@@silverdemon1530 he is the epitome of free will bearer. He will do what he wants to do to save what he likes the most. I m not saying he is a hero, but he is hero of his story.
Stop using the term protagonist and antagonist wrong Antagonist doesn't mean villain It means "the person opposing the main character" If the protagonist is morally evil and the antagonist is morally good that doesn't switch their roles (a big example is death not with kira the "evil" protagonist and L the "good" antagonist or code geass with Lelouch and suzaku) So unless eren starts opposing and sabotaging himself and do things that contradict his past actions (which will happen sooner than later) he is not the antagonist (he may become a villain but he is still the protagonist)
personally I think when Eren said he was "disgusted" at what his dad did, I think Eren meant he was digusted that his Dad almost didn't go through and hesitated from taking the founding titan.
Basically every time Grisha "sees" Zeke or Eren, he's seeing them because of Eren's memories of that exact moment. Whenever he sees Zeke, Eren is always looking at him from behind Grisha.
Exactly, in fact eren wasn't talking directly to his father in the chapel but was sending the message through the memory of him talking to grisha while he was in the memory.
That really is just an interesting paradox. He's seeing current Eren's memories the moment he is actually living out the memory. Do you think Grisha's point of view would be in third person at that moment then, seeing himself and Zeke from Eren's eyes? That fucks with my brain on so many levels and it surely had to fuck with his as well
The fact that the very first episode of Attack on Titan is titled "To you, in 2000 years" and next week's episode is titled "From You, 2000 years ago" is some insane foreshadowing.
Hiroshi Tsuchida, Grisha's va, delivered an outstanding performance in this episode. He was able to effectively portray Grisha's anguish, desperation, and despair. It felt so real. This is without a doubt one of his best performances.
Holy shit, I just realized, the reason why Eren laughed/got angry when he asked Connie if Sasha's had any last words, was because he'd probably already seen the future and her death was his confirmation that everything else he saw was going to happen!
i got spoilt about that after seeing the episode, one of my friends told me that eren has seen the future, Isayma is literally writing whatever eren tells him to
This is honestly reaching. Season 3 Eren only got memories that Season 4 sent Grisha. Future Eren had no reason to show Grisha or Past Eren Sasha's death. Season 3 Eren already knows what was going to happen next, he doesn't need confirmation via Sasha's death
@@quasquaswex4430 I didn't fully understand what you wrote but personally I think the scene of him chuckling was too random to not have any significance. Up until that point Eren had only confirmed his memories from past users were real (like finding the shore/wall that eldians were kicked off of, through grisha's memories at end of season 3) but no hard evidence on being able to change the future or not. I suspect Eren was shown scenes from what would happen in Marley and sasha's death was one of them, judging from him being expressionless when Connie first told him Sasha had died. Why else would he ask for her last words if he was already confident that he knew what they were? And why did he suddenly go psycho when he heard "meat"? I think he came to some kind of realization.
@@quasquaswex4430 That's not exactl right, when Eren kisses Historias hand, he saw his whole future and past at the same time. Hence why it is called the coordinate, because all paths (from every Eldian) combine at this exact point. At the moment he touched Historia, he became his own slave to his own destiny/timeline.
@@joestarxshinigami4235 Yo I saw this shit in the manga and saw it referenced in an earlier chapter 5 years prior, I fuckin died to the author's foreshadow power.
For ANYONE confused: Think of Eren as a camera for Grisha, so when Eren is staring at Grisha. Grisha can only see someone looking at him in future memories. That is also why he is able to see Zeke: Because Eren was kind enough to stand far back so both Zeke and Grisha were in his sight :)
And the worst thing is he took his own freedom away. Because it is the successor who decides to send his memories back in time, and not the other way around. If he had not desired it, Eren could have not retrieved those memories of his adult self (through Grisha) when he kissed the Queen during the ceremony.
