, ännu en gång
Långt hemifrån
Döpas och dö i strid
Och världen brann
För kriget det kan
Förgöra en man
Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland
Men vem saknar mig?
Så se mig som den
En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
Men vem sörjer mig?
Och när min tid har runnit ut
Vem bryr sig då?
De kämpar på
Får en soldat ett värdig slut?
Få somna in
Försvinna bort
Och aldrig vakna
För kriget det kan
Förgöra en man
Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland
Men vem saknar mig?
Så se mig som den
En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
Men vem sörjer mig?

I don't speak a word of Swedish but this version sounds way better imo. And sadder, for some reason.
i thought exactly the same, but i acctually want to learn swedish...
If you watch a video with English subs the lyrics quite a bit sadder
The english version sings more about the war in generall while this version follows a soldier in this war which is more personal and sad in a way
Go Google the translated lyrics man...
It is sadder. The lyrics are about the individual soldier instead of the war in general. "The war can destroy a man. I give my life for my fatherland. But who will miss me? See me like a husband, a friend. Father and son who will never return. But who mourns me?"
As a finnish man, this Swedish version is twice more powerful than the English version.
Mitt brodersland
Näin on!
ja det är det
I'd say the same, as an Ukrainian man.
as dutch speaking guy also
"So see me as such, a husband, a friend, father and Son who never returns home" that lyric literally hit me like a truck
I'm going through some tough time and as crazy as for some it sounds... This song help me a lot. More or less I lost everything but stand up again but will never return again.

Congrats on surviving. I bet you've been throigh hell.
The 2 versions of this song truly express the Sabaton's principle of oppose war, honor soliders - the English version sings about the 30 years war in a very negative light, while the Swedish version immortalizes an unknown soldier and his forgotten peers.
"Has man gone insane" is the most powerful line in the English lyric, while "Men vem sörjer mig?" ("But who'll mourn for me") is easily what makes most people tear up in the Swedish version.
I'd say that "father and son that's never comming home is rhe strongest line. 😭
@@renos3565I cry silently to the whole song, friend 😭
@@renos3565Also the part that get's me. It's a line in the same league as "no parent should bury their child" in LotR, except related to a real war.
For me, the hardest hitting line in both versions is the "They’ve been to war a decade, Two more to come".

I was there. A German trying to sing in swedish. What a day it was
For our none Swedish speaking friends :)
"I look around and see my home disappear
My time at home now feels far too short
Only youth, hardly a man when duty called me
If I get to see my home again, I do not know
Among relatives from my village, I went out to battle
And the world burned
For the war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who misses me?
So see me as it
A husband, a friend
Father and son never coming home
But who mourns me?
Went out in battle for Sweden, was baptized in blood
Out there, death awaits, not heroism
In fields where relatives fall, no song is heard
Challenging our destinies, once again
Far from home
Be baptized and die in battle
And the world burned
For the war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who misses me?
So see me as it
A husband, a friend
Father and son never coming home
But who mourns me?
"Guitar solo"
And when my time has run out
Who cares then?
They are struggling
Does a soldier get a dignified end?
Get to sleep
Disappear
And never wake up
For the war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who misses me?
So see me as it
A husband, a friend
Father and son never coming home
But who mourns me?"

I know this song is about a soldier’s experience in the thirty years war but it could honestly fit with any soldier, in any war from ancient times to modern day. That’s what makes the song so powerful in my opinion
I think that’s really the beauty - and tragedy - of this song. Every time I hear the chorus, I picture in my head film and images from the World Wars, of soldiers from various countries with their children, family, friends, etc. It’s definitely a powerful song.
@my toughts that’s a good point
Brothers in arm, the same sacrifice, from the times of our forefathers till now.
When they come home, they can’t speak. The pain is too great to load onto their families. Sometimes, they’ll tell a trusted man. The stories are appalling.
@@pepaphantom I think of a single WW1 man hobbling out of a foxhole to his brother's corpse as the war cries of the bayonet charge grow ever louder... They will show no quarter...
An anthem for every soldier who fell defending their homeland. Thank you, Sabaton. This resonates deeply in my soul.
We clearly hear different messages in the music, you and I. What I hear is a testament to the pointlessness of dying in war, not a celebration of it.
@@ivarbjornson533 This is what the song is about, it's a strict anti-war song. Fallen soldiers are victims, not heroes.
@@millanoire I disagree partially. down here In NZ/Aussie we have a huge culture of revering our fallen heroes because they fought to keep us safe. Yes, they were victims, I don't disagree there, but they are heroes and should be treated as such. Heroes
I'm a native English speaker (from England). Listened to this for the first time months ago and it hit so much harder than the English version, so much so that I decided to start learning the language. I'm so glad I did, because this song rings forever true about the reality of war.

