- In Episode 171 of Mike Finnegan's Garage, we take you behind the scenes of the newest episode of Roadkill, which you can watch on Motortrend Plus. This time we are entering Rocky Mountain Raceweek 2.0, which we attempted to finish in my 1967 Pontiac Firebird. As usual, we were running late and the Rubber Duck was completely untested. In fact, we were replacing most of the wiring in the car the night we left for Oklahoma because the car needed working headlights and turn signals to pass the RMRW tech inspection. The event is for street cars and the goal is to drive to four different tracks over the course of five days. We did it and almost made it into 8 second territory in the 1/4 mile. It was an epic week and this video is just the tip of the iceberg. The footage that the Roadkill crew captured is even better than what we shot with our UA-camr Start-Up Kit aka, our Iphones! lol
Thanks for watching. Our next goal for the the Rubber Duck is to install a new fuel pump, change the rear suspension to coilovers, and then see how far into the 8s we can go with our mystery big block.

Thanks Finnegan for giving us this free content to watch between you and a few other UA-camrs I watch yall more than I do just regular TV because with yalls mechanics it's not all dumbed down for a broad audience to understand easily... and it's not that fake reality stuff where they're like oh this car can put down 250 hp stock an then they swap on some small insignificant part like a cold air intake and act like that's gonna "wake up" the motor and add a bunch of power and I hate that bullshit lol

I love how crazy that thing leaves. I kept rewatching the 19:44 launch at .25 speed. It shocks the rear tire, picks the front up, expands the tire, raises the rear suspension, and almost gets the rear air born. The thing damn near bunny hops haha
It really doesn't launch real hard, the car is real stiff and the weight transfer is horrible, look at the 60 ft times of this car and you'll see that it really doesn't launch all that hard it just looks that way because it's so stiff

i'm not really a yellow car guy but I'd never want to paint this car just for that reason.

This was such an awesome episode, but all of them are really awesome! I'm so addicted to this show that I can't wait to see the next ones when I have time to sit down and watch!! It was so cool to see the neat little towns and seeing that awesome Rubber Duck hookup and lift the front end on those passes! I loved seeing Brittney give y'all the rubber duck! She seemed so sweet! Wow is Roadkill still a thing ? Who knew ?
I broke the driveshaft in my 68’ firebird accelerating to hard up hill while weighted up. I went to a local junk yard and picked a shaft from a ford LTD station wagon and had it shortened and welded to fit. The LTD drive shaft is much larger diameter than the stock shaft that mated the 400 to the 400-turbo trans never had to worry about breaking the shaft after that. I miss my “orbit orange” 68 firebird so much it was a blast to drive.
Hopefully roadkill will come back to UA-cam one day.
Yea, youtube helped build the Roadkill fanbase, then MToD locked it behind their paywall.
We can only hope they'll put it back on UA-cam.
@@Bakuryu0083 That would be great. And maybe with some delay to the MTD service? I don't mind, even if i'd have to wait for a year or something. I hate the fact you now have to pay 20 different companies to watch your favorite shows. And yeah.. I know, some people will be shouting "It's only 5 dollars a month!", but 20 times 5 is a 100 bucks every month, that adds up pretty quickly and for me a 100 bucks every month is to much to spend on TV basicly... I'd far rather spend that money on my own projects and/or tools, to work on my own projects.
And having said (well, written...) that: At the moment it's impossible to get MTOD if you're not in the US. Yes, i know making a show costs a lot of time and money, and i'm OK with people who want their fair days pay after a fair days work. Totally fine with that. But it's not like they don't make any money if they put the episodes on UA-cam. In fact, if they do it right they can make money off of the MTOD service AND UA-cam. That'd be like a second income for the MT company.

And i don't watch a lot of TV either, but yet i have to have a TV subscription in order to have internet here in the Netherlands. So that's the first 20 euro's a month wasted...
@@destructionnl8165 even when roadkill was airing on youtube, the MToD was 1-2 episodes ahead, with a 1 month delay per episode before they went to youtube. They finally just decided to stop posting them to youtube (I'm guessing their MToD numbers weren't as high as they wanted)

As a UK resident it’s great to see your road trips again, really enjoyed this one with all the Route 66 and American history. I held my breath slightly when you launched up the drag strip, couldn’t believe how flat the tyres looked on launch! Nice job, keep it up. 👍🏻

So about 5 minutes into this video and I think I hit the high score on the emotions chart of smiley faces in the counselors office. We started with confusion and worry for Dave. Same was felt with the uhm...thing in the parking lot.

Loved the episode, and Rubber Duck is great. I know it will probably never happen, but it would be incredible to see it changed back to a Pontiac engine.
2 years on, still a bitchin episode. Last pass was a Hook and Haul, best leave of the vid. I forgot about the really cool collector gas station, with the Cushman's and other cool bits. Best checkpoint ever!. Hope he is still saving it all.

Dang, I’m 73 with a 66 chevelle drop top …this is the first channel I’ve ever subscribed to….kinda like what you get into….
I go to College in Stillwater Oklahoma. I pass the bumblebee transformer every day on my sport bike going to class including the day rocky mountain race week went through. Optimus prime is only a few miles past campus. Imagine my disappointment when I found out the rubber duck, as well as these legends were in town, and I missed them!!!

26 Years ago Stan Hopkins helped me put a 3speed front case back together. The best driveshaft rear end builder in Dallas. Those guys are solid.
That VW at the start of the vid is a passat/bora/whatever they are called over the pond VR6 wagon by the looks of it, so either 2.8 or 2.9 V6 with a turbo bolted to it, they sound awesome. Extra points if it's 4wd.

That event led to probably my favorite video of yours. You guys started and ended at my home track and went through so many towns I've traveled through in mg adventures through my home state. I hope that I can get my car built and get some time off work to go out and do that event some time.

About a week after you guys went thru Tulsa, My daughter and I drove Route 66 from St. Louis to the Midpoint in Texas.
I definitely recognized the parts thru Tulsa . . .
