    Bro I’m actually mad at u for not making this like 2 years ago lol I’m just joking but my coaches in 7th and 8th grade always said to wait till the volleyball was out of the setters hands and at it’s peak I wondered why my timing was so bad im going try this new stuff I learned for 9th grade tryouts that are in spring.     thanks so much! I had alot of trouble for the longest time with my timing as a middle as I had the vertical and I had the power so I was really confused as to why I was not hitting the ball, turns out I was running way to slow for a quick, this really helps with how I mentally approach the game thanks!

    You bring up an excellent method of practicing and understanding the timing of the approach with different sets, but in game the four step approach has a very simple flaw - it's slower; the extra step takes more time, which you might not have in game, especially if you're relatively inexperienced (like me) and don't always transition fast enough from the block or the receive. Also, every set is a bit different, so you do need to change speed and rhythm of your steps.
    That being said, i do think this is a brilliant video, and would definitely sub to the channel.

    Great video!! Is there a name for the way you attacked the ball at 7:28? It's brilliant the way you got the ball way behind, but twisting the arm from the back.

    Bro pls help my form is horrible i start good with 4 steps but in the end i jump only with my left foot and i loose a lot of jumping plus i feel like when im in air spiking that ball like with 30% of my power i cant add all my power in that spike

    This is the most helpful video Ive seen for spiking. My legs are still sore from jumping and I thought I couldn't train. I could practice the 4 step approach without even jumping, so I can train on rest days

    I don't think either approach is better than another. They both have their uses for specific scenarios. You have to determine what will be best for the play, the situation and the individual ability of the hitter.

      Good question. I know it's hard but try mash it all together.
      It might be helpful to try focus on the approach a bit more. But science tells us mashing it all helps over all the most. 🙏

    Great video, just started with volleyball and even though im a good jumper and trained a lot for my approach and armswing, i could never really connect due to my bad timing and now i have something to work with.
    I have one more question, how do i communicate with my setter on which tempo he plays? Because with your 4 step approach guide, i would need to know beforehand what tempo my setter is planing to do.

    Only thing about your middle hit tho is that you need to be up there before the ball is set if your hitting a one

    Coach Artie!!! Help me please. I am fairly new to the sport and have played basketball for the last 10 years. I am a high jumper but off 1 foot (my left). I am now struggling with jumping left right, or right left... Left right feels more comfortable but people tell me its the other way around for someone like me who is right handed. Any tips?

      Ive been in the exact same predicament. I've learnt how to read my setters movements really well. If they're off the net they set higher, if they're late they set faster.
      It was frustrating 🤣 but I learnt a valuable lesson. How to read and predict my setter

      Haha hey I use to close my eyes aswell. I don't really have a suggestion but practice hitting slower with your eyes open.

      You talk to him. If the pass is good he can go for a medium, if bad, he can go for a high. You have to judge then the quality of pass. Once you get to know what your setter can and cannot do, you know what to do everytime

    how do I know what kind of set am I gonna get in advance? If I assume a mid set and Im already on 2nd step and the setter give me high ball then Im cooked. And if I wait for a high set and I get a mid set instead Im cooked again cuz im late on approach

      Most of the time setter tells you what kind of set he gonna do. If not setters gonna set depending on your approach. Sorry not a goode

      Record you self like I did in this video. Slow it down and start writing down where or when your spike approach start to break down.

    So my biggest issue is that I end up with the ball almost behind me when I swing. Is that a timing issue?

      I think you might need to start further off the net or change the size of your steps. Get a recording of your spike and see what you can change