It's not only an extra flavour. Lyrics of this song are much better, more heartbreaking in swedish than in english. English lyrics are about religion as a one of the reasons of war. Swedish tell about soldier's pain.
A chorus this large sounds so amazing.
Epic, isn't it?
@@Sabaton Yes it really feels epic. Quite a difference indeed. Thank you for sharing.
They say they glorify war, they say they are Rasist, but they really just write about human history. This song is a good example. Their singing about family members who doesn’t comeback after wars. And how war can destroy a human. For me this doesn’t sound like glorify war. It sounds like true music 🎵🤘❤️
This is where such "smart people" live?
To be clear: IDIOTS say that Sabaton glorifies war. IDIOTS say Sabaton are racists.
Anyone who actually listens to the songs and knows about this little thing called CONTEXT knows that they're simply singing about history and trying to make those songs have an impact.
I've actually never heard anyone say that or seen that in the comments but I didn't exactly search for it.
@@Mowraq They've been barred from performing on some countries in recent years because of some songs that have been improperly considered to be glorifying war crimes.
They don t glorify war, the sing for all fallen soldiers in history. All their songs are about battles and the men who went through them. War exist since the tribe try to beat up the next one eons ago. At the end it is always a human tragedy, and they sing about that.

Here is a letter from Wilhelm von Schwerin who was a 15 year old Swedish soldier who fought in the finnish war in 1808
"Kronoby Headquarters 17 September 1808"
"My beloved parents!"
"i have not since Grisslehamn found any place I could write from, for the post office always follows the headquarters, which is far apart from the army. Since we went and drifted on the lake until the end of August, we finally got to land in Kristinestad.
The disembarkation went in one day, and at night we marched a mile to Lappfjärd. We lay and slept as best we could, when the alarm went off and I had to leave my comfortable bed.
The deal lasted 5 to 6 hours, but no battery was allowed. The Russians were defeated, and we pursued them all the way to Ömossa, 20 km from Lappfjärd. There was a halt, and Lieutenant Colonel Drufva was detached with 500 men and 2 cannons under my command to remain here with orders to fight to the last man.
Here was a pitiful location! The people saw themselves 20 miles apart from the army, stationed against the main force of the Russians. My people were sad, they saw the uplanders being released every evening, but for nine days they had to lie incessantly on the field guard and, together with me, were soaked with heavy rain for many nights and days.
Nothing but my tender care for them could keep them from complaining, I always and gladly use my excess money of my allowance for their benefit. 9th in the morning we were violently attacked.
I would now for the first time go into the fire myself, I would bring my people there for the first time, and I would with 2 cannons defend the place against the enemy's infinite number of howitzers and cannons. The first was not difficult; I immediately took my cold and remained cold. The second was worse. My people were in the fire for the first time, they looked for the bullets and ran behind just at the most crucial moment.
I could not run after, but did myself 5 man service at the cannon. When the business had slowed down somewhat, I went almost exhausted after them, imagining their cowardice, then they all sprang forward like lit candles each in their places. Here people fell like grass. Now it was time.
The Cossacks charged at my exposed cannons 3 times, threw their darts, but I met them with canisters, and they withdrew. In this way, we continued the business under a constant fire for 5 hours and retreated 1 1/2 miles, where content was made. Here came Drufvan with the whole corps of officers, embraced me, thanked me for saving them.
The people cheered and wished me a lasting welfare. Soon we had a battle, the longest and bloodiest here in this war. This stood at Oravais and lasted from kl. 6 in the morning until kl. 11 in the evening. I entertained the enemies alone until dinner by firing my cannons, when at this time I was wounded.
They were just about to drag away when one of my men told me that I was run over: I scratched myself, sat on a cannon horse, for my own was shot, let the people cheer, put me first in the lead, shouted comrades, follow me: I commanded march, march and struck through the enemy, who greeted me with a bayonet.
I got 3 bullets in my coat, and many of my people were stabbed. Generals Adlercreutz and Vegesack thanked me most sincerely. In the morning I would go out and reconnoiter, when I got a bullet through the hat, from which I fell over.
I discovered the devil behind a rock, took the rifle of a soldier and shot him. In the evening towards dusk I got a new injury, they dragged me to the nearest village, where I lay until the enemy's bullets came in through the windows.
I would have stayed, if not for a noble officer I had not yet gotten to know threw me on his back and we happily got away. Our loss is probably 2,000 men and 30 to 40 officers. General Aminoff, the generous man, picked me up, and now I'm pretty well."
"Goodbye, beloved and worshiped parents and siblings! Live always well, wish you always affectionate son, brother and friend."
"Wilhelm"
it ended with "The general is in such a hurry that I have no time to enumerate the number of lost officers of the Upland and Westmanland regiments."
Wilhelm passed away 27 september 1808 at an age of just 15, 10 days after this letter was written