In a sense doesn’t that make him extremely free? Cause its just everything he wants he’s only being controlled by himself and controlling like every other attack titan before him everything is going to happen so it doesn’t matter what he does it was going to happen anyways and it will lead up to whatever moment he is in all he did was let himself see it before then And there is no “he shouldn’t have shown himself the future” like it’s just going to happen he inevitably shows himself the future there’s no other route to take Usually in shows ab time and stuff once the past happenes you can’t change it and in Aot I’m guessing they’ve added that rule to the future as well the future is the same even thought it ‘hasn’t happened yet’ it can’t be changed either. The ultimate freedom he longs for is like a joke he’s trapped freedom shouldn’t have limits that you can reach but it seems like he’s so close to being free that he’s actually just trapped no one else is as free as eren you could argue he’s trapped by time but all the choices he makes are his own he wanted to make them even after seeing what he does it doesn’t change the outcome because it’s what he wanted even if he starts regretting it when the moment comes he’ll do it cause thats the future all his regrets will still lead up to that moment
The thing is that people don’t seem to remember that in S3 E22, Eren kissed Historia’s hand, and from that point forward he knew the future, and how everything was going to play out. In other words… the game was rigged from the beginning
No it wasnt rigged, thats not how time works. The future already happened. future, past and present events happened already. Since we live in the present were just waiting to see the future come and turn into the past. Eren future self had already made whtever choice he did. And present eren saw that. So at the end of the day eren is the start of it all.
I love how MAPPA animated Eren's anger added with the sound of rumbling when Frieda proposed that only Eldians would have to die. Eren cannot accept this.
No spoilers The Attack Titan future thing goes like this: - In these episode Grisha was seeing Eren’s POV, that’s why the only times he “sees” Zeke was when Eren was behind both of em. - When Eren talked to Grisha, he saw himself from Eren’s eyes and heard him. Same thing when Grisha was saying to little Eren bout the basement - When Eren kissed historia’s hand he saw what Grisha saw, that this future Eren showed to him, that’s why they had the same expression. - This episode implies that Future Eren pretty much set everything up lol (obviously just with the hosts of the attack titan) (Could be wrong tho, but this is the best I can do) This episode was heat, man
Eren was kind of broken even before his mom got eaten. Think back when he saved Mikasa. Killing those dudes made sense, but stabbing them over and over again was crazy. Plus he didn't flinch at all doing it.
@Zyrex Its not about those criminals. Its about a kid (Eren) not only murder people like he was killing animal, he even justify him murdering them with no remorse. That is not a healthy mind for a kid to have. Every normal person in AOT astonished with this, as evidence during military court trial in S1. That is why I was surprised with people cheering a kid to kill other people.
I love how much Lupa is trying to understand/empathize with Eren and the mental anguish he was going through after seeing the memories from kissing Historia’s hand. Eren’s demeanor change didn’t come out of nowhere. He seen some shit. Literally.
Dawg....I've always wondered why Eren's demeanor changed so damn drastically from the end of S3 to S4. Aside from the mental impact of the tragic losses of his comrades and humanity in general I've always felt that it had to have been something deeper.....to think that I finally got my answer today.....I don't even know what to think right now.
12:37 I actually really love Sheera's analysis here but I think I'd make a slight change to it for my interpretation. I think rather than the Attack Titan being doomed to rebel against Fate, it's actually just a slave to fate and the future in the same way the Founding Titan is a slave to the 145 king's will and the past. Eren Kruger does what he does because he sees memories of Armin and Mikasa, Grisha does what he does because he sees the memories that Eren shows him and pushes him to murder Frieda, and Eren does what he does because he sees himself in the future manipulating Grisha. All the attack titan users simply carry out the actions because they see what they think is an inevitable future. I think this best vocalized several times by Eren saying something along the lines of "I always keep moving forward, until all my enemies are destroy." And I think that's the real reason why the Founding Titan and the Attack Titan are always on opposites sides of a conflict: the Founding Titan is a slave to the past while the Attack Titan is a slave to the future
at the end of the day, nobody was ever free. neither the attack titan nor the founding was ever free. their history was that ancient spine worm's plaything and play everyone for its own sandbox world/history.
That's why Eren is a paradox. He is constantly about freedom and enacting his free will, but every single action in his life was dictated by the future version of himself. So he had no free will
When Sasha died and eren asked what her last words were he started laughing manically because he realized nothing that he did could change the memories of the future he saw

