- In this Range Report I revisit a pistol I reviewed over a year and a half ago but lost the video on. So I am taking another look at this higher end CZ that is designed with competition in mind. This pistol is the CZ Shadow 2 and is build on the CZ75 platform with many upgrades and a finely tuned trigger. This is an outstanding and very accurate gun. For the cost, I think you get an amazing package that rivals many competition firearms that are twice the price. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this pistol. Yours may vary.

I’m a 2011 guy…Atlases, Nighthawks, and I couldn’t agree with you more. CZ makes amazing firearms. Straight out of the box. I have a CZ SP 01 with a trigger job and an optic cut from CZ custom as my home defense gun. it shoots just as accurately as my atlas Athena, doesn’t require constant cleaning and has never had a failure to feed or failure to eject… Ever. And because it’s a double action/single action, it’s particularly useful for home defense. The CZ shadow 2 punches Way above its weight class.
I think the safety is a little weak and a little difficult to engage compared to a 2011, but that’s the only gripe I have with the gun. For the money, there’s nothing better, and even without the money in consideration is pretty freaking amazing. You could buy six of these for the price of an Atlas Athena.

I just picked up a 2020 model shadow 2 black/blue that never was fired for $900. I think that was a pretty good deal. Awesome videos as always 👍🏼👍🏼 now I need some grips

Great review. CZ Shadow 2 is the best gun ever made. Period. And it is the most beautiful gun ever made. In gun world CZ Shadow 2 is just like a Porsche 911 in cars world or like Sukhoi SU-30 in fighter jet world. Unmatched & unrivaled.

Good afternoon, Jason, everyone should have a CZed Shadow 1 or 2. I have a couple and they always shoot better than the owner. And here in Oz they are used in IPSC shooting. Because they come out of the box ready to use. Great review. Cheers

I shot a Pit Viper last weekend…I was relieved as I didn’t enjoy it any more than my shadow 2. It was a nice firearm, but it didn’t make me want it.
I agree. The law of diminishing returns really play into it.

My CZ Custom tuned Shadow2 remains the best shooting pistol in my collection. I have put many thousands of rounds through it & it still shoots as good as the day I bought it. The only thing I’ve done is change out the clear polymer buffer a few times & one time on the recoil spring as preventative maintenance. If the Shadow2 ends up in my range bag, I’ll usually go through double the amount of ammo I intended to shoot that day.
I can see why. These are simply some of the best CZ makes hands down.
I'm a CZ fanboy. I own an S2 OR, have an S2 Orange on its way, and own a handful of other CZ75 based guns inlcuding a TSO and TS2 Green. I'm also a recent 2011 convert/fan boy. I own a Staccato P, Bul Air and Bul Tac 4.25. I think a well tuned S2, bought on sale, is about the best value out there for hammer fired guns. My S2 OR (with hardly anything done to it), is just as accurate and just as pleasant to shoot as my 2011s and it's more ergonomic for me. The 1911/2011 trigger is what makes them so special. The S2 can't match a good 2011 trigger but that's its only downside really compared to 2011s.

The Dan Wesson DWX is worth a look - best of both. ( if you can find one! )
@johncastorina8310 I have one 😉 Mine didn't have the nicest trigger out of the box and the safety was ridiculously hard to engage. I sent it off to CZ Custom for a bunch of work and now I love it.
My Shadow 2 SAO has easily one of the best triggers on a pistol, period. Accuracy, balance and fit/finish make it one of my favorites.
CZ really makes these really nice.
It's well worth a $1,200 price tag. The Shadow 2 compared to any striker fired pistol or average $500 to $800 polymer pistol, there's really no competition. The CZ is an all steal pistol with exact tolerances and a perfectly blued finish. The gun craftsmanship is excellent, and the triger pull is around 2 to 3 pounds.

I shot a lot of 2Gun and UPSA Matches . I actually chose the CZ Shadow 2 Optics Ready over 2011.
I sold a couple toys and had about 2k for a new pistol . I obviously went CZ S2 route . I then installed CGW SAO Conversion along with EXTENDED / Wide Left side Safety , and Lok Veloce Palm Swell grips. It was 2.1# SAO trigger that breaks like glass . CZ S2 SAO is by far the fastest pistols I've ever owned a d it's just a smooth shooting pistol .
Spending 2.5K for Staccato P DPO did not make sense to me for Competition Pistol . CZ Shadow 2 was the obvious choice.

People that dont like cz usually dont like the da/sa i dont mind then because i grew up with them
I can see that.
Those grips are beautiful, but I worry about the lack of traction. I love my lok grips palm swell full brass grid grips. My hands feel like they are glued to the gun, and the palm swell shape feels so much better for me than the stock grips that come with the Shadow 2.
They actually work well. If you are running in competitions, you might want something more aggressive, but Browneworks can make that.
Good video thanks. I really enjoy CZ products and the Shadow 2 is amazing. I have 2011s and a platypus and the Shadow 2 is as good if not better. The DWX by Dan Wesson, also owned by CZ now, may be perfect mix of 2011 and Shadow 2. Yes many magwells are available or step up the TS models with single action only triggers and magwells.

I have and love it! I have a MP DS9 love both but for the price fit and finish the shadow 2 is the best out there period. I plan to grab a cz shadow 2 compact as well 😊
I would love to try the compact version out too.
The wood grips look great but are not an ideal choice for competition. Been thru some pretty wet weather with mine in 3 gun matches and smooth wood wouldn’t have been good. As far as not enough gripping surface to easily rack the slide, that’s a real thing although it’s a non issue on mine with an SRO on it. It’s a nice big handle to rack the slide with. Nice review. I do love mine.
I can see that. For competition I would go with something more aggressive.
As you probably know, LOK grips makes some aggressive palm swell grips for Shadow 2. I recently got a pair for my S2C. Nice video

I agree. They are just the "hot" thing and they can charge so much due to demand.
Great firearm but not better than a high end 2011. The CZs break trigger return springs, that's not a thing in a single action 2011 trigger. I have both and they are both very nice on their own right.
I can see that. I just think you get so much for the price you pay for this pistol.

I dont think it does lack the pin safety and isnt safe to dry fire. But you can dry fire about 4000 times before breaking the pin.

I agree. It has more curves than a 2011.
