I was very fortunate to get a P226 MK25 as a Father’s Day gift from my oldest daughter. I own, and have owned, many sigs but this P226 MK25 is one of my favorites. Out of the box I changed the grips to Hogue Extreme G10 Piranhas and took it to the range. It shoots great, is very accurate, and I had no issues with either target or duty ammo feeding or ejecting. It is a great gun, as are most of the other Sigs I’ve owned. Thanks for the great review.
It's crazy that I have been considering selling my 226 Elite SAO for the MK25 but yesterday I decided against it. And now this video dropped into my yt feed. And I'm undecided all over again, lol. It says a lot about how well reviewed this gun is while being so simple, no optic cut, etc. This was a great video!
@@thetexasgunvault Thanks, I honestly thought it was an overly outdated pistol, because of the "not optics ready" feature but I'm pretty good with my irons, besides I don't practice shooting longer than 50 yards with my handguns anyways. To me, that's rifle territory at that point. Also it's surprising light, so carrying shouldn't be a problem for me at all.
you really look in love with this one. Do you think the feeling with the 226 legion (which has a srt kit in the original configuration) is similar to this Mk25?
I love the mk25 definitely one of my favorite automatic pistols. So much so it’s my nightstand gun . Short reset trigger was my only change to it and a sure fire x400 .
If I didn’t already have the x400 I bought back in 2010 I would’ve put x300 like my other pistols have . Lasers were so cool back then until you shot with them lol . I’ve never measured it but the laser is quite aways from center of bore you better know your holds if you’re really going to use it outside of set distance lol .
@@thetexasgunvault I have a P229 m11a1 style in 40/357 SIG. I usually have the 357 SIG barrel in it. Once you shoot that a little, you pretty much are spoiled and consider 9mm kind of sad. I buy 125 grain flat nose for 46¢/round. I can practice and carry the same ammo. That's a lot cheaper than 9mm d cent ammo like Hornady or Gold Dot. So I think people are just parotting untrue things they hear.
Have you rented a Legion variant of the 226 before? I've heard you may be able to get a slightly higher grip on them with the way the frame and beaver tail are altered to further control the muzzle flip, but others have said its not very significant or even true. I'm a little bit hung up on which 226 variant I want. It would probably be the MK25 or the Legion. I looked up online that a local range only has the Legion variant for rental, even though they do sell the MK25 as well as the Legion. I've heard the controls are slimmer profile, which are less preferable to a lot of people about the Legion, but it theoretically might make it slightly better to wear with less snag points (the standard variant controls look plenty low profile enough, in my opinion). I prefer how the MK25 and the other traditional 226 frame shapes don't have a beaver tail that protrudes as far. I've heard from TheYankeeMarshall that you could buy a normal 226 and buy most of the upgrades separately and save well over $100. So maybe the MK25 is a better value overall, on top of having one of if not the most element resistant finishes for a pistol. Any advice would be appreciated.
Not talking about the AXG lineup, but Sig needs to offer a SRT hammered P226/P229 that has an optics ready slide and utilizes the p320 magazine's capacity
I see you have a new way of taking a conjunction and using it as a adverb "However" only you Jason I swear, however damn good job on the review Jason..! You have sparked my interest in this pistol if I must say so myself. Oh, what happened at the end Jason? Only you Jason, fffffffffffuuuuu@%!!! 😎
I recently acquired a MK25, 2023 build. I noticed that the barrel finish is wearing very quickly, much more quickly than any other gun I own, and i own a lot of pistols. Are you seeing accelerated wear on the special barrel finish on yours? Other thing I noticed, is that IMO the grips feel very ‘plasticky’, almost cheap feeling. I realize they are supposed to replicate the actual MK25, however when compared to the G10 grips on my Legion P226 and P229, it doesnt feel nearly as good/solid in the hand. I do want to keep the original look of the MK25 however, so wondering if anyone knows of G10 upgraded grips that keep the same look as the stock plastic grips the MK25 comes with? Thank you for the video!
Yes, I see that wear too. I think it is normal on this finish. It is corrosion resistant but not friction resistant. I think from pictures only the original plastic grips have the right look.
Thanks for the quick response- am planning on buying a threaded barrel for it, as i have bought NINE cans in the last few months now that the AFT is approving Form 4s in 2-3 days, and trying to decide if I go with the OEM phosphate threaded barrel or Silencercos 226 threaded. I think someone should come out with G10 grip panels in the same style as the MK25 grips- when I switch out my Legion 226 g10 grips onto the MK25, it feels soo much better in the hand and more solid! but of course you lose the iconic ‘retro’ look of the MK25. Oh, and yeah my ID tag/sticker fell off the very first cleaning, any amount of oil hits it and it will just slide off. Replaced with the same company you mention, and all is good. Nice that at least the replacement is pretty inexpensive!
@@ThisHandleIsTaken1 i think the "wear" you are seeing is due to the salt water resistant coating. mine was the same prior to even shooting. after a few hundred rounds the barrel seems fine to me!
This info is incorrect. The M11A1 has the Short REACH Trigger, not Short Reset Trigger. It's basically a slightly thinner trigger profile which allows for a shorter reach than the standard P-Series "fat" trigger. I owned one a few years back and wasn't a big fan of it personally, as it had a tendency to pinch the hell out of my trigger finger.
I know my MK25 did not come with the SRT. Did that one have it installed after the fact? I have the SRT in my pro and my Legions and they seem much shorter than that. Great gun bore axis be damned. The gun tracks back onto target so quickly and easily, does not matter for me.I can shoot them as fast and accurate as any duty pistol.HK gets the same knock and I feel it can be over blown. Having said that , I am no pro and do not ever shoot matches so what do I know. Good job, God bless
Very nice solid review as always. Not to sound like a negative Nancy but Sig sometimes half a__es things like the inventory tag otherwise the pistol is perfect in my book. Personally, maybe one day I'll own one, but with my luck Sig will discontinue making them once i get the money to buy😂 just like the SP2022. So, stay safe Big Jay and looking forward to your next review.
I thought you own one, Jason. Also, it looked like your wife put her strong hand thumb under the support hand, which, I think, didn't make the grip thinner and added to her discomfort. But I might be wrong.
I have a Mk25 and a couple other 226’s. They’re excellent weapons with superb accuracy and dependability and durability..not my “go to” Pistols but if all I had was a 226 I’d ok
@@thetexasgunvault the bore is as high as any 1911 or USP. There's a reason for that. If you want a really low bore axis, get a Glock, much lower than cz75.
Honestly when it comes to bore axis (especially in 9mm) we are talking about margins of difference in decimals. The difference in bore axis between a Glock and a Sig is incredibly marginal and in my opinion not noticeable. I've never stepped away from shooting my Sig thinking it was any less manageable than any other 9mm I've ever shot