Same here. Sabaton gave me so much interest in Swedish history
I don't speak the language, and to be honest before I found this band, I never cared. I also didn't care much about history. This was the very first song I ever heard by this band, the Swedish version. I was already in a particularly rough patch in my life, and then I found this randomly. I broke down. I could not understand a word of it, but it crushed me that night. I've always believed music affects so many people because it's pure energy and that night, it could not have been more true for me. I searched everything I could about this song and band that brought me quite literally to my knees that night. I found so many more songs, about history, things I never knew. It was the beginning of my absolute love for them. My fathers side of the family was in the military, and I never really cared in the past. This band changed that. I can't explain it really, and to the average netzien, it likely sounds like the ramblings of a madman. I accept that. I wanted to say that Sabaton, you changed quite a bit for me that night and those going forward. Thank you. I hope one day I will find the courage and the means to see you in concert for myself. Best wishes to you and yours.

I don't speak Swedish and I went to see the translation of this song. It made me tear up. What a beautiful song.
Then I arrived on this video... guys I can't stop sobbing... this so powerful. It makes me think of 2 of my friends who were soldiers in the French Army and died in mission for our Country.
Thank you for those beautiful emotions Sabaton.
You are the best guys.

Årets folkbildare SABATON 👍
Just hearing everyone saying - JAG GET MIT LIV FÖR MITT FOSTERLAND,
Really hits the spot
This song makes me proud to be Swedish even though I’m not
That's sabaton for you, makes you patriotic towards countries that you have never even been in
Imagine how proud it makes us
Hahaha I love it :*
Ryser varje gång jag hör den här.❤️🇸🇪
Sabaton does not glorifying the war...they just love the soldiers, not those who commit atrocities, but those who think about home and loved ones, those who died holding a photo of a kid, wife, family, girl, in their hands, those who gave everything and got nothing in return, not even a descend burial...You got to love these guys...
this has to be the most heartfelt Sabaton performance ever
Either this or final solution
Konungens Likfärd
the hammer has fallen, final solution and en livstid i krig all have heartfelt performances really
Thats the best song i have ever heard
sabaton is the best man in the world
Goddamn Right!
My dad has spoken swedish to me my entire life, even though we live in Finland.
Always, no matter the ocasion he speaks swedish to me and as such I associate the swedish language with him and to hear a song sung of soldiers being sent into a meat grinder never to see their families again....
It hits a completely other way especially with the current political situation and him still being the age where he would be called to service for his homeland
🇸🇪🇫🇮
Don't know about you, but this song hits even deeper during the conflict in Ukraine. Almost all the lyrics can be aplied to anybody draged to that horror.
Sabaton, this song is trully a masterpiece and we should send its message to the world.
True words
So True.... Glad i can understand o great portion of the lyrics since i am a dane
I do not speak Swedish but learned the chorus of this song and one of the verses while at home during the pandemic. I personally think it was one of the best things I have done over the pandemic, and now with everything going on, it means even more to me now. Now I want to work on the other two verses.
listen the "Coat of Arms", that the story about Greek who made contratack against fasists (Mussolini) at 1940, that the way how we fight and will defeat the putin )
@@MechWomanWarrior15 the swedish version of this song is far more emotional compared to the english version. I'm Swedish myself so I'm biased, but this song.. it has to be sung in Swedish cause of the emotions the singer portrays in his voice!