Interesting fact: the scene at 6:25 is 1:1 with Episode 1 save for a few shots since the animation team had access to WIT's previous materials like backgrounds. They redrew the character designs to fit the current art style, but their movement is almost perfectly the same.
Eren was watching Kruger and Grisha speak in the past while Grisha was sending a memory to Kruger of his last moments before injecting Eren while being haunted and confused by the memories Eren was sending to Grisha.
Grisha wasn’t actually looking at them, he was basically looking at nothing during that time, he just saw himself through Erens memories and can see from his POV. For Example, when Eren convinced Grisha to kill the Royal Family, Eren wasn’t actually there when it happened, Grisha saw from Erens POV of Eren convincing him to do it. And when Grisha hugged Zeke, he didn’t actually hug him, he just hugged the Air. He just saw Zeke from Erens POV since he was standing behind them. So Grisha was seeing himself from a 3rd person view because he was seeing from Erens POV
Grisha did see some old bearded man (zeke) for a split second in his office in his own perspective. Even if it was from Eren’s Pov the brain actually does most of the seeing 90% of what you see is just good illusions if what you see for real is left untampered with by the brain everything would already be upside down and severely messed up. The parasite titan path or whatever could translate Eren pov even more for the body to see in first pov and even feel a tuch from a hug. The parasite already has proven it can by connecting the titan shifter body to their titan senses very well.

