The first area you were in was the old mountain park amusement area . Now owned by a local person and was used for outdoor concerts. The busted up buildings were the Ski area buildings and later the water park.. The wave pool was at the base of the main ski slope.
So where was the alpine slide location? They had that before the wave pool. I believe they stopped it because insurance coverage became astronomical. Too bad because it was a lot of fun!
It came down to the north side of the wave pool . The water slide replaced where the alpine slide ended. that way yhe sleds could be loaded onto the chair lift to bring them back to the top of the alpine slide. Your correct, insurance was what closed the slide. There are still some sections halfway up the mountain where there was a compressor station for the snow guns.
There was never any camping at Mt. Tom. The cabin foundations are changing rooms, bathrooms exit pools and pump houses for the waterslides. The large foundation was the lodge, the red tile was the food prep area for the kitchen. The low section at the north end was a bar in the basement and a restaurant on the top. The basement in the Main lodge was administration, and lockers. The place you entered through was not a part of the ski area. It was the old Mt. Park, an amusement park that operates for many years and closed around 1985. The new owners wanted to have the casino built there, but the site was not chosen. Outdoor concerts didn't prove profitable either. The one room basement was the ski school and the locker room for the instructors below. The big foundation down the hill was the store and more administrative offices. The elevated part had a garage with a snow cat. The last building with the red door was the maintenance garage.
WOW , I just found out about Mt Tom and I'm shocked!!! Back in the late 80's me and the boys would snowboard there. We live in Springfield and it was ruff even back then. Shame ,but it's like every thing else going to hell these days. Thanks for the video. Sad as it is...
It is a sad sight to see that this place has suffered from so much neglect and decay, but I’m glad the history is preserved enough where you can see the remnants of it today!
Mountain park amusement park I think closed in the late 80’s. I went as a kid. I was at the water park last in 92. I think that shuttered a few yrs later
If my memory serves. Those wooden stairs led up to the top of the water slides? Idk it was forever ago. I was actually up there today and can’t believe how different it looks
Most of the info you gave in this video is incorrect. There has NEVER been Cabins at Mt Tom ski area. In winter months they had skiing, in summer months they had water slides and a wave pool by the road coming into the ski area .. most of area burned down because of Urban Explorers. A few years after the ski area closed a mining company bought the property to mine and last I heard the YMCA of Holyoke has the property for a summer camp area , but I believe that mite have fallen through. Please for the the sake of your viewers please check your information.. I used to ski at Mt Tom and remember the layout very well.
Thank you for the clarification on this. I remember before I visited, I found a map and some information online describing some of the smaller buildings as “cabins”, but that may have been fabricated. Thank you for the details!
Can you do a video where you explore an abandoned place at night alone or just in the woods? At night alone, or can you revisit an abandoned place at night alone
Massachusetts isn't getting better its getting worse. I remember going to the alpine slide and waterside up here. Anywhere you go in Central and western ma. area its getting really run down and dumpy.
No the quarry was operating while the resort was open. We could see it from the chair lifts. The quarry owner bought the entire mountain to expand the quarry shutting down the park and led to a lot of local backlash. You would see bumper stickers on all the cars that said “mount Tom I don’t dig it”
14:42 ok I don’t know if you noticed but on that time mark there’s a phone number and I called it and someone actually answered apparently they spray painted it there 10 years ago so I told them about this video and they said I was the first person who actually said something about it
@J-MASS you ever go to Scott’s tower in Holyoke or explore the other side of MT TOM some trails and some more ruins on the easthampton side of the mountain
You wouldn't advertise this tunnle if it was really suspicious of drugs. They would hide in that tunnel waiting for the next people to come through.. The fact they didnt makes this looked staged!
Girl, have you visited since the 80s? It’s so gentrified now. I’m a tiny girl and I can walk alone around downtown at 10/11 at night no problem. I can’t afford the rent anymore though! 😂

The alpine slide was where the cement columns were.
The cement columns are where the water slide (tube) was the alpine sat on the ground.@@jayfordb6537
USE TO GO THEIR A LOT WHEN I WAS A KID

Good job showing the public what is around the corner. Just wish more people cared not to let it happen. Keep it up. someone has to tell it 👍👍
I can still feel the burns from the Alpine slide after many wipeouts! lol Great Times!
Oh yea. Many slide rashes. Lol

I love your videos, some places I've been to, others I've never heard of it. I plan on going to a few of these myself.
Thanks man! It’s always fun showing off these places to other people, I’m glad I could give you some ideas for travel!
If my memory serves. Those wooden stairs led up to the top of the water slides? Idk it was forever ago. I was actually up there today and can’t believe how different it looks
That's correct.
This brought back memories, thanks ☺️
"Absolutely destroyed." Perfect match for the downtown.
They had an Alpine slide in the Summer, which was fun.
Someone that didn't grow up around here and he noticed that " Julioke is not really the nicest city in Assachusetts."

Only skied there once. Nice place.
Interesting location, nice find.
Shame to see it like this. I used to go a lot in the winter skiing and a few time in the summer for the water park. 1976 - 1982
This video is a perfect example of the recent decline of Holyoke.
It’s been closed since 98 sadly. I’d love to have a ski area here in the pioneer valley
Recent? Holyoke’s been in decline for decades, ever since manufacturing, especially paper, moved overseas
The stairs were an alternnate route to the top, if you didn't take the chair lift.
Massachusetts isn't getting better its getting worse. I remember going to the alpine slide and waterside up here. Anywhere you go in Central and western ma. area its getting really run down and dumpy.
Ski rentals are at the base. You rent the skis before you go up.
I remember skiing there and bringing my dog, he'd run up under the lift and wait for me at the top.
Yes they were pissed at me.
The quarry operation might have been after the resort closed.

You could not sleep up there it was a ski area and water park in the summer and that is the wave pool you are standing in.

Heyyyyyyy you're fine up there my guy it's downtown you have to worry about 🤣
Why does he have to worry about downtown
You wouldn't advertise this tunnle if it was really suspicious of drugs.
They would hide in that tunnel waiting for the next people to come through..
The fact they didnt makes this looked staged!
The ruins are the alpine slide
I think someone can come here for free and ski
Holyoke is the worse city in Massachusetts, #1 in crime. This place looks nice but please be careful of you visit this place.

Springfield is #1 in crime but that’s just splitting hairs.