For any potential history buffs out there (Who might be interested in Swedish history) to have some context to all of this. During the time period this album is taking place, the common people were incredibly poor. I'd guess that an aprox 90-95% of the SWE-population were farmers, farmhands or indentured servers of various forms, people outside of the wealthy elite had very little power and democracy was hardly conceptionalized at all as the monarchy and church held most of the power. People were overburden with taxation as many of the Swedish kings waged wars which forced many young men who had only just started having some leverage in their own homesteads and farms out to die in wars they had very little to say about at all, many of them hardly ever even reached the battlefields at all since a lot of the war camps they were assigned to were raging with various diseases.
So I find a very deep poetic meaning in this entire album when I have the history to compare it to, Sabaton indeed sparks the interest to dig deeper into history with such a way of making history live through their music.
Tack för allt er fenomenala arbete med musiken, vi ses i Februari i Huskvarna.
Well explained, why the song and text is so impactful for people who know the history of that era in Sweden!
That has got to be the most sensational and humbling moment to be felt, to see and hear all of those people singing your song, the energy must have been amazing there
You guys make it so special
I was there, one of the most powerful events I've experienced.
Not only being there, but also sharing it with all those there. We were one at that moment, somewhat an intimate feeling.
Having the ability to relive that moment through this videos is also awesome but the real deal can never be forgotten.
It was fucking unbelievable!!!
I was there that night and if can only say that it was a magical night.
Humbling??? I think you mean "flattering". This moment is the opposite of humbling.
Spectacular song absolutely beautiful greetings from Scotland🏴🇸🇪
Thank you! Greetings from Sweden
The spiritual atmosphere this gave off. You can imagine every light is a soldier who passed during war throughout history.
I swear, every time En Livstid i Krig, Konungens Likfärd, or Ruina Imperii begin to play, I have to fight back tears and everyone around me is super confused.
When you're in a public transport and it plays in your headset is a real challenge
Konungens Likfärd and Ruina Imperii I can handle, but I’m never not at least fighting back crying loudly whenever this beauty comes up
i cry tears of joy everytime tour or an album is anounced. and soon my favorite history teachers are in my town. and yes i will cry like a soldiers wife wich man comes back home.
Imagine the validation of writing a song and having a stadium full of people know it word for word and sing it loud and proud.
I am 62 years old and just discovered this band! So proud of this band!
I'm from Mexico. Listening to metal suddenly this song came out. I had never heard of Sabaton. The music captivated me, but when I turned on the English subtitles I was deeply moved. What a song, epic !!! Now I’m a Sabaton fan
Do you guys play at weddings?
Edit: Tommy's quitar solo at 3:39 is just beautiful.
Thats actually a very good question Xd
I am seriously considering asking these guys to play at my 30th birthday! I wonder if they'll do it if the price is right...
@@TheMmus whats the price! Of birthday!?
Lmao, invite me please !!
@@bboy7656 I chuckled when I read your comment with Joakim's voice in my head :D
Last time I came this early, my girlfriend broke up with me.
Now Im crying, but not for her
Long live Sabaton ❤
Lol dude
You arent the only one who has suffered a break up comrade. But Sabaton always makes that hole in our heart a little bit smaller

I hope to travel to Sweden one day to hear them play this. Brings a tear to my eye
If you can go see them :)
Jag är född i Polen men jag dör för Sverige vilken dag som helst!
I am a soldier for my country. After looking up the lyrics i was in tears. If I ever fall in combat i want this to played at my funeral. Also hand out the lyrics for the people there so they understand why i did this.
Sabaton after seeing you live as well i was amazed. Thank you for the music and never give up.

