Pro 42 years in Plumbing Lic. in LA Ca.(past) and Phx AZ. (current). Excellent video! I use your info on my own home improvements as a jack of all trades but master of one! To ease installation of the Oatey no calk gasket, I use a little bit of dish soap and I also prefer 'Plumbers putty " instead of 100%silicone as putty is soft and stays pliable easier to clean up. if tightened with a wrench just past snug the putty seal will never leak and provides a bacteria and mold resistance seal. Silicone is an acceptable means of sealing, just for a tip of the trade, keep a spray bottle of mineral spirits to remove excess silicone on finishes.! I just have a preference of putty because I have demoed plumbing from installs from the beginning of the use of putty(1940's) and seen that it never leaked . Silicone is recommended on porous surfaces such as stones used in high end tub and shower builds. Putty will stain these stones such as marble etc. I recommend the use of at the very least, a teflon or kevlar based thread sealing compound on "all mechanical threads used for sealing components", no questions as to why, just do it! lol ADA code for horizontal grab bars is 33"-36" on center above finish floor. I noted that this is for optional bars and not for an ADA shower. Ada code compliance showers require extensive attention for locations of valves, hand held shower, and "transfer" or "roll in" access! Green or 'patina" is not a sign of age it is from flux left over upon install look at the old joints for hard water minerals which will be white deposits growth at pipe to fitting soldered connections, this will be a sign of leakage. Pin holes you referred to can be in old and new type M or L and is caused primarily from what is called "occlusions" I have experienced this and had to refer to the manufacture for explanation. This is caused from contaminates in the manufacturing of copper M is code for a minimum standard in residential and L is for commercial but "L" is the better choice. Other practices shown here in this video are very good! Pex pipe is to be strapped every 3' and install in a manner that allows for expansion and contraction. I am the same in that i work better with no gloves and I can't see as well as I used to but PPE IS NECISARY FOR A SAFE AND HAPPY JOB WELL DONE!
The fact that you shared the breakdown is AMAZING. I can’t tell you how many people don’t. Or quotes are outrageous for the exact same work. Thank you so much for sharing your passion with the world.
I was quoted $16k just to put in an acrylic shower only. Last time I use the home advisor auto match thing and actually invite them in to do a quote lol
Great video!! I really enjoyed watching the whole process. I hope you give us another one like this. I always quote toilet installs at $200 because there is a good chance the sub floor or flange needs repaired. If I pull the toilet and everything looks good and it’s a straight forward install I change my quote to $125.
1:00:16 I’ve read that it’s not advised to use a wet rag to wipe down your hot solder joint. It can cause the different metals to cool at different rates which can weaken your joint.
That was another great video!! I wish you were in my area Treasure Coast Florida. Been looking for a company or person to do a tub to shower only. I've been quoted higher than 10k more like 15 to 25k. Only have a budget of 6k. I can probably remove the old plastic tub/shower my self
You are very personable and do a great job! It seems to me that once I was set up with materials, tools and cheap subway tiles I would do the whole surround on a cast iron tub....or just go cheap and simple.
@12:51 We can wallow in pain together. I had 3 layers in my kitchen and someone decided that they were going to nail down the bottom layer of laminate in a straight line every 1/4 inch for 20 feet .... and then right beside it staple every inch .... It took forever lol
What about the air admittance valve? You gonna install a access panel or is their a way to access it it? Because there is going to be big problems when it fails and needs to be replaced I’ve seen it before I’ve replaced a couple of them.
you are correct it is code to provide access to any mechanical plumbing device. This is why I do not recommend shark bite products in the walls or below grade
Too many people to count, 😆 and a big one has been posting videos for about 9 years now. You can get a lot of constructive criticism on everything 😆 a lot of bs too….
I live in a fha house that was built in 1970 & they sat my tub on the actual ground with no cement under it. How can I fix it when I change out my tub for a walk-in shower?
Great job ! Thank youi so much for this video. Very educational and lots of tips to learn. Btw, just for curiousity. how will you know if the wall is not a load bearing ? Thanks again. I appreciate what you do. More power to your channel. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi, just wanted to know, is there a PVC quadrant used when installing mosaic tiles connecting the floor tile to the wall tiles? If so, what is this part and is there an installation video?
I’ve watched so many of your videos Im fixing a shower leak right now in our shower had to pull out everything. I’ve put up the go board and have taped and waterproofed most of it. But I have a question? How do you transition from the shower tile to the drywall on an outside corner? Do you put a drywall corner bead up then tile to that edge and put in the tile edge so it looks nice (will that pop the tile too far away from the wall? or do you put your tile in and the then the tile edging and mud up to the tile edge? Or do you tile up to a few inches away from the outside corner with a tile edge at the end of the tile? Also do you wrap the waterproof paper around the edge instead of using drywall mud. Does that make sense?
Thank you so much for these videos!! You told us to ask questions, so here goes: I have old tongue and groove 2" thick redwood floors in my bathroom. I've had to repair a couple areas. It's not flat. I'd like to use a floor leveler, but being tongue and groove the leveler would just find it's way out between the boards, especially the repaired boards that aren't T&G.How would you go about leveling this kind of floor?
Thanks, and for something like that unfortunately you’d have overlay with at least 1/2” plywood before leveling, or tear completely out and put new 3/4” down. There isn’t any I know of that can handle the expansion and contraction of tongue and groove boards like that. I see a lot of Douglas fur around here. Crazy they would use redwood 😆
If you caulk your toilet base, leave the back open enough not to see the gap but let the leak out so you know if there is one. God forbid there is a leak but you won’t find out until it’s to late and you have water damage to the flooring or worse. That’s why you shouldn’t caulk it. If the floor is done right it should sit flush anyway.
You talked about there being no vent in the drain line and then chose to use two separate air admittance valves, one for the tub and another for the vanity. I'm curious why you didn't simply vent properly to the main stack that was right there, especially since both valves will have limited air access since they are inside wall stud cavities.
To be honest, none of the plumbing issues were part of my bid. Didn’t get one red cent more for addressing the drainage issue. This project was an absolute mess & nightmare (customer was goofy too)
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher Figures, SW FL is too long to drive I guess, thanks for all you do, by the way how was that plumbing fixed? Was that really backwashing sewer gas for a while?
Good move not showing how to do the vents since you did them wrong. You didn't need 2 vents you only needed one. The shower can vent off the sink if it's less than 9' and you ran 2" in the floor. You can't put an AAV in inaccessible areas. The one behind the shower will eventually need to be replaced and no one will know it is there. The customer will start having a sewer smell that no one can figure out until a smoke test is done. An access panel on that back wall is going to look pretty ugly.
Can only polish a turd so much. This project was a nightmare, along with client. No was I completely changing out system. And those vents are accessible Thanks for watching 👍
Commercial electrician here, find your videos to be very well made and informative