For Clarification: When Eren kissed Historia's hand he saw the entirety of Grisha's interaction with the Reiss family. This includes seeing his future self from Grisha's perspective. Future Eren also gave Grisha memories of his own future. So Eren also saw his own future, from Grisha's memories, the rumbling. Him seeing the future is what set him on the path of starting the rumbling. Also Eren's reasoning for why he's doing what he's doing has already been answered in this episode. As he said, "he's always been himself since he was born". Unlike Zeke, Eren is meant to reflect being inherently a certain way, and not molded by his environment. As you guys noticed, that's why Eren was different after the kiss with Historia. I'm trying to keep it vague, cuz I don't want to spoil anything.
That's incorrect partly, Eren didn't see himself from Grisha's memories because Grisha wasn't seeing Eren. Eren saw the church scene play out without him or Zeke through Grisha AND saw it play out through his perspective (with him manipulating Grisha). Grisha didn't see Eren, he heard Eren through the memory of Eren visiting his memories, through Eren's pov
@@joaoassumpcao3347 No, Eren saw Grisha’s pov when he kissed historia’s hand. It’s not possible to see your own future memories with the attack Titan, only the memories of future shifters. When Eren sees the future it is because he is seeing Grisha’s past memories of future Eren. It’s confusing I know.
@@joaoassumpcao3347 Grisha doesn’t see Eren directly, but he does see Eren’s future memories with the attack titans power, which is how Eren is able to communicate with him.
So the interesting thing is that Grisha HATES Marley. He hates Marley with every fiber of his being. So imagine the horror of what Grisha saw when even he turns to Zeke and says Marley doesn't deserve what Eren is going to do to them
As an English/Literature major, this anime has the best storyline of perspective if you understand what's going on. Everyone is a hero in their own story.
I think the part where Eren said he lost all hope in his dad was true, he was truly disappointed in his Dad when he didn't kill the royal family on his own
Lots to unpack here. 1. All these memories flooded Eren's mind when he first touched Historia's hand 2. The Attack Titan can see and also plant memories of its other holders. (Eren could see Kruger in the past, plants the memory of Mikasa and Armin for example) 3. Everything. Literally everything has been a 'separate timeline' since the moment the 9 Titans were formed. Since the 1st Attack Titan time has been a flat construct. 4. Zeke isn't 'there' when Grisha hugs him, but Eren plants the memory that Zeke is there. Zeke never experience this and it never happened but the memory is still just as real to Grisha. It took me a while to piece it together properly. Go rewatch when Eren kisses Historia's hand. Now watch the dominos fall.
Fun fact: One of the animation directors for this episode (Masaru Kitao) used work on Death Note. It’s most evident in the exaggerated facial expressions as well as Grisha’s character movements during his breakdown
You guys are one of the few UA-camrs who caught the fact that Eren in season 3 saw the future him and Grisha situation and that’s why he was different in the end of Season 3. Absolutely Amazing 🤩
This is a series that is gonna mess some people up on a rewatch. Cause they're gonna see that scene of Eren kissing Historia's hand and thats gonna be the moment they're like IT ALL HAPPENED HERE?
I got shivers up my spine when the moment came where Eren kept getting angrier and angrier, you could hear a 'Rumbling' in the background. Also, as a non-manga reader, Grisha saying 'Please, stop Eren', everyone I've watched react to this thinks its him speaking to Zeke, making a request of his eldest son to stop the younger, but I think the opposite, I think Grisha is begging Eren to stop now and not do whatever he's about to do, that Grisha has already seen and knows is 100% going to happen. But before that, the fact Zeke brought up Eren saying he was disgusted with their father in that moment of killing the Reiss family, but I haven't seen anyone I've reacted to realize, Eren didn't lie, he was disgusted by Grisha in that moment... not because he killed the children, but instead because he faltered and hesitated to kill them.
and the fact that if Zeke didn't want to "fix" his brother and just started his plan, all that would not happen. like Zeke who sent Eren to Grisha's memories to manipulate him to kill the family.
My reasoning for Grisha telling zeke to stop eren is because Grisha didnt know carla got eaten during the breach of the walls because eren didnt show Grisha all the memories of what happened during that time Grisha doesnt find out till later what happened to her and then proceeds to give past eren the founder and attack titan and saying avenge your mother because at this point he doesnt care anymore
Nah he's talking to Zeke. Just based on grammar, if he was talking to Eren he would say Eren, please stop, or Please stop, Eren. But he said Please, Stop Eren.
Spoiler alert for those who comment. Bruh, I still can’t believe that this scene here was only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to him being behind everything.
@@fayc_fayc2115 unfortunately the ending just didn’t do justice for me. And I think that part of it is due to the fact that chapter 138 was peak AoT. Like, 138 was perfect, and I feel like 139 didn’t capitalize on the emotion 138 brought in any way. That’s just one reason, but I think it plays a big part in why people feel the way they do.
In episode 1, at the house scene where Grisha showed Eren the key to the basement; his face wasn't shown in that frame. But here, his face is shown to be staring directly at Eren in terror. Coincidence, I think not.
When Zeke says he’ll “fix” Eren he just saying in general no deep meaning behind it because Zeke believes Eren is brainwashed by there father . So “fixing” him is curing him from that . Hence showing him all the memories
The real twist is everyone and everything in the series is playing a game of chess and taking turns controlling the board and meanwhile Eren is just watching a recording of the game and is fast forwarding and reversing the footage to points that work for him and his agenda
I've watched literally thousands of movies, hundreds of other series and anime, and I can say with certainty, the AOT plots are among the best plots in the history of entertainment.
Another thing that people miss is that All Attack titan users can't see the future- they can only see the memories that are shared with them. That is how eren is able to manipulate even Kruger by letting him know about Armin and Mikasa and his dad into doing those things. Eren only shares enough memory of certain things to influence them to do what eren wants. And what he wants is his and his peoples freedom. He's only considered a "vilian" because people don't grasp that he's willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish that.
The girl sitting to the left actually predicted this in the episode where Eren Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin. She said it for a second and quickly forgot about it. As a manga reader watching the reaction I was like “Wow, that’s a good prediction”
@@Buckheimer 90% are wrong? Then you haven't watched the channel, she's got very accurate predictions, even Rishi and lupa are mostly wrong when she's right
Love that Lupa pointed out if young Eren is to blame for any of this. Because ever since they let this whole time loop thing happening, the entire existence of "free will" is being brought to a question.
Is it a time loop? I understood it as the attack titans power makes the future directly affects the padt and the past directly affect the future. But its not like anything is looping. There is 1 timeline. And that 1 timeline was always going to happen this way.
@@mattimeikalainen6963 it's a loop, just a fixed one. Young eren was born to be angry af, and he was meant to be attack titan, who is forced to come here at this point with zeke and then iteratively lock himself into this cycle, after what he did with Grisha at this scene, that just never had any other outcome in the first place.
@@mattimeikalainen6963 people mix up what a time loop and a causal loop are; in the case of a single timeline, this is a causal loop. The effects of certain events happen before their causes, which fixes them permanently into possibility. E.g. To people wondering how Eren made contact with Grisha: - Grisha basically saw FUTURE Eren's memories (which is the Eren we will see later on in the series) through CURRENT Eren's eyes (which is the Eren in this episode watching Grisha's memories) - Basically Grisha saw himself through CURRENT Eren's POV/Eyes that's why he could tell Zeke was there because Eren could see Zeke. And that's why he knows Eren is there because he is watching himself through Eren's eyes. - To make it simpler: Grisha - Future Eren's Memories (through Current Eren's eyes) - and then back to Grisha Eren kissing historia's hand: - Eren basically saw FUTURE Eren's plan through Grisha's Memories. Basically Grisha saw FUTURE Eren's plan and since CURRENT Eren can access Grisha's memories of seeing the FUTURE Eren's plan, then he could basically see the future. - To make it simpler: Grisha saw FUTURE Eren's Memories - CURRENT/PAST (When he kissed Historia) saw Grisha seeing FUTURE Eren's Memories.