5:32 biggest goosebumps. My proudest moment of my life was to return back to civilian life after service to have a coffee with my father who also served a generation ago.
This is beautiful. I'm from Russia and I never thought that I could get such a big interest for other country's history and language. Just, damn! Melody, theme, language, meaning, all of this came into a masterpiece of a song! This concert footage is just wow! Made me tear up a bit at the beginning, all these lights in perspective, such an awesome crowd of people, singing the lyrics on their own, the recent events that made me fear for my young life... By law, people my age have to serve one year in the army. And this song perfectly represents what I feel. This war is terrifiying.
But even before I've read the translation of lyrics, the sheer atmosphere of this song made it my favorite! Absolutely awesome.
I hope that you are doing fine and that you stay safe through all this. In the end regardless of our nation or leaders we are all fellow people.
@@galacticbananastopmotions7292 man, All is good, thanks for good words. With love from Russia ♥️
@@galacticbananastopmotions7292 If only more people saw it like this, both sides people are victims, you can argue all you want about the justification or not of the war, but the death of anyone from either side is wrong and should never be justified, like some people do for Russians/Ukranians depending on their own views
Greetings from sweden my friend. This war is benificial to noone. I hope you stay safe during this nonsense!
Stay brave warrior, you’re strong 🙏
4:39 this part honestly gives me chills, you have very deep lyrics, an amazing singer, an amazing audience and it all adds up to create one of the best moments in metal history.
Svenskar are you awesome! Greetings from Poland! 🇵🇱🇸🇪
You polish are awsome as well love from Sweden
It's been a year. I still can't stop listening to this on repeat.
I don't even speak Swedish
Don't need to, metal is universal 😎
One of the most powerful songs I've ever heard in my life🇸🇪🇫🇮
Fun fact, my motherside ancestor Erkki Sallinen was a guerrilla leader in Hattarnas ryska krig (1742). He did lot of damage with his troop in Karelia. Thanks Sabaton from this song and greetings from Finland our swedish brothers :)
Sadly alot of our people died for karelen
I'd really wish that more countries like Sweden have a bigger metal culture...i mean they could sing the entire song by themself those fucking guys. I went to your concert in Milan and it was awesome, the place was probably maxed out, and we loved you guys. Probably the best metal band around right now so really, well done Sabaton
I was there too. Great concert, but nothing like this video.
thought metal concerts where like that outside of Sweden as well, but really loving how being a metalhead is in Sweden. Such a wonderful place to be that
@@jimpanrooney Yes and no, sometimes you'll find the song that everybody knows and well we will sing it, but many times most of the people knows only a part (or none) of the lyrics. With that being said, every concert of them is extremely fun
Before the song Jocke started a competition between Gothenburg and Stockholm (the next tour stop), so that's the reason why so many went all in on the singing. I have seen fan videos from Stockholm, they where also good but Gothenburg where better (might also be that I am biased AF...:)
Magnus Criwall You had the numbers advantage of a few thousand, my West coast friend. Quantity is a quality of its own. ;)
As a Pole: respect Sweeds !!
As a swede, huge respect to Poland
Huge respect back to you from Sweden 💖
as an italian: respect for everyone especially Sabaton!
As a Canadian with huge Irish heritage, I respect all of you vikings.
Lol
I have many polish friends here in Sweden, I have and always Will love your people
I’m a 27 year old Scottish woman who is sat in tears listening to this. I’d love to hear this specific version live one day.
4:40 I'm crying so much 🥲
It’s trippy when you realize that the English lyrics match the Swedish ones, even though they are different (like they take the same time to sing)
Except the translation sucks, but thats google for ya. After all its more or less the same meaning in the end.
I don't understand a single word but had 6:35min goosebumps! :)
felt like a couple of minutes tbh :D
I agree
Yeah, that part was the best
I did a presentation at my school for our history class last Friday, I spoke about the swedish great power era (I'm swedish) using the carolus rex album and went through each song on the album and explaining what they are about. I wanted to show the class one example song that they could listen to and I chose to show this video between 01:00 and 02:18 so thank you Sabaton!
The reason the Swedish empire was so successful is because, as mentioned in the lyrics of the song, the soldiers knew and fought for eachother. Not for the king, even though he was a formidable man. These were men from villages who fought among other men who probably went to the same church as they did every Sunday. Sweden only had 1 million inhabitants at this time.. the power of friendship. "Among kinsmen from my village i left for battle" this song is so damn powerful and historically accurate.
What a beautiful song Greetings from the USA

@@Sabaton One simple word that sums up this song. Respect.
Whenever this song is sung in Sweden is just breathtaking. Every one in the audince singing in reverence of their ancestors who fought and bled for their King, Country and Religion all those centuries ago.
When life is beating you down into the ground, find a song like this, raise up to, carry on, no matter what burdens are on your shoulder it may be:regret, sorrow, heartbreak, financial, or depression. Music can be the little thing you need to push through. For me this song is my goto song when life is giving me hell, and only path is forward and through it.
Emotional, inspiring, loving and in plain text, an awesome song. 💯