The solder in the joint can crack because it cooled too fast.

Watching this video with my picky 5 year old and she said she loves the work you’ve done and glad u took down that ugly tile in the bathroom wall 🤣
I appreciate your time and effort ...and when you go back and change when you make a mistake...#class act! Well DONE "SUB"

Fantastic upload, love to watch your awesome video, keep sharing, stay healthy and stay safe, have a enjoyable day, lk
seen the studor vents - i love those. very thorough build! he's a beast!
What kind of venting did you end up installing for the sink and tub drains?
Nice job with the blocking for the grab bar! Lots of people overlook this.

Where did you learn everything from?

Do you use regular drywall screws for the shower surrounds?
A lot of great info in this one. nice job on the video.
Thanks 😊. Wish I had the better camera for a lot of this….from now on live streams are secondary

please also give us an idea of how much is the toal cost and breakdown of labour cost and material cost, thanks

you have two cheers vents behind the sink and behind the shower valve how do you access it if there's an issue with them.😬
Access door on back of shower & vanity 👍
Hi , the drain water pipe for shower pan it's usually 1 1/2 inches or 2 inches please ?
minimum pipe sizes are 1 1/2" for tubs and 2" showers!

I thought siliconing around the bottom of the toilet, was not recommended if the waste comes through the floorboards?
Awesome thanks
Thank for helping me
Nice 🎉
What kinda of shower base is this called please!
Professional job on the video as well 👍👍
Hello, how much do. you charge for a bathroom
Ty
Top....👏
Why are you putting down the floor before you paint?
AAV in he wall?
Accessible through vanity. And no it wasn’t ideal
Would have been nice if the homeowner had set the ac to 68 degrees .
All the links to your products are out of stock.
Guess it depends on where you live

The color of the mold doesn’t really matter brother
I have been getting bids for $3000 or $2800 or one for 4890 + the price of the tile
Your bid seems high.

No, no, and no. Never use windex on your caulk. Just apply it correctly and neatly.