I always thought that Eren, [manga spoilers], after getting full access to the founding titan’s abilities, was able to see/go through all the paths (past, present, and future), and laid the seeds for how the future he wanted (that could save as many of his friends) to play out?🤔 He told Mikasa out of every future that could’ve been, only the current one (the manga’s ending) was the best one for everyone (it seemed f*d up now, but it would probably benefit in the long run). Like the scene from Infinity War, where Dr. Strange used the time stone to see every possible outcome of facing Thanos, and only one☝️ was successful in defeating him (and saving the universe), but there had to be sacrifices.
Grisha’s VA came back for one episode and stole the whole show. Especially at the end when he was apologizing to Zeke for being a horrible a father, I really felt that.

6:57 This shot of Grisha looking at adult Eren is amazing. I went back to see episode 1 to see where Grisha was looking when he talked to kid Eren about the key during this exact time. It didn't show his eyes in episode 1 (only the key in his hands) but the direction Grisha was looking in that episode while telling kid Eren about the key, it was a 100% clear what he was really looking at. This is some INSANE story writing right here and to think Eren was the one who was responsible for causing the start of this whole story from the very begining of episode 1 makes my my mind completely blown. Also give Grisha's VA (Hiroshi Tsuchida) some kind of an award because MAN he really sold me the emotions behind the character of Grisha. The VA clearly put immense passion and dedication voice acting Grisha and it really shows in this episode!
@@expecttheone6825 Yeah the anime shows Grisha looking at kid Eren when he was showing the key. It's only for a second but guess Wit Studio made a mistake here. But yeah in the manga, Grisha was certainly looking somewhere else, not at kid Eren. And YES I know Grisha wasn't seeing adult Eren directly bit instead swing things from Eren's POV.
When parents say "You can be whatever you want when you grow up"... I guess Eren took that literally. He's the protagonist, he's the antagonist, he's the writer, he's everything lmao
By "fixing him" Zeke meant that he would free Eren of his father's brainwashing And in this episode Grisha isn't actually seeing Eren, he's seeing himself through Eren's eyes because he's seeing Eren's memories of the future. And also Eren can't see all of the future, he can only see what he showed his father to manipulate him.
@@liamjm9278 you notice how anytime Grisha could see Zeke in the episode, Eren happened to be standing behind both of them, at the table where Grisha apologizes and after he leaves his titan? It's not a coincidence, he couldn't directly see Zeke with his own eyes, but if Eren had Zeke in view, then he could know where Zeke was through Eren's eyes, basically how you would interact with someone in a 3rd person game. I'm not sure, but I think him being able to 'touch' Zeke was an artistic choice, rather than what physically happened, maybe someone can correct me.
The voice acting is has been crazy good so far, and todays episode just further proves that. It completely elevates the manga to another level with how much effort the VAs put into their work here. They really embody their characters, big props to them so far.
Explanation: Eren is able to see both the future and the past. He sends memories from the future to Kruger telling him to tell Grisha to protect armin and mikasa. And he sends his memories back to his dad forcing him to kill the family. He only sends the memories at a steady pace though, he makes it seem like if he kills the Reiss family it will protect Eldia.
Eren whispered in Isayama's ear and told him to write this story On a serious note, it's really scary how Grisha, someone who was so anti-Marley and pro-Eldia, saw one glimpse of Eren's plan and was like, "Zeke. You have to stop him." Despite Grisha's hate for Marley and how far he was willing to go, even HE thought his plan was too far. He was genuinely horrified. Whatever Eren's plan is, Grisha does not want it to happen. Speaking of, Zeke and Grisha finally getting to work out their issues and hug each other in a moment of pure love is really heartwarming. Grisha understood his mistakes when raising Zeke before. Instead of only treating him as a tool, he treats him as his son. Zeke is finally able to take his first step towards closure after years of trauma. Even if they had their differences, Grisha and Zeke can at least agree with one thing: Stopping Eren..
Grishas changes his mind again tho. Something happens the night Eren eats grisha but we never find out and I think from there thats when Eren shows Grisha about Carla, probably grisha has another change of heart then gives Eren the attack titan
I mean we have been drip fed this outcome all through the show little hints here and there that all add up once you get to this point. To be fair the whole Owl scene really told you the gist

