Nasturtiums are a favorite of mine!! I shoved a few seeds in an awkward crevice behind a water spout and between a concrete pathway, they sprouted, and are catching up quickly with the ones I planted last month. Been growing and collecting seed for over a decade, and they only thing that changes is the variety and amount... Which grows each year!
Great video, the only thing I thought to add to this is annul herbs, many of which make beautiful ornamental plants. If you like to grow your own cut flowers then herbs can provide wonderful filler, foliage and scent for your arrangements. This year I'm growing Camomile, Feverfew, Florist Dill, Bronze Fennel, Thai Basil and Greek Cress.
I totally agree l grew them for the first time last year Nastritium took off and became my first favorite flower there hardy and gorgeous, not to mention delicious.😅.
Your garden is impressive! Your passion and hard work shows. As a gardener & I make garden videos too. I am extremely thankful for any tips and guidance you provide. I hope we can learn from each other as we grow! Never stop learning!
was great to see you "lovely greens" I have you on my list to follow. Your one seed was interesting......my personal favourite plant of all time.....just love the smell of them....nastursnims xx
A fantastic selection of flower seeds to sow and it was great to see Tanya from Lovely Greens with her one selection Niall. Keep safe, well and happy gardening.
Greetings, Niall, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 Beautiful content, as always. So glad to see your garden is catching up with mine, as far as sunny 🌞 days ahead 💓
Another great video - and a lovely guest (or rather two - can‘t forget Maggie 🤣 ) And yes, I have to agree with Tanya: nasturtiums 👏🏻 We have some self seeding nasturtiums every year, but I also sow a whole seed tray of different colors and heights to pop in between the other crops
@@niallgardens - I'm currently steaming the compost to get rid of the fungus gnat larvae, then will start mine in modules (I normally just direct sow, but I want to be able to control how many plants I actually have in each spot.
You are a pleasant fellow, you have a subbed fan. Ive just put out all of my flowers on my allotment, its traditional to have them next to the path. I have a double allotment and i built a mini house with all mod cons, awesome. Im the constant gardener. Mint, Lemon balm, strawberries, gooseberry, logan berry, black berry, red current, purple brocco, normal brocco, cauliflower, normal and purple, rhubarb, raspberry, cooking apple, 2 types table apple, 3 types of potatos, garlic, thyme, parsley, sage, cillantro, oregano, wild garlic, rocket, swedes, tomato's, red and white and onions, chives, broad beans, runner beans. Im looking to get some stevia and them im done.
Hello Niall. Really enjoy your posts and I just wanted to tell you that my husband recently made me a hotbin after we watched your video. He thought your instructions were so clear and helpful, really easy to follow. So thank you for that.
My lunaria has gone mad and I adore it. It's made the garden feel alive again after the winter and filled it not only with colour and flowers but bees, butterflies and all other pollinators
I love geraniums. I never knew they were easy to start from seed. Thank you for the info! And I'm so excited this year about my lavender. They're growing better than I expected!
Sorry late watching, was camping among my garden plants ha ha. Great video, Niall what have you done, i was happy at weekend, had flower seeds all planted, and now you have reminded me of many i forgot, ha ha, will have to go purchase again. I love foxgloves too, childhood memories with them, have them in my front garden. Sadly the lavender from my mums garden died, will try again. Honesty is a flower i adore, its everywhere after i planted it last year, and the seed pods are even more beautiful in the sun. Niall, thankyou, i have saved this video, so much choice.
Great video Niall, lovely selection of seeds to sow. I like Tanya's suggestion of nasturtium, which has just reminded me, I have some in the fridge from last year, will get them sown. I don't know how you have the patience, to grow perennials from seed, I know I haven't lol I just go out and buy the plant. Allan
Great suggestions! I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've come across your channel. It amazes me with how long I've been watching gardening videos on yt, I still come across new channels all the time?!?
I'm focusing heavily on vegetable and fruit production but I'd like to dip my toes in sewing flowers. I do have some wildflower mixes I will be tossing about this week! And I may try marigolds from seed. I did start some indoors but it will be fun! I do have nasturtiums as well!
Last year my nasturtiums both climbing and dwarf varieties were ravaged, nay decimated by cabbage white caterpillars. They were like an all you can eat buffet. Revenge possibly for covering the brassicas with enviromesh? 🤔
Every year I grow nasturtium, and every year as they get flowers on they get blackfly, do u have any ideas how it avoid this. Just found ur channel, its great!! And love an Irish accent.
Try knocking the things off with a stream of water or scrape them with your fingers. They usually show up before the good guys come in to take care of them. 👍👍 If a leaf has way too many, just take off the whole leaf, as long as you have plenty to spare! They bounce back quickly, but take a break in the heat, so that's when pests will really knock them out of the game and there will be no autumn flowers! Cheers! You can also try a tsp of dish soap(lemon scented Joy brand works great) in a qt water sprayer and spray them in the evening, just let it sit and rinse off before the next morning to avoid burning!
Another wonderful selection as always. I am a bit confused about Phlox, I thought they were a perennial as I already have some in my garden. Are there also annual phloxes?
Thanks for watching Honore! Yeah there are actually both annual and perennial Phlox plants - at the minute I have one single perennial Phlox in the front garden, but the ones I was suggesting this month are the annuals. Hope this helps!
Nastershams just get completely eaten up by caterpillars. I find them a nightmare. My favourite is lupins, I have a hundred of them sprouting and bumble bees love them.

my nasturtiums grow back every year.it always makes me happy!😊
They're tough as anything aren't they!

Yeah Nasturtiums are a brilliant recommendation - I've got mine started!
@@niallgardens - I'm currently steaming the compost to get rid of the fungus gnat larvae, then will start mine in modules (I normally just direct sow, but I want to be able to control how many plants I actually have in each spot.