I knew this episode will break the internet cause it's so fking good, Isayama is an absolute genius, and mappa's adaptation was on point. Really happy to see everyone's reaction and Anime only's perspective.
It's important to note that Grisha never saw Eren in the memories. He saw Eren's memories, meaning its in Eren's perspective. So Grisha basically see himself in third person pov. That is why Eren is positioned behind Grisha so he can see Zeke which is in front of them.
this episode was really good, to all of the people that arent manga readers the scene where eren kisses historia's hand was what changed everything & thats why at the last scene we get to see eren in the past with a really mad look on his face representing that since that moment he's been able to pull the strings behind the scene. Anyways they did a really great job this episode!!
So in order to avoid any confusion regarding the time travel mechanics, I will break down what type of Time travel we're dealing with here. AOT operates by a particular type of time travel where it's almost impossible to change the past even if you somehow go back in time. And any change that you tried to cause was always meant to happen in the overall timeline. Here time is a fixed circle, not a stream. We may see Eren meddle in the past but that was always meant to happen. The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future inheritors. This was hinted when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. Keep in mind, they can only view these memories but can't interact with them. So how was Eren able to meddle in the past? Well, he had 3 perfect conditions: 1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan 2. The ability of the Founding Titan 3. He was also in contact with someone with royal blood AKA Zeke. After Zeke tapped Eren's head, they were able to view Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of the coordinate. They were freely able to view the past as if it were through a one way mirror. Now if Eren had any other Titan other than the Attack Titan, he would only be able to look. But since Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's recollection of the same event that he's currently experiencing in real time. So this mean that whenever Grisha can see or hear Eren, he's actually recieving a brief future memory from Eren's POV where he can see out of his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a 3rd perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are viewing, allowing for a two way communication through time. Also Note that everytime, Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always standing behind his dad. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, it is from actually due to the memories from Eren's POV
I like how Sheera pointed out the parallels yet also the similarity between the founding and attack titan with them both being locked on a path but since Eren has both he has the power to change everything and even more so because he was thrown into it all like Lupa was mentioning
What's also really cool is, in the manga this whole dialogue/backflash ends with Eren kissing historias hand, so the moment he first touched Royalty, he got all of this information which is why he froze and looked so incredibly shocked after kissing Historias hand. They show a glimpse of that moment in this episode too but it's very hard to see.
This is why I am getting to love the intro more and more. I am not a heavy metal guy, but it fits. The rage, the lyrics. Eren is becoming a villain but he is not a villain, he is not evil. The lyrics " All I have ever wanted was do good things, I never wanted to be the king, I swear. / All I ever wanted is save your life, I never wanted to grab the knife, I swear!!! "
I never read the manga but personally, I feel like everything derailed and Eren finally settled on his path in that very moment he kissed Historia's hand and his contact with the royal blood prolly flooded his memories. And from there and to the point of the final season, there was a lot of time for him to figure everything out for himself. The image of his kiss on Historia's hand even flashed somewhere in this episode.

Stop using the term protagonist and antagonist wrong
Antagonist doesn't mean villain
It means "the person opposing the main character"
If the protagonist is morally evil and the antagonist is morally good that doesn't switch their roles (a big example is death not with kira the "evil" protagonist and L the "good" antagonist or code geass with Lelouch and suzaku)
So unless eren starts opposing and sabotaging himself and do things that contradict his past actions (which will happen sooner than later) he is not the antagonist (he may become a villain but he is still the protagonist)

Grisha never sees future Eren. Only future Zeke.
Exactly, in fact eren wasn't talking directly to his father in the chapel but was sending the message through the memory of him talking to grisha while he was in the memory.
That really is just an interesting paradox. He's seeing current Eren's memories the moment he is actually living out the memory. i got spoilt about that after seeing the episode, one of my friends told me that eren has seen the future, Isayma is literally writing whatever eren tells him to
That's absolutly right
This is honestly reaching.