Hello Niall. Really enjoy your posts and I just wanted to tell you that my husband recently made me a hotbin after we watched your video. He thought your instructions were so clear and helpful, really easy to follow. So thank you for that.
That is awesome! I'm so glad that the video instructional was useful - good luck with the hot composter and let me know how you get on with it!
My lunaria has gone mad and I adore it.
It's made the garden feel alive again after the winter and filled it not only with colour and flowers but bees, butterflies and all other pollinators
Lunaria does tend to go a bit mad doesn't it?! But like you say, it's fantastic
Only recently found you ...so glad i did....now off to buy some lavender seeds! 💜 😁
I love geraniums. I never knew they were easy to start from seed. Thank you for the info! And I'm so excited this year about my lavender. They're growing better than I expected!
You are so welcome! That's great to hear about your lavender!
I look forward to each of these videos so much every month! Míle buíochas!
Thanks so much!
You've got me fired up. I have quite a few of your recommendations....so I'm off to the greenhouse!!
That's so good that it got you fired up! Enjoy your time in the greenhouse!
On my way to pick up more soil and seeds right now 🤗
Sounds great! I'm gonna have to go and get more compost myself!
Awesome collab packed with great info! Was that a pyracantha hedge behind you....for the intro? Spectacular!!!
Yay! Glad you liked it! It's a Berberis in that full-on orange colour!
Thanks for the flower suggestions, now the list just keeps getting longer but that's the beauty of gardening right?
It sure is! The never ending list of 'oh, I'd love to grow that!'
Sorry late watching, was camping among my garden plants ha ha. Thanks Lorraine! Every month I think I'm leading people to buy even more seeds and plants! 😂
@@niallgardens oh you are 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My favourites: lavender, zinnias, echinacea, bee balm, and peonies (oh and my ever increasing hosta collection). Love 'em!
Those are all great choices - I love them!
Great video Niall, lovely selection of seeds to sow. I like Tanya's suggestion of nasturtium, which has just reminded me, I have some in the fridge from last year, will get them sown. The patience isn't always there, believe me! It's more that with a garden my size, it would cost me a fortune otherwise! 😂
Great suggestions! I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've come across your channel. It amazes me with how long I've been watching gardening videos on yt, I still come across new channels all the time?!?
Welcome aboard! I'm so pleased that you've found me and the channel!

Super! That's great that you're growing both edibles and flowers
Excellent seeds Niall 😀 I absolutely love Foxgloves 💕
Thank you! Cheers!
Always so inspiring. Thank you. 👌💕
You are so welcome!
Eine einfarbige grüne Bepflanzung passt perfekt zu modernen Gärten.
Great video as always. 😀 very informative
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Eilish!
Exciting! 1more month of Autumn in Australia, so I need to get my flowers in now in time4winter.
Oh yeah definitely!
Last year my nasturtiums both climbing and dwarf varieties were ravaged, nay decimated by cabbage white caterpillars. They were like an all you can eat buffet. Revenge possibly for covering the brassicas with enviromesh? 🤔
Nasturtium are a catch crop. Bugs love them. I put sacrificial ones next to veggies. Then the others are left alone. And the veggies, too.
Aw no Val! Sounds like it was a case of revenge against the enviromesh! hahahahah!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
What a wonderful video but I have to ask you what is all of that what looks to be orange flowers behind you Beautiful whatever they are 🌞👍
Every year I grow nasturtium, and every year as they get flowers on they get blackfly, do u have any ideas how it avoid this. Just found ur channel, its great!! And love an Irish accent.

Thanks nail 👍 more seed shopping😂l love the perennial sunflower one helio something, save a lot of work! Can you direct sow the lavender seeds?
I would be inclined to sow the lavender in pots or modules I think. Oh and the perennial sunflower is a heliopsis, just in case you're looking for it!
I can't sow this month ill be in Ireland. But ill be visiting different gardens like Curraghmore and Powerscourt to get my fix
Enjoy Ireland!

Many thanks, that clarifies things
okay seeing Maggie walk across the camera is just wholesome. it's like she knows when you are filming.
Perfectly on cue!!
She's taking over ALL the channels 😹
Maggie is the secret star!
Wow! What is the name of that tall blue aquilegia you showed??!!
So the bad news is... I don't actually know! It's Aquilegia, but I'm not sure exactly which!
Niall I'll catch up later, busy day celebrating hubby's 70 th thanks
Happy Birthday to him!!
Thanks,having a fab day 😀
Thanks Niall, brilliant video, very interesting to see different seeds to sow now, had a Brill day, see you soon 😊
I have always bought potted flowers from the garden centres and spent too much money!!! I assume that growing from seeds will work out a lot cheaper??
Yeah they're great value!
Great video, I'm in Co. Down Niall I can't get my cucumber, courgettes or salad seeds to germinate did I sow to early ?
Thanks Niall for all your great suggestions and recommendations.
Looking forward to seeing all the seeds develop and grow into wonderful flowers 💐
Have you sown them outdoors, indoors, or under cover?
You're welcome Ann - glad you enjoyed it!
Nastershams just get completely eaten up by caterpillars. I find them a nightmare. My favourite is lupins, I have a hundred of them sprouting and bumble bees love them.
Lupins are gorgeous! I love them! I know what you mean about the nasturtiums, though I haven't had them attacked quite that badly thank goodness
Good Lord! What is that fantastic orange shrub behind you in this video?
It's a Berberis - awesome isn't it!
First impression from the first minute of the video, " You talk like plants Sir".
p
Why in this day in age of 5 sec attention span do people still 🙄 have 20 minute elaborate videos. Just say it in 3 minutes.
Erm… because I wanted to make the video that long? 😂