I like how Lupa gets the reality that Eren's memory loop makes him INCREDIBLY UNFREE
And the worst thing is he took his own freedom away. Because it is the successor who decides to send his memories back in time, and not the other way around. If he had not desired it, Eren could have not retrieved those memories of his adult self (through Grisha) when he kissed the Queen during the ceremony.
That also makes Eren's speech to Mikasa and Armin at the table fairly interesting, you think?
eren is free in reality than other people but not free from fate and higher power than him
In a sense doesn’t that make him extremely free? Cause its just everything he wants he’s only being controlled by himself and controlling like every other attack titan before him everything is going to happen so it doesn’t matter what he does it was going to happen anyways and it will lead up to whatever moment he is in all he did was let himself see it before then
And there is no “he shouldn’t have shown himself the future” like it’s just going to happen he inevitably shows himself the future there’s no other route to take
Usually in shows ab time and stuff once the past happenes you can’t change it and in Aot I’m guessing they’ve added that rule to the future as well the future is the same even thought it ‘hasn’t happened yet’ it can’t be changed either.

- When Eren talked to Grisha, he saw himself from Eren’s eyes and heard him. Same thing when Grisha was saying to little Eren bout the basement

Kruger saying "Who's memories are those?" blows my mind even more now
Eren was watching Kruger and Grisha speak in the past while Grisha was sending a memory to Kruger of his last moments before injecting Eren while being haunted and confused by the memories Eren was sending to Grisha.
So Grisha was seeing himself from a 3rd person view because he was seeing from Erens POV
no shit?
Grisha did see some old bearded man (zeke) for a split second in his office in his own perspective. Even if it was from Eren’s Pov the brain actually does most of the seeing 90% of what you see is just good illusions if what you see for real is left untampered with by the brain everything would already be upside down and severely messed up. The parasite titan path or whatever could translate Eren pov even more for the body to see in first pov and even feel a tuch from a hug. For Clarification:
When Eren kissed Historia's hand he saw the entirety of Grisha's interaction with the Reiss family.

1. All these memories flooded Eren's mind when he first touched Historia's hand
2. The Attack Titan can see and also plant memories of its other holders. (Eren could see Kruger in the past, plants the memory of Mikasa and Armin for example)

In Japanese, Grisha says "Eren wo tomete kure" which means he is requesting for Zeke to stop Eren. This isn't a case of a misplaced comma.
that what I got from it. he was telling Eren to stop.
As a manga reader i was smiling while i watched this episode. The plot twist that eren was behind it the whole time was something no one expected
Spoiler alert for those who comment.

But here, his face is shown to be staring directly at Eren in terror.

Same in the manga. Mind blowing that Isayama planned all this from the start
@@keshamarie6148 it happened in chapter 1 of the manga as well. isayama was ahead of everyone with this.

E.g. Rod Reiss survived the royal family massacre, interacted with Eren, and now years later, Eren makes sure that his father in the past leaves Rod alive.

To people wondering how Eren made contact with Grisha:
- Grisha basically saw FUTURE Eren's memories (which is the Eren we will see later on in the series) through CURRENT Eren's eyes (which is the Eren in this episode watching Grisha's memories)
- Basically Grisha saw himself through CURRENT Eren's POV/Eyes that's why he could tell Zeke was there because Eren could see Zeke. And that's why he knows Eren is there because he is watching himself through Eren's eyes.
- To make it simpler: Grisha - Future Eren's Memories (through Current Eren's eyes) - and then back to Grisha
Eren kissing historia's hand:
- Eren basically saw FUTURE Eren's plan through Grisha's Memories. Basically Grisha saw FUTURE Eren's plan and since CURRENT Eren can access Grisha's memories of seeing the FUTURE Eren's plan, then he could basically see the future.
- To make it simpler: Grisha saw FUTURE Eren's Memories - CURRENT/PAST (When he kissed Historia) saw Grisha seeing FUTURE Eren's Memories.
got it that last part answered my question. im a manga reader but i was confused on how eren could see the future if you can only see the successors memories and since (MANGA SPOILERS FOR ANYONE READING) eren is the last attack titan, i was kinda lost on how he could see the future. but you cleared that up for me so thank you. basically grisha saw future erens memories and then eren saw grishas memories and by extension, saw his own memories of the future. thank you for that i couldnt find anyone who could explain that to me
Ye..Yeah i totally understand 😅

If you go back to chapter 1 it showes that not the anime but the manga

@@expecttheone6825 Yeah the anime shows Grisha looking at kid Eren when he was showing the key. It's only for a second but guess Wit Studio made a mistake here. But yeah in the manga, Grisha was certainly looking somewhere else, not at kid Eren.

By "fixing him" Zeke meant that he would free Eren of his father's brainwashing
And in this episode Grisha isn't actually seeing Eren, he's seeing himself through Eren's eyes because he's seeing Eren's memories of the future.
And also Eren can't see all of the future, he can only see what he showed his father to manipulate him.
that right, because Eren is the last Attack Titan.
Then why can he see and touch Zeke?
@@liamjm9278 you notice how anytime Grisha could see Zeke in the episode, Eren happened to be standing behind both of them, at the table where Grisha apologizes and after he leaves his titan? It's not a coincidence, he couldn't directly see Zeke with his own eyes, but if Eren had Zeke in view, then he could know where Zeke was through Eren's eyes, basically how you would interact with someone in a 3rd person game. The voice acting is has been crazy good so far, and todays episode just further proves that. It completely elevates the manga to another level with how much effort the VAs put into their work here. They really embody their characters, big props to them so far.
Eren was the child grisha wanted in Marley while zeke was the child he wanted in paradis.
Storyline is absolutely AMAZING
9:53 I was still shocked by this episode, then this scene came I couldn't hold back my laughter
XD
Eren really pulled the "You outsmart me, but I outsmarted your outsmarting" 🤣🤣
Explanation: Eren is able to see both the future and the past. He sends memories from the future to Kruger telling him to tell Grisha to protect armin and mikasa. And he sends his memories back to his dad forcing him to kill the family. He only sends the memories at a steady pace though, he makes it seem like if he kills the Reiss family it will protect Eldia.
Eren whispered in Isayama's ear and told him to write this story
On a serious note, it's really scary how Grisha, someone who was so anti-Marley and pro-Eldia, saw one glimpse of Eren's plan and was like, "Zeke.
Great comment!
Grishas changes his mind again tho. Something happens the night Eren eats grisha but we never find out and I think from there thats when Eren shows Grisha about Carla, probably grisha has another change of heart then gives Eren the attack titan

@@uchiwamadara4614 nah fighting for your people doesn’t justify genocide. Eren’s notices are understandable and he’s the protagonist, but he’s very much a villain

Really happy to see everyone's reaction and Anime only's perspective.
Man, that was a good plot twist and Grishas Voice Actor was great this episode.
It's important to note that Grisha never saw Eren in the memories. He saw Eren's memories, meaning its in Eren's perspective. So Grisha basically see himself in third person pov. That is why Eren is positioned behind Grisha so he can see Zeke which is in front of them.
This is the only react channel where I'll watch the commentary part like their analysis' are so good
this episode was really good, to all of the people that arent manga readers the scene where eren kisses historia's hand was what changed everything & thats why at the last scene we get to see eren in the past with a really mad look on his face representing that since that moment he's been able to pull the strings behind the scene. Anyways they did a really great job this episode!!
Seeing the manga brought to life actually gave chills! Grisha's VA did such a wonderful job!!!!!!
9:52 that Eren's smile was unexpected 😂
Well, he had 3 perfect conditions:
1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan
2. The ability of the Founding Titan
This series never ceases to exceed my expectations
This is why I am getting to love the intro more and more. I am not a heavy metal guy, but it fits. The rage, the lyrics. Eren is becoming a villain but he is not a villain, he is not evil. The lyrics " All I have ever wanted was do good things, I never wanted to be the king, I swear. / All I ever wanted is save your life, I never wanted to grab the knife, I swear!!! "
Greatest storytelling anime in history. AOT is a on league of its' own
Damn even in the first scene of baby Eren he was still moving forward
I love how they got Eren's eyes looking at you in the background as they unravel what's happening. XD
